  • In this video I provide an extensive review of the JBL Bar 9.1. While this is a solo review I do make a number of comparisons to the Samsung HW-Q950T particularly on sound quality.
    Updates/ Corrections....
    Wattage correction 820W
    Soundbar: 400
    Subwoofer: 300
    Surrounds: 60 each
Other viewers and YTbers do seem to be able to get Atmos via Apple TV. I don’t have the bar anymore so can’t confirm. My only explanation is that perhaps an Atmos setting was turned off on my Apple TV ... please share your specific experiences around Apple TV and getting Atmos (specific setup) would be helpful to the community.

The Nakamichi is the most interesting one for me right now, but I am very curious about Philips Fidelio B97 that is supposed to release next month, it seems to want to compete at the very high-end.

Personally, the Sennheiser Ambeo is far out of my budget, and is more of an enticing option that true audiophiles would be interested in as a potential replacement for an existing receiver-based system utilizing physical speakers at each respective channel preference/capability (9.2.4 vs 5.1.4 vs blah.blah.blah, etc.) who want to downsize or simplify their system by taking advantage of technological advances that enable an out-of-the-box solution that can satisfy them, or for an inexperienced (read: entry/beginner audiophile) enthusiast looking for an audiophile-in-a-box-for-dummies type solution (no knock on the "for-dummies" piece - I most-definitely consider myself to be in that category only without the monetary means to justify it). I'm not sure where your sweet-spot is for your Subscribers, but it's not necessarily a review that I would be looking at in terms of helping me make a purchasing decision. Though, I have to say I would very much like to see your personal take on this, and any of the others you've listed simply because I really like your review style.
I'm more interested in a budget cap of around $1500 US, and getting the best audio-enthusiast-tempting performance out of that budget, while ensuring an audio-for-dummies out of the box solution that doesn't require calibration, constant tweaking, etc. to get it up to that level. Stability is a major factor for me as well as ease of use, which is primarily why I'm not going for the Samsung options (based on your reviews - thank you!), and why I've also determined the JBL Bar 9.1 is not what I'm looking for. I would love to see you review the Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4 system though, as this soundbar setup falls right in with my personal budget and, on paper, seems to be a competitive option to my current top choice - the LG SN11RG.

I have bought it in London recently and I am pretty happy with it. I have got it for £650. It was 2 times less expensive than HW-Q950T (£1300) and almost 3 times less expensive than Sonos set (£1856). Clearly the best bang for the buck.

Thanks for your honest feedback in these reviews. I'm glad TH-cam popped your videos into my recommends! This review in particularly has won my subscription to you, and I'll honestly say your the 1st Tech Reviewer that I WANT to receive notifications on. I have not been able to find what I believe to be a truly unbiased review on this particular soundbar until this one done by you. All other reviews I've come across make the viewer feel that this bar in particular is the better-buy compared to the LG SN11RG & Samsung Q950T options, and it sounds like it may have some points where it does. Your thorough review has helped me identify key points where it doesn't though, and has helped me make a purchasing decision that I am now confident I'll be happy with. Thanks for thinking of "every angle" and your consumer-forward review that compliments your technical review as well.

@@neverenoughtech I find your reviews to be as in-depth as I would like to be with every product before I make a purchasing decision. You're answering the questions I would ask either at the time of purchase, or ones that I believe I would have asked before buying a product but wouldn't have realized I had prior to having direct experience with that product. I hope that makes sense! I also appreciate the witty dry humor, it's right on par with my own.

I called JBL today because I needed a set of the wall mounts for my satellite speakers as mine were missing from an open box buy. Not only did the person I spoke to set me up with a pair but when I asked about the end caps that are not included in all markets he said that some states have them and he set me up with an order for a pair of them as well.. no charge. Only caveat is they are not in stock so i'll have to wait to get them. Oh and great review :)

I would like to go for the hw-q930 but it is almost 3 years old and I read some reviews that there were some technical issues (backspeakers connection issues, or the bar that suddenly looses sound) Is this true? which one would you take if price are the same?

Have watched all your soundbar reviews - outstanding - thank you for the combination of depth and humor. Opinion question for you - i don’t have space for rears in my living room (couch against the wall). I was considering either the Samsung Q80R or the JBL 9.1. • @neverenoughtech

Disappointing that they are missing some woofers the higher ends are carrying. That being said, I hope you review the Vizio Elevate. It's like the jbl 9.1 in size and ideals, but fills in the gaps, literally and figuratively. The soundbar is only 32 inches, but has 2 woofers and a tweeter per channel, however it rotates the Atmos speakers down for any non Atmos content for a wider soundstage, which gives it 4 extra drivers over everybody else and turns it into a 48" soundbar. Now that's ingenuity! The Elevate will be, or close to soundbar of the year.

Hi Daniel, Found your channel yesterday. Love your content! (and humor)
I need to upgrade my SONOS Beam+satellites (read: run away from SONOS) asap. And I'm considering both the JBL9.1 and LG 11. I am not an audiophile but do enjoy high-quality audio. I would love to take my first steps into 3D audio since I watch 4K Blu-rays. But the LG11 might be too big for my Livingroom. Do you think dialogue is about equally clear in the JBL to the SONOS Beam? And do you think the 3D is sufficient, considering I'm not looking for a home-theatre but more a Livingroom++ setup? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Keep up the great content!

    • @neverenoughtech
      @neverenoughtech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Remco Hekker I am a big Sonos fan. That being said you are not serving yourself all that well on a home theater front with the Sonos Beam. JBL probably works harder to create a 3D effect than Sonos ARC. And JBL is probably the home theater + experience you may be looking for - confident to say it’s a step up from beam + surrounds. For reference I roll with Arc-Sub-surrounds. Admittedly it’s not the most impressive sounding setup in every way but I do find it to be the least frustrating most well rounded solution - marriage material. If you do not have an eARC enabled TV then you will definitely want JBL as you won’t be able to enjoy uncompressed audio (no pass through ports and no DTS support) on the ARC unless you buy a $175 accessory

@@neverenoughtech Thanks for your detailed answer! There is a lot to love with SONOS, I just keep fighting with the montly updates. Somehow always takes me an hour +. Samsung Q950T has seen some pretty deep price cuts ... probably the most serious cinema soundbar out there but has its problems ... don’t plug an Apple TV into it (limited LPCM support) - look for best results with BRays direct plugin

    Hi,
I bought the jbl bar 9.1. My Sony Bravia has ARC port not eARC port. So it can’t not pass the actual dolby atmos sound to soundbar. So I tried to using fire stick but when I connected to soundbar I didn’t get the atmos option to select in Prime as well as Netflix. When i play same things from My tv it’s showing dolby atmos logo but i get dd+ while in Netflix i got Atmos DD+. Pls help me how i can get experience of Dolby Atmos. Shall I returned fire stick?

Great Review! I bought one of these bars and it won't detect the right surround speaker. I've done the firmware update and still no dice; any thoughts other than exchange it?

If a unit acts up from the go I generally exchange and try to start fresh

So if I have an at&t cable box for my parents should I use the hdmi in pass through for that audio then switch back to tv audio for watch apps on the smart tv I’m very new to the sound bar scene

Unless you have uncompressed audio you need to pass (Blu-ray) you can skip the bar pass through. I don’t think att boxes even have uncompressed audio to offer. Netflix doesn’t have uncompressed audio to offer.

When playing dts, dts-hd ma or dts-x the bar upmixes these formats to Neural X. Any idea how can I listen to dts, dts-hd ma or dts-x without nerual-X? Thanks in advance.

I got this bar when it first came out on sale for $800. I can binge all day with the rears disconnected and they still have power the next day. Maybe he got a lemon? Anyway, I've thoroughly enjoyed this bar and the detachable rears are clutch. I will be upgrading to the 1300 soon. It's on sale now for under $1100.

Does anyone know how far away the removable speakers can be away from the central soundbar? 5ft? 30ft outside?

Is the bar not the same arc pass through as the 5.1 soundbar system? My 5.1 passes 4k but doesn’t pass through hdr/dolby vision
