Literally stole the thought out of my head. I was a band kid, but I always loved singing. I dont know all of the technical terms or proper techniques, but I know when I hear something special and she doesnt make people feel low brow when she explains things. I think its because she just loves music and really wants to help people understand the intricacies that she loves.

I've actually never listened to him so this is a new one for me - and I think he's fantastic. The emotions and the fragility he conveys really tug at my heat strings. The end with the crying/sweat reminds me of a friend who complains that his "eyes are sweating!". It also reminds me of one of my favourite Alice Cooper ballads, I Never Cry. "It's just a heartache that got caught in my eye/And you know I never cry, I never cry"
Teddy Swims makes almost EVERY cover he sings sound like it was was written for him, his voice is that versatile. And yes he is a beautiful loving soul, which of course comes out in his delivery. Do you ever listen to pieces that don't feature a vocalist? I was thinking of Tina S - her guitar version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata or Steve Vai's "For the Love of God". That kinda gravel is 100% natural. Think Louis Armstrong, Rod Stewart, Tom Waits. Also listen closely to when he talks at the end. That voice is all natural. He has the kinda soul in his voice that's rare in a white guy (Glenn Hughes, Mick Hucknell, Marti Pellow being about the only ones I can think of). Great singers... but I do prefer Bonnie Raitt's version though. Teddy's is more soulful...which is something I love.
I think there is more pain and resignation in Bonnie's version.

Do you ever listen to pieces that don't feature a vocalist? I was thinking of Tina S - her guitar version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata or Steve Vai's "For the Love of God". Even if you didn't react to them, I think you would love seeing her in action at around 16 yrs of age - for your own viewing and listening pleasure.

I hadn't though of this song in easily 20 years but it randomly popped into my head and I think it'd be an incredible analysis. The Lonesome Kicker - by Adam Sandler. Yeah, the mouth-breathers who think they're funny because they can regurgitate movie quotes all obsess over The Hanukkah Song, but The Lonesome Kicker is even funnier - and surprisingly enough Sandler actually shows he can sing.
Sandler does an amazing Bruce Springsteen impression in that song!

That kinda gravel is 100% natural. Think Louis Armstrong, Rod Stewart, Tom Waits. Also listen closely to when he talks at the end. That voice is all natural.
He has the kinda soul in his voice that's rare in a white guy (Glenn Hughes, Mick Hucknell, Marti Pellow being about the only ones I can think of).
