I just spent like a whole hour on hi-hats and came up with a unique and sophisticated pattern that am really proud of, only to erase it and start from scratch because I can tell that the pattern is really cluttering the beat specially with the busy/melodic 808's I have, i remember you once said we get attached to our idea because of how much time we've put into it while it's clearly harming the beat, I couldn't agree more, thanks navie for giving us these gems 🖤
That's awesome that you were able to identify the problem and make that decisions, as hard as it probably was. Kudos to you, it takes a lot of discipline to delete.
Instead of just deleting the whole thing entirely, you could probably save that small idea for a different beat in the future

I really like that you don’t follow the concept of „how to make melodies like....“ or „I made the best beat ever“ with a picture of you with faked emotions in the thumbnail, but instead focus on single techniques you like to Introduce or simply just problem solving.

The most important thing I’ve learned from you is that less is more. I realised that a beat I composed yesterday was sounding too cluttered so I chucked the atmosphere and reverb for a simple beat. I'm a hugeee sucker for percussion loops. I spent most of my internet time collecting them. Cymatics makes the best perc loops IMO. Looperman is good too
Oh yeah, it's something that I overlooked for quite some time. But it's such a good way to bring an interesting rhythm into your beat
Yo Nick Mira has some decent perc loops, you might wanna check his stuff out :)
Easy to make yourself with FPC & creative delays. Then print the audio & manipulate it further.

Your channel is the best man. Appreciate you big league. Would love if you did a vid on your approach to getting the full drum kit leveled out and equal and high in the mix without clipping or muting other sounds.
Like using drum buss compression to make it all glue together.
I’m coming from heavy metal so all the more unique drum kits for trap type beats has me a bit confused

@@NavieD Cheers! Been enjoying your videos. Been sampling my son's toy instruments recently. Toy piano, wind up music boxes, mini guitars, etc. Slightly atonal, tinky tonky stuff. Resampled and played on the midi keyboard with effects added, they can sound pretty cool/ unique.

After 3 year's of making beats I learned yesterday unorthodox perc sounds and loops add so much more to the beat plus hi hats get boring pretty quick
For sure, you can easily introduce so many more unique textures and rhythms into your beat by using things other than hi hats

Bought Omnisphere last week. The presets are so amazing that I went back to clutter, overrunning my CPU with 4-6 Omnisphere channels

In your course, do we also learn sample details such as sampling a song that is in 3/4 and making it a 4/4? could also make a cool video since there isnt rly an indepth tutorial on that on yt
As of right now, the course is aimed towards teaching principles than just throwing examples and scenarios at you. I do plan on building more as time goes on

All of the ones I got there are from Splice. I just looked up percussion loops, took an hour or two to scroll through ones that I liked, downloaded, and then cancelled membership haha

Honestly if you're just starting, I always recommend people buy Xpand instead. It's a great plugin, and far less expensive.
Free ones i use most often: spitfire LABS, Podolski, Lota mini

@@DJVilLe Lenovo think pad linked to a Focusrite USB interface. I got two sterling monitors and akg mic hooked up to that
@@demolowalton6772 thats a good setup. I would also consider getting headphones for mixing (for example audio technica ath 50). Its easier to mix with both monitors and headphones and its good to have multiple sources to check if the mix is good.
