2015 V6 Coupe, 55k miles, used as my daily for the past three years, not a single issue, so gets my vote for reliability. Serviced annually, new rear tyres every 25k miles, and one top up with premium fuel about once a month (ie when I remember!) to clean the engine, other than that, it looks after itself. Love it to bits!!!
Enjoy the 450, it should be an amazing car! Short answer on fuel is it depends where you are based, as there are different fuel measuring systems!
Let's start with Jaguar’s official statement, to “Use high quality fuel with detergent that meets the specification defined by EN228, WWFC5 cat. 5 or the national equivalent. Low quality fuel can damage the engine and reduce engine performance” … looking that little lot up, the EN228 standard specifies 95 RON, and WWFC5 category 5 includes 95 and 98 RON.
So, here in the UK, where we label fuel using the RON system, we have Standard 95 RON and Super / Premium 97 RON, so we can happily use either … as we suffer sub-zero (Centigrade/Celsius) temperatures (it is January!!) and pay an average of £1.50 a litre for petrol, while we look forwards to warmer drier motoring in the spring!
Meanwhile the USA uses the AKI (R+M)/2 measurement system, where 95 RON is about 91, so the way I read it, US friends will want to stick to premium fuel labelled as 91 or higher where they can … as they enjoy temperatures measured in Fahrenheit, and pay almost half what we pay for gasoline at an average of 3.35 US$ per Gallon.

I’ve had my 2014 V6 S convertible for going on 5 years now. I’ve had only 1 “problem” and zero reliability issues. Albeit the problem was significant (coolant pipes burst… but the shop was literally a block away, so all good). Otherwise, only regular maintenance and new tires… awesome car.

Have a 2017 f type R in British racing green. Just got it used from JLR out of Michigan sight unseen off of Carfax, 17k on the Odometer. Drove it a few times what a thrill and fun ride. It goes in the garage for the winter. In New York State. Its my dream car. So comes out on sunny warm days. Keep it on a good battery maintainer. Not one regret its a work of art in every way. Its not a daily driver for me I will leave that for my Mazda cx5. Ill never get a battery toy car.

Thanks for another great video, Mark. I love my 2017 F-type R, and I consider it at least as well built and reliable as any of my other cars. Waay back before Ford acquired Jaguar, they were crap. Ford changed that, but so many uninformed people continue to assume the reputation from 30 years ago still stands.
One item you didn’t mention is the glorious crackles and pops this car makes when you back off the throttle are so forceful they can potentially shatter the catalytic converters. Jaguar modified later versions of the firmware to tone down the exhaust theatrics to avoid that potential problem. I won’t let them update mine. I’ll take my chances, rather than muffle the god of thunder.

I have 2014 V6 F-Type (40K miles). Only issue so far was replacing O2 sensors. Just changed the diff fluids. So far so good. We really love the car.

Mark thanks for the reliability video. I appreciate all your information on the R. I do plan on getting one and probably a low miles 2018 -19 as I understand they have improved plastics over earlier models with the coolant fittings. I had some issues with that kind of thing with a BMW I had which I was able to repair myself.
Glad to help. I have notice thought that many of the coolant fittings are better than BMW and MERC as those have the silky locking plastic ends while these have a more conventional setup.
There is a metal replacement part for the pipe that usually goes wrong
@@cadilluck Are you talking about the coolant fittings under the supercharger? Not an easy fix removing the blower to fix it but yes I have heard about some of the fittings being metal aftermarket offerings.
My favourite vehicle ever has been a
1986 Land Rover 90 with the 2.5 n/a diesel, none turbo, no frills absolutely basic vehicle! Oh, it had a hardtop with no windows fitted but I did add Power Steering.
It had 85000 km when I got it (52816 miles)
and I sold it at 92500 miles. I called him Maximus since it was an ex mod vehicle and he ran perfectly and NEVER broke down.
He wasn't a toad only vehicle, I did a hell of a lot of extreme off roading, yes even here in darkest deep Yorkshire, uk it still exists if you know where your going.
My point is, if you fall in love with a vehicle, it doesn't matter what folk think and any pit falls you don't care about because it's your baby!

I know it's not a f-type, but I own a 2018 XE 35T r-sport, and have since upgraded the air intake pipe and filters, lower and upper pulleys, changed out the original cats with sport cat down pipes from Fabspeed, and tuned it through VelocityAP and this machine is outstanding. A truly visceral and dynamic driving experience that sets Jag apart from the 3-series, 5-series, boxster s, c43, audi s4 that I have owned. F-type will definitely be in my future. Great videos. Awesome! Sounds like a real nice set of updates and I have been thinking about similar for the F Type. I do believe these cars are highly underrated.
150k miles on my 2014 6 cylinder convertible. At 90k miles had leaks in all my water hoses. Before that had a couple bad oxygen sensors and one vacuum leak in a cracked hose. I would say it’s a reliable car. Lots of freeway miles in Los Angeles area.
150000 miles is solid either way and a few coolant hoses can be a pain but a relatively minor issue.
Hi Mark, I was in the market for getting a sport car and was looking at a Corvette which I’ve had in the past but the Jag sounded so great and I was on the fence about it. Listening to your blogs convince me that I made a good solid choice. I love getting in the car taking my time starting it up and hearing that engine rev. And as you say I do look back on my car when I go into a store just to get that extra look. Thanks again and keep up the blogging.

Hey Mark. I just recently sold my 2013 V6S with 48k miles. Had it 3 years and covered 13k miles. Simply the most fun car I've ever had, but sold it as I was sick of getting a big bill every 6 months. Suspect a lot of the issues were down to it being one of the first cars built and thinking of getting a newer one, but not sure I can bring myself to do so, been financially scarred. So technically, mine was reliable, never broke down, but the quality was terrible. I'm sure I've ranted about this on your channel before, but during my ownership (just 13k miles) it had a new supercharger, water pump, multiple cooling pipes, two O2 sensors, rear subframe bushes replaced, steering wheel buttons replaced, unseized exhaust valves, refurbished the subframe braces, rear camera was always foggy.... I'm,, sure there's much more. I also know the rear diff had a small leak, the door handle was making a terrible noise when cold. Annual servicing was also grating when only doing 4k miles a year. Would love another, but then I read about headlight DRL failures on the 2017 onwards at £3k a pop. Maybe the 2020 cars are better. Such a gamble... Supra with 10 year warranty is appealing.
Hey trinityct11. I live my f type. I would have no prob with another. If I sold. I am so sorry all you have done to yours. But in 40 years of buying autos. I have my favorite brands. And even with that every now and then I get one that I have so much grap going on with it. As a new vehicle that it amazes me. And when I do out the door it goes. Because it is one that no matter what it will always be bad. Your could have been the one that it was born to give probs. And the other way around I have gotten the same make and unreal the service I had with it. I headed to let it go. Like people. Don’t judge all people by one person. We all have our own personality’s. And auto are the same way. If you by talk to it. It will talk back. But how it does will tell you do or don’t. My you always have a blessed ride.
Wow, that does sound like you really experienced the Monday car. Sad to hear. With that, I can’t necessarily suggest taking the dive again, but I know there are many very happy owners and a very unhappy ones with varying degrees of experiences. I have had my car for about 3 years now and still loving it so it sounds really hit and miss. I know what you mean with the Supra, I was scoping one of the new GR units and it potentially comes in a stick now so that is a great option(. With the caveat of a BMW engine). The new Corvettes are intriguing and now the Z06 and a Bubrid model just announced means there are some very cool rides available.
Older clutches are an issue. I think they are up to a “gen 4’. My 2017 is fine so far. Also with the coolant front pipe, many replace more items such as the water pump, expansion tank,…, too. I believe the O2 sensors have a longer warranty, at least in the US.
My alternator did die while I was going from New York to visit my brother in Boston. Not only did AAA come within 45 minutes and I was able to pull off the highway in time, but also the Fairfield jaguar dealership was a mile or two away. Finally the dealer was a mile from the Metro North station, so I could easily get back to Brooklyn while they repaired the car, and of course, go back up to Connecticut easily. My car was very considerate where it broke down.
Haha, as long as they make it convenient. It seems my BMWs weren’t quite as nice on ocassion. There are some things go, and I wonder how much is due to li g sitting time. Weak batteries can influence electrical gremlins and fluids not regularly moving can cause troubles. I k ow many people minimize the use and miles on their cars. Just a thought ….
I mean the coolent pipe, water pump and expansion tank and o2 sensors are anual 70k to 100k tune up that you don't have to worry about.
I think he's right. My 500kmi accord has lights on but it's a runner!! Srs doesn't hurt anything check engine light is a suggestion when it's straight piped.
Just run it till there is nothing left. Thats how I am going with my old 2003 Ram

Unfortunately the 3.0 v6 was the first engine to be produced by the then new factory in Wolverhampton, and as it was their first engine they had to recall pretty much every one produced in the first couple years. Be default this meant pretty much all the first f types produced also had to be recalled. Thankfully they ironed out all the problems on the factory line and I haven’t heard any similar complaints from the outstanding 2.0 i4 or 3.0 i6
Thanks for sharing, and yes you are right, its usually the way by many car brands and the first couple of years is always a bit of a risk as there are always a few bug to work out. Its at a point now though that the cars are more or less in line with most other LUXURY brands for reliability, however these are much nicer cars that most opposition.
My 2015 S is my daily driver with 120,000 km. I love it but it has required some maintenance: Leaking pinion seal (replaced it), slightly weeping water pump (replaced it), steering wheel buttons (the connectors got corroded somehow), and replacing the air conditioning compressor tomorrow. It would be nice if none of these issues arose, of course, but to me it’s like your beautiful wife has a cold. You’ll still love her and she’ll get over it and still be beautiful. I take care of these things asap before they develop into something that would leave the car on the side of the road. It hasn’t left me on the side of the road, so I guess by definition it’s quite reliable.
Honestly, most of these issues just sound like common problems that occur as a car ages. There's nothing like chronic valve failure or constant gasket blows. Pretty much everything you listed could be caught with routine maintenance. Its wear and tear fixes.

Had a viper before and now have 2016 F type R. Night and day difference. Can drive it easy or unleash the beast. Creature comforts are also great.

Ive owned 4 Jags and the problems I have had once the mileage gets up there are the same for ALL cars made in Europe or US. The plastic cooling parts rot. Electronic sensors fail. Ive not owned a Toyota or Honda so I cant say I have firsthand experience to see the difference, but I know I wouldn’t enjoy the driving experience as much as I do in my Jag XFR.

A lot of these issues were addressed in the 2018 mondel and newer. Such as the air vent gears, hood vents, and exhaust valves.
The first thing you need for a reliable car is a good engine and then the Transmission, the 5.0 V8 with the ZF box is up there with the best.
Sure the F Type has some day to day issues but you can't drive a Honda Accord like an F type but you can drive the F Type like an Accord and I bet you it would last a lot longer and definitely give you more thrills whilst doing so.

Unfortunately, my 2016 R has had more issues than I can even imagine. Coolant leaks, oil leaks, drivetrain grease leak, vacuum seal leaks, front left and right strut bars needed to be replaced, fuse box melted and shorted out the battery and fried it. And I've only had the car for about 2 months. The car has about 50K miles. Everything is fixed now, but pretty worried about what will happen in the future.

Had mine 5 years no real problems apart from the odd niggles, Vent stopped working but put itself right, window scratches that were done under warranty and touch screen stopped working that was sorted by a simple reboot disconnecting the boot (trunk) battery.
Haha, you bet, I truly love my car, glitched and all. Complicated, yet simple, fast, yet comfortable, above all, nothing like it without spending 1/2 mil.
Still one of my al -time favorite cars, of all the modern ones.

I have had 2 F-Types. Both 2014 V6S Roadsters. First one did have an issue w the engine. Jag fixed it. I cant remember the issue. My current one has only had one issue. Bad O2 sensors. Fixed for around $500. Dont go to the dealer, they rip you off. For the most part ALL of my cars had issues from time to time.
On the other hand I cant bring myself to buy a LR Defender. Too expensive to buy and fix. I'm nervous about that.

Thanks for the reliability video Mark, it covers all the things I've read over the past weeks and hearing it from an actual owner who's got one with almost 60K on the clock adds more validation over just hearing it from people who haven't even hit 20K. Your car is driven, it gets plenty of use, and yet there are no surprises at all in this video - that's incredible and makes me feel less insane for spending the money to have a loaded 2016 V8R shipped to my city for me to test drive and potentially buy in just under 2 weeks.

Definitely will do. I fully agree with the idea of enjoying driving an amazing car and not just keeping it as a garage ornament. My late uncle had a 2007 Shelby GT that he drove daily until he sold it to my dad, then my dad daily drove it until he retired and when it comes to me, I intend to drive it plenty as well. That's why I was happy to find the F-Type that I did - it had two accidents within the first year it was on the road, but the miles since tell me it was repaired right and that the blemish on the history just makes it a better deal for someone who is more concerned with getting a great vehicle and is less concerned with eventual resale value. If I like it, I'll keep it for many years.
@@markholubetz Love the look of it even more in-person and every petrolhead that I know loves it, but there's already been a catch. I live in a condo in a rich neighborhood that is primarily an older community, so at 38 I'm the youngster... My condo is next to luxury apartments and a very pricey 55+ community as well... A couple neighbors love it, but there have already been noise complaints due to the volume of the cold start and there have been threats to file a report with the police to have it sound tested due to noise ordinances, which it will definitely fail due to the ritzy neighborhood wanting everything dead quiet... Some people just can't let others have nice things, so I'll regretfully comply and let them hear it's song on the way out... Fortunately I won't be losing much money over this, the dealer is taking it back and refunding everything short of the administrative fees, so hopefully I can find another in the same color combo in a couple of years, after I move out of this condo and buy a proper house. She was a beauty for the short time I got to have her... dark sapphire with the black pack and carbon blade wheels... the right mix of beautiful and aggressive, that extremely addictive exhaust note (I think I only used the radio for a total of 10 minutes since I bought it)... I'm sad to see it go...
These are beautiful cars but Jaguar's are expensive machines to maintain and for those for a true passion for the brand and it's beauty.
You have to be an older gent (like me!) to appreciate it.
Even today, with Jaguars future uncertain, I'd still love to own an XJS.
For sure the XJS is a great car as are most of the unique cars in the marque. It may be a sad day looking back remembering what we USED to drive. Thanks for watching

Fuel injection, supercharger isolator coupler and water pipe, especially the Y pipe. Just spent 6000.00 to repair SOME of these and has the car in the shop for 2 months. I wouldn’t. Buy it again.
I have one and love it here in England, I keep the battery on a trickle charger , my car did have a sensor failure and also the switch pack on one side of the steering wheel failed , just done a 2000 mile trip across Europe absolutely loved it , mine also has a fixed spoiler which I think gives it more curb appeal

I have a 2016 F-Type R. Just crossed over the 50K mark. Best car I ever had, driving and reliability. The only issue I have had is the O2 sensor. Had to replace one of those. I did have a very strange stretch last fall where I had to replace 3 tires do to picking up nails. Actually the first puncture was not a nail. I ran over a Yeti 16oz cup. They found the bottom of the cup, folded in half, inside the tire. Left a two inch slash in the tire. That was the car's first and only tow. Oh yeah, the flat tire kit that comes with the F-Type will not seal a two inch slash in the tire.

Sounds like some strange luck but overall a solid ownership experience. I agree, I have seen these cars as or more reliable than many BMW, Audi and Benz peers
Have a 2018 V6S with 37,000 miles on it which I daily drive. Only issue so far was an oxygen sensor which overheated and caused the check engine light to come on. This got fixed by the main dealer for £360 (about $450). Other than that, I run OBD diagnostics on the car regularly and I haven't got any error codes. My overall experience with reliability is very positive, especially compared to German cars I have owned. The satnav is a bit stupid though - it once sent me on a 4 hour journey across Ireland that I probably could have done in 2 if I'd used my phone satnav.
Haha, I agree the navigation is a flop and a bit old school but the rest of the car is so good, it just does not matter to me.
I put in a carplay unit for abotu 400 dollars and it took the place of the nav int he car...wireless too. Now have multiple nav options off the iphone...best option as traffic, weather, and even "voice commands" now work and are updated by apple and that ecosystem....not JLR. Best mod I've made.
Going to see (and hopefully purchase) a 2015 F-TYPE R with low miles tomorrow evening. I've been on the fence, but this video is helping me feel more positive about the choice. Just can't get over how good these look and sound.

You should, for the fun of it, compare your F-type with the XK from before, since they both have the same chasis, see if there are any similarities and if the F-type was an evolution to the XK or a whole different animal.

Had my 2014 F Type R V8 for 6 years now and not had a SINGLE issue. 25k miles covered. I'll be selling in 2 months time if anyone is interested. Grey, alcantara, carbon fibre kit extras. UK based

I think a lot of the time peoples’ perception around reliability are often skewed by unrealistic expectations as well. All cars will have issues.
JayEmm did a great video today talking about the vehicles planned for the next few years from Jaguar, as well as Jag's viability as an ongoing manufacturer.

I think there are owners that are not flustered by a failure and an expensive repair. So an expensive luxury or sports car is not going to disappoint them. But I think there are a lot of owners who are greatly bothered by a failure and an expensive repair bill. And a couple of these failure events will cause them to freak out and lose interest in their expensive car.
I see the same thing happen in luxury homes. Some people have the money to buy an expensive luxury home, but they are totally unprepared for the expensive upkeep. When the big repair bills started hitting their wallet, they are looking for a way out from the game. People need to do their homework and go into these major purchases with both eyes wide open.

My Lexus LC 500 has no issues and will last 10 years no problem and is a gorgeous car in my opinion . 5.0 glorious n/a engine that has ported and direct injection so no intake valve oil migration ever !!!

You will get bored by the power ..all na engine owners..with turbo 30l or 50l now when you get bored of their power you go stage 2 and you have a different car with 150hp or 200hp plus..with na no chance not even near to that..
I have a 2016 F type R and it's been way more reliable then my M4, M5, C63, ferrari California, audi S8 and many other cars I've had. Mine has 134,000 Miles yes MILES! I just did a 4k service for valve cover gaskets, alternator and ALL new fluids, tranny,diff,coolant, Everything And now i'm probably only gonna have to do oil changes for another 40k miles. I'll probably keep it till it hits atleast 200k miles, By then it will only be worth 20 grand so there won't be any point to sell it, so I'll probably drive it into the ground.
That's awesome - I'm at 75k on my 2015 R, and it's been more reliable than any of my S4s, my S5, and the RS5 that I traded for it. Don't even get me started on my E92 M3! As you know, DIY maintenance is extremely simple, and aside from the coolant pipes I haven't had any major issues.
Resale value is awful because of Jaguar's horrible reputation, of course, but the F-Type R is truly one of the best sports car bargains on the market.
Hello! Mark...Just purchased a 2017 F-Type "S" 19" wheels and would like some recommendations for front and rear tires...go with the factory issue or increase size. No track just weekend North Carolina country road "touring."
Hi Michael I have heard of people using different tire options, some of which may may work better in snow or heavy rain but your area is decent most times of the year so I would likely stick with the Pirellis. I likely also would go stock size as well but if you want larger than a wider set of rims are needed with a slightly different offset. For mine I kept it simple and I put a set of spacer “adapters” on stock wheels and tires as I like them better than most aftermarket options. The spacer makes the stance look a little more squared off and fuller in the fenders. Some say the wheel bearings may take a hit but I am not sure there is enough of any impact to that to worry about. I am not. Good luck on the car, should be a ton of fun.

I personally like the glass as it gives it a nice contrasting look from outside yet gives that brightness from inside.
Im coming out of a 2018 911. Looking at a new F type R. They are giving great discounts on new F types here in the US ( $25k off msrp ) I just might have to pull the trigger. The car looks way better in person than on video or pics, sooo classy..

@@markholubetz I purchased my 911 new, drove it for 14K miles and sold it at a big profit, the market made me do it. I test drove a new GT3 and was kind of underwhelmed especially for the price. I need something different. The FtR is just stunning in person, especially for the price.
Absolutely agree on the F Type R. I am loving mine and even with its quirks it’s a very cool car in every way.

If this statement is even half true, some clear evidence that the US and CND markets for this car new are VERY different. Discounts here in Canada on 2024s are pretty much non-existent. To be honest, your statement seems to be an exaggeration. If that was at all true the dealers would be under water on the sale. Perhaps maybe on left over 2022s or 2023s, but even then…
Agree. I am putting metal coolant pipes on mine, a sc snout solid piece to prevent any issues, and put a new agm battery in it (and I drive it a lot)....superb car.
Maintenance is key. Did tranny, diffs, transfer case, oil myself, plugs were done by my mechanic. BG44k to prevent injectior issues...one bottle every 3m (overkill but I can afford it). Best car ever.
Subaru...had two engine blow up on a stock car.
996TT. Coolant pipes and leaking vacuum system.....and tranny went up....2nd gear fork is well known issue in the 996 TT (and probablyt he 997tt manual).
New 911's are VERY tech...engine mounts are issues...over 1k each to fix and you fix in pairs, etc. Dynamic engine mounts.
Bore scoring on scores of porsche cars now.
BMW engines....lots of them seem to self destruct. Some don't.
Mercedes....hugely complex. Off warrany repairs can total a car (a/c on a 300e was 5500 off warranty to change a condensor known to crack...etc.).
Jaguars are really great cars post 2010. Bosch electronics. Leer seats. TRW brakes. Big players make the sytems.....the design is amazing.
You are totally right. The old cars were questionable but anything In recent history is both solid and wonderful to admire and drive. Why buy an RS Audi when these cars exist. Hope you are having a great week.
Yet the Internet just won’t accept any of these endorsements. It’s the strangest thing, but it’s like people will just not let go of the past despite their modern cars being okay (Jag side, not LR). I know people with F-types and XEs and they have been great.
I don't have a F-type but just picked up my 4th Jag 2 months ago. My 1st was a 1983 xj6 that was a basket case but every once in a while it would show you how good it could be. The 2nd is a 1999 XJ VDP that was pretty neglected when I picked it up. I sorted it out over a couple months and then drove the heck out of it for 6 years (currently has 180K miles on it), with only the odd warning light from time to time. The only real problems it had were just little things that were more of a nuisance than anything else. My 2011 XJL is going strong so far only needing a wheel bearing (was bad when I bought it) and the 2017 F-pace just needs a battery as the original is not what it used to be.
All in all I love the brand, and because of the bad rep I feel they are under valued. As one that works on my own stuff I also find that many parts are carried over from other cars making some repairs pretty affordable i.e. rear wheel bearing on the '11 xj is a front bearing for a Honda Accord/Civic across a bunch of years.
I agree, there are such great deals on these cars as they are seriously undervalued. That’s a win for us
Jesus, he basically nitpicked issues every car has..ive had a ton of exotics and a f type. The nightmares were the m6, v8 esprit and db9 for me. F type was wonderful. Ferrari maserati DBS also never gave me any problems ever lotus elise exige evora are rock solid. Porsche had issues. F type was solid and one of the most enjoyable cars ive ever owned to drive, truly its shockingly fun to drive.
I do agree, these are great cars and I love my F Type R. All of these cars have nuances but are generally pretty reliable
What is a good mileage to buy these used ? I really want one but I don’t have the money to get an expensive one
I would try to get into one with less than 30 or 40,000 mikes so you can enjoy for a while before some of the bigger maintenance items hit.

I disagree. You can’t redefine the term “reliability” to mean loss of function of the vehicle to get you home. Reliability refers to the all designed functions, so if the door handle fails, it’s unreliable at its intended function. That is a failure. You might still get home (if you can get in), so not catastrophic…but it failed to meet its design intent over a reasonable period of time. And is unreliable in that aspect. If the vehicle as many of these…it becomes classified as Unreliable too.
@@wl660 thing is European car manufacturers fail at reliability with almost everything when compared to Toyotas. My family had both Japanese and European cars and the European cars always had issues. I mean everything from Peugot to Land Rover. I dont understand how some of these reliability scores are achieved when even simple door handles fail more often on European cars. Lets not get to the power trains because thats a whole different league and Japanese cars are miles ahead in terms of reliability. Its embarrasing really.

Hi Doug, really they are all great and can’t go wrong. With that said, the newest is usually the best due to mechanical and tech uodates. I personally needed to have awd but some people like the rwd animal in older models. I still prefer the last of the older generation so that’s what I would suggest, but maybe drive them and see.
I just love the F-type. Thinking about trading in my S5 for one.

Hi, not sure I showed the install but I did show the finished product when i did it. Easy hour on the driveway and so r UV rated sign vinyl and I was good to go.

Looked at buying one of thease ( in the uk)..I drive a Porsche cayman s. Which I love. Similar probs , sensors water pumps .. but like most cars no two cars are the same , no matter the make ..

For the battery issue, you can disconnect the negative terminal if you’re going to let the car sit. It’ll help it not drain.

Is there much difference in reliability berween the production years 2016-2020? When buying a used f type is it better for the car to have had no issue or replacement parts?
later years of a certain generation are almost always better with small things that they have ironed out since the first year. it might seem like a rip-off buying the last year of a certain gen/body style because you are only one model year from the new style. but they are usually the most reliable.

Good maintenance should keep them running a long time. Solid cars.
2014 Ftype cabrio, had it for 8k miles before sold for something bigger, had no problems except a small hose that corroded.
What did you replace it with ?

How often do u think I should give it a start.
Hi Ray, yes these cars are impeccable and little line them. As far as battery charging, I would suggest a quality trickle charger and forego random starts regularly as this creates acids within the engine and can actually lead to deterioration. The best thing ultimately is an oil service in the fall and leave the car for the winter and restart only once regularly driving again.

Go for it! I would say try a drive in one but I know Jeremy Clarkson is quite tall and fits in the cars so my thoughts are it would fit. I know the Dodge would be roomier but the F Type is a sportier more compact feel.

If the things that he talked about here scared you off then performance cars basically are not for you. This stuff is small potatoes in the grand scheme, and certainly relative to other scenarios that you could find yourself in with other vehicles. The message that Mark is trying to convey is that this car is a mature platform with predictable and known trouble spots that COULD crop up. The engine and the transmission are known quantities, and the “pain” points for the car are basically known. The car has basically been unchanged and refined from the beginning. This is the best case scenario for any mechanical device. Perhaps go get a Toyota Corolla GR…lol…In all seriousness, actually not a bad little car 😊
@@dlj1285 I own an early Porsche 997 and Ferrari 575 amongst other sports cars. I do all my own wrenching and am well familiar with "pain points". Every car , even Corolla's , have their weak spots. The question is , how many , how likely to occur and how expensive to fix. I research all these data points before I buy a car. Any car. The f-type seems to have a lot of "possible" failure points which raises the risk.
I guess the ultimate question is how much pain are you willing to risk in relation to how much pleasure that particular car will provide. The ratio works in favor of pleasure for Mark which is all good. Having owned Jaguars in the past I'm a little leery of their reliability.
@Steen Jensen Very well said. It definitely has multiple pain points that could arise. Definitely concern for risk especially with Jaguar's rep of not being super reliable. Seems to have gotten better over the years but there are a lot of little things with this car that can pop up at any moment. At least it's pretty though and I'm sure fun to drive when everything is working properly
@@tonypartridge7085 There are many reports out there of people driving these cars with little to no issues. My buddy drives an Aston Martin Vantage, a 2009 bought used. He has had it quite a few years now (7?) with little to no issues. Had he listened to the Internet he would have missed out on many years of the great experiences he has had with the vehicle, and the many many more he is planning to have. It is an incredible car. I too have done a lot of research on this car, and I’m not seeing anything of tremendous concern. All cars have problems, and I see no indications that this car is hugely problematic. I also have the added advantage of someone I trust with deep knowledge of vehicles (deeper than mine) telling me that these cars are pretty flushed out at this point. He drives one himself and has close relationships with many mechanics who tell him they are very sound vehicles. This gentleman used to own/finance a racing team in Montreal, Canada. His peeps in those circles are telling him they are good vehicles. I get the general concerns around Jag of the past, but this particular vehicle is supposed to be pretty worked out at this point on the whole. Ferrari and Porsches. They have their issues too, and none are cheap. As for Corollas, my wife has one for commuting. Brakes, oil, and tires. It’s 11 years old. Drive what ya like, but I honestly do not see what you are going on about with respect to the F-type based on everything that I have read.

I don't have an F type, but I do have an XKR with the same 5.0L engine. It is my daily driver for the past 10 years and has 200,000 miles now. Without question, it's the most reliable car I've ever owned in 55 years of driving. It's been tracked many dozens of times, so it's not babied. Assuming the F type would share a lot of the XKR's characteristics, I don't think you could find a more reliable car from any manufacturer in any class of automobile. Certainly, you won't find any competing sports cars that can make the reliability claim in comparison.
I love this car but this video is kinda talking me out of getting one, mabey ill stick to my 2012 mustang gt.
Those are some issues but even car has problems. I still feel there are few other cars like these

Hi man, and everyone here. If I may throw in my grain of salt, i think you are mistaken about one thing. And i'm saying that with all due respect. When you say that reliability is if it takes you back home or not, is just your own personnal definition of what it is. But generally speaking, the term "reliability" means :"does it break often". And has nothing to do with does the car brings you home. And that works in every fields, not just in cars. If your sunroof keeps breaking up, its unreliable. If your washing machine keeps leaking water but is still runs, its unreliable despite teh fact that it still allow to do whatever it is supposed to do. The more stuff breaks, the more unreliable it is; period. Ask any engineer. A good example of a problem that is not a reliablility issue was the rocks in the window you mentionned. Nothing broken there, but at the same time there is still a badly engineered part. Not broken = not a reliablility problem. Its a design problem. That's the REAL difference between reliability and problems. Still, I love your videos.
All great points and I agree with much of it. This applies to many cars and one such example is Porsche 911 which has some amazing engineering and has a solid reliability but there have been some spuds along the way like rubber centred clutches, IMS issues, oil burning and even access for maintenance.

@@stevenberry1574 LOL. Actually a good mix of every of those. When I wrote this article I was driving a Cayenne GTS, and an old Maserati spyder. Now I drive a porsche boxster and an old rusty volkswagon routan that I call my "dog car" (they can't fit into the boxster and I wouldn't take them anyway). I guess i went from a very reliable utiltarian car and a very unreliable toy to a very unreliable utilitarian (its a rebadged dodge caravan in really), and a evry reliable toy.
As automobiles are primarily a means of transportation. When I hear the term "reliability"; I think about its ability to execute that function. Get you from point A to point B. With that said, it didn't sound good for the Jag 😅
Although, they are great-looking vehicles. Like a beautiful woman... it comes with reliability issues lol 😂
