There are not too many songwriter's out there still with us or not ,who could come close to writing a song of such intelligence and brilliance as Mr Jackson Browne did with The Pretender...yeah , not too many !
Saw him as a kid at a relatives music festival in 2011 with an unexpected guest being Don Henley, at that time I was 12 and had no idea who they both really were. I knew of the eagles & that was it, to watch him perform an acoustic set was spiritual to say the least. I’m 24 now and still reminisce of that day, if only I would’ve known!
Easily one of my favorite artist growing up. I can listen to this song over and over again. Hope to hear this song live after we get through the COVID period.
It,s always been fabulous, this is just my own thoughts, but he has not aged as gracefully as some, but, I think he was so awesomely good looking that any change is gonna be more noticeable. No disrespect intended.
I'm a fan since I purchased this album in 1976 - he laboured through this important performance - why did he not tap 2 first call female backing vocals?

I still, in 2021, nominate him for Best Hair of Rockstars.
Tom Petty wore it well also... Similar look in blonde.
I owe Jackson Browne $12.00 for sneaking into Red Rocks Amphitheater in 1977 to see his concert.
What an experience that must have been
me two at the Greek theater. In the trees.haha
He would be just happy you were there 🦋
Such a beautiful song.
It takes me back in time....
Another great poet doubling as a rock star. There are few and far between who can do it so consistently over 5 decades.

You don't have to wear tight spandex or tattoos to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Jackson definitely belongs
So many dark times were comforted by Jackson. I will always be grateful.
Ohhhh soooo gooood! Thank you Jackson for this beautiful music.
My child's father and I love your music. You are such a connection between us.
JB is on my side since 1973....
Danke ⚘
Classic Jackson Browne 🇺🇸 ♥️ 🎶

Love you’re music jackson Brown. Memories!!! 70s. 👍👍
Oh the memories 💗
The song of life.
So true. So true.
Love this one as well😊
Voice of an Angel!!
Off stage, a crew member motions to Jackson, "put in your ear pieces, dipshit!" Hahaha
Great!
I like how he just gradually gets more irritated at the sound guys
Don’t blame him though. It’s the HOF you think they’d try harder.
There was definitely something going on, I can,t tell exactly what.
@@melissatyree566 i think his ear monitor had no sound. He couldn't hear.
A truly wonderful performance, but then they all are from Jackson.
Love L.B.
An old fave since day dot

Christ, how many times does he have to point to the sound guys to increase his monitor volume? Get it together, team.
Oops
Mr. Soundman turn it up!

Lyrics
I'm gonna rent myself a house
In the shade of the freeway
Gonna pack my lunch in the morning
And go to work each day
And when the evening rolls around
I'll go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes streaming in
I'll get up and do it again
Amen
Say it again
Amen
I wanna know what became of the changes
We waited for love to bring
Were they only the fitful dreams
Of some greater awakening
I've been aware of the time going by
They say in the end it's the wink of an eye
And when the morning light comes streaming in
You'll get up and do it again
Amen
Caught between the longing for love
And the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
And the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the Pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there
Ah, the laughter of the lovers
As they run through the night
Leaving nothing for the others
But to choose off and fight
And tear at the world with all their might
While the ships bearing their dreams
Sail out of sight
I'm gonna find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint by number dreams
And then we'll put our dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again
Get it up again
I'm gonna be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
Though true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Are you there for the Pretender?
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Are you there for the Pretender?
Are you prepared for the Pretender?

Some mishap with his earpiece, I’ve always wondered who communicates with the singer, and what for 🧐
❤️💋♥️
Who's the drummer and guitarist on left in glasses ?
No sidetrack
Running on empty
I'm a contender not a Pretender...it sux
