2021 ranger I already put in 13k miles and the best thing about the truck is the power train and the way it takes the road. It picks up quick the ride is smooth and the brakes work like a sport car. It’s my daily driver and I don’t get tired of driving it.
The FX4 trim package does have a locking rear diff, as well front bash plates, underbody skid shields. Also depending on the trim package you can change the 8" touch screen back round colors.

100% right!! that was missed same w the ambient lighting etc i loved the 'gateway to an f150' line lol i can go buy any f`150 and i, on purpose ordered a ranger so wtf a 'gateway' no its called i ordered/bought what i wanted too not a frickin gateway lol thats like saying a mx5-miata is a 'gateway' to a ferrari its called buyers buy what they want but loved the gateway-theory tho lol thats surely a new one

I know everyone is all up in arms about the "no V6". I just bought a 2019 Ranger. I was shocked at the power from it. I did not expect it at all. Its really impressive. plus with the 4cyl you get better mpg. Love the Ranger.

Everybody complains about the interior that it's dated and lot of hard plastics. I love my 2020 Ranger and I use this argument when I hear why people hate the interior. The Ranger is a world car it was designed for the world. Yes it looks like an interior of a 2013 Ford fusion , but how often do you touch the hard plastic almost never while you drive. Another thing is that the hard plastics are easy clean and maintain. The soft touches are where you want to touch steering wheel and arm rest. The screen is a good size on xlt and lariat and sync 3 works just fine. My only complaint would be is how the seats fold in the rear, but I knew that going into the purchase.
I'm sorry but its outdated. don't care about the plastics. there's no wireless charging. the steering wheel plastics by the hand placements are overly bulky and make 1 hand driving annoying. for a lariat it should have been refreshed. sad the stx on xl isn't like the f-150 where u get the 8in screen. the bronco and mach e are much nicer interiors and the f-150. the escapes got a better interior. all of fords other vehicles interiors are nicer. including the transits
For me, it’s a truck. I drove all the other midsized trucks and felt this had the nicest and most comfortable interior. I don’t want the F150 interior. Too much tech to all go wrong. I love the ranger interior. XLT Cloth Sync 3
I also have the 2020 Lariat with the black appearance package. My only complaint after 2,000 miles is a manual sliding rear window! I’m hoping that the redesign changes that. Adds a moonroof and replace the 2.3 with the 2.7.
Really wish it had 60/40 split folding seats in the rear. I'd pay for that option so my kid has somewhere to sit while I load bigger items in the cab next to him. C'mon Ford, it's literally the law to have kids in the back seat. Honda Ridgeline's back seats are perfection.
I agree!, I own a 2020 lariat and thing only thing I am sorry about is I wish I got the black package. Plus I owned a 1996 Corvette Collector Addition which had more plastic in the interior than my 2020 Ranger....great truck
Electronic diff. is included with the FX 4 pkg. and is an option that can be ordered on its' own, a must for off road use. I ordered my 2020 Ranger Lariat, FX 4 with towing pkg etc.... and included the Ford Performance Stage 2 package, great add on, fox 2.0 suspension along with a KN air filter and killer tune bumping torque up to 375 lb ft and HP to 315, now this truck really kicks ass. Add in the Rigid indutries off road driving lights and the Ford Raptor wheels and tires that are included in this pack and it's good value, throw in the fact you have factory warranty on the Ford Performance tune. All said, equipped this way and it's a good alternative to the Tremor pkg., super pleased with this truck. Agree, nice to have a crew cab truck that fits in my driveway.
This was the inspiration behind my factory order.
After 3 months of waiting I finally made that dream a reality. Been a great first week. Still get excited every time I walk up to it.

I bought the 2022 lariat FX4 black with the blackout. It has a rear locking diff and the screen changes colors. I think it’s bigger then 8” also. Immediately did a 2” lift on the front, much larger tires with a wider offset wheel. Used really nice cheep and simple mud flaps to protect the paint because the tires are about 1’ wider then the truck. The results where amazing. The truck rides and drives so much better. Way way more stable when turning. I absolutely love the soft 4x4 ride opposed to being beaten up. It’s pleasant and fun to drive. The cabin is a nice place to be and the truck is effortlessly quick. I average 18 mpg and can get 22 MPG on the highway if it’s not to windy. I’m at 1,000 miles and still don’t have a complaint other then maybe bumper steps to get in the back would have been nice. But you know it looks nice the way it’s set up so maybe I’ll let that one go. The Tacoma is old, less power and with the funny seating position my wife is not comfortable driving it. The Toyota also has a much rougher ride seeing it’s more focused on off-road use. So if your a logger you should definitely buy the Toyota. I have issues with the looks of the Chevy/GMC offering but it’s really build quality issues that knocked that one out. I expect the ranger to still be in service when they are all gone. It’s good to feel that way about your truck.
Gateway truck? I don’t know, maybe. Personally I could have bought any truck on the market. Why the midsize.. I’m not a big guy and feel like a idiot climbing out of a giant truck. My wife is tiny and feels more comfortable with the smaller size. The ranger replaced my midsize SUV. I live in a city so parking a full size truck is difficult. That’s way more towing then I’ll ever use. And you guessed it. It fits in my garage. You have a good and fair review. Oh, and the Nissan was out because Nissan builds junk. The Jeep is a fine truck just expensive, off-road focused and gets poor mileage. I’d have one if I lived on a mountain in Colorado for sure.
I got a 2019 super cab model with the fx4 package and chrome package and I love it couldn't be happier with it

I purchased a 2020 Ranger XLT. The truck fulfills every job I need plus I get 19.4 MPG combined. I’m retired so I may go to the Maverick in 3 years, but a Ranger Raptor is intriguing.
The Ranger got my attention as it is the only truck in North America that can easily be converted to a tray bed in the back. Back in Aussie a lot of Rangers ride around with trays. It is way more practical with a tray.

The entire back window in my 4 runner from 15 years ago opened with a switch. I used to have it open the majority of the time and I loved that feature. No idea why more trucks don’t do that.

I got a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat mine is red with tons of chrome. I love it. The steering you just put your hands on the wheel and the pickup does everything else. 0 to 60 in nothing flat. I love messing with someone in a Ford F150. In my second childhood. I am 71 years old. So far I haven't seen many of them around the area I live. Which is Iowa. This truck is the best!
i think they’re growing a bit here. i just moved to iowa, specifically manchester and so far i see the same four rangers around here. maybe it’s just area based but i’m saving up for one myself.

Yea its a trade off, you can try a rigdeline or a GMC Canyon for a midsize luxury truck. But ford, chevy, toyota are all pick up trucks for DIY and or people that just love trucks as a daily driver. Hardly any bells and whistles
**The Ranger with the Fx4 package does have a electronic rear differential locker** and also most trucks and suvs do Not have a front Differential locker, only extreme off road packages offer that just to be clear. This guy is acting like every truck has that.

TFL has compared the Ranger to the others off-road a few times now and it tends to do very well especially compared to the Tacoma and Colorado

Might wanna watch some of these off road tests on youtube. This thing is on par with Tacoma TRD off road. I've seen videos of it off roading in the snow with jeeps. Was it as drama free as the jeeps? No, but I've seen some impressive off road videos with this thing and it's version of crawl control.
My budget won't let me get the STAGE 2 PACK ,BUT THE FX4 PACKAGE'S SHOCK'S I'D SWAP OUT for either FOX 2.0 or BILSTEIN'S for a MORE CONTROLLED RIDE and LESS BOUNCE. THERE'S NO RUSH THOUGH FOR NOW THE RIDE'S FINE.
I've been looking at these for a while (plan to buy this year to replace my 06 Explorer). The suspension (and overall size) reminds me of the early-mid '90s F150s and the inside reminds me of the '17 Edge my granddad has. My only 2 complaints as somebody looking to buy one are A I wish they made a single cab with a slightly longer bed and B I wish the Tremor package was available on the supercab/extended cab (or at least make the factory auxillery switches available on the Fx4).

I bought a Lariat; I wanted better gas mileage (previously had Tundra) and the engine is very zippy. I really like it EXCEPT- there is very little storage space in the front for your stuff; phone, chapstick, hat, gloves, extra jacket, etc. The little box on the dash would be ok if it had a little rubber liner to keep your phone in place. Otherwise, great truck.
2021 XLT Ranger Sport 4×4 has a rear locking differential, the button is left front of the shifter.

Yeah they are nice, it’s too bad the front LEDs are only on the Lariat. They really make a difference in the look of the front end of this truck.
I don't think the Ranger is a gateway to the F150. Some people just want a smaller truck because they don't have big towing demands, want to park in a garage and have easier parking. Also price is a factor between the two especially in Lariat trim.
Jus FYI. The 2021 Ranger radio LED is white, because the headlight switch is off. But, if switch for headlights on or on auto. The LED, turns to blue. 🙂
you can change the screen background in settings, at least to a dark blue for the night mode, and maybe even black

I love my new Ranger - FX4 and tow package XLT. I use a Tekonsha Bluetooth trailer brake and I agree, trailer brakes would have been nice. I love the truck. The interior is roomy enough for me (6'1") and there is enough room for the cowboy hat I'm gonna get myself!
We have 2 litter Diesel ,230HP and 500 Torque with 10 speed Transmission .And lucking def with auto parking here in Malaysia.

EXCELLENT REVIEW. I AGREE the RANGER is THE GATEWAY(baby F-150 ) PICK-UP. I like it for it's SIZE and CAPABILITY as well as the motor. 270 hp is DECENT for this size truck, 310 pound per feet of torque is STOUT ENOUGH for me. THE FORD RANGER will be MY NEXT VEHICLE. As an OPTION THOUGH, FORD MAKES A 3 LEVEL (off road) PACKAGE THAT ADDS more HORSEPOWER and TORQUE. For ME, the STANDARD MOTOR is GOOD ENOUGH.
Same 2.3 ltr is in the Focus RS, 100hp less output in the Ranger. Great engine. So there's room for improvements. Have at it!

As a Canadian who lives in Australia I can tell you that this interior is pretty basic even for here. The Ranger is pretty much the go to “Ute” (as they say here) for all tradies. It’s a workers truck hence the basic interior. People here just don’t buy trucks to be cool and drive around and pick up kids. It’s a pretty big cultural difference to North America. They are work vehicles and kind of treated that way. Like you said, due to costs etc Australia is about 20 years behind North America when it comes to trucks. In the last two years I’ve finally started to see a lot of Dodge Ram 1500’s which has been good to see.

Calling a crew cab truck suspension soft... it handles way better compared to my 2011. The ranger and the Colorado both out handle it lol! It's not a sedan but either truck I felt fine going 80-90mph in
I didn't care for the rear window as it's to small in my opinion. Also auto window control for all windows at the driver's door should be... the crash bars to the front tires are a huge killer for up sizing. I have the FX4 and it's great but like all things...lots of areas to improve on.
I believe there is a setting to change the background theme color of your AV screen.
I like the instrument gauges in XLT better than Lariat.
YEA the RANGER is/may be the gateway to the f-150. A MOONROOF would be NICE, and maybe a HEATED STEERING WHEEL TOO. It RIDES NICE but, FORD MAKES YOU PAY for SOME FEATURES (I wanted HEATED SIDE MIRRORS) are they available on the XLT's?
That’s true , in the US people are spoiled with cars and trucks I been to other countries and a early 2000s truck will do for family trips and work and it’s not luxurious but gets the job done . That’s all people care about in other countries as long as it runs and family fits even if it’s a tight fit .

Mike great vlog here. I personally would not buy the Ranger but would you?? Also I think for the extra money you can get a really good deal on a F-150 way better truck!! Mike don't review the Toyota Tacoma nice truck better built than the Ford but gutless no power all it has for it is the looks and build quality Toyota is known for that. The truck to wait for is the new Nissan Frontier you will have to review that one for sure because I think that it will be the truck to beat in that segment. A V6 under the hood and just the looks, it looks mean and say put me to work and the quality that Nissan puts is just as good as Toyota maybe even better. Why not review the Ram TRX or high end Benz or BMW I bet people would like to see something exciting than something really boring. Get the FX4 package and you will get a locking differential dude! Also there is a setting to put the infotainment screen to night mode, just like every other system out there. Really???
I actually think turbo four has to work harder if you push it than V6. So fuel economy is not that different. Four cylinder turbos are generally only good in EPA tests not in real world.
well my gets 7-10L per 100k my 3.5 f150 got 15-24L per 100k ranger is wayy better for fuel economy and definitely better offroad

yea, i can see the ranger being called the 'GATEWAY TRUCK.' I like the interior for what this mid-size truck is, it could do with some changes. The ARM-REST could BE LONGER or EXTEND like the HONDA CRV'S. The EXPRESS-DOWN on THE WINDOWS could AT LEAST BE FOR DRIVER and FRONT PASSENGER. And, a POWER MOONROOF? BUT, I'M HAPPY WITH MY RANGER FX4.
I'm from Australia and I thought the Lariat was the top of the range?... I have the Wildtrak which is the top of the range and my ranger is way more luxury built.. and it has everything including a black head lining and grab handles on both sides.... and my Ranger has done more miles off road than on and has never let me down... sorry but North America missed out on all the best stuff.

Ya my 2020 is blah inside, I hate the console, wish they would of not gave a handle parking break, would of rather had a electronic button and a bigger/more cup holders and storage/arm rest. And I have the Lariat trim too and I think it should really be full LCD screen in the gauge cluster. How they have that set up is backwards. And with the buttons on the heating wish they were not flush with the housing, bc sometimes the fingers just slip by and not engage. Sync 3 though is very nice. The seats and steering wheel are comfortable. Wish the top of the door where our arms go was actually squishy non plastic, that is annoying. My FX4 package is nice. Wish the bed would just be 2 ft longer, but I get it. But overall these aren’t deal breakers it is a great truck. I just think my next one will be a used 2021 F150. Unless the rumors are true that the 2022 Rangers are going to be revamped big time inside and out. Look more like the f150s in the front and a total overhaul in the interior. Might even have a option for the 2.7 eco boost

I prefer a Ford Ranger over a Ford F150 are listed here.
1. I'm a smaller frame guy (5 1/2 feet tall, est 160lbs) so a F150 feels too big for my size personally.
2. 7,500lbs of towing/hualing is more then enough for me and my Solo Mowing Business, and all my mowing equipments are not that big or heavy.
3. I feel like a Ranger is more Family Friendly then an F150, it's easier for younger kids to get in and out.
4. To me, it's easier to drive around town and cities with out being bulky on crowded streets.
5. More MPG
6. Cheaper price tag.

Every truck should have a tailgate dampener, but at least, you can order it for about $50.
I personally don't really see a purpose for tailgate dampeners to exist, not hard to just not slam the tailgate open XD

@@66skate If the kid isn't smart enough to dampen it at least a little, they probably shouldn't be messing around with the tailgate in the first place. Maybe it's just my area, but I don't know anyone that's gonna just let a tailgate fall down and expect it to stop smoothly.
Ranger is a serious off-roader like the Tacoma. Look up overlanders in Australia and Europe where this truck has been on sale for years. American after market makers are already chock full of serious off-road gear for it. The same is not true for the Chevy and Dodge no longer has a trail sized truck.

I CHOSE the LARIAT because it comes with HEATED SIDE MIRRORS (not available on XL,or XLT.) It's a SHAME NO MOONROOF or FULLTIME AWD IS AVAILABLE ...YET.
