    I really love the Lyriq. Does the mapping software tell you the state of charge at the destination in advance? I understand that Tesla's do this, but wondered if the Lyriq does as well.

    • @thenetworkarchitectchannel
      @thenetworkarchitectchannel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It does. The guess o meter (GOM for short) on the LYRIQ uses Google tech. I have found it to be much more reliable for the destination state of charge (SoC) than Tesla navigation. I use to drive a TesM3 as my daily driver and the GOM there fluctuated quite a bit in route. The GM / Google one does not near as much and the initial guess is often spot on.

    Really intriguing experience, and thanks for sharing it. What was your experience with the charging curve from a low SOC? The vehicle looks eminently comfortable, and, crucially, its interior isn’t overwhelmed with sunlight (and thus heat) as is the case with the MY. I’m happy with my MY and the Supercharger network; that said, if GM had committed to the Tesla Supercharger partnership when I made my purchase, I would have strongly considered the Lyriq. Safe travels!

    • @thenetworkarchitectchannel
      @thenetworkarchitectchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We owned a M3LR. The charging experience in the Lyriq is several generations behind Teslas. That is 90% due to the differences between public DCFCs against the Supercharger gold standard. When others r allowed to use SCs, that difference will be gone. I really think the move by Tesla takes away a key distinction and will likely end up hurting their sales. I guess we’ll see.

      If you are new to EV life, then it is an adjustment. However, most of life is daily grind where fuel is found overnight in the garage, making it more convenient then gas. To answer your question directly, ~30 min. Our friends made the trip in about 90 min less in their ICE car who were on the cruise with us and live in the same city.

      Most of the time in the Lyriq, it is my wife choosing. I agree a steady 100 kW - 80 kW is often better then an erratic 150 kw - 40 kW, but my wife doesn't entertain geek speak from me well. When I post up driving, I normally choose the 100 kW Deltas at EVgo ReNew locations.

      @@DazedSean I assume it is the electronics in the on-board charger.

    • @jimmurphy5355
      @jimmurphy5355 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thenetworkarchitectchannel When DC fast charging an EV, there is no on-board charger involved. The DC from the cord goes straight to the battery. All the AC to DC conversion, and voltage and current regulation is done by the charging station. The car does have control of the charger - it tells the charger what current to push, based on the state of charge of the battery, and the temperature of the battery. But the actual charger(s) are in the big electronics filled boxes off to the side of the charging lot.
      The maximum charging rate the car allows or asks for is set by the engineers that program the car's brain. With a simple software update your car could charge at 350 kW. That might dangerously overheat the wiring in the car, or the battery, or seriously degrade the battery by forcing current into it faster than is best for long life.
      My guess is that GM is simply being sensibly conservative, and setting a more moderate peak charge rate to minimize wear on the battery.
      Hyundai is being less conservative, and shooting for the best possible spec for advertising purposes, and skirting closer to the point where the battery is being damaged a little with each rapid charge. It will be 5+ years before we see whether that comes back to bite them.

    Nice video-- But you need to talk us through the trip. You have a great voice and good info, so use it!! But at times this feels more like a visual road trip, which is cool. But I was expecting to hear more about the charging experience. Also, be careful just waving the camera around at things (around 5:35), I understand you are just holding the phone in your hand, but for the viewer this is too fast to see anything and gets annoying real fast. Better to just cut it out and show us something that we can see and understand (like the DCFC screen or the Lyriq charging screen).
    I'm a Tesla guy, so it's great to see the other charging networks up and working. We're all in the EV family!!!

      I am a Tesla fan boy too. If it were not for Tesla, EVs would still be less then 1% of sales globally. They are dragging by force of will the rest of the industry into electrification in one of our age's most significant paradigm shifts which I support whole heatedly. I am passionate about EVs and Tesla is the undisputed leader.
      As for my video skills, I agree I produce armature content with respect to lighting, sound, and camera movements. @@billjohnson3344 I have driven EVs for a couple of years. Although I did not ever do a 100-0 range test, I can say a 102 kWh battery pack is noticeable in the distance it covers between charging stops. My wife drove it from our home north of Charlotte to Surf City, NC / Top sail beach w/ stops along the way all on a single 100% charge. That was not achievable in the 2019 M3LR we had previously. For my view, I trust Tom M.’s results as accurate. U r welcome to a different opinion.

    • @billjohnson3344
      @billjohnson3344 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thenetworkarchitectchannel Size of the battery pack is only part of the equation. Comes down to efficiency and the pack size. I also have driven EV's for years, including a LR Model 3 also. Smaller pack, but much more efficient for weight and aero. Agree that even so that Lyriq is a bit better than that, but not as good as Tom's test. Key is what his actual average speed was. On a highway trip if you drive for only 70MPH for a particular stint (zero traffic or other local driving), hard to quite get those numbers - never had Lyriq beat the EPA figure at sustained (and only) highway speeds.

    • @thenetworkarchitectchannel
      @thenetworkarchitectchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@billjohnson3344 I respectfully disagree. He drives the same loop on all his range tests, so it is as fair as can be made, IMHO. Unlike Tesla's the Lyriq is not engineered for efficiency. It is engineered for comfort, which is why it was given a larger battery pack. Given the choice, I would ditch efficiency for comfort every day of the week. My wife's hip was hurting driving the Tesla. We moved her to a Lyriq. Prob solved. Thx for the well thought out comment.

      Thx for watching. W/Autocharge+, there is no app or paying at the charger. It is like a Tesla Supercharger where you just plug in. No app or LCD screen interaction needed.
      EVgo does not retain the SoC in the app history, but 40 kWhs were delivered in the 33 minutes. We have a 102 kWh battery so that is about 40%. With larger batteries, SoC in a given time is not a good measurement, IMHO. Better the number of kWhs delivered. For instance, on a Silverado, that would be only 20% SoC since it has a battery twice the size of the Lyriq and four times the size of the Leaf or Bolt.

      After being a Tesla owner, it is easy to transition to other EV brands.
      There is a reason the Tesla Model Y is the #1 car by sales volume on the planet currently, unseating Toyota from the top spot.

    What was the sound at 9:10 in the video

      An adjacent car’s door opened and a lady reacted to something that startled her. My wife actually told me I should add a blerb explaining the sound. I guess she was right (again). :-)

      There is a comparison graph at the end of the above vid. I don’t completely agree with all their #s, but the two r not $14k away from each other and the Y lacks many luxury options the Lyriq has.

      I am going to have to agree with you. I am putting the final touches on a new one which is almost completely free of back ground music. I’m still learning. Thx 4 the candid feedback

    Couldn’t watch it, I don’t get why people think that putting annoying music in their videos is a good idea.
