  • 4 Functions of Cortisol!
    1️⃣ Protein Catabolism
2️⃣ Gluconeogenesis (amino acids to carbohydrates)
    3️⃣ Lipolysis
    4️⃣ Immunosuppression (glucose dependent pathway)
Cortisol is a Stress Hormone produced in the adrenal gland
Cortisol helps to maintain blood glucose levels
Cortisol decreases (inhibits) functions that are non essential (stimulates sympathetic, inhibits parasympathetic)
Acute increases in cortisol are part of the remodeling process in muscle tissue, however chronic high concentrations could have negative effects for homeostasis

Great video and interesting point about immune system suppression during physical or mental stress. I'd noticed that I caught colds more easily when doing more strenuous exercise and now that makes more sense.

I always have a bottle of HMB (& Glutamine) on my shelf, for over 20 years now, right next to my Ibuprofen.

Great session on cortisol...I had 1 question I had a low b12 2 years back ..now after taking injections and meganeuron I have improved a lot 90 percent I am fine....but still have anxiety related to negative thoughts ...my b12 is 507 now previously 2 years back it was 50 ......I haven't checked seretonin or cortisol test ...do you think these 2 can also be the reason for anxiety ....if you get time please reply thanks 🙏

We can't convert pyruvate into acetyl-CoA without retinol. So cortisol must either maintain blood retinol level next to blood sugar.
Immune system is one of the biggest retinol consumer. So is heating (but white tissues are insulator and they collect retinol and send back)...
Stress is a situation when brain need more energy. It's rather about brain energy supply.
Running away from bear is about adrenalin and not cortisol.
And according to properties vitamin D and cortisol are opposite hormones.

Hello there. Thanks for you video. I’m trying to understand how glucose in the blood(thanks to cortisol) can turn into fuel if it cannot enter the cells (due to lack of insulin, as antagonistic hormones). Thanks in advance.

A question: "immune system is a glucose dependent pathway system.", in absence of carbs and direct glucose system in the diet, how well does the immune system still efficiently function?

Gluconeogenesis (making glucose from other substances) allows you to make glucose even without dietary glucose intake.

My wife is constantly in pain and thus constantly under stress. She thinks that all the cortisol getting released is turning into fat and sitting right in her middle. Any way that's possible or is she way off-base?

Does having someone pointing their hand in your face increase cortisol levels. What about waving their hands in your face over and over. When people watch videos from their phone or tablet a foot from their face and the person they are watching is constantly doing hand gestures, if is like they are doing it right in their face. Would just watching a video raise cortisol levels to unhealthy amounts?

So you're saying it breaks down muscle and makes you fat? And you get high levels when you are stressed out. All you had to say bro.
