Like, a sane person doesn't do the things Ash does because they don't believe they can, or because they're too fixated on logical things like being scared. Ash has been so traumatized and put through the ringer that he's just doing his own thing and is beyond the point of caring.
I always thought the same, but the other way around. Ash isn't ashamed to be scared and react because it's how he survives. He knows he has amazing instincts, so he trusts them. But I definitely like your idea, too
Yeah in the series you can see him drop his front a few times and see behind it he's still very much the shy guy that we were first introduced to. Midway through Evil Dead 2 he's at his lowest and after his breakdown he gradually built himself his new persona to survive it all.
@@TheTurinturumbar In this context, it's correct. The thread op is saying that most people wouldn't think to do what Ash would do because instead of doing illogical things like he does, they're doing what we would consider logical, which is being scared. There is a 4th one, a TV-show called Ash vs. Evil Dead. Ran for 3 seasons & it was an awesome show 🤘😃🙂 There's also video game sequels, canon or not, it has Bruce Campbell voicing Ash in all of them. Evil Dead: Hail to the King (PS1, Dreamcast) takes place after Army of Darkness. Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick (PS2, Xbox) takes place after the 1st game. Evil Dead: Regeneration (PS2, Xbox) is more of a What If? sequel, as in what if Ash never went back in time? That one is a great game, love it! 🙂 There's also Evil Dead: The Game, which is more of a multiplayer game really, I don't think there's a single player/story mode on that one.

Decades ago I bought the "Directors Cut" DVD, which has the original ending. It has a plain-ish cover. I wish I had noticed the limited edition directors cut when it came out. It has a very Conan-ish cover.
Me and my friend had an fun idea that tied all the movies together: he's telling the story multiple times to different people, but in every following story he just gets more and more cocky, and he makes himself more of a hero with every telling. I should mention we came up with this well before Ash vs. The Evil Dead came out.
How I wish I could watch this movie again for the first time! If you're craving more Ash, there's an evil dead TV series as well that ran for a few seasons.
Peter Jackson, Director of the Lord of the Rings movies, was a huge fan of this movie. He actually lifted two scenes from this and put them in The Two Towers. First, he copied the scholar putting the gunpowder over the flame to look at it. Worm Tongue does with same thing with the Gun powder Saruman was making. The second scene was when the archers were lined up on the castle walls. One loses his nerve and shoots early. The same thing happens in the Battle of Helm's Deep.
The bald blacksmith with the fumanchu mustache was Dr. Jim Hrisoulas. He is an author on sword making and prop maker for many movies. Back in the 90s he was the most well known swordmaker around. Many modern smiths owe their start from his books.

For my money, Ash Williams has the best lines ever. “I got news for you pal. You ain’t leading but two things right now. Jack and shit. And jack left town.”
That is one of my favorite lines from this entire movie. Even when faced with certain death he's still going to be as Ash as he possibly can. I remember seeing this in theatres and I was laughing hysterically for most of the movie. "Gimme some sugar baby" is another great line from this movie.
For me, the Evil Dead franchise including the remake and TV series are all different but all equally great and on the level of masterpiece in my opinion.
Ash Vs Evil Dead tv series continues this campy dark fun theme... it's really well done, some new characters, some funny backstory, and Bruce Campbell turning the badassdom up to 12.
I love how the skeletons are all obviously props, puppets, and people in costume. It’s not just a matter of practical effects vs cgi, but low budget practical effects and it just adds to the overall charm and campiness of the film.
I recently restored a .22 caliber ryefle (misspelled on purpose) made by Higgins but had a Kmart stamp on the barrel. Friends dad got it for him when he was 7, back in 1986. Ash vs the evil dead series is so cool!! shame it only 3 seasons, was hoping go on and on check it out many years later but has all that Bruce and EVIL DEAD had all in one
Between making Evil Dead and Army of Darkness this same movie team made comedy action TV shows like Hercules, Xena, Brisco County Junior and Jack of All Trades... Bruce Campbell got a lot of work being an action hero in those.
In the alternate ending, he doesn't get his "Hail to the King" moment, instead he wakes up centuries too long with a long beard. Ash has the worst luck at times. In Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness, Zombie Sentry knocks him out of Heaven and his alternate gets his brain eaten by Zombie Howard the Duck. Even when he escapes that Universe he finds himself Marvel Werewolves.
This has got to be one of the most quotable movies. This and They Live are two of my favorite movies. Btw, the guy who asked if he said the words correctly is the director and the demon is an uncredited Sharon Stone
@@gregoryjames174 No, the story is set ten years after the events of the previous game "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" which is set right after "Army of Darkness", and also it starts outside a bar "S-mart" is never shown in the game.
As a kid, I saw this movie before I even knew the other two existed, and it didn't even matter. It made my list of greats! Bruce Campbell is the perfect mix of Rambo, Elvis, and Jim Carey, and I'm so glad you guys got to enjoy this movie on the channel. It's remarkable to look at the budgets for each of these three movies and realize what was accomplished on such tight budgets. The first two were much less expensive to make than this one, but they're all incredible accomplishments!
This movie was on almost constant replay in my dorm room for a year of my college. I can't explain to you how much I love this movie, and how it literally defined my love of the campy horror and sci fi genres of the 90's. It was beyond a pleasure watching it with you guys. The memories it brought back... I am such a nostalgic person, and this movie brings it all flooding back in a wonderful way. Groovy!
One reason I love this movie, is that it probably has the best usage of death screams in film history. They enhance the humour of the battle scenes so damn much! 😀
That was a Xena warcry, the producer of this movie also made Hercules the Legendary Journeys and Xena. He played a couple of small roles in this movie as a random villager and as the store manager. He plays Joxer in Xena.

This is one of the oldest DVDs in my collection of over two thousand, and one of my favorites. I've watched it dozens of times and it's still great. Glad you liked it. I had a blast watching you guys discover this.
When this movie came out and then hit the rental shelf it took on a whole new life. One of the highlights of my youth was downloading the sound pack (WAD Files) from this movie that added Ash's quotes and movie sounds to Doom and Doom II.... Ahhh... the good-ol'-days ! Hail to the King Baby!!!
you guys should continue reacting to all Jordan peele films! knowing you guys reacted to Get out and Us, you should keep going and start with NOPE which in my opinion is a great Jordan peele film that has great cinematography, acting, and so much more.
When my Dad watched this movie in '93, he told me it was like '53's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" with Bing Crosby. We enjoyed each movie's styles!
Ash and the skeleton hands was from the Three Stooges, as was the "Spinach Chin" insult. Klaatu Barada Nikto was from "The Day the Earth Stood Still". It was a joke because the woman Klaatu gave the phrase to couldn't say it correctly, like ash did when Spinach Chin had him repeat it.
26:37 - You may noice that several of the extras were played by the this guy. That's Ted Raimi, part of the original film school trio with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.
He's always falling into muddy water because Sam Raimi thought it was hilarious to throw Bruce Campbell on his face over and over. Basically just a cruel prank to play on your buddy. That's the kind of work environment they had.
When I was in high school working at Blockbuster, my friends and I would watch this movie all the time. I'm pretty sure we had the very same reactions you guys did. This movie is pure awesomeness.
I really hope you will do _Dead Alive (aka Braindead)_ (1992). One of the early Peter Jackson movies and he even appears in the movie briefly. It's just one of those classics, I think you'll laugh your asses off. 😆
If you want more, the series Ash vs Evil Dead is a continuation of these films. Three seasons of Ash Williams fighting the deadites. The tone does shift back to a bit more of the horror elements like Evil Dead 2 and at times is even more gross than anything in the movies but, Ash is still half bad-ass, half moron.
I still use this quote to this very day in random conversations "Maybe. Just maybe my boys can protect the book. Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot." Bruce Campbell personifies cool in this movie.
I totally agree with you guys. Bruce Campbell really... what's the expression, "came into his own?" He was at his peak in this movie. Peak Bruce Campbell! He was insanely cool in this, with all the Loony Toons and Three Stooges stuff going on all around him. It really doesn't get better than Army of Darkness. And it's SO quotable, too. Dozens of amazing lines.
In our lab in Connecticut, we had an undergrad named Mark who was incredibly tall and thin. My friends used to enjoy wrestling for some reason, and they would delight in tossing Mark around like a rag-doll. When this movie hit the theatre, all of us went to see it. During the battle scene, when Ash broke the skeleton over his knee, my room-mate yelled out, 'Hey! It's a whole army of Marks!' We all laughed, including Mark, who was the pretty good sport about the whole thing.

Between making Evil Dead and Army of Darkness this same movie team made comedy action TV shows like Hercules, Xena, Brisco County Junior and Jack of All Trades... Bruce Campbell got a lot of work being an action hero in those.
He was in the Hercules and Xena Warrior Princess shows???
@@ChezaWR He was Autolycus
@@ApocalypticHamTacos I have to look this up, I haven't watched since I was like 13-14.
Brisco County Junior, God I haven't thought of that show in forever. Think I'll have a BCJ marathon this weekend lol. Thanks for the memory job bro.
@@ChezaWR I know for sure he was in Xena but I don't remember him in Hercules.
9:23 This is my BoomStick!
27:53 Hail to the King Baby Baby!
Awesome reaction guys! Now you need to watch the Ash Vs. Evil Dead series
Groovy! Please watch Ash Vs The Evil Dead series starring Bruce Campbell. It’s an awesome continuation of the story.
You should watch the Ash vs the evil dead series . Bruce Campbell is brilliant in it .
This has got to be one of the most quotable movies. This and They Live are two of my favorite movies.
Btw, the guy who asked if he said the words correctly is the director and the demon is an uncredited Sharon Stone
You guys need to react to Ash vs. Evil Dead now. You'll love him in that!!!
0ctoKrool There's a really fun video game that was released for the PS2 called "Evil Dead: A fist full of Boom Stick"🤣
Seconded! I love that game. In large part cuz of the crap he says while idle.😅 🤷♀️ oh and the music.
It also takes place right after Army of Darkness where you start from the SMart. It's so fun.
@@gregoryjames174 No, the story is set ten years after the events of the previous game "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" which is set right after "Army of Darkness", and also it starts outside a bar "S-mart" is never shown in the game.
@@justindenney-hall5875 No you're right, I was thinking of Hail to the King. I forgetted(IYKYK) ...it Has been 20 years since I played it!🤣
This is my favourite of the three.
Solid comedy movie.
Oooh speaking of Bruce Campbell and Elvis, these guys would Love Bubba Hotep. Such an awesome hidden gem.
@cruzcamel I keep hearing that. I need to watch it, too.
Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.
YOU GOT THAT!
😂this is the best comedy horror movie ever!
Omg guys. This was my intro to the series and I have loved it since I was 10. So happy you guys enjoyed it too
I haven't seen it yet, but Bruce Campbell plays a geriatric Elvis Presley in Bubba Ho-tep
'Hail to the king, baby.'
*Want to see Rami do a cool 90s superhero film, with Liam Neeson; watch DARKMAN*
Groovy!
Boom stick.
Also, there's an urban legend that this is actually based on a true story.
@@John_Locke_108 I believe it
The guy at S-mart that asks if he said the words right this time is the directors brother.
They came out with a series a few years ago. It's pure gold. Worth a watch
He plays Joxer in Xena.
i believe that you are referring to ted raimi, sam raimi's brother. ted has been in most of sam's movies, at least as a cameo. ted was also on ""sea quest", one of my favorite shows when i was a kid.
This is one of the oldest DVDs in my collection of over two thousand, and one of my favorites.
I've watched it dozens of times and it's still great.
Glad you liked it. I had a blast watching you guys discover this.
I freaking love you guys, you make my days much better watching your vids. Legendary work you guys are doing. One Love my Brothas. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Ash is perfect. Hopefully you will see the tv series sometime
I could literally watch an entire movie about just the skeletons. They're so funny.
Btw, there's an alternate ending to this movie you can see on YT.
Bruce Campbell did everything he could to make this movie great and it worked! So badass
9:11 "SWORD BOYYYY!" is a running joke with my family, the way he just kicks the dude to get the sword out always makes us die laughing
When this movie came out and then hit the rental shelf it took on a whole new life. One of the highlights of my youth was downloading the sound pack (WAD Files) from this movie that added Ash's quotes and movie sounds to Doom and Doom II.... Ahhh... the good-ol'-days ! Hail to the King Baby!!!
well hello mister fancy pants
It’s nice to see someone who absolutely loves this movie for the first time. That’s how I felt at 15
First R rated movie i saw in the theater...i was 9 and i begged my mom..."Greatest thing ever"
you guys should continue reacting to all Jordan peele films! knowing you guys reacted to Get out and Us, you should keep going and start with NOPE which in my opinion is a great Jordan peele film that has great cinematography, acting, and so much more.
He’s also his brother. He also played the Henrietta deadite in the second movie.
He's always falling into muddy water because Sam Raimi thought it was hilarious to throw Bruce Campbell on his face over and over. Basically just a cruel prank to play on your buddy. That's the kind of work environment they had.
You´ll be glad to know that a reboot of army of darkness is in the works, and some say bruce campbell would be in it.
When I was in high school working at Blockbuster, my friends and I would watch this movie all the time. I'm pretty sure we had the very same reactions you guys did. This movie is pure awesomeness.
10/10 for real.
“What’s that on your face?”
(Pile of dirt smacks him in the forehead)
😂😂😂😂
You want more? Mmmkay.....Netflix series Ash Vs Evil Dead. 3 seasons.... Its just......groovy
I first saw this when I was 12 years old. Rented the VHS, still kills me after all these years.
Dozens of amazing lines.
so glad you liked it!!! i really love it as well. the series is super fun. bruce campbell is amazing in the Evil Dead TV show as well
In our lab in Connecticut, we had an undergrad named Mark who was incredibly tall and thin.
