A few things I picked up that I've used in interviewing that I see here: 1) Match the tone & cadence of the interviewer 2) "Do you have any questions for me?" I always respond with something that lets the interviewer know I am interested in being a successful team member. It is never what I can get out of the deal.

Great points, I completely agree with these.

Mad respect! I love all your content. I also feel obligated to inform you, the upcoming generation has formed an ethical/moral pact you might not be aware of. It is, in fact, a generational trend. They have heard the instruction to never inquire about work-life balance. They absolutely reject that instruction. Work-life balance is reported to be their GREATEST CONCERN. It's the TOP reason people quit what are otherwise good tech jobs. So taking this topic off-limits is like a huge smack in the face. They would rather live in a tent and have no debt, then get trapped working endless hours for people who have the reputation of treating other people badly. Mad respect to them too!

      Zach. Thank you.
We can only help those that want to help themselves.
I’m aware of what you describing.
And anyone can pick their own career and how they manage it.
Here is the harsh truth, it’s a global world and employers can hire those willing to work anywhere in the world.
I promise there is no short supply of hard working people across the globe.
For IT professionals it doesn’t matter if they are in Chicago, Cambodia, Cameroon or Cayman Islands.
So for those unwilling to work hard, employers have many options.
For example in my community it was hard to find trash removal workers. So now we don’t have trash people- we have a person that drives an automated bus.
A local restaurant struggled to find food servers - now they are testing a robot.
      Amazon has stores without employees.
One things is for sure, employers will find the most cost effective way to get the job done.

Amazing content! Thank you for what you do, Mike. My main takeaway is, it's best to answer interview questions by explaining your thinking and speaking in complete sentences, rather than just naming things and smiling confidently.

Zach. That is a big part of it.
No hiring manager wants to listen to buzzwords or jargon. They want to see if you truly understand the material and can communicate it effectively.

This was the best 17 minutes that I spent this morning. Thank you, Mike. I have some catch-ups to do for my Go Cloud Architects studies. Got busy these days with a newborn baby in the family.

That's what happens when you listen to influencers talk about “become a cloud architect in 3 months!” If the resume shows more certs than experience, be wary.

This is the reason why we always advice our students to be very careful about the source of their career advice. Only take advice from well known and reliable experts who works in your field.

Thank you for sharing this, you just quenched my thirst for acquiring certifications. I now see that competence always supersede experience.

    • @GoCloudArchitects
      @GoCloudArchitects  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Bummi - hiring managers want competent people. They don’t care if your certified or not, but they do care that you can do the job.
Unfortunately most certification don’t really create competency, they are just pieces of paper.
So focus on being competent and you will have an incredible career.

I'm 1000% certain now that this is the only youtuber that gives actual Cloud Architect career advice whereas others just pick up the normal bull shit standardized questions. I really appreciate that the hiring manager is actually talking like a hiring manager and asking these questions and being interactive. I also like that you are actually explaining how you should be using the services. I felt like the answers I practice on are too long vs what other youtubers questions/answers are and yours are literally the most detailed and explainative.

      Thank you very much.
I’m actually not a TH-camr. I’m a tech CEO that spent over 25 years working as an architect.
So I’m sharing what I have learned over the last 25 years to help others build great architecture careers.
I love to see others get hired. I love watching others build elite careers.
Thank you for noticing we are different and our focus is different.
We are thrilled to have you here.
