- In this tutorial I show you how to unlock the bootloader, root, and install TWRP custom recovery on your LG G4 H811 (This is the T-mobile version of the phone) Rooting the phone will allow you to do loads of things with your device, you get maximum capability! great job! there's a pile of complex issues for the g4 and especially h811, and I walked right into the dreaded boot loop mess. All fixed fine for me - thanks to you and XDA forum. YMMV is certainly true. NU Lineage 14.1, Bootloader unlocked, SU permanent before TWRP, and now TWRP permanent as well... Thxs... :)

Great video!!! Thank you, I skipped the downloading the offical TWRP app and just copied the TWRP img file that we used from the fastboot, then used Flashify to flash that file :D

For everyone with in fastboot:
1) Run the command prompt as admin (win+x command prompt as admin) and go to adb and fastboot folder;
2) Install the driver for the fastboot state. Not LG main driver. When you run adb reboot bootloader Windows will begin to identify the device as android in the devices list, with no driver installed. Go to Devices and Printers (win+r control /name Microsoft.DevicesAndPrinters), right click the android device, properties, enable changes, go to the driver page and manually update the driver to LG provided one (when asked to look for one online choose to select it manually from a list);

But, moved the su zip file into platform-tools, After your fastboot boot twrp.img command, and in the recovery on the phone hit advanced and ADB sideload then in the PC cmd window command "adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip" (no Quote) worked fantastic. 1. Read Device ID: fastboot oem device-id
2. Write Unlock Key: fastboot unlock unlock.bin
3. Check bootloader is unlocked: fastboot getver unlocked

1. Press the Power Button for 10 secods to turn off
2. USe "fastboot reboot" command if the fastboot is available.

After unlocking bootloader, I attempted to flash twrp recovery and nothing happened, The cmd prompt said this

ok so i completely unrooted unflashed and reseted my phone and im trying to do this again and when i root it gets tuck on the carrier screen and the led keeps flashing

my lg g4 version is us991 and I dont know if thats the cause but the command "adb reboot bootloader" only reboots the phone normally. I do not see that menu you indicate at 6:30-6:50-ish ...whats up?

Zauberzunge the thing is it shows up before I run the Fastboot command,
after I run the Fastboot command it doesn’t show up in the list anymore
Waste of time!! This method DOES NOT WORK!! When I try to enter the command "adb reboot bootloader" it simply re-starts the phone in regular mode. THIS VIDEO IS WRONG AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN DOWN!!!!

My "fastboot flash recovery (file)" command works but the "fastboot boot (file)" command doesn't, it says "Booting FAILED (remote: 'unknown command')".

Yes, that is part of a new update. The commands should work the same.

For LG G4 we have locked bootloader
and it is impossible to enter:
. fastboot oem unlock-go
because we get the message:
. FAILED (remote: 'unknown command')
. fastboot: error: Command failed

Didn't work for me. Once i got to twrp there was nothing on the internal storage even though i know for a fact i put it there. Very frustrating. Now i restarted my phone and it's "optimizing" apps so i think it's doing an update that will fuck my chances to root up

Finally after hours of trying different solutions and methods i found out that you have to update the software version 20o to 20r using LG Bridge software , after that you will be able to unlock the bootloader and root and twrp !

The computer is saying..waiting for any device......I don't know how to make sure the phone is still connected to the computer.. Once you enter fastboot oem unlock, I can't see it on the computer anymore... Not sure how to make sure the phone does not disconnect from the computer
I have given the offical twrp app root access but when I tried to find lg g4 h811 it just came up with lg g4 international and it only has the h815 edition, can I use this or is there another way to download it?
Use the international version. I'm not positive it will work, but it most likely will.

Hi there , your tutorial is great...it is the first time I ever trying to do this. I am stuck in the part when you need to open the window in platform tools and access the option open command window here. it doesn't appear in the window. I am not sure this is because the adb and the fastboot files doesn't have .exe ended extension. what can i do?
Did you make sure to first extract, then hold shift as you right click?
When i type adb devices it doesn't show my device then it says connecting to daemon then it fails to connect?
Make sure you hit the "Trust this computer" dialogue that comes up on your phone. If you have already done this and it still won't work, let me know. You also might need to install the LG G4 driver if it wasn't installed. Search it online and download it.

Bill Lau I'm sorry, but I don't know. China is very restrictive with their tech though, so I would guess that it wouldn't be possible.

Good info, but next time capture the entire process on video and edit. It would be extra helpful if all of the steps were captured on video from start to finish to have a full visual of the process.

Go into your system settings -- General -- About Phone -- Software info -- Software Version. If it does not have H811, do not use this tutorial. I can not do a video on the H815 because I do not own that version. There are other turorials out there though.

Were you in fastboot mode on your phone before typing this in? Fastboot mode is the black screen with text at the top left.

358kasey Of course as I said before I do everything as you explain in your video the first two commands that run perfectly, the third is that I do not pass the bootloader mode I have the drivers installed also the option of the oem in the settings menu besides he Tested all posts mtp, ptp, mdi and nothing friend ..

hey make sure your device is connected as "Charging" instead of the other options. I had the same problem and I changed it to charging when connected to pc and it detected the device on the command prompt.

@@358kasey Well right before finding your video I saw a reddit thread that said if the device shows anything other than 0 on anti-rollback then the phone will brick.

i was trying not to comment but im about 4 hrs in on something im sure only takes about 15mins lol pretty much what is happening for me, i'll do the adb reboot bootloader and the computer doesnt seem to recognize the phone anymore. I did the debugg and i have my phone trusting the computer, any ideas or suggestions?
