I'd prefer if there were hints in the game and hidden quest chain for obtaining legendaries. For example, you loot a strange object from the boss corpse, and in that items description you read something like, 'probably you can find information about it in the Scarlet Monastery library'. Then you go to the library, look through tons of books until you finally come across the story of Karl Awesomedude, who used to be the owner of this item which actually is a part of Awesomedude Family Trinket. You read that Karl went to Northrend with Arthas, but never returned. Then you go to Northrend and piece by piece learn more about the destiny of Awesomedude until finally you find him, fight him (as he is actually turned into a powerful necromancer), loot the second part of the trinket and boom! - there is your legendary after several weeks of following hints, solving riddles, reading lore in-game, crafting and maybe some grinding. For me it would've been more exciting than looting a BiS legendary from a named elite frog.
Wouldn't work, One person would just post everything online and every idiot would just follow the guide.

Shadowmourne is the last real memorable legendary
You frikkin had to forge it in the BREATH OF SYNDRAGOSA. And you built it from Arthas' original hammer. Damn it was glorious. As a Fury Warrior, to survive Syndragosa's breath i had to equip a shield and pop my defensive cooldowns while having a Priest' bubble up.
But man was it worth it.

One thing you missed about the cloaks was that they allowed you to fight the world boss Ordos and if you didn't get one back then, you are currently in-eligible to fight that world boss for any of his drops
There's a workaround for that. Have someone with the cloak pull Ordos to the gate and tag him. Not sure if you can get loot but it at least counted for a guild ach.

So one thing you didn't mention, was even in TBC a reasonably geared group of 10 level 70 players could have difficulty doing 40 Naxx. It was very heavily over tuned, and being a 40 man made it even harder to clear with small groups in TBC before it went away in Wotlk.

To be Fair alot of the Legendaries back in Vanilla weren't amazing, besides there looks, they were replaced by higher gear from other raids.
@@Pookie2112 That didn't happened though and for obvious reasons.
In vanilla, basically all epic items had their backstory that made them epic - not only bonuses to stats, but epic lore-wise. Legendary items were trully legendary and if someone had such legendary item, he was a god.
Today epic gear is standart in such level that you are trying to get better item level of your epic gear. Rare, or even uncommon items? They basically do not exist anymore... Amount of legendary items is huge and almost no legendary items has some quest bound to them and require you only have luck while slaying easy boss...
Indeed, i do wish for a quest legendary item that isn't based on puuuure RNG but skill, i like the darkmoon tonk toy due to it only being skill for example.
Yeah, I kinda wish that were the case again, but in a way it makes sense. Since your character by this point is close to being a demi-god, it makes sense you only go for epics and you have a better access to elgendaries. What doesn't make sense is that said epics come from random wolves and street thugs in an alleyway or whatever.

I'm always so surprised how you always put some very old info into your time warp videos. Those very, very old screenshots that you have or you find, especially the one of the first legendary necklace item and the person/guild who got it. I really enjoyed the video. You are so cute when you edit every single misplell or when you say something wrong. I think I like the hybdrid way the most.
I think i prefer the older version. Legendaries are supposed to be just that, stuff of legend.

ofc they do vanilla lasted over 3 years and proper guilds have all raids on grind on my servers they made speed rag kills with 30+ frostmages in raid it wos all on grind last few months pre expansion

@Gummie Bear, I dont think a lot of people hand them at all, it was pretty rare back in the day (as it should be) to see someone with either of those weapons you mentioned, im talking 2005 - 2007 here.
I think they pretty much nailed it with the staff of Atiesh.
1. Obtaining it is impossible without collective hard work in a guild. Which should be a bare minimum requirement in itself, that acquiring some of the most powerful items in the game is limited to guilds only.
2. In itself, the power level is not absurd. The Atiesh staff may have powerful stats at about 120 spell damage, when other Naxxramas weapons sits at around 85-95 spell damage. And while the aura damage bonus is a bit low, i think it's a step in the right direction that Legendary items provide a group or guild bonus.
3. There is some random elements to gathering the shards, but it's not absurd in either direction.
The Thunderfury sword was very good in that it required guild effort, it boosted the guild collectively through boosting the main tank but it was just way too random. The Hammer of Sulfuron required guild effort, but was not very good for the guild as a whole and it was too random. Whereas the Atiesh staff was nearly perfect, except for the fact that it was released in a 40 man raid at the very upper end of classic raid tiers in a time where information was sparse, getting less than 150ms across the board was a huge issue and even getting tolerable frames were a huge issue. These issues boosted what was a very difficult raid in itself, to being nearly impossible for all but the most well equipped guilds (in terms of computers and internet).
There is also the issue that Atiesh was only obtainable AFTER having beat all the bosses in the game.
Corrupted Ashbringer also made you Hated with Argent Dawn if you enter Light's Hope Chapel wielding it.

I think I liked the most how we WORKED towards getting our legendary items, meaning the cloaks from MoP and rings from WoD (althought the latter is my least favorite expansion, of course). Especially the cloaks, working together with Wrathion, fighting the enemies of Pandaria and that asshole Garrosh, receiving the Celestial's blessings... it was such an epic journey!^^
Glad to see you sticking with these nostalgia type videos. It seems every TH-camr that plays Warcraft is trying to capitalize on the 7.2 videos. You made yours, got the point across and moved on. It seems some of the bigger channels are re-uploading the same content over & over again.

There is no one perfect system. You have the attitudes of have, and have nots. People want exclusivity, so if they have it, they don't wnat others to have it. But if you don't have it, then it's not fair for you to not have it. In short, people want it easy for only them but no one else has it.
Well I was very happy with my Epic maces as a Druid, hell, some of those took weeks and weeks to obtain.
I knew Legendarys were out of reach for me (i wasn't in a raid guild)
Well now Blizzard uses that against their playerbase. You have to play through the expansion to beat the final raid boss. If you don't, you don't get that special mount and players use it as some status symbol, saying "hey I got this moose because I gave in to blizzard's terrible scheme."
I think items for Legendaries should have a good story and long quest chain with it. Plus a raid boss at the end! Plus something like how shadowmoure or warrior axe, You had to take a dragons cold breath with your axe equiped to take the buff.
Vanilla wasn't pure luck though.
It was a mix of luck and dedication.

I actually saw a mage on Argent Dawn having Atiesh, I was impressed. Never really seen anyone actually having it, guess he/she use it for roleplaying now.

Seriously tho, i've seen this video countless times and just now i realized he said the users of Atiesh were WARRIORS lol.
something to keep in mind regarding the scarab-lord and black qiraji battletank, it was obtained by way more people than originally intended due to the new server debacle in wrath of the lich king, thousands of people who had a sceptre transferred to the new servers blizzard opened back end of TBC beginning of wrath and were able to open the gates of ahn'qiraj with their sceptre after solo'ing much of the "war effort" portion on the new server and getting the mount and title that way.

Quest for cloak was such a bitch. Farming runestones in ToT, then SoO. Such a great feeling when you finally got it and could jump the bridge in timeless isle to kill the hardest elite mobs and the world boss ordos

There was a parody of the Ashbringer at one point. An article on wowwiki in the /silly category detailed the story of Cashbringer, Blade of the Goblin Tradelord. It had the same model, with a $ sign where the skull/sphere usually are, and would whisper to you :

The warrior that got the Talisman of Binding Shard actually did get to keep it. Blizzard let him keep the item even though they removed it from the loot table after that (they didn't do any exploits or anything, it just dropped). Interestingly enough, he posted on the official forums not too long ago. The character had name and server changed since then but he still has the item. He apparently still plays, but that's not his main anymore, and he has the game set to only show achievements earned by the character on the armory so people don't figure out who he is in-game now and bug him. us.battle.net/wow/en/character/blackrock/Savorx/advanced

The funniest part in getting the Ashbringer is the the troll pages Nat Pagle left so people would spend countless hours and days until blizzard announced they can't get it from there, but did people care? No, so they kept going. It's funny because to get the new ashbringer skin U actually have to fish for it and it took me like 7 hours straight up fishing to get mine :) haha.
I want Atiesh back :( it is so sad they removed the options to get these items, because they are still in the game, but we cannot have them anymore. I officialy hate blizz for that.

I dont mind cus otherwise every kid and his mother would have it, like thunderfury... I'd rather see it once in a lifetime than every time i log on. (not playin retail anymore tho)
Those legendaries were removed for a good reason. If you were able to get them nowadays, they wouldn't be exclusive at all.
Exclusivity is completely overrated. Meant for nothing but the few lucky(not necessarily based on any skill) people to brag about having something other people don't. And this kind of exclusivity is based solely on time, as in the only reason someone can't get it is because they weren't around at the right time. Speaking nothing of a person's skill. I like the model they have for the "Herald of the Titans" title. Its not a perfect recreation of the conditions required to obtain it in LK, but changes in the game make it both easier and harder to do the same fight.
This is not another one of those "vanilla was harder" replies but if you got atiesh you were not lucky, you were highly skilled with a group of other highly skilled players. There were a very small % of players that ever got to even set foot in Naxx pre WOTLK. Even in BC with BT/SW gear it was still hard for raiders who were not skilled. I do agree though that it is also timing based as players now that are maybe in their 20s or younger were not around 10+ years ago when it was available. The only way to fix this would be to cap ilvl/player lvl if you still want to do these old vanilla quests. The problem with that is Blizzard having to take time away from current content to satisfy a very small % of players who would actually play the old content. Mythic raiding is very small as it is, now imagine trying to get a raid size twice that big.
As a fan of the lore in the warcraft Universe for over 20 years now I would have to say I prefer the quest method of acquiring legendaries

The Draenor rings. Made the 2nd boss of mythic HFC go down in less than 20 seconds.
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros was a pretty awesome and involved weapon to get.

Getting an epic in classic is harder then legendary in Legion, at least outside of remotely decent raiding guilds.
I would go with a legendary per main quest completed from each zone. That adjusts to basic item level but provides the buffs it should.

I think ashbringer was supposed to be obtained in vanilla but since blizzard never finished and released the vanilla hellfire they just stopped.
Ashbringer's item ID is pretty low it was actually in the game before any other legendary discounting GM weapons. Makes me wonder what they had in mind originally.
They made outlands hellfire back in vanilla it is even in game just loo at youtube videos you can get their with a demonhunter from deadmines.

If blizz does a Classic+ sort of thing, the #1 thing I want them to do is ACTUALLY IMPLEMENT A QUEST SERIES FOR THE REAL ASHBRINGER

I would love blizz to make another event similar to the ahn'quaraj(hope I spelled it right) event in legion. like in order to enter the argas raid we have to build a massive cannon that drops off bosses in the argas area. after that the person who builds their cannon the fastest gets Kil'Jaedens legs as a mount.

I have the done the quest chain for Scrab Lord but sadly long after it you could no longer get the title or well I could if, I had transfer to a server where the gate was closed and rang the gong.
The removal of the legendary clock also ment that new players couldn't do the Raid boss on timeless isle.
I remeber the ring quest in Draenor since their was a steal mission who was super hard (before Blizzard) nerf it and best way to do the quest was getting invite via lfg tool to another server which gave you time to kill stuff.
However after the nerf I did the quest with ease.
I remember when a legendary item stood out on your server.

Aetish got removed with Pre-Wotlk patch since Naxxramas 40 got removed with Wotlk Pre-Patch. This means Naxx Wotlk didn't had it anymore the same way how Ashbringer was taking out of the game

Great video. But I'm afraid you haven't done all the homework. You missing a lvl 100 Thunderfury,Blessed Blade of the Windseeker dropped during vanilla wow in Chinese server. It was obtained by a Tauren warrior. And I notice you also forgot to include this information in that thunderfruy arsenal series. So Next time if you doing a video about legendary weapon, remember including this one.
Chinese servers do not count the classic chinese servers came out after burning crusade was out in the US due to having to reskin undead and cersor tons of stuff

I hate rng - guaranteed is imho way better as there is no unpleasant surprise at the end of the grind.
New servers don't have the gates to Ahn'Qiari opened. It's just that they don't open new servers anymore. When they opened a new server in WOTLK, a couple months after launch, prior to Ulduar i believe. You could get the Scarab lord title and mount.
They specifically said new servers after Borean Tundra (last server with gates) would have the gates open, but I think they just never got around to adding more since subs dropped.
Yep, one of my friends got scrab lord title and mount on DK.
