      Bruce said the first time he met the director Sam Raimi was in middle school. He said he was dressed up as Sherlock Holmes and he was playing with dolls in the hallway. So Bruce avoided him until high school or community college. 😂😂....
      This movie and trilogy was very impactful on my imagination. It's so strange, stylish, funny and creative! Sam is one of the most unique directors out there and one of my faves.

    What makes Ash a great character is his character arc through the first two movies. From a rather helpless college student who was too scared to axe a Deadite when it’s down, to a man who chops off his hand and sticks a chainsaw to the stump with no fear whatsoever.
    “Groovy” is a great line because it shows how Ash no longer fears the demons and is ready to truly take the fight to them.

    • @bellicose4653
      @bellicose4653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And also there is the progression of his possession throw out the movies. At the end of the first movie you're left wondering if he is also possessed. In the second movie we see that he is. And in the third we see all that get resolved.

    • @kayla8402
      @kayla8402 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The psychology in the first one is really good, how most random people would likely tend to freeze the hell up and/or panic in various ways at the level of violence, nm outright supernatural crap, they're suddenly seeing. Nm the clear "going round the bend" progression, which might be masked a little by the deliberate humor, but.
      Personally I think there's an fun parallel between the evil dead movies and the mad max movies in terms of first movies and super low budget vs how the tone and lore develop.

    One of my favorite pieces of trivia for this one is during the chase scene, when the "Evil Force" follows Ash all through the cabin. The shot starts outside at the cabin location, then switches to an indoor set during one of the doors Ash slams shut. You can see some of the set is revealed at the top of the frame during the chase. When the Force looses Ash and it backs out of the cabin, the camera briefly passes close to the floor, allowing for a cut back to the real cabin, and the camera moves outside again. The action keeps moving so much in that sequence, it would be really easy to never notice.

    Gosh I love this movie. As a teen I worked at a video store in the late 80s. A bunch of.my coworkers were actually going to a film school in sac. And we would make movies all the time. Evil dead and evil dead 2 were inspirations because they showed what could be done with one camera shots, low budget, and relatively easy to.pull.off effects. Gave hope to a lot of young film makers

    4:42 Okay; so I have no source for this but I know I’ve seen a video on it. According to Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead 2 canonically starts with his body getting flung through the forest after that crazy one shot through the woods and cabin. I’m inclined to agree with him since imo it makes more sense that way.

    • @TBRSchmitt
      @TBRSchmitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TBRSchmitt yeah I found the reference video for it. Since they didn’t own the rights to the first film (which is still crazy to think since they’re the ones who made it) they did a cliff notes version of the first film at the start of Evil Dead 2 with entirely different actors. They didn’t even want to do it but had no choice. It’s a confusing bit since for years a lot of people thought Ash went back to the cabin with an entirely new girlfriend. So in other words, it was studio bullsh*t getting in the way the way it always does. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Of course we had NOT seen Evil Dead but were stoned and didn't much care. In the first 3 minutes we didn't think we should be laughing so much but ended up howling through the whole thing. We rented Evil Dead a few days later and were very disappointed. Good thing Army of Darkness finished the movie franchise strongly...good laughs.

Me sitting watching tv in their living room when my cousin walks in through the front door, back from renting some vhs tapes (yes those were a thing back in the day) and Evil Dead 2 being one of them. He popped it in the vcr and I was completely mesmerized, transfixed, horrified, and amused all at once. I was a kid that was scared of spooky movies but I was always drawn to them. This was an introduction into what the wonderful world of horror could be too, humorous and horrifying. It was unlike anything I’d seen. I’m a life long fan of horror, the magic of it all. And I have my cousin to thank for it.

    I remember renting all three movies from the video store back in the late '90s. I wasn't ready for the tone shift, I wasn't ready for the second to start with a soft remake of the first and I was super confused. The third movie is an outrageous love letter to an entirely different genre and is so full of Easter eggs, too many to explain. Each one of the movies is so different. Different fans of the series will have different favorites between the 3 movies. Most people would agree that the movies get better as they go along which is rare. But there are absolutely die-hard fans who swear that the first one is the best one. And there are absolute diehard fans who swear the second is the best one probably most people's favorite is the third one, but there are absolutely fans who would say a different ones their favorite every time you ask them. I think that's what makes this series the most fun because each movie you are definitely getting something different from the last.
