The amazing thing about Jackson Browne is his voice. It has not changed. From 1972 till 2014 same strong voice. Running on Empty was the second album I purchased. This album came out in 1977 but was the backdrop to my senior year of high school in 1978.
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS....EVER!!!♥ "Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive. Try and not to confuse it with what you do to survive." Powerful words to a 22 year old gal trying to make her way in this world and looking for the guidance she didn't get from her family. I LOVE Jackson Browne for helping me navigate the times. ♥
Love me some Jackson Browne. I am 60 in my cd player in my car is Jackson Browne. Its 2021.. I love his simple and very real person that he is. Not fake and very humble. Thank you Jackson.. I graduated from high school in 1978.. Still Love ya!!!❤❤❤
@Annie0913 As I have said a number of times, Jackson makes us all a little kinder, a little gentler. He always leaves us better than he found us. What he represents to me is more than his music. He is a compass of goodness and decency for the human race. I saw him in August 2010 in St.Louis with his band and David Lindley. He took the crowd by the hand and walked us down that path like no other musician can. It was as though every kind soul in the region was there and we just all loved him too.
Thank you so much for sharing your comment. Every word is so true. Jackson Browne has a way of just touching, not just the heart, but the soul. He makes you think! I dearly love this man and his music.
I am 50 now, and I have loved him since I was 12- just about drove my sister crazy with how many times I played The Pretender and Everyman...he still has it and I am still smitten! Love you JB! Too bad Davis Lindly is not here.
Jackson write such beautiful, inspiring and meaningful music.! this song is about himself even- the years match Jackson's age (In 65 he as 17 in 69 he was 21) and about the life touring
Saw him on the 4th of June at CMAC in Canandaigua, AWESOME show. Check out www.setlist.fm/setlists/jackson-browne-7bd6b280.html for the songs he is playing every night.
I used to have a major crush on Jackson Browne. The best song he ever wrote and one of the best in Rock an Roll history is The Load out and Stay, Love it!
"Running on Empty" Fantastic perfomance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. at his 2004 Induction. Best Version per critics! Even if you have to "Run on Empty" the message is "YOU Can Do IT!"
Called his Best performance of this song, and born in '48, he was not young here! I once met a man who went to a health club he attended, so me thinks he took care of himself.
Mark Goldenberg on lead/slide, Val McCallum on rhythm. Scott Thurston (Petty) on keys/vocals right. Keys/vocals on left LOOKS to be David Sancious, but I could be wrong. Not sure on the drummer, nor the bassist. He tours with lots of folks! The original band on this (Running On Empty album) cannot be topped, especially the backing vocals of Rosemary Butler and Doug Hayward - legendary. And David Lindley's pedal steel solo, which is ably tributed by Goldenberg here on slide. This is a worthy cover of the original, included on what critics see as one of the finest live albums ever recorded - because of the singer, the songs, and the legendary band: Jackson, Lindley, Bob Glaub, Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar, Rosemary and Doug.
Seriously losing meter... WOW... Being a drummer thats the first thing I pick up on in a live performance.... The male singing the Runnin On part is flat and not on key.... AND this is not the same with out David Lindley....
There is a difference between getting into it for showmanship purposes and being sloppy. He lost his timing after the first verse. After that he also got sloppy. No dynamics what so ever. Cant hear the back up vocals (except I did hear the male singing "Runnin On" flat and way off key) nor the slide lead because he is pounding that snare. You could blame that on the sound man sure but its also the Drummer's responsibility as well. YES! I am a drummer....
+Lillieannen Sorensen ....you need to get out more..perhaps get your ears seen to. ?..Have a listen to the Late For The Sky album and report back maybe?
Lillieannen Sorensen omigod what have we become? You have no idea! This man made Geffin Records. All you think you know is nothing, so you sit there and trash one of the hardest working musicians who gives so much of his time to other people. It's so easy to trash talk behind the anonymity of the internet.Unbelievable.
I love at 3:43 the band does a quick chorus but it wasn't the right time (not at the end of the song) and Jackson just looks over like "um what" then comes in like a professional that he is and finished it off.
"looking into their eyes, I see they are running too " those words go right into the soul. I love Jackson Browne
That’s my favorite part too
Dream of mine. Road trip through America, with this blazing in the background. Greetings from Greece !
I am 50 now n JB was the soundtrack of my life...thanks for being there.
JB is one month and 4 days younger than I am, so for me, it feels like he has been singing about my life ever since the first time I heard him play.
Certainly in the top 3 singer songwriters of America!!!

Have you heard his new record? I got it for Christmas from my father and it surprised me that he's still so good...
I remember staying up all night doing homework as a hs senior, and listening to this album on headphones. One year after you lol
Also his good looks...
Man, this is nearly 20 years ago, where has the time gone.
It's all good, he is still touring! And yeah, the new album was worthy of the catalog!
Jackson Browne is the best of the best.Timelessly amazing.

Couldn't have said that better myself!

Insanely fantastic rendition of running on empty.

Jackson Browne has a very nice voice. Love this song!
Great performance and a great song. ❤
Great hair, Great Music 🎵
charming!!!!!
should have been in rock and roll hall of fame long time ago
Never gets old timeless
Stunning.
Thank you for all your music. I love your songs, especially, “In The Shape Of The Heart” 😘❤️😘
So happy for him. He is simply the best.
Well deserved honor
what a great performance of this song! I can so relate to this song, love Jackson and his music and politics!
1978 sitting on the rail above him singing this song and playing the piano. Bayfront Center, St. Petersburg, Fl
Annie, I couldn't have said it better myself!! And Yes Thank you Jackson Browne..
I remember 🎀🌹🎀
I can't wait to see Jackson at the Seneca Niagara June 24, 2016, hope he sings some oldies!
Saw him on the 4th of June at CMAC in Canandaigua, AWESOME show.

How was it? I'm dying to see him, someday.
I used to have a major crush on Jackson Browne. The best song he ever wrote and one of the best in Rock an Roll history is The Load out and Stay, Love it!
"TheEagles may have been inducted first, but Jackson wrote the songs they wish they'd written"-Bruce Springsteen
Gotta do what you can to keep your love alive

Wicked hard to play with strobe lights.
jackson browne personifies what it means to be a human being
AWSOME
@hoarse01 JB did thank Souther, Frey, Lindley, and more in his acceptance speech that preceded this performance.
@DawnSweetness That's it! Short and to the point. PERSONIFIE
I'd agree with what Annie said about Jackson Browne, but I'd have to definitely say the same about Dan Fogelberg!!! Sincerely, BobbyK
....looking into their eyes I see them running too...
go Mark!
Fuckin awesome.
Someone told Jackson that no one could ever figure out he was saying “tempt me”, so he adjusted. Kinda funny and cool.
M. Maiser. Southern Sem! 👍👌😎
Run Forest! Run!
I was just thinking that...
Song is a great song but this is not the same without his wing man David Lindley
Missed David Lindley and Rosemary Butler....
He wrote "Takin' it easy", so he co-wrote one of the Eagles' biggest hits!
+MrKaliban66 The song is "Take It Easy" and he co-wrote it with Glen Frey of the Eagles.
Where was Russ Kunkel ?????
Does anybody here know what brand and model of guitar Browne is playing here?
Jeb Howell looks like a fender mustang to me, or something of that variety
Can anyone name the members of his band that played on this?
Mark Goldenberg on lead/slide, Val McCallum on rhythm. Scott Thurston (Petty) on keys/vocals right. Keys/vocals on left LOOKS to be David Sancious, but I could be wrong. @@jimmulhern1706 You said it all. My only criticism of this performance is that the drums sounded too loud. Too much banging.
Lol late response but It's a Fender Jaguar.
@Annie0913 Stop yelling.
1:54 I'm sure you're a fine guitarist, but you ain't Lindley.
It should have been law.
He should of had David Lindley at this event......
My number 1 Eric my number 2 Jackson Browne ,My number 3 Neil
Clapton or Carmen? Young, Sedaka, Schon, or Peart?
Band is too loud. Put sox on the drummers sticks.
Drummers losing meter.. Pretty sloppy.
Funny you say that i like the drummer he looks so into it that's makes this such a great live performance.
Seriously losing meter... WOW... Being a drummer thats the first thing I pick up on in a live performance.... The male singing the Runnin On part is flat and not on key.... AND this is not the same with out David Lindley....

Timed it. Fairly consistent 1.8 seconds per 4 beats.
Runnin' on empty. anthem for a generation. That's all he had. One trick pony.
Absurd. He has a ton of great songs.
Wow..........that has to be one of the most asinine things I have ever heard......"one trick pony"? You need to get out more.....
+Lillieannen Sorensen ....you need to get out more..perhaps get your ears seen to. ?..Have a listen to the Late For The Sky album and report back maybe?

LOLOL! That is world class tone deaf. Among so MANY other things, we wouldn't have had Warren Zevon without him.
I love at 3:43 the band does a quick chorus but it wasn't the right time (not at the end of the song) and Jackson just looks over like "um what" then comes in like a professional that he is and finished it off.
