It would be more work but you could make a new account and cover your name in editing. Chat would be harder but I guess you could cover all the names since the chat color matches your colors.
Making the videos in batches is a good idea, both for production and anonymity. Don’t let us break you! Fwiw I think you’ve gotten pretty unlucky with the rolls two days in a row, and the reputation has just been icing on that cake. (I needed 12 to outroll 8 to win.) I think the variance swings back in your favor sooner than later.

When I would play in discord tournaments, I came in with an alt each time to see how many wins I could get on different accounts. Now, every tournament the organizers are curious who I am… even when I am not there 😂

Hey there! Nice playing with you and great job with the position. Crazy board and it was a good eye to take the 5 8 10 with the sheep. I do think I could have locked road in a better way if I pushed but even then you had great chances considering your hand was close to 20 cards or so. I don’t think it was about luck for you… you stayed in the game, made good trades, and closed it strong. Thank you for the support and good luck in season 5! We will meet again hopefully - DD

Hey Drew, it's The_Malcman from the game! Sorry for exposing you ahaha I had just watched your most recent vid right before queuing crazily, so if I hadn't I wouldn't even had known it was you. Really fun game, I choked a bit at the end there, never have had that many cars in my hand honestly and been in a position to maybe win. I've thought about it after and I couldn't have won that turn unless I popped 3 times and they were all VPs which isn't a great shot but I should've done something! Also, sorry I didn't trade you the road fast enough at the end, I was freezing up a bit haha and was also worried that you maybe would knight for army, get road and settle or something. The play was definitely to trade it to you though and I misplayed :(

Man that was a tough one. Orange had a super strong setup there. This is an example of 1st position not being great. Too many great starting spots.

Another thing I immensely respect about you, Dandy............is that you post EVERY game in your journey across a season as opposed to just the ones you win or barely lose. Obviously finishing like you did in this game hurts, but that's how it is sometimes and I commend how authentic you are about each step of the journey. 🙂
I know it's just Monday morning quarterbacking more than anything speculating how one would have placed differently in hindsight..............but honestly I don't even think placements were the issue so much as that your expansion opportunities were inferior to Orange and Blue, and you just couldn't keep up with their production long-term. even if yours wasn't necessarily bad. Being on a sole, easily blockable source of ore in the 5 Ore is dicey and while I know the purpose of the 2:1 wood port was to try and offset that dilemma, I think you were just outmaneuvered this time around.
Anyone who has climbed the leaderboard knows you lose more than you win. That’s the reality of the game. I have no shame in losing at this point after playing over 4000+ games of catan. There are some situations and boards that are unavoidable though. This one is extremely tough for first given how everyone’s setup is nuts. Early rolls and devs can make a massive difference on this kind of board. It’s the nature of the beast.
Now I do take full responsibility for the final play which was a mistake with using the YOP without working the board first. That is a blunder and next time, I have to catch that to give me a chance to win. On to the next game and appreciate the support 😊

The 5810 pointing up was the clear 1st pick for me here. Best sheep in a board full of ore and wheat is nice.
It’s good. There isn’t a bad starting pick honestly. For instance if you give me the mono instead of orange, I win more than 50% of the time given my wheat production and mono potential. Some boards are dangerous and explosive like this one.
I think Red should take the 8-5-4 instead of the 8-5-10. It takes away the 8-4-3 from you, and the 5-4-11 from Orange, and those 2 spots give you both very strong setups. The road with the 8-5-4 is kind've tricky, but I think the defensive play needed to happen. I'd probably point the road left to the 8-3, since if they point right to the 8-10, it's easy for you to take the 8-10 and point to to the 8-3 (I'm assuming Orange goes 9-10-11 in this scenario, which is much worse for them, not having any wood to go with their strong 8-brick). You could also take the 8-3 to 8-10, if Red's road is pointing towards the 8-3, but that's not as strong for you, and forcing you to take that instead weakens and slows down your opening, not having any starting wood to expand with. And even if you take the 8-3 to 8-10, Red still has the 6-3 open as an out to expand to, with good wood/brick production to get there (although the 8-brick 3-1 port should always be their first priority)...
i agree 100%. if red takes 8 4 5, 10 3 11, he dominates nearly half the board himself. can expand to get on 8 3 wheat sheep, 9-10 ore wheat, and can city faster than anyone else. only downside is the position invites a lot of robbing and your tiles being blocked most of the game. and that leaves your opponents to take coastal or spots like the 9-10 in order to stop you and because you cut off so many 3-tile starting spots
Such a fun game…was pissed you helped orange get road when he had a city in hand but I could’ve ran away with it I suppose. Was on red that you didn’t get road. No more brick. Sad!
Nice playing with you. Yeah I had to give orange road in that situation otherwise you win. Tough game but boards like that are chaos at times. Variance swings can give someone an absolutely crushing position. Good luck in season 5

But it gets to the point where games become virtually impossible to win. Getting denied trades and being constantly blocked just for being recognized as a high caliber player sucks. Dylighted had a recent video where one of his opponent’s pointed out his win rate, and everyone started blocking and robbing from him even though other players were ahead. Not surprisingly, Dylighted did not win that game.
@@YoloMoboJobo Its not about it being impossible to win. You can still win games when being recognized. It just creates an imbalanced that is unfavorable to myself as a name in the space. I was hoping to not go this route but it makes the most sense as we grow and I try to find the right level of engagement with my audience in game.

Looks like your first instinct about 5, 8, 10 was right. Should have gone for that. What an amazing board for the 3rd and 4th though.
Hindsight can be cruel sometimes. Don’t forget orange also pulled a massive mono which changed his game quite a bit. It’s an insane board no matter what
I think you almost had red pressured into handing you the win. If you played super dirty and pushed for another “road,” claiming you don’t have a knight, you had the settle for 8 and could play a knight for the win.
I messed this up by playing the YOP first and not giving myself the ability to take army. Big mistake by me
Two ideas for you Drew,
Idea 1: More editing. Blur your name in chat. Not fullproof but it should cut down on this. A bit more work in editing could make videos slower to put out, and thats unfortunate.
Idea2: Do the series one season behind and fill with content in the meantime. By this I mean change your name or make a new account. Record and edit your entire season. Post it NEXT season when you are already on a new name. Then you can roll out content regularly and its already been done weeks in advance. In the meantime while you play through this season you could instead post educational videos like you were doing with the classroom series. The content is good regardless of it being a season behind and this could be a good way to keep your anonimity without heavy editing.
You could even change the series name to "Road to number 2" and have those games be where you are noticed with AnotherWon while you secretly record your pushing account for number 1, then post that after. Road to number 2 is also kind of click-baity which could be hilarious.
I got ganged up on the other day because I had a good few first games in placements and somebody was like - oh he's a really good player, probably a youtuber! Meanwhile I've played maybe five games of Catan in the last few years before downloading Colonist lol I'm not that good

Just a thought, maybe next time you change your username or start a new account, you could blur it in the videos to make sure you won't be found out, at least not too early. That way I think you can still fairly safely post the videos of your placement games, which we would love to see of course!

I think red deliberately misplayed their starting settlements because they knew who you were. They could have very easily pointed right towards the wood port and plowed you with a starting road. Giving them a very strong early port and putting you in a worse position.
Potentially, but there are a lot of issues with making a move like that (especially on a board this dynamic and dangerous)
1. He is not guaranteed the plow. I will get the 843, starting with a wood. Which means I can trade for the brick, roll the 6, or roll a 7 and steal for it. I am very effective without trading deals in those situations.
2. Even if he gets the plow, he has to consider is it worth making an enemy on the board while also heightening his threat levels. This is a meta concept that a lot of new players miss because it’s such a subtle social nuance. By lowering my potential and increasing his with the plow, red makes himself a bigger target… more robs, more blocks, less trades. If anyone has played ranked and upset a player, then they know how difficult it is to deal with petty robs and blocks.
There are other pros and cons but these are things hopefully red would consider if they take the road plow. I actually think it would be the wrong play on this board
@@dandydrew he had the turn order over you so he’d have the guaranteed plow. But I get what you mean by making himself a bigger threat whilst also making an enemy very early.
Given that info I think he probably could have gotten an early trade or something off of you for him not to plow you. Even then though I still think the extra wheat + wood + wood port on a low sheep board would out weight the potential downsides.
Then again, I’m not about to sit here and tell the number 1 ranked catan player he’s wrong when I’ve not accomplished anything close to that in this game 😂

Just an idea, since changing names cost money, you could always censor your name in the videos, but that means more editing, especially when commenting.
Is there a way to blur out, or cross out the names of everyone playing in-game? Might be a better alternative than going undercover and then eventually discovered when you inevitably upload the videos to TH-cam again.
I could do this but long term it’s better I play my games in batches to help my sustainability and streamline my production. So might do 7-10 games over 2 days then consider editing the name. Blurring won’t matter since you can look up the other players and see who I was in that game. Appreciate you! - DD

I think most people know I’m just speaking out loud. I’ve spent the last 2 years verbalizing myself during competitive voice chat matches and it would be common to “get real” with the table in certain moments like that.

At the end of the day, we have the 3 sheep, wood port with 6 pips of wood and 695 + 843 into a 3:1. The 5 vs 3 sheep didn’t make the difference here.

I really like dylighted. But watching you had kind of made me realize how much he overcomplicates the game
😂 Dylighted is a really great player (and friend). I think we come to a lot of the same conclusions on most plays but I might not verbalize as many paths of thought as him. At the end of the day, he gets great results while maintaining a great attitude. I do think energetically I am a bit more grounded but that’s also years of experience coming through which I believe he will learn and embrace on his life journey.

No disrespect to him at all. I just feel like he overthinks things a little too much. Such as trying to extort at any opportunity or always offering insurance to players. I get the idea that technically these moves might move the needle slightly. But I feel like if I was playing against it I would get annoyed always hearing someone trying to get an edge or telling the board what they should I be doing. I like how you sit back and only speak when necessary. I feel this gives you more credibility

As for Red knowing who you are..............I say who cares? Own it. 🙂There are other players who don't hide who they are like Hawkeye for example, and it doesn't stop them from constantly competing at a high rate with the results speaking for themselves. No need to be modest about it in game chats. Just say, "As a matter of fact, I AM, what of it?". If anything, double down and let your game play do the talking like you have been doing. 🙂
Some people just want to play the game, talk about the channel once the game is over. Being high profile enough can get you targeted or griefed and not everybody wants the attention pre- or mid-game.
This is a fair point. Hawkeye is a very well known player in the deeper catan circles but I think his activity and spot light over the last 2 years has decreased. Newer players might not be as familiar with his reputation but of course he gets noticed. I take the reputation notice in stride as the comments in game have been overwhelmingly positive. I am also not using reputation as an excuse as I clearly misplayed the ending of this game and that’s on me. It’s already a challenge for me to play and cast my thoughts while in game, so I’m looking for ways to diminish some of the friction that comes with reputation. At the end of the day, winners win and don’t make excuses.
