i’ve never seen such a negative comment section before. you realize this video is for the BAND??? maybe she’s trying to recruit people who have a love for music and not people who want to be mentally and physically beaten down.
I "met" an army band guy with a bass guitar on his back walking through the barracks yard. He put half a case of 24can Bud Light in my arms and walked away without a word as we passed. I was a 20 yr old Private on my first day at my first duty station stateside walking to my first non-tradoc barracks room. Another soldier of his band unit helped me find my barracks room. Legal drinking age stateside is 21. First impressions. It was 0900 EST on a Saturday morning.
These are musicians. Just like we have people in supply, cooking and doing computer work. Not everyone can be infantry or a ranger. We have to have people for the small stuff too. The army has had musicians for a very very long time.
Just want to comment this, though I'm sure it's been said. This is OUR CULTURE. America's classical music IS military music. We finished the march genre. Sousa is still considered the best march writer of all time. You can be upset all that you want, but THIS is how we maintain the culture of the past. THIS is how ceremonies in the military are extravagant.
Enjoyed your video specialist Burnett. My son, Matthew, plays clarinet and is currently stationed in Alaska. Soon, he'll be at Fort Bliss. You'll probably run into him one day. Thanks again for sharing!
My dream is to become a military musician someday... Serving this wonderful country and pursuing my passion seems like a nice thing! But, i do wonder, would my asthma and diabetes prevent me from doing so?

Hello specialist Burnett, is there a way I can learn playing guiter with the Army? I am an Army Reserve Chaplain and would be going for CHBOLC this coming year. I would like to take some lessons with my newly bought guitar while on CHBOLC. I am a complete novice with guiter but I believe I can play. Please let me know. Thank you very much.
Short answer: no. Long answer: take lessons on your own or use TA to get music credits. They Army Band takes applicants that already have the musical skills to perform in Army ensembles.

I would think army musicians would have to have a high level of mastery of drill and ceremony. Army Veteran here, 63B10. The tuba is not the most feminine of band instruments. I think of the glockenspiel, fife and flute as feminine. You need a college degree to be an army musician?
This unironically allows people to join as soldiers while being musicians. Everyone still goes to basic combat training regardless of job, and can be deployed to war zones, (including the musicians). People don’t join due to being scared of war and death. These musicians are 100X’s braver than most US citizens who work a 9-5.
Yes that exists. I have master's in music as many people around me. Professional musician is an actual job. Not for everyone though. Takes a lot of dedication, many many hours of practice and discipline.
Because the military takes advantage of poor communities and children trying to relate to the youngest generation. The people in the army aren’t bad people, but the army, in my opinion, is bad.
Bro, calm down, look up delta force or the seals if you want to see rigorous training. This is for musicians that are looking for a job, and it allows the military to have numbers while giving a job.

When the Chinese attack, we will be prepared to welcome them with a hearty rendition of the People's March.
These same musician soldiers go to combat zones and are trained to shoot in BCT.

Funny. The Marine Corps Act in 1798 called for 48 drummers and fifers. Musicians have been part of the military since its founding.
