- Cadillac is finally pumping out the all-electric Lyriq in volume and it could be the vehicle that makes people forget about tailfins, chrome, floaty chassis dynamics and Cimarron. Lyriq is handsome, comfortable, roomy, powerful, quiet and packed with tech. Tom Voelk checks out an AWD Sport 3 with Super Cruise and finds it to be a solid value with room for five full sized adults. Now about that wobbly charge port door…

This is the first good-looking Lyriq I’ve seen. I didn’t know they had made so many revisions since it was introduced. The front graphics are definitely an improvement on this trim.
"The front graphics are definitely an improvement"
This one is different? It doesn't look different to any of the others I've seen. What was changed?
@@morstyrannis1951 This is the Sport model. It has different nose graphics for starters.
The sport 3 is the best looking trim with the dark 22’s and the different lighting sequences
My man said crisp Air Force ones ….thats a like !
Fun fact, I've never owned a pair. Which is odd.
Don’t tell him that teen girls rock dirty AF1’s 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Great review. I finally got my RWD Level 2 Luxury January 1st of this year. Two years after I put down my deposit. I agree with all you said. I am totally pleased with everything about the car. It was worth the wait. I had already planned a one month winter getaway and drove it 4,000 miles in February. No problems at all. This is my first EV and charging was never an issue. Love the Supercruse. PS: The rear wiper was never missed. I drove through, snow, rain, desert dust and the back window stayed clean. Design slope and rear spoiler seems to keep it clean. Range note. I consistently about 300 miles on a full charge in all types weather. Turning on the Heat or AC did not seem to effect the range much, if any. Great car, highly recommend.
Enjoy. I'll disagree on the rear wiper though being a Seattle guy. 😉
Finally seeing these on the roads! One of the best looking Cadilacs in decades
People admire mine and throw compliments all the time.
Especially women…
I have seen one yesterday in
Union NJ This ride is very sharp looking very beautiful suv only thing I wish it was a V6 or V8 version of this ride
It would definitely put Mercedes and BMW or Audi to shame definitely it would sell more of them
Just don’t trust Ev cars or SUV they are not reliable at all
This is the review I have been waiting for Tom. Thank you!
Congrats on the Level 2 home charging Tom, it is the gamechanger for EV ownership.
Depends on your use…I had a level 2 charger in my last home and it was great. I moved to DC and rent now. Owner doesn’t want to install one…I’m not missing it. I use my Niro EV to commute daily (40 miles a day), and plug it in every other day and all weekend with no issues…So, folks who can’t install one shouldn’t be turned off from EV buying if you aren’t driving a lot of mile daily in relation to your vehicle’s range…
@@petegalindez9961 Yep, been running a level 1 charger for years now and haven't had a problem with needing to keep the car topped up over time! I have a level 2 charger I haven't installed yet since I just don't need it. Unless someone has a marathon daily commute a level 1 is more than enough over time as long as they keep their car plugged in at home.
I love how you bleeped out the “hey google”. Thank you!
It's a nice little touch. I was about the post the same thing.
But when takes a dig at google at the end of the video, he and doesn't bleep the name😆
Glad Cadillac stepped up to the plate👍🏻
It’s a shame it won’t last beyond its warranty period.
GM products are considered to be better than average in longevity and reliability according to JD Power. So there's that.
Great video Tom! I’ve had my 2023 Cadillac lyriq since July and besides the bugs here and there I absolutely love it. Appreciated the fresh Air Force 1s out the box reference also 😎
I've watched countless automobile and motorcycle review video's. This is the first one from you. You are now my favorite reviewer. Fantastic presentation and no meaningless fluff. You have also convinced me that the Lyriq is my next car after researching and driving EV's for some time now. Fabulous review on the Lyriq. Thanks so much for this. I am now a subscriber.
Very well done presentation, brief and to the point, Very informative!!Thanks
Happy Tuesday 🔥🔥🔥LOVE the Channel, goes well with my ☕☕☺️
GM has come a long way, there is so much about this car that I really like. But that charge door...man that brings back memories of 80s GM. It is a thing you will interact with every single day. It has to work perfectly even in bitterly cold and icy weather, when the whole thing is coated with an inch of ice, etc. How on earth did that become a place where the bean counters won the day? If you park in a heated garage maybe it will survive to the end of the lease, but it sure doesn't inspire any confidence. But you also have to pay $25 A MONTH for super cruise after 3 years, and you get to listen to an intrusive, low-speed warning noise constantly in stop and go traffic, not to mention they are dropping support for Apple Car Play so that may not work for the life of the vehicle. Those are all pretty good reasons to not buy what is otherwise a pretty top tier effort. GM has some of the best engineers in the business, their chassis tuning is some of the best in the industry, etc. But the engineers apparently still need a little more authority to veto the accountants.
Can't imagine why anyone would leave expensive cars outside anyway.
@@richardmorris6365 I no longer live in cold climate (thank God) but did for a long time before. You still have to park outside a lot such as workplace parking lots even if you have a warmed garage at home
@jfk5402 that's true but I retired early so my car sits for no more than 30 min. I think I'd use a car cover these days I'm super fussy
I ordered my Lyriq SPORT 3 in May 2022.
My order didn’t show up till March 2024.
I ended up taking a LUXURY 3 instead.
I think Cadillac’s biggest mistake was having so many trims.
This car should be fully loaded with the only options being the power moonroof, wheel size and paint/interior color.
For them to take away the ventilation/ massage and ambient lighting from the “tech” trim was stupid. This should not be a “cheap car”.
This is the best review I’ve seen on a car. Definitely glad I stumbled upon your page!
Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks again for your quality, premium reviews, Tom. Congrats on the Chargepoint. That's the one I have and like it a lot.
Yeah, it's been great to have L2 charging though wifi doesn't like my cave of a garage so I'm working on an extension. Thanks for support!
Thanks for a well-prepared video. I've been looking at the Lyric and your review may have convinced me to press-the-buy-button!
Glad it was helpful!
Supercruise seems fine for regular interstate touring drivers.
It's kind of unbeatable actually
That's one thing GM definitely got right. They may screw it up down the road, gotta keep the faith. Let's put it this way: It's too good to leave alone.
More than fine it's the best there is
That is what it is designed for, fully hd mapped roads.
Well done on the L2 charging. Can't wait to see what EV you get and looking forward to your videos on EV ownership. ..and Martin, too!
Great video, Tom! I can't believe you even provide chapter navigation in your videos! I gawked at a Lyric as I drove past a Cadillac dealership a while back but I didn't know what car it was. Now I know! Thanks!
Your reviews are really second to none, Tom. Well shot, well edited, informative and never pushy in your opinions. I've seen a few Lyriqs rolling by in Los Angeles and it is a beautiful vehicle that stands out even in this EV-crazy city. I admire GM's push toward electrification and wish them all success.
Awesome presentation, beautiful ride!!❤
Saw you filming this one by the qfc off Holman and wondered who you were. Just found your channel and liking the reviews I’ve watched so far!
Congratulations on your Level 2 charger! The planet and I both thank you heartily!
This car makes a Model Y or X look like something from Harbor Freight.
Yep, slam the door on a Model Y. It sounds like a base model Kia.
Model y was never designed to be a luxury car .
@@larryjolicoeur7169 Yeah but Tesla kept trying to compare it to the luxury segment in terms of sales. They try and have it fit, whatever the argument.
Oh I guess the falcon wing doors are harbor freight too then. Cadillac.....hahaha.....what a joke.
@@guru2899 The stupid falcon doors that leak like a sieve? I guarantee you have never driven a Lyriq. It’s a fantastic car.
Really liked your comments on the inside door releases. Reminds me of mid-century luxury brands at their heyday.
Yes, they are especially robust in these days of plastic.
Congrats Mr. Campbell on the new vehicle purchase. Congrats Tom on getting that level 2 charger installed. Looking forward to seeing what vehicle you choose.
With that thumbnail text, I thought this was about the CT5V Blackwing manual! 😁
I did not know the cup holder center could be pushed down for a handle. Thank you for pointing that out!
Nice . . . and I love the color!
Best Lyriq review on YT🎉, looking forward to seeing more EV reviews! Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
These catch my eye every time I see them on the road
Great review. I agree. The LYRIQ is a value. I feel more lux options present then the sticker conveys. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.
My experience with fast charging is simple. It takes 20 to 30 min regardless of state of charge. The top charge rate is mostly theoretical, right ambient and battery temp, low state if charge (20% or less), etc. Though the EQS max charge rate is 200, most of the time, 150 is more like it given all the stars that need to align to get it. I live in mid WI, so I do a lot of DC charging at cold temps.
I pretty much agree with what you say. It's situational. And the most powerful terminals are usually 150kW.
Love mine! So smooth. It does have preconditioning. It's automatically triggered when you put the EV charging location in Google maps. If he was borrowing it, he doesn't have that access.
What is the SD card slot for in rear storage? Dash cam recordings?
Picking up our 2024 Sport 1 AWD today. Fantastic interior and the punch is awesome from 0-60.
Enjoy it!
It’s stunning!
My passengers call it "Spa Music", under 20MPH, They love it!❤ I got the 2024 AWD, SPORT LEVEL 3 w/every upgradeable option available & OH WOW, WHAT A MACHINE!🎉(Triple coat white w/blk & charcoal pinstripping) Beautiful!
Thanks, Rob; we appreciate your help making the video with Tom for us. I hope you & your loved ones are all doing well. I must admit Tom, Martin & Rob are my favorite modern-day silent film actors. Lol. They should get the Hush Award. Cya, in the next one
Rob is great. They are much more chatty when not on camera.
As usual, another fabulous review. Great looking car. Very impressive. I recall you recommended some good restaurants in Seattle. Our sone attends UW…we went to Delfinos and it was great. You mentioned a high end sushi place for special occasions, but can’t find it…do you recall? Thanks!
I have the same color Lyriq sport AWD and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned, hands down. It’s been a long time since I had a vehicle that I enjoy driving. My wife and I “steal” it from each other all the time. We absolutely love it. We have in home charging as well. Which is probably one of the main reasons it’s so enjoyable … having a gas station in your garage is beyond convenient!
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience. We have been looking into BMW and Lexus, but my wife suddenly noticed a Lyriq TV ad. Great to know that you enjoy it! This just might become the best seller for Cadillac and a new vehicle for us.
And I am seeing Cadillac break through age barriers again with this car - I see 30-somethings driving it as a family car... that they can charge at home. I have now seen two Cybertrucks in our southern U.S. city, so not exactly early adopters here. But I am seeing a lot of Lyrics. Great job, Cadillac.
This was a refreshing review. I have been considering electric for a little while, and the Lyriq really caught my eye when it was announced. I am long time BMW owner having worked for BMW for almost 20 years, but the SUV is not my style. I'll definitely be taking one of these for a spin to see if it's a good fit for me. My grandparents had Cadillac throughout my child/teen years and I've always had a little soft spot for the brand. Thanks for the fun in depth review
Great review! Glad to finally hear your thoughts on the car. Had one pre-ordered since Mat 2022 with that car never arriving. Luckily someone else couldn't pick up their Sport 3 in black with the white interior so I managed to snag it instead back in January.
Been absolutely loving the car and looking back really glad I was pushed to MY24 as the door pulls from the 23's were pretty bad and needlessly cumbersome. Also following the forums seems the debut editions & 23's have had many many more software bugs and issues. The software luckily seems to be mostly stable now (still dumb that they have paused OTA's and need you to take the car into the dealership to get module & software updates).
Overall Cadillac's rollout of their first EV has been a disaster and definitely something other companies should study as to what not to do.
I'm really enjoying my emerald lake luxury 2. It's a joy to drive.
Love the regen paddle that lets you choose how much regen you want. I wish I had one - in my car I have to pick a regen level for the gas pedal, but I wish I could just coast when letting off the gas and just regen brake with a paddle instead of the pedal.
Nice review and congrats on the charger! Hopefully the Miata continues to stick around and get used a bit!
The light display is truly next level. The Lyriq feels as revolutionary to Cadillac as the CTS and the Escalade redesign did back in 2002.
This car is sweet!
cadillac nailed it
Good video, we had a reservation waited 14 months, and ended up getting a Q8 e-tron because we could not wait any longer. Lack of HUD, disappointing. I agree the charge port wiggle feels way cheap definitely not on brand for Cadillac. They almost got it right.
i actually love the color ...
Watching this video confirmed our decision this past weekend to go out and test ride one. Of course it's hard to just test it... we ended up bringing home a new 2024 Lyriq Sport 3 after testing it. It took a lot to move me away from my Volvo XC60 Hybrid, but this car did just that.
Awesome you got one!
We will be getting the AWD Lyriq here in Australia. But given the delays experienced in the US, I wonder how long we'll have to wait?! Glad to see Cadillac changed those silly door popper handle things!
Excellent review. He seems like Doug DeMur’s professor. Lots of unique information.
Thanks!
Thanks so much Donald!
This truly is the Cadillac of EVs. If you want comfort, a good ride, and Cadillac looks. Than this car is for you. On the other hand if you want more value for your dollar. Than a Tesla Model Y AWD long range is the better buy. It all depends on your needs, and wants.
I love this car. It’s just priced more than I will pay for a car.
I said that, until I drove one. Now I have my own Lyriq.
(2024, Crystal White, Sky Gray, RWD, Lux 2)
Lucky man👍@@scottcarpenter8774
@@scottcarpenter8774I’d definitely have to get the awd version as I live eastern WA. Planning on relocating to SE Asia next year so I’m selling all my vehicles. If I move back that car is on the top of my list
Beautiful car. I’m still amazed at the affordability also
Pedestrian warning. Is called. “Sound of the Sun”
Yeah, but until I meet the guy that sampled it from old Sol, I won't believe it.
Unlike your Lucid Air GT review, I found this review quite informative. It did however confirm my suspicions regarding the Lyriq, that it is just another 300 range me too EV. With a chance to break away from the crowd, GM decided to be just another 300 mile range vehicle. Other than some interesting design choices and Super Cruise, your review has convinced me to not choose this unit. Especially with the monthly subscription charges associated with features on the unit. I hate that. This is probably your best review video. But I will be passing on this unit.
Good Job!
Great vid as always.
Waiting with baited breath to see what you and Martin get for EVs, as well as the logic behind your choices.
* bated breath
I've seen a lot of comments on the way the charge door opens and it seems to push itself out rather forcibly to maybe push past ice if it ever freezes. That's my guess. 🤷🏽♂️ It had to be a reason for the initial aggressive open then it slows down before if fully opens.
It looks great
Got tired of waiting for my Lyriq and bought an Audi e-tron. Would definitely consider it in the future…
Got my all wheel Sport 3 yesterday. I have a lot of cars including exotics. This car is as serious as any of them. My 2017 Volt is still one of my favourite cars of all time, beaten only by a 1929 Lemans Bentley I used to have. I think the Volt may need to move over.
Is the Lyriq rated to tow? If so what is the tow rating?
Thank you for the great job with the newest of the Caddy family. I am now 80% sure of how l fill about this vehicle. They are running a special down here in Houston but, you have to read the fine print. Like you l have other caddies. I have an Allante and a SRX model. The Lyric would be my first electric model. The Lucid is really nice but . I am still thinking
I don't want to hear the pedestrian warning tone, nor should my passengers, but I am still waiting for an EV pedestrian warning tone that sounds like the Jetson's flying car 😁
Nice!
I have 150,000 miles EV driving experience, 2013 Volt, 2017 Bolt EV.
Great review. Makes me want one.
My next is an Aptera. It’s all about efficiency….
Charge on!
I wonder how good it looks or how much the range is affected by adding the front license plate?
Probably very little
Tom, I was in Seattle last week and thought I could live near you. It turns out I cannot afford anything near Puget sound. I'll see you in Spokane.
Well, I'm seldom in Spokane. And let's just say I'm lucky that I bought looooong ago.
After 7 Cadillacs since 2005, I’m sorry to say I just can’t warm to the new styling theme. I went with Blazer EV RS and 600 miles in, I’m very pleased.
Tom, another great review. You definitely are one of, if not the best reviewer on TH-cam. Glad to hear you got a level two charger at home! So exciting! Now, we need to know what's on your short list of EVs to buy! I have a 2023 Mini Cooper SE that I bought because I loved the drive and my driving is mostly within 30 miles around my home, so it's plenty of range for me there. Good luck on your search!
You know, I LOVE the Mini SE and it would be perfectly fine for use in Seattle. Great car. Enjoy!
@@DrivenCarReviews yes! It’s pretty good for city living. I have a level 2 at home and a free level 2 at work, so my actual cost of charging is about $5-$10 a month if at all!
@@angeleon197 What's your real world range? Also, do you live in a cold climate?
@@DrivenCarReviews I do live in cold weather as I’m in Indiana. During the good months I’ve been getting as much as 140 miles. When it’s cold below 50 degrees I can get about 100 by using the seat warmer and the heated steering wheel.
Great review. I like that GM is really starting to pay attention to interior details---it's not perfect but very nice nonetheless.
I sure enjoy the show Tom. I can’t imagine anyone’s waiting to buy one of these. There’s at least six languishing on the Cadillac lot in Logan, UT- deeply discounted.
Great review. Hopefully the other GM electric vehicles will have a smoother launch.
Blazer EV was even worse
@@DrivenCarReviews Chevy Equinox had better go well and the $35,000 1LT actually ship in 2024. GM will be selling many more models than Ford or joke Stellantis, but it needs volume and profits
How did you get a great deal on your ELR? I have liked that car since it came out and have been looking for a 2016 ELR Sport with a good price.
It was a small window when GM offered huge incentives and dealerships wanted to get rid of them once it was discontinued. The MSRP on mine was $80K, paid the dealer $42K, then got $7,500 off from Uncle Sam. Cost me $1,100 to ship it from WI to WA though. 2016s were a $8-10K premium at the time and I couldn't justify it.
HE'S BACK, Who TOM🙏🏾🙏🏾
Congrats on finally installing the home flex unit! Hang on to that ELR...
maybe he can sell it to raise money for his next new camera
instead of hectoring his viewers to pay for it for him
Great car all around! Im not a fan of the sound at low speed, I hear ghosts personnaly, maybe it could be tune in the future. Thanks for the review
The EPA really needs to redo their ratings for EVs!
Actually, this is pretty close or even better when mixed driving is done at around 75 degrees. Most reviewers test them at highway speeds. And the EPA doesn't test them, the automakers generally use a set or criteria to do it themselves.
I have yet to hear about a lincoln option.
Tom, how would you Rate the ride and handling between the Lyriq and the iX? One pedal driving, etc.
One pedal is fully customizable so with that and the paddle it’s top notch. Lyriq is less athletic than the iX, turn in isn’t as crisp or compelling. The Cadillac’s interior is more traditional while still future forward.
@DrivenCarReviews Thanks for the insight. Love your reviews. We bought an iX some time ago, mainly because your review was spot on. Keep up the Great work
Spring Hill, Tennessee . . . Saturn’s former home.
To use the massage, all you need to do is press the center button.
The joystick is a bit tedious and switches between the massage intensity and the power lumbar.
Yeah, the button lush I got. But trying to toggle between massage and lumbar is a mess. And the lovely and charming was not amused.

What’s the deal with the SD card port in the lower cargo area, seen at 18:50??
I'm trying to figure that out. Not in the owner's manual. Might be for reloading map data, might be for a surround view camera recoding system in an update. I'll post when I know.
Sitting on mi loan check for weeks. Could find the car that jumped at mi.
Saw ‘23 LYRIQ parked at Home Depot…fell in love!

Who’d guessed I’d fall for electric? The future is here and the 7500 tax credit is awesome
I liked this car when it came out but in Switzerland …not sure when they will send them. And 5 months ago I bought a more sporty used Jaguar i-Pace and love it. Currently it’s a steal on the used market as everybody forgot about this model and the market is too small to absorb cars that come back from lease. I understand it’s the same in the US and many others places.
I like the i-Pace. Sadly it's become a non-starter here in the US with high prices and little to no promotion.
@@DrivenCarReviews agree 100%, since battery tech has not been updated since launch it makes no sense to buy new Today, why pay top $$$ for 2018 technology? Real bargain on the used market though (not your business)
Shocked anyone is waiting - my dealer in LI NY has at least 29 on the kit and I bought and picked mine up the next day.
Clarification: ‘24 Lyriqs do not qualify for the $7,500 fed credit, but GM is covering the same with a refund. It also qualifies for $500 NY rebate. Also check your utility may provide credits. My $1,500 charger credit covered all but $350 in parts and was installed in a week through thier Qmerit partner which was excellent.
There was a run of Lyriqs built from Dec 2023 to Fed 2024 that were not eligible for the tax credit due to a change in the rules and a Chinese component that put content over the threshold.. Those get the GM rebate. That issue was rectified early March. So the tax credit is back on. Buyers will get either or.
Love the color
Black is not a color. It is all colors mixed into one, but that is not a color.
If only ELR had survived long enough to get Voltec2 drivetrain. I (Mrs really) had an ELR & a Volt2 & needed to sell one of them & the Volt's drivetrain is too nice, still getting 70 miles per charge (53 epa), & w/regret had to sell the ELR. If only the Lyric (any GM vehicle, actually) had Voltec, esp updated. Volt gets 40 & up on gasoline. Great video Tom, thanks.
The ELR is a neat machine, but it was never going to be very popular. People aren't buying two door coupes, they want SUVs and crossovers. Cadillac and Chevy would've been wise to put that powertrain in a crossover. Looks like they'll be doing that in the near future now.
Im all about Caddies, old ones, new ones, fast ones & luxury. I had an SRX & now an XT5. I love it, why would i trade it,its 6 yrs old & better than new.46,000miles & zero issues other than a sensor & battery. My car is dead quiet inside except for my sirrius w/ bose spkrs.
Looking forward to the sedan version of this. Soon, I think.
There's no sign of a Cadillac EV sedan apart from the $340,000 Celestiq. Instead Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Mercedes EQE, or the excellent Tesla Model 3; everything else in the USA market is a crossover or truck.
All thanks to mary barra and her black leather jacket.
