How to Root the LG G4 H811 Easily for Real

- A tutorial on how to root the LG G4, a phone that I found to be one of the hardest phones to root that I have owned. I found very little on how to actually root the phone in my searches through the interwebs, and once I figured it out, the easy and true way, I decided to help those who had as much trouble as I did pushing odd codes through ADB. A side note; this phone is running the latest version of android that was made available by T-Mobile.

TO ANYONE WHO KEEPS GETTING THE MSG THAT RECOVERY IS NOT FOUND:
Rename the recovery.img file to revoery only and then type the command Fastboot boot recovery.img
saved my life brother, only video that I found without loads of bull crap... simple to the point. All good now... thanks
renamed the twrp to Recovery and placed in minimal ADB fastboot directory but yours shows files that are NOT in my Folder...Plus there currently was NO existing file named recovery already there in that Minimal ADB folder

How did you unlock the bootloader???.. Is it just ADB.??.. please help anyone that's done it not speculative thanks...
For anyone getting error saying the device is locked use command "fastboot oem unlock" ATTENTION: This will delete all data on phone so be sure to back up files first.

curious if this method is still valid. trying to extend the life of my lg g4. when i get into bootloader, my computer can no longer see the device.

@@jwspiker Doubt this still helps, but all you have to do is install the driver for your device. check if the model number is correct this method only works on this specific device model.

Anish Maharjan i'm on android version 6.0, and software version H81120r, which is the latest version. If you follow these instructions exactly, it will work. the guy ⬇ down there tried flashing a rom with this method, which is not what this is a tutorial of. But, if you do as i say, with the H811, you will have root 😃

do i need to have super su in sd card cause for some reason my phone wont read sd cards and so i'm not using any.. can i copy super su in internal memory??
Yes, for ease, as in the video, i put it in my downloads folder to flash when in twrp, when you flash, it will not wipe your data, just install SuperSU, just reply if you need any more help 👌
i cant unlock oem from developers options menu , it doesn't stay checked mark as enabled ! whats wrong i have a lg g4 h811 20o version
+Arin Mn make sure it's not plugged into the usb when you try to enable own unlocking

i just bought lg g4 h811 because i read a lot about root access capability , but now im trying it doesn't let me to oem unlock it !
+Arin Mn once you allow oem unlocking in the developer settings, in adb after you boot into the bootloader, type "oem unlock". This will wipe your data, but will now allow you to use twrp
I can't check the box which says enable oem unlocking its at 00.50 of your video , i check the box it gives me warning and when i click on enable and it is still stays unchecked it dosent stay checked box !

after downloading the twrp from the website i tried to mount it but it seems they all are corrupted files. and this is the only reason i cannot get it through "fastboot boot recovery.img" my device is lg g4 815 europe version
+Mahfuj Rahman this tutorial is only for the H811, the file links i provided were specifically for the H811, but the methods should be the same, theoretically all you need are the correct files for your phone
Tyler Brown i downloaded all the twrp img files for my g4 815 version but mount fails all the time and I'm not sure if there all the img files got corrupted in the server..

This is the message i get when i try to boot into recovery.

cannot load 'recovery.img': No such file or directory
Yes, boot loader unlocked. Yes, i have the latest drivers. Yes, everything is spelled correctly.

AXEL MICHEL AKPRO you do not need your sd card in your phone, but rather the files be in the phone storage itself, since in twrp, I could not seem to find my sd card

+Lojza Beats make sure you have oem unlocking and usb debugging enabled in the developer options, and if it still doesnt show, you might just need to unplug and replug the device or restart it
i am 4:40 into the video and looks good so far it went into the boot loader which it never did before it was like impossible no matter what key i press but its possible with computer...
where are the files to download or where can i download them at?

Edit: it worked using a different version of twrp, but i haven't no more photos or videos, I had a lot of them...
Thanks for the reply, at least I understood why I lost them (by the way, the warning message didn't came out)...
And I know that isn't his fault, before doing this thing we must do a complete media backup (especially when you are doing important steps that haven't been shown in the video)
Why wouldn't you back all that stuff up??.. Its a rookie mistake and rooting 1 0 1..We have all done it at some point though so don't feel too bad..

no i just deleted it hoping that downloading it again and retrying the steps would work
dave dzugan download the file, rename it precisely and make sure there are no spaces or misspellings, because that is very crucial
i did that 20 times already still same results
i think it has to do something with the twrp for some reason cause i was trying another way and the command says cant find the file still
+dave dzugan ill make a zip file for you to download in a few minutes containing all the necessities, try it with that an then lets see how it works

I reinstalled my LG drivers when this happened to me, and for good measure, i also restarted the computer and phone

Have you enabled oem unlocking?
Yes i have the oem unlock the usb debugging and the boolaoder is already unlocked. i saved the file and renamed it and its where its suppose to be. when i type in the fastboot boot recovery.img it comes back saying waiting for any device
ok i got it to come up but it tells me that there is no file named recovery.img
If it says that there is no file, make sure that file was not erased, if it just says failed, you may need to re install the lg drivers
