Got the 2019 v8 R Dynamic in British racing green. It’s my favourite sports car I’ve owned. I’ve had a 2009 Aston Martin DB9 Toyota supra, and an older corvette. This car is reliable, fun to drive, an eye turner, and unbelievably fun to drive here in western Canada in mountain roads.
BEAUTIFUL! I had the V6 Supercharged version and sold it to buy the V8, well..... still have not been able to buy it! Should've just been happy and kept the V6. The V6 was still super fast and fun and sexy! I miss it!
Lovely. I took a while to get mine. P380 AWD, white, black 20 inch alloys, upgraded seat, leather pack, 2018 late march registered so the updated media system. Heated steering wheel...convertible.
I did the exact same thing. It took about two years to find my used 2017 F-Type Premium. Non-negotiable items were: Manual transmission (so V6 only), Sounds & Vision pack (includes blind spot monitoring, panoramic roof (I think, might have been separate option), and not black). Also really wanted the V6S, but I let that pass since I could get over 400HP with just a tune (really only missing adaptive dampers and LSD). Same as yours, mine dropped $30K in the three years since new (bought in 2020). Thanks for all your recent F-Type videos, been watching most of them lately!
Out all of the cars in the world to have , the F Type is the one for me , in my opinion it looks absolutely amazing , this one is a absolute beauty . Well done it's le crēme de la crēme .
I have the 2017 model (R version) with heated seats (the “bulky” ones). Have you heard anybody “upgrading” his seats making them to have the cooling feature? Do you think I should also change the seats and get the “skinny” ones before I “upgrade” them?
Mr. GB, another cool video. Your my fav f type guy on here. I got myself those same scrolling side mirror lights you had in your other video. Put on carbon fiber side mirror caps at the same time. Much better and the carbon fiber matches well with the ammonite gray I have. You also need the puddle lights that shine jaguar logo under the doors when you open them. Cheap less than $20 upgrade that’s super easy. Then, replace the foot well lights with colored led. The factory ones are yellow old style bulbs. Another things you’d probably be interested in if you’ve not ran across it on here is the Mina gallery intake, $500 upgrade. Replaces both filters and the plastic piping with metal piping. Makes the supercharger whine lots louder. There’s some videos on yt showing it. Anxious to see what you put on here next man.
AMAZING car. I have the f-type s and so happy with it. Mine is in two colors: black and white. Giving it also a unique look. Your spoiler also looks great, I thought you had a different one before, the one you see a lot and just look off. Now the car is just top. One of the most beautiful f-types I have ever seen. Well done.
I have owned two f-types - a 2016 6 cylinder, and my current 2022 p450 convertible. they have both been truly wonderful cars to own for all the reasons you likely already know. I tuned my p 450 with velocity ap, making the engine approx 575 hp. i have spaced the wheels outboard 25mm, and lowered it as well, also with velocity. the front 1.5" and the rear being quite difficult to lower, only getting .5". still trying to solve that issue. with the added hp, the thing is a fucking beast that is so quick it is hard to believe. the rears break loose much too fast, so i am looking into mich cup 2's and possibly sr's for more rear grip as i love in so cal, and wet performance is not really a factor. but i love this car so much it hurts!
Beautiful F-type R! I have a black 2017 one and love it. What year is your car? Also, where did you purchase that after-market spoiler? I'm new to your channel, and I'm glad I found it. Keep up the great work! A shout out from Chicago.
Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching and commenting. The spoiler is actually standard. The fixed rear spoiler was an option at point of build. This car is a late 2017 so getting on a little now, but still doing well and getting good enjoyment!
In my case, it had to be a manual which narrowed it down to the V6. Less than 200 were made in the UK. After a year, I finally bought a 2018MY V6 R Dynamic in Caldera Red manual and I love it!
You're more patient than I am. Been looking a couple of months and found the perfect car, just the wrong colour. It's grey like yours and I wanted something brighter. Gotta say though, after binge watching all your F-Type vids the grey is growing on me, so I think I'm probably gonna grab it. Really enjoying your channel!
First off, I have never agreed to 100% of peoples choice when finding a perfect car in all categories...... But I must admit... I think you found the most beautiful F-Type Ive ever seen....
A great video as I start my search for a 5.0 R. I'm really pleased I found the channel. You mentioned that after a certain vin number retrofitting upgrades is easier on a 2018 car, and you also mentioned that you need an early '18 to avoid the exhaust muting. Are you able to share that vin number range please, and an example of how it's expressed on the vin plate? Many thanks in anticipation.
So many features I didn't think about such as the headlight brightness. That is HUGE for me. Replacement LED Morimoto headlights for my 2500 Ram were $1500 but the stock headlights are terrible.
Nice video. I like the older seats more - just how I am about leather...I like the more durable, old school feel of them....all the seats are made be Lear I think. On the braks, have had no issues with function even if used hard...secret is using CASTRO SRF fluid. Not sure if one can push the car on the street hard enough to see a difference. And, the stock brakes are linked to the system electronics for all sorts of things so I would leave them alone. Every Porsche I have had has needed brake caliper rebuilds...these have been completely reliable wihtout any issues...so sometimes looks can be decieving.....rebuilds are not cheap.
I waited a few years too, I originally was looking at the 400 -Type as I really liked the grey & yellow livery. Trying to find one and act they were as quickly sold and the prices started to go up. After continually looking, I even checked out a V6 380 in the spec I wanted but wasn't sold as the steering wheel I felt was too big, so after seeing a 2015 low mileage V8 R with carbon in lays (black spec too) I just had to go and look and so glad I did. I put the deposit down before leaving. Anyhow I'd love to do a lot that you have but am happy with the car and time is my enemy. Great video and nice breakdown. For something so expensive you have to wait to get what you want, I didn't realise I wanted a V8 ;) perhaps that's why I never resigned to the 400!
Thanks for another great comment, Chris. I also looked at the 400 for exactly the yellow detailing, also. It sounds like you got a great spec in the end and I totally agree, they’re worth waiting for
@@MrGB_UK Cheers buddy, my Jag is basically my 'swan song' of motoring. I have already done the mid life crisis thing, if it is a thing, but now I'm at the mad life crisis! The Jag does tick that box for sure. I have at best 10 years of motoring left, maybe 7 if the powers that shouldn't be have their way!! Good luck!
Great video, have been watching most of your F=Type content recently. Currently looking for what feels like a unicorn spec F-Type and flip flopping between an SVR and an R. Want either the same grey you have or an Ultra Blue and its the options which make it difficult, have found a few cars recently that tick most of the must have boxes on my list (my must haves are largely identical to what yours were), only to miss out on one very important one (seems to be the panoramic roof in most cases recently). Will carry on looking as i completely agree when you are buying a car of this type and value, no way do you want to have buyers remorse a couple of months after purchase. One thing your videos have told me is that certain options such as the 10" screen can be retrofitted providing you buy the right age of vehicle, which gives you a small window (9 months?) between being able to fit the new screen and when they made the changes to the exhaust sound.
Thanks for a great comment. I feel your pain. Ultra blue is a stunning colour - you often see SVRs in this, and it’s an absolute beauty. It sounds like you’re heading in the right direction, and I’m sure you’ll find the perfect car. I had eBay and auto trader alerts going and on my phone for ages before I found this one! Good luck with the hunt!
It is a nice spec. I get the upgrade for screen. IMO BSM is close to worthless - had it in 5 cars and my F-Type. Auto High Beam is almost worthless. I love the idea.. but in practice, neither BMW, Tesla or Jaguar is great at it. I have it in my F-Type.. rather have it than not. I don't know how much I would pay to add it. My must haves: RWD (this is an extra car - fun convertible car), Sport Pack, Black Pack, Meridian Surround, Not black or white (orange was my #1 choice). Found one in Silver that I love. All must haves.. Plus Extended Leather, Adaptive lighting pack and more. Love it. Definitely agree with you to research, find your spec w/ must haves and wait.
Thanks for a great comment. I totally get where you’re coming from, especially where the car may not be a daily. For me, I’d much prefer the option of BSM, to avoid the harsher alternative. Perhaps it’s just laziness 😆
I had an 16' Ftype R for a year, had a few electrical dramas we could just never get to the bottom of, so I bought an SVR convertible have had that for a year.. the interiors are just so much nicer, for some reason I dont think its as loud as the R, ive dropped it on KW adjustable coilovers and spaced it 15mm front 25mm rear, now looking up stage 3 tuning lol
Love your car....great job. Sorry if I missed this but what year is this one? What are the size of the tires and rims and brands? They fill out the wheel wells perfectly...and was the car lowered? Thank you..and congrats again on making such a great looking car and sharing it with us. Cheers.
Love your videos, great content - you’re an F-Type mad scientist! I’m about to pick one up - what type of phone mounting solution would you recommend? I’m guessing you’ve done your research. All guidance appreciated, cheers 🙏
Thanks for the support! There are some that mount to the grab handle (link below, not endorsed). Personally I don't use a phone mount as I have a wireless carplay adapter. The previous owner did have one of these mounts and sadly it has left a subtle indentation in the leather, so proceed with caution. I hope that helps www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373606632050?chn=ps&_ul=GB&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=373606632050&targetid=1405537545298&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9046030&poi=9045704&campaignid=19697487526&mkgroupid=146142829637&rlsatarget=pla-1405537545298&abcId=9327625&merchantid=6995734&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8J6wBhDXARIsAPo7QA-2VIfAFGdyuN7shp_ut93NpvbbPlT7UwUwhogq5-A4pidcINgqUuQaAjyhEALw_wcB
Thank you! I haven't, but its something I'd love to model. Sadly I don't have/know how to use photoshop, however I think you're right... It would look awesome!
Great video as always! Very informative and love the chats 😊. Hoping you can help me figure out if the retrofit screen will work in my SVR ? how did you go about matching the VIN
Thanks for the support! I can’t help you unfortunately but if you message LR Retrofits with your Vin, then can help. That’s the company who did mine and I can’t recommend them highly enough! Fingers crossed you get the green light!
In one of your videos, you say you had rear and front dadh cams fitted. Was this difficult .as the installer thats fitting my ghost immobiliser is saying they can not fit them
You done well with getting most of the specs you wanted, I got most but like you never got the blind spot warning light in the wing mirrors, I don't suppose I needed them in the convertible so that's why I suppose I was wasn't to bothered. The rear aerofoil on the convertible is much bigger than the coupe so no need for a change there, the wider info screen is great so I think I will look into that one next. Another really interesting chat again always look forward to watching when they come up, when are the performance mods coming up? you know you want to...
One of my favourite comments to date - thank you for the kind words Dave 🙌🏻 I’m looking at the pulleys and map - I’m trying to find a place to do it that will be flexible with me wafting a camera round. I can’t imagine that wouldn’t be annoying if you’re trying to work! I’m also waiting for the second cat to fail (the first has already gone) so I can justify a pair of sports cats haha
@@MrGB_UK Had all my mods done at Swallows Racing, Bristol, good bunch of blokes with all the time you need but quiet a trek away, highly recommended but then I would say that wouldn't I. Just a quick question, have you done anything with your suspension in some of your video your car looks lowered.
@MrGB_UK I had my map done at Viezu th-cam.com/video/BIzfgFFQQ7g/w-d-xo.html This is my 2016 R AWD. They specialise in the JLR 5.0. Up to 591hp and nearly 790 nm. It made such a difference I'm not sure I'd bother with a pulley or sports cats as its more than enough power in any situation
@@richardfreeman2242 this was another avenue I was looking at. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Do you mind me asking a ballpark cost for this service? Was it noticeable enough to be worthwhile? Thanks !
Great video. I find that the biggest problem with car buying today is there were so many options. You sound like me when it comes to specs lol. I've only been reading about this car for a day or two but from the sound of your spec is yours an early 2018? I get that from the fact that you have a front facelift bumper and the infotainment was upgradable. From what I've found the infotainment upgrade is only available for a chassis number with the 10th digit as a J which is the 2018 model. I've been looking at potential options for the infotainment pre-face lift simply because I don't know if I can afford one so options would be great. Do you know if there are any aftermarket front bumpers too? If you haven't already I'd love to see a video about current prices to maintain the car, average fuel, oil, spark plugs, minor and major service etc. Great video once again, I'd love to know how you afford something this beautiful. I'd rather not buy one on finance since repayments would kill me but I've got some investments I'm hoping will pay off soon.
What a great comment, thanks for taking the time to leave it. You’re correct regarding the upgrade of the screen and the VIN. If you’re UK based, have a look at a company caller LR Retrofits. They’re great and can upgrade a fair bit on these cars. Yes, mine is an early 2018MY. I’m not aware of any bumper upgrades, other than fitting an SVR or P7 variant. I’ve got a service video due to drop soon, where I speak about servicing costs, so keep your eyes peeled!
@@MrGB_UK fantastic, thanks. I didn find LR Retrofits and it looks like a great option. They list your headlights too and I think they're compatible with the pre-facelift as well (for 2k). Get those upgrades to the mirror done and the throw out a video. Love the content
Excellent vid! I’ve had the same issues in searching for my own personalized spec’d R. When was the last production month in ‘18 before the muted exhaust came to pass? Thx again!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m not sure in the exact month, but there’s plenty online about the exact VIN range it does and doesn’t apply to. It’s easy to determine when looking at a car. If you can turn it off for 5 seconds in dynamic mode, and turn it on again with it still in dynamic mode, it hasn’t had the updated map
Stering wheel leather looks weird to me. No perforated wheels look cheap to me not sure why. It's super shiny and tight pulled leather Amazing cool car btw I just finished my car hunt after crashing my last S4. It's
Typically late 2017 onwards. Easy way to tell if factory car play is possible, is if the screen does not have the buttons either side of it. If it does, there are aftermarket solutions available
Also second question, and I know this sounds crazy but is the car always so loud? Wouldn't want to do everyone on my streets head in when I pull into my drive in the middle of the night (as I work nights).
Yeah, that's a decision that plagued me when buying this. I ultimately decided on the pre-face as the only facelifted ones in budget were the P450s. Whilst I could have mapped it easily to the full 575, it was hard to find a P450 with the 'R' style seats. A few of the Reims edition ones had them, but they were a fair few £k's over what mine was. I think I'll move the the new shape in a few years when the price of them comes down a bit, as the new shape is really growing on me!
@@nikikonov A pleasure. Yeah, I'd agree with that timeframe. One thing to consider also, is the facelift will have the muted exhaust tone, however if you were planning to map the car up to 575bhp (assuming you were to buy a P450), then you could have this sorted at the same time. Good luck with the hunt!
Quick exhaust question. Can they not reflash the old software if they accidentally upgrade you to the quieter firmware? Do you know the name of the firmware update that "ruins" the exhaust sound?
Well, my list is much (much) shorter. And I am also actively checking the market for several months now. I am not even too restrictive about the color or the motor. Maybe the V6 would already do fine for me (first world problem as you say). But I could not yet find the proper offer for me. With all the stuff you wanted, I would say you were lucky as hell to get this car.
I’d have to agree with me being lucky as hell to find the car. I did compromise in a couple of areas, as mentioned, but overall I’m very happy. I hope you find the right car and thanks for another great comment Happy shopping!
Like you I searched for the spec I wanted - including most importantly for me, the carbon ceramics and P7 wheels. IMO they are the best wheels on any Jaguar, and the yellow callipers really pop on such an elegant car. You did remark about maintenance - they cost nothing to maintain. Mine are worn between 5-10% according to Jaguar after 22k miles. They will actually last a lifetime in normal use (unless you do regular track days). So I purposely went for them knowing they would SAVE me money in the long term. Def go for a model with them on if you're in the market for an F-type!
Memory seats and heated steering wheels aren't standard on these?! Jaguar's equipment parting is bizarre. These are standard features on the XK, even the base, let alone the Rs.
What you say is not true, when it would be an early f-type model it would be a 2017 MY, same seats and optic but the navigation is the old small one (with the new software on it). This one year already has OPF so the sound is bit quiter but still briliiant. I know what i m talking about, i drove the mentioned F Type R last weekend 🙂
@@MrGB_UK no it just must of been a coincidence that you parked somewhere when walking round the car which already looked like a pool of oil on the floor, great car BTW 👍

Cheers.
Great video, sir. I want one of these in a bad way. Looking for a 2015 R Coupe that won't break the bank.
Thanks for the support!
The new seats are nicer and probably more weight savings, BUT they don’t have the back bolster adjusters!
I hope that helps

Sweet ride brother , congratulations ! 😃
Thanks! I appreciate it
Perfect spec , bravo 🙌! Only thing I would prefer personally would be the alcantara option for the instrument cluster and roof
That would be an absolute beaut! A very hard option to find. I think I’d still be shopping now, haha!
Lovely spec
Have you done a photo shop to see how she looks with bronze powder coated calipers (a match for the body accents)?
What’s colour is the trim is it bronze
Where did you buy the rear spoiler from?
Can you please provide me with the company name for the infotainment system you installed?
Certainly. It was a company called LR Retrofits. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough
@@MrGB_UK thanks a lot buddy!
How’s the reliability on the F Type?
what year is your f type? What is the best year f type to get also?
In one of your videos, you say you had rear and front dadh cams fitted. Was this difficult .as the installer thats fitting my ghost immobiliser is saying they can not fit them
I fitted them both myself. It was an easy enough job and it is certainly possible to do. I fitted a Thinkware Q8000 👍🏻
Sweet - great how it all came together.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It looked like it wouldn’t fit a while, but we got there 😆
Hey again, is that the Corris grey or Carpathian grey?
You done well with getting most of the specs you wanted, I got most but like you never got the blind spot warning light in the wing mirrors, I don't suppose I needed them in the convertible so that's why I suppose I was wasn't to bothered. The rear aerofoil on the convertible is much bigger than the coupe so no need for a change there, the wider info screen is great so I think I will look into that one next. Another really interesting chat again always look forward to watching when they come up, when are the performance mods coming up? you know you want to...
One of my favourite comments to date - thank you for the kind words Dave 🙌🏻
I’m looking at the pulleys and map - I’m trying to find a place to do it that will be flexible with me wafting a camera round.
@MrGB_UK I had my map done at Viezu
th-cam.com/video/BIzfgFFQQ7g/w-d-xo.html
This is my 2016 R AWD.
I smile everytime I drive mine v8 AWD 2017 convertible
What is the name of that color?
I love Jags but there won’t be any dealers soon so who will maintain them?
There are a strong host of independent specialists out there. I think we’ll be OK 👌🏼
What are you going on about? There will still be dealers. Have 2 in my city, and they look to both be staying.
Hello, the muted exhaust came in 09/2018 in Germany.Maybe it's the same date in your country.
Stering wheel leather looks weird to me. No perforated wheels look cheap to me not sure why. It's super shiny and tight pulled leather
Amazing cool car btw I just finished my car hunt after crashing my last S4. It's
What year does the F-Type get Apple carplay? Cause it's the only thing I need on a car. I am looking into pulling the trigger on one of these.
Typically late 2017 onwards. Easy way to tell if factory car play is possible, is if the screen does not have the buttons either side of it. If it does, there are aftermarket solutions available
Gorgeous car. Are the gold mirrors and trim OEM?
Thank you. They’re not, no. I wrapped them with vinyl
@@MrGB_UK Good to know. I am just starting my search for an F-Type, this video was amazing. Thank you.
Also second question, and I know this sounds crazy but is the car always so loud? Wouldn't want to do everyone on my streets head in when I pull into my drive in the middle of the night (as I work nights).
You can take the exhaust out of active mode. It is always loud on cold start though! Coming home, you should be fine with the ehaust closed
@@MrGB_UK Thanks very much for your answers! I'm spreadsheet deep on a couple of models as we speak!
nice one, well worth the wait beautiful car.
What about the new styling mate? The 2020 ones, which you could find for similar money...the p450 ones I believe?
Yeah, that's a decision that plagued me when buying this. I ultimately decided on the pre-face as the only facelifted ones in budget were the P450s. Whilst I could have mapped it easily to the full 575, it was hard to find a P450 with the 'R' style seats. A few of the Reims edition ones had them, but they were a fair few £k's over what mine was. I think I'll move the the new shape in a few years when the price of them comes down a bit, as the new shape is really growing on me!
@@MrGB_UK cheers for the reply, mate... I'm waiting on them as well... an year or two I assume
H239 Update👍🏼
@@easyxtheschnapp1843 can it be over ridden by removing fuse 15/43?
Well, my list is much (much) shorter. And I am also actively checking the market for several months now. I am not even too restrictive about the color or the motor. Maybe the V6 would already do fine for me (first world problem as you say). But I could not yet find the proper offer for me.
With all the stuff you wanted, I would say you were lucky as hell to get this car.
I’d have to agree with me being lucky as hell to find the car. I did compromise in a couple of areas, as mentioned, but overall I’m very happy. I hope you find the right car and thanks for another great comment
Happy shopping!
What is the top speed of your car jag f type v8
Like you I searched for the spec I wanted - including most importantly for me, the carbon ceramics and P7 wheels. IMO they are the best wheels on any Jaguar, and the yellow callipers really pop on such an elegant car.
You did remark about maintenance - they cost nothing to maintain. Mine are worn between 5-10% according to Jaguar after 22k miles. They will actually last a lifetime in normal use (unless you do regular track days). So I purposely went for them knowing they would SAVE me money in the long term. Def go for a model with them on if you're in the market for an F-type!
Hey MrGB! Did you get the black badges from Jaguar itself? Or a online shop? If so, you wouldn’t mind sharing the link would you?
You can buy them from jaguar now
@@davidtraylor4505 ohh ok thanks
Shes a beaut! I would like one with updated tech, live spoiler and earlier model grill
Talking about seats the early seats where so uncomfortable the number one complaint
Quality video bro
The convertible, although nice, just doesn’t have the F Type shape. I have a 2018 V6 and I have to say sounds a bit muted compared to others.
Memory seats and heated steering wheels aren't standard on these?! Jaguar's equipment parting is bizarre.
These are standard features on the XK, even the base, let alone the Rs.
Can somebody please tell me the year of this car?
2017
What you say is not true, when it would be an early f-type model it would be a 2017 MY, same seats and optic but the navigation is the old small one (with the new software on it). This one year already has OPF so the sound is bit quiter but still briliiant. I know what i m talking about, i drove the mentioned F Type R last weekend 🙂
Did you lower this car? :) thx
No this is standard height. It could be on the cards though!
@@MrGB_UK did you sell it a few months ago?
Lots of owners in the comments. How is the reliability?
Love that colorway
Thanks! And thanks for watching and commenting
What year?
2018 👍🏻
An amazing car. Made me laugh as I'm quite fanatical about a car being exactly the spec I want
Is it leaking oil?
Not that I’m aware of 😂 Should it be?
@@MrGB_UK no it just must of been a coincidence that you parked somewhere when walking round the car which already looked like a pool of oil on the floor, great car BTW 👍
Should of bought the full fat SVR but at least u can upgrade in future
What year was it?
This is a 2018 car
whats this colour?
Carpathian grey 👍🏻
I take 2 years to get approved from Wife 😂! But now I have my 2019 Cat R.. And is awesome ❤️💙😎
My perfect car too. I will wait til I get what I want
Beautiful!
Amazing car !! ❤
You could at least turned it over, so we could hear the engine.
ชอบยี่ห้อนี้มาก
Great car -Pity about the number plate.....get a normal one, or keep it and make it legal!
I guess I just got lucky I found what I was looking for in less than 2 weeks
Dream car
lovely👍
Concentrating on the sight n sound is surely missing the point of this brilliant and dynamic car.
I am not sure why toe capped boots were needed.
Vents were not moved to accommodate the transmission. So funny.
You are very lucky to be able to afford an f type with those specs as some of us are not loaded and have to have do with a basic f type .
Struggling with watching the video and admiring the car and then being distracted by that bulging weapon you're packing 😳🫣
