Lzzy has mentioned how this song takes on a special meaning whenever Amy sings with her. Instead of a regular love song, it becomes about their bond and sisterhood as two powerhouse females in rock. Love them both so much!
I see this a lot in music...two artists at the top of their game seem to be more interested in embracing friendship and what they can create together than in being rivals...whereas in many other pursuits like politics, business, and sports, they tend to embrace rivalry instead. I like music better. :-)
You can always tell when Elizabeth is enjoying a song a bit too much. She completely drops the professional persona, and looks like a little kid being surprised with ice cream. Its rather cool actually to see someone who is clearly a professional in an area, but still has the ability to tap into what made them love it in the first place.
This is why she's my favorite vocalist reactor. She's clearly so passionate about the craft. It's awesome to see someone who loves their profession immensely.
The way this started was Amy approaching Lzzy when they were on tour together in 2012 and asked Lzzy if she (Amy) could come out and sing backup on this song. They ended up doing it as a duet for the rest of the tour, and then when Halestorm decided to include it on their 'Reimagined' EP they invited Amy to come record it finally.
Can you imagine being Lzzy and having grown up with Evanescence, and Amy freaking Lee comes up to YOU and asks to sing with you. I bet Lzzy's soul left her body for a second.
Is it possible to get chills on top of chills? Just starting off with Lzzy's voice was giving me serious chills - then Amy comes in, and there it is - chills on top of chills! Then that chorus - woh. Two of my favorite singers just making purely angelic art - I just couldn't ask more as a fan of both. Perfection almost seems understated!
I know nothing about music, but even I teared up a couple times during this song. The first at the first harmonizing, even before Elizabeth reacted. I knew that there was something special there
An interesting thing that you bring up the different way they moved their hands. It sort of mirrors their voices. Amy's is like a calm ocean horizon, serene and almost haunting, whereas Lzzy's is more like rolling waves, it can be rough and more chaotic but it can also be soft. Truly a beautiful duet.
Amy and Lzzy voices just blend so well together. Amy Lee is such a nerd of harmonies by the way. She loves doing them. If you want to react to another of her most beautiful duets you should react to her featuring for the last EP from Bring Me The Horizon. It’s called “one day the only butterflies left will be in your chest as you march towards your death”. She harmonised with Oly Sykes and it sounds like a very tragic love story, even though the lyrics draw inspiration from Human Kind toxic relationship with our planet.
Ditto that. Probably the best song in Rock. Soft or killer strong what you get is clarity and emotion. Now team her up with another great voice and the result is simply - gorgeous. What a joy for all your fans to hear you discuss this jewel. Thanking you in advance.
Fun fact: Lzzy once said that the producer told them to sing this together until they get it recorded in one take (yes, this is one take, sonically), so that's where this perfect connection between them comes from ^^
I saw Halestorm & Amy Lee perform this song in the pouring rain in Chicago a fews years back. Lzzy and her piano were soaking wet, we were soaking wet, Amy brought out an umbrella that didn’t really help. It was heaven.
That tends to make for really memorable experiences, had the same experience with a rock band that refused to stop playing even when it started pouring. 😎🤘
Elizabeth, your physical reaction is so wholesome - it's like you're watching two of your friends just absolutely crushing it and rooting them on as they do it! You strike this uncommon balance- one that I rarely see in the musical reaction/analysis genre- between being objective, technical, and analytical about the music while also emphasizing and reminding us (the listeners) that they are also two humans expressing authentic, relatable emotions.
One of the best pieces I've heard from Amy Lee is Speak to Me. The writing, her voice and the orchestration is so beautiful and I think it is worth reacting to.
THEIR VIBRATO MATCHES! They are perfect together! They match perfectly in every way. You can't edit this much perfection into a piece of music. I've never fanboyed this hard ever. This just blew me away.
This is an emotional watch for me. My wife and I chose this song for the walk down the aisle. I don't remember crying so much ever, other than when our daughter was born.
They way you break down the vocal techniques in a way that everyone can understand sets you apart from other music reviewers who often either have a short and dry review or who display a disengenuous exagerated response with no real explanation. This shows a knowledgable and genuine expertise that is truly refreshing to watch. The expression and animation in your face when listening to the music, especial in the eyes and brow, reminds me of the awe and wonder in the eyes of a child who experiences something amazing for the first time. Your animated and expressive eyes and the way you smile, even the slope of the bridge of your nose, reminds me of modern disney princesses from movies like Tangles and Frozen. All of this combines to make for the most enjoyable experience. Thank you for sharing with us and thank you for being you. God Bless!
Lzzy is one of the best rock vocalists of all time. Full stop. Amy is, too. Them duetting is just... WILD to me. I never thought I'd see it ever, and UGH, GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME I HEAR IT.
This is not at all my style of music, I had never heard of Halestorm, but this duet is absolutely magical. Not just the song but the way their voices & spirits blend. Thank you so much for this reaction, I wouldn’t have heard this song otherwise.
"Put your lighter in the air and bring me back home." Is possibly the greatest rock concert lyric ever. I brought a butane lighter to the only show where I saw Lzzy. She didn't ask, but I stood ready.
If you close your eyes and listen to each voice imagine each one is its own character in a ballet dancing through, your mind's eye. Lzzy's character is lost in a void looking for hope, hearing the echo of her love calling her home like a light house. as they dance around the story get even more beautiful, helping each other grow and build the sound together. They are each other's safe place to breakdown and confided in and as they switch rolls in the song it is showing the dance of their voices even more. It is truly a beautiful song and dynamically executed.
Seen Halestorm open up for Staind and Godsmack several years ago. The scream Lzzy belted to open the show before dropping into "I Miss the Misery" still gives me goosebumps so many years later. Her voice is 1000% of what you hear on any of her recordings. AMAZING!
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to this song, and I loved this performance. Lzzy and Amy's vocals were amazing. Their duet was one of the most beautiful collaborations I've ever heard, and together, they created a truly harmonious masterpiece. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
This has to be one of the best vocals I have ever heard. To be honest growing up I thought Heavy Metal was about screaming in the mic. These ladies not only changed my mind but has shown me how raw of talent this type of music really is.
I love how their voices complement each other's, AND their vibrata is absolutely evenly paced with each other's. I mean, everyone's vibrata length is different. But these two rock powerhouse women just... they just WORK. I got chills.
My favorite version is Lzzy Hale ft. Amy Lee Break In (quarantine recording). I love it because it was done live during a radio interview and it’s still amazing.
Lzzy and Amy are special indeed. I took my daughter to see Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless for my daughter’s first concert (she was 14). My daughter wrote a letter to Lzzy who wrote her back! Lzzy wrote such inspiring words and included guitar picks and such. She was so impactful to my daughter. I later took her to see Evanescence for her 16th birthday and she got to meet Amy and the band. My daughter was so emotional and teary eyed and Amy just pulled her into a sweet bear hug and whispered words of encouragement. They are truly wonderful and empowering women who happen to rock as well. Evanescence and Halestorm are on tour and we already have our tickets .
This is the analysis i didn't know i needed right now in my life. This is actually my first time too. Fantastic music and wonderful analysis. I feel seen in the sound.
“My eyes started watering” says the nerd whereas most humans call this “crying”. Always makes me smile when Elizabeth cannot say crying or tears; you sound like Data on Star Trek when he gets to feel emotions and cannot express or understand them. Great reaction as ever my dear. Love, love love it 💜
I must of heard the "clean" version the first time. I straight up thought this was a gospel song. Their harmony in this recording is fantastic. I got a bit teary eyed just like Elizabeth. PERFECT! Absolutely perfect.
Lzzy's vocal coach was Steve Whiteman from Kix. She gives him a lot of well deserved credit. I wish Elizabeth would analyze Kix's Don't Close Your Eyes.
Great duet! My other favourite duet with Amy is Broken by Seether, if you don't know it you should check it out, some beautiful harmonies and a really moving song.
I love that the first time they sang this song together was when Amy surprised Lzzy by joining her on stage during a tour both bands were performing in, and I believe that tour is also when their friendship blossomed into such a tremendous bond. I adore both women as singers and performers; they're both so formidable and talented and powerful.
When Lzzy sings in the softer range, her voice is like smoke to me. Smoke from a fire mostly, I see it as a good thing and not bad cause I love campfires and the smoke from the fire carrying the scent of the wood and flavoring the roasting meat. And Yet Amy is like cool whispers on the wind (haunting like). I love both of them as singers but together they are something special.
Lzzy did a fantastic acoustic version of "She Talks To Angels" with Mark Mortan, guitarist with Lamb Of God, during lockdown, her vocal power and control is incredible.
They are the perfect duo in my opinion. They're voices stand out from each other's but don't overpower either, but they blend so beautifully and the contrast in styles really enhance their different vocal tones!
Both voices are great, but this duet is just on another level! Great artists having a good time, love it. If you're looking for more great duets: try Paradise by Within Temptation featuring Tarja! Their synergy live is just amazing as well :D
@@johnbovril309 I personally prefer the masters of rock version from 2019 (mainly because of Sharon losing track of Tarja on stage), but both are great!
If there’s a sound of heaven then this is it, boy oh boy, beautiful harmonies, two fantastically beautiful voices, voices that send me into another plane.
Not only does Amy Lee have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, she is also the most beautiful woman in the world. She absolutely takes my breath away.
Amy is not only one of the best singers ever ,what makes her special is her ability to take a fantastic song and make it better ,seether had a hit single in broken ,Amy took it redid it added strings and her voice and made it a huge hit shes so amazing ,that's taking nothing away from lzzy shes awsome as well
Also, when they recorded this song, they insisted on recording it together at the same time as you can see in the video so the mix is essentially uncut, like when movies do a one-take scene.
Lzzy is such an underappreciated real songwriter and poet and musician. It's so good to see people "get" her and what she's doing. And with Amy Lee... it's so powerful and beautiful.
The subject of the song is singing their heart out, to get the point across. You get a soft side and a hard side. Like a demon and angel, each on a shoulder. The analysis is complete, by a wise sage of musical skill and talent. The verdict is in: Both have the same story to tell and it is complete when both voices are heard together. Beauty, passion, sincerity, authenticity and emotion combined to make this a Reaction & Analysis video to remember. Thank you (again) Elizabeth, and the entire Charismatic Voice team. Great song choice. Great job!
This song is one that personifies what these two can truly do. This was my third time hearing this song and it still gives me shivers hearing the hauntingly beautiful and perfectly poignant harmonies that make the love talked about in the song become that much more connected to the listener. I met Amy Lee on October 24, 2006 and to tell you she is as genuine off stage as she is on stage is the biggest understatement of the century. This song shows that about both of them. They actually used a compositional technique called cross-voicing (which I think was mentioned in the video) and that technique is something that really helps the parts become more interesting than just keeping the high voice high and the low voice low (as they both have impeccable ranges) and it also helps with word painting, especially in this song where they have lyrics that talk about having or experiencing pain and the voices will cross, showing that pain. I truly experience the lyrics whenever I hear this song because they use compositional techniques, vocal techniques, and sparsity in the music, as well, to show raw feelings. Both are also amazing classical composers as well and Any Lee was trained in classical voice and technique (I'm not sure about Lizzie Hale, but it sure looks like she is). I am so impressed, too, with the passion they show when they are completely in sync with each other because they use that togetherness to create some of the most beautiful harmonies I have ever heard, and they help me to understand that rock/gothic rock music is not only about heavy, fast, chugging guitars, but it's about the sound the artist wants to portray with the music and (typically) how much pain the writer of the song has gone through. What a surreal fantasy this is to hear the perfect mesh of voices speak to me in this way. This song is incredible, not only because Amy Lee is my biggest musical hero and inspiration, but because the song was well done. I do not think I have heard a better song in the last 25 years (other than any Evanescence song) and I credit Amy Lee and Lizzie Hale for making this--one of my biggest musical fantasies--come true, and also for showing all of us what musicality, showmanship, passion for music, and incredible talent is. Thank you Charismatic Voice for sharing your thoughts on this song and for sharing what it means to be a great musician!
@@deborahbarry8458 No problem! I studied music composition in college and one of the exercises I did was to write a song for my favorite musician, Amy Lee, (and that song got onto Evanescence's 2011 self-titled album and is called Secret Door).
So, this is what Lzzy and Amy sound like together? It's even more beautiful than I ever hoped. Their voices cure the agony of my soul. New favorite. \m/
These ladies are great, each in their own right, but when they're singing/performing together it is as close to perfection as can be achieved. And Elizabeth, I always have to smile at your enthusiasm, excitement, and love for music and musicians. I love how much you get into it. Thank you for doing these videos.
I love that we have a song about how love forces you to let down your walls and be vulnerable, with Lzzy's vocals being more raw and emotional and Amy's being calming and stablizing. This is a tremendously beautiful duet.
Maybe it’s just me because I’m older but when Lizzy isn’t using her “big voice” she reminds me a lot of Pat Benatar. This actually sounds like it could have been a duet between Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson
I heard this song for a first time a few years ago, but I never saw this particular video. It does not matter how many times I hear it, everytime they sing togheter I feel a chill all over my body. Amy is amazing, theres no much else I can say about her, we all know what she can do. Lizy is also amazing, she have that beautiful "roughness" in her voice that she can "hide" (a little bit) till the perfect moment to use it, she can sing with soo much sweetness (but also soo much depth).
WOW!!!! My 2 favorite singer's. This song is just crazy!!!! They are absolutely perfect together and yes it is a little Hunting. Makes it that much better. These ladies are my two Favorites of all time. Amy has that Ghostly voice. They need to do more together. Love it!!!
8:50, 14:45 Notice how perfectly they start and stop each lyric line without requiring visual line-of-sight of each other's mouths! They always sing congruently somehow.
Seeing this live, and the obvious love and joy they have doing this song together is incredible!!! I've seen some incredible bands and live shows in my 50 years, but these two, doing this live, gets me every single time!
For those who have not heard them perform this live there a few videos out there where Amy joins Lzzy onstage and really captures how this was initially imagined.
The absolute best part if your videos above all is your raw honest emotion and love for music. Watching you is engaging. You put your emotions and love on display with no fear of being vulnerable. That rawness, watching you almost impatiently wait for the next note and tone, makes me not only notice and understand the emotion of a song, but makes me feel it, like truly feel the portrayed emotion of the song. It makes me feel the love in this song, or the sadness in snuff by Cory Taylor. Watching your reaction is an amazing experience in and of itself.
Thank you for reacting to these two amazing artists. I love Lzzy and Halestorm, any time they do a show near me I go. Sometimes I feel Lzzy is singing just to me out of the crowd she is so personable and into her music. I saw them at a very small bar venue once and they poured themselves out the same as if they were performing to thousands and I love that. Amy is the same, she doesn’t just sing her music flows out of her as if she cannot contain it. You did a very accurate evaluation of the song.
If there were a song that would call me to Tir Na Ogg, it would be this one. Lzzy and Amy have the voices of angels. Their harmony brings me to tears every time.
This is the THEME song of transitioning to Tir Na Nog. The only other song I love just as equally and that I think is the theme song of magic and wonderment is "She Moved Thru The Fair." It's... haunting. No matter who sings it.
So can't wait to see these two absolute powerhouses of Rock again come December! They're both easily in the top 10 of this generation so to be able to see them together, and especially experience their harmonies will be a great way to slip back into live music after far too long away.
I’ve heard Halestorm play this live, but never heard this version with Amy. I got chills, amazing. Another live recommendation, alter bridge (myles Kennedy) playing words darker then their wings at the royal Albert hall.
I'm seeing both of them in concert in December, and I hope they do this song together during the show. I've seen Halestorm a dozen times or so live, they are freaking awesome.
Amy Lee could harmonize with a lawn mower and it would be beautiful lol. This song was always lzzy version of “my immortal” to me. I love both of them
☝😁 So true.
Harmonize with a lawn mower 😂😂
Best part is, it's ridiculously true.
I feel an undeniable urge to make a mashup of this now!!! 😆
Lawn mower harmonies... Lmao 🤣
Omg this comment made me lose it ! 🤣🤣 BUT that statement is facts lol
Lzzy has mentioned how this song takes on a special meaning whenever Amy sings with her. Instead of a regular love song, it becomes about their bond and sisterhood as two powerhouse females in rock. Love them both so much!

Then it's not "too much" if it's a good thing ;)
@14:00 like a 5 year old who wants to tell everyone that they just saw a fire engine go past!
Someone has mentioned this before and referred to her facial expressions as to a Disney Princess - expressive eyes.
Yeah, for me it’s when she gets these expressions that’s like a special kind of crazy.
Did anyone else get goosebumps when Lizzy and Amy started harmonizing!!!! WOW!
amazing well done.
OMG! Holy moly yes!
"I don't want to interrupt this great build..." - That's okay, TH-cam will throw an ad right in the middle of it.

One of the most amazing things about Amy Lee is the fact that her speaking voice and her singing voice are almost two different voices.
The way this started was Amy approaching Lzzy when they were on tour together in 2012 and asked Lzzy if she (Amy) could come out and sing backup on this song. It takes 10 years to make àn overnight sensation.
That’s an awesome story. Both of them together is sublime.
"Instinct" from performing it and practicing it a million times?
Yep, here th-cam.com/video/HWOxoF_kVJo/w-d-xo.html
Can you imagine being Lzzy and having grown up with Evanescence, and Amy freaking Lee comes up to YOU and asks to sing with you. I bet Lzzy's soul left her body for a second.
Watching a vocal coach gush about a dynamic duo like this put's my faith back into humanity.
Amy Lee and Lzzy are basically poetry in motion. One voice compliments the other, and it doesn't matter that they switch up. It just gets better.

Not the first time. They sung this song in a video before recording it.
That moment when Amy takes her harmonization above Lzzy just does me in. Such a beautiful duet!
Brilliant analogies.
Almost haunting is an understatement. She is the queen of haunting and I mean that as a compliment.
Amy and Lzzy voices just blend so well together.
Amy Lee is such a nerd of harmonies by the way. She loves doing them. If you want to react to another of her most beautiful duets you should react to her featuring for the last EP from Bring Me The Horizon. I was at that show too! Great!
Two of THE BEST female rock vocalists ever!
Gotta check out “A Familiar Taste of Poison” by Halestorm. Lzzy’s voice in it is insaneeeeeeee
Live at jimmy fallon
My favorite Halestorm song ever!
Yessssss please! I’ve never seen a reaction to that performance. Please look into it!
The first time I heard that song I thought it was an Evanescence song, possibly unreleased or a single track.
I saw it live, it was an amazing experience!
Two of the best artists ever. Even better when they collaborate
I've not heard this song before, those harmonies blew me away! There is always something special about Amy's voice
It is from The Strange Case Of album by Halestorm where it wasn't originally a duet.
I'm a sobbing mess, this was beautiful. The two of them are so wonderful with there vocal talents.
Who's cutting onions? I'm not crying... you're crying. Two of my favorite female voices. I have to listen to some metal after this.
No. I'm not crying . 😢

THEIR VIBRATO MATCHES! They are perfect together! They match perfectly in every way. You can't edit this much perfection into a piece of music. I've never fanboyed this hard ever. This just blew me away.
Amy & Lzzy are amazing individually, together they are more than the pieces they bring to the song.
Complete cold chills as soon as Amy Lee opens her mouth. This is a perfect match.
This performance is a master class in singing a duet!
Damn the moment Amy opened her mouth, this song became something else, what a beautiful duo, so moving and haunting.
This is an emotional watch for me. My wife and I chose this song for the walk down the aisle.
I don't remember crying so much ever, other than when our daughter was born.

Halestorm is a very worthwhile exploration, especially if it’s not typically your go-to genre. Lzzy is a aggressively talented and skilled vocalist.
She's so hauntingly beautiful. Her singing has the ability to just grab your heart and pluck it like strings of an instrument.
"Put your lighter in the air and bring me back home."

I'm not a massive seether fan maybe like 2 or 3 of their songs but yes Broken is a great song with great harmonies
Yes--absolutely!
I saw Halestorm and you can’t imagine her singing through a whole concert, what a voice, night after night.
I love Lzzy's voice and her music...but damn is Amy Lee on another level. She is incredible.
I love that the first time they sang this song together was when Amy surprised Lzzy by joining her on stage during a tour both bands were performing in, and I believe that tour is also when their friendship blossomed into such a tremendous bond. I adore both women as singers and performers; they're both so formidable and talented and powerful.
They've been performing this song together for years so I'm sure they've tweaked it over time as their voices have matured! EPIC!
I love both of them as singers but together they are something special.
lzzy has the perfect voice to sing songs like korn has soft and fragile and then desperation and anger when going all in i love those kind of voices.
This is a very interesting way of visualizing a song. I think that's cool
Totally agree with this, live at hellfest is amazing.
@@johnbovril309 I personally prefer the masters of rock version from 2019 (mainly because of Sharon losing track of Tarja on stage), but both are great!
Hmm might have to give that a listen too
If there’s a sound of heaven then this is it, boy oh boy, beautiful harmonies, two fantastically beautiful voices, voices that send me into another plane.
Not only does Amy Lee have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, she is also the most beautiful woman in the world. She absolutely takes my breath away.
Amy is not only one of the best singers ever ,what makes her special is her ability to take a fantastic song and make it better ,seether had a hit single in broken ,Amy took it redid it added strings and her voice and made it a huge hit shes so amazing ,that's taking nothing away from lzzy shes awsome as well
Lzzy and Amy's voice compliment each other so perfectly in this song. I'm glad you finally get to hear it too!
Also, when they recorded this song, they insisted on recording it together at the same time as you can see in the video so the mix is essentially uncut, like when movies do a one-take scene.
Both of these singers are absolutely amazing. Together is something special.
Lzzy is such an underappreciated real songwriter and poet and musician. It's so good to see people "get" her and what she's doing. And with Amy Lee... it's so powerful and beautiful.
When the two female gods come together...nothing but grace
YES OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!! Great analysis as usual!
19:38 -- you had one job, Kirk 😜
🤣
Ah! I thought I heard the high voice and the low voice switch over! Thanks for the explanation.✨
My 2 favorite voices
And Elizabeth just justified my love.
These ladies are great, each in their own right, but when they're singing/performing together it is as close to perfection as can be achieved. And Elizabeth, I always have to smile at your enthusiasm, excitement, and love for music and musicians. I love how much you get into it. Thank you for doing these videos.
I love it how Elizabeth became so emotional because the song is so beautiful and a little bit sad at a same time. I kinda felt the same way.
Their voices together is an amazing symphony
No joke, this song hangs on my bedroom wall as a love song my wife bought me as an anniversary gift
I love that we have a song about how love forces you to let down your walls and be vulnerable, with Lzzy's vocals being more raw and emotional and Amy's being calming and stablizing. This is a tremendously beautiful duet.
Only Elizabeth could have analysed this golden performance with her nuanced knowledge and expertise. So thank you The Charismatic Voice
I have tickets with my girlfriend to see this tour!
Their timing is perfect that comes from teaching and raw talent + Knowing material. That's as impressive as way they sound together!
Maybe it’s just me because I’m older but when Lizzy isn’t using her “big voice” she reminds me a lot of Pat Benatar. This actually sounds like it could have been a duet between Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson
Your right when I hear her I think a lot of Pat Benatar from her soft stuff to the hard
You know what? I'd actually love to hear Pat and Ann take this on.
Imagine those two 😍
That's an extremely high compliment for this song and this duo....but it's spot on! 😉👍
Check out halestorm's cover of hell is for children
I heard this song for a first time a few years ago, but I never saw this particular video.
It does not matter how many times I hear it, everytime they sing togheter I feel a chill all over my body.
Amy is amazing, theres no much else I can say about her, we all know what she can do. Lizy is also amazing, she have that beautiful "roughness" in her voice that she can "hide" (a little bit) till the perfect moment to use it, she can sing with soo much sweetness (but also soo much depth).
There is a old Version live where they sing together in New Jersey absoluty amazing.... Everytime i hear the Song i got goosebumps.... 😍🇩🇪
Was just about to say that. Its a bit of a faster tempo and just blows my mind.
You HAVE to check out the live version of this from years ago.
It's fan filmed,but WELL worth a watch.
Amy Lee is just incredible, love her voice....
Again I will say that LZZY HALE is the QUEEN...the sounds that come out of her mouth are amazing...AMAZING...
Oh, I hadn't listened to this song in a while. It's gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Beautiful rendition *chef's kiss*
Amy Lee will always gv me goosebumps 😍😍😍
