The music is there to make it feel not so scary. Surgery can be scary for many people, they're trying to put it into a light-hearted and informational format.

I just completed the surgery on May 18. Got clearance from my doctor yesterday for normal activities. My vision is very good now. My advice to anyone contemplating is to follow your doctor's instructions. The surgery itself is pretty easy, but do what they tell you post-op for best result. This is a great video with good information. Thank you, doctor!

I had cataract surgery at Mass Eye & Ear Infirmary in Boston about a week ago. When they took the eye patch off the following morning I had excellent vision. I didn't even need new glasses. The vision in the eye measured at 20/25. The eye surgeon told me that an outcome like that is rare as most people at least need new glasses. I guess I was just lucky and everything fell together just right.

      No, it’s absolutely amazing !
They actually put the medication in your eye when they are doing the surgery, afterwards you will see slight movement in your eye, that’s the medication, your body will absorb it after 1 or 2 weeks.
If someone else were looking into your eye, they would not see the medication in your eye, it’s only noticeable to you.

After my cataract I could hardly see anything. It was like a thick fog. Literally I could not distinguish between the house at the bottom of my garden and the sky. I was so worried I went to the eye emergency clinic 2 days after. The guy said there was a bit of the lens left in but that could be lasered out later. After 4 weeks little improvement. At 4 week checkup the specialist told me to stop using the steroid drops they gave to me as the pressure was high. He then gave me gkaucoma drops. Within 24 hours my sight recovered! Such a relief, I thought I would be blind! Now its ok with no drops.

Brilliant advice - the process reminds me of the the recovery period post LASIK procedure - the eye drops prescribed proved problematic as I had an allergic reaction to the preservative - only by scouring abstracts on University sites did I determine what the problem was and sourced a preservative free alternative. These eye drops came in single use phials. I shall be progressing down the path of cataract surgery and knowledge is key in what to anticipate before/after surgery and potential complications.

Thanks for reply Dr. Chan. My doctor told me it was optuonal. I hardly ever wore shades outside even in bright sunlight. No discomfort nothing. This is just my own experience. I think I recuperate quickly. I am in my last week of eye drops.😅

I'm looking at cataract surgery next year after I jump through the hoops of my new insurance, new doc, who new doc sends me to for starting the eye process. I already know my left eye is almost nothing but haze. I just turned 65. The idea of cataract surgery is scary. But I know it will be worth it.

Come to the UK mate i had cateract surgery 3 years ago and ive lost my sight in that eye due to corneal damage, retinal damage, macular damage and a ruptured capsular bag that was missed at surgery so yeah god bless the NHS the best in the world at covering up their mistakes.

Thank you so much for this guidance Dr Chan. It has been 10 days since my cataract surgery. I want to go out and play golf where there may be bright sun. Are transitional lenses OK to use for proper protection of my eye?
