So glad you're watching this. You should probably watch Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell. It's not Evil Dead related. But it was Raimi's return to his horror roots after his big budget Spider-Man films. It does not disappoint and it has that great Raimi style.
I think it was pirating and also the streaming service that got it canceled. I knew no one who had starz. But when it was got released on Netflix is was trending. Oh well at least it didn't over stay its welcome. And no spoilers it ended very well too!
@@nebulous8389 I remember going to Comicon when the first season was about to drop and the second season was already confirmed, they had a whole Evil Dead cabin outside and there were ads everywhere (I even got a cap) then a year later and the show was already struggling. I do think Starz was probably the best place for the show considering the producers relationship with the channel but truth is Starz is just not big enough.

I've watched several Bruce Campbell interviews where he mentioned that Starz was chosen because they said they could do whatever they wanted in the show with no restrictions. In later interviews after the show was canceled he mentions the pirating and how many people didn't even know about Starz. I wasn't even aware of the show until after it came out on Bluray. Currently they're talking about bringing it back in an animated series picking up right where the show left off. It's not exactly what we want, but considering his age it would be the only way to get Bruce Campbell back to play the role of Ash. He's all for doing the voice so hopefully they can get Dana DeLorenzo and Ray Santiago back as well.

It got cancelled after season 3, and I still feel it's because of Starz not promoting it enough. It was a show that persevered just because of the hardcore fans. I was actually surprised it got 3 seasons. I was expecting it's cancel from season one because it's such a niche show from movies that were from over 20 years prior. I wish it would have had more seasons but I'm glad I got so much more than I expected to get.

Sam Raimi produced Xena, so he has a long history with Lucy Lawless. Bruce Campbell did a few episodes, and she was on a few episodes of Burn Notice with him.
Rob Tapert the other producer of the Evil Dead movies, this show, and Xena, is also married to Lucy Lawless. Rob and Sam Raimi met in college, and Sam and Bruce go even further back to high school.
The Evil Dead is all about pouring as much blood as possible on Bruce Campbell, and the show continues that, but Pablo and Kelly get in on the action too.
I love both their characters and Lucy Lawless's. To go further would reveal Spoilers but I loved all of the other important characters this series included. My biggest joy was watching one from the movies who had perfect chemistry with Bruce Campbell and made every scene he was in solid gold. The one bit that sticks in my mind is when Bruce volunteered to drive resulting in the other (drunk) to agree as it allowed him to hydrate by drinking more beer. This series is absolutely perfect. The other bit that sticks with me is Bruce Campbell experiencing a toasted Pop Tart for the first time as if he never connected the photo on the box and the "Pop" in Pop Tart with the ability to toast them. This is a GLORIOUS series and one I will be re-watching every October along with the trilogy WITH the commentary track one because it's so much funnier.
Honestly one of my favorite TV shows!!! So campy! So gory! So Evil Deady!!! Just amazing! The Chin in back and better than ever...wish it would have gone a few more seasons because it was......Groovy!
If the show hadve been on Netflix from the beginning I'm sure t would've gotten a bigger audience , because most people in America had no idea what Starz was & there were people illegally downloading ithe show as well (according to Bruce Campbell)

As someone who watched this show each week when it came out and waited for each season, YES, this show is amazing. Am glad so many reactors are finding it and enjoying it. Every episode moves fast and is non-stop, they leave you wanting more even the finale. (The series finale in S3, you will see, even tho it wasn't as good as S1 as a whole, it ends perfectly. They knew they were ending so they did it right.)
It's important to note that once again they were not able to acquire the rights to all of the movies, so there are some aspects of Ash's past that are inexplicably ignored. However by season 3 they had managed to get the rights to everything.
Absolutely love this show one of my faves of all time! Ash got probably the best 2 sidekicks you can ask for! I still can't get over how hilarious Bruce Campbell is throughout the entire series! Bruce was also the executive producer on this probably another reason why it was so well done.
Oh man, Sam screaming at the slow reveal of the Deadite in episode 1 was glorious lol, I'm all in watching it with you guys, and yep, that IS Lucy Lawless (Xena Warrior Princess) in all her glory.

Ash is an absolute legend! Bruce Campbell's facial expressions are priceless. Pablo and Kelly were great casting. And yay for all the blood. Watching Samantha's face was hilarious.
What's infuriating is it definitely holds up all the way through season 3. Seriously the show is incredible and it's a shame that it didn't continue. Having said that I am super blessed that we even got it it was a dream come true for lifelong fans.
Personally, the fact that I want a season 4 means that it stopped at the perfect moment. There's nothing worse than a show going until it gets bad. Better to burn out, than to fade away.

I knew that you'd love it, but you seem to be enjoying it even more than I expected, which is fun to see. You'll be glad to hear that the series stays consistent through all three seasons. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes has the audience scores for each at 94%, 94% and 95%. So, don't worry about the quality dipping. I think that its cancellation was just a matter of its very positive reception not translating into enough viewers (and, most importantly, new subscribers) to justify its cost. Fortunately, it's now on Netflix so that more people, like you, can discover it.

I’ve just finished binge watching series one…..I have never been so grossed out and yet laughing my ass off at the same time! Watching along with you guys is going to be so much fun…..I have a feeling the TBR Schmitt logo is going to be making quite a few appearances!
Imagine being a fan since the 80's, seeing Evil Dead in the theater, than ED II, and then you're one of about 100 people in the theater in 1992 watching Army of Darkness. Knowing the brilliance and fun of these movies/characters and then having to wait almost 30 years for this Ash vs Evil Dead series. SO GLAD they nailed it with the TV show and put a proper cap end onto the series for fans.. Hoping they can do the same with Firefly someday, but am not holding my breath.
So the wait after you guys went through the trilogy has finally paid off. I'm almost as excited as when this show was first released to see your reactions. It's super entertaining.

Before anyone roasts me for this: I love the show. I bought the box set. Watched it several times. Great addition to the Ash Williams saga. IMO The first episode was perfect. It was scary. It was funny. It had cartoony amounts of fake blood. It was true to the lore. It was everything I wanted from this show. The rest of the season... I didn't like as much. I wrote it off as the subsequent director(s) just aren't as good as Sam Rami. Turns out, there's more to it. On a podcast, Bruce Campbell talked about the series. When Rami directed the first episode, he wanted to make it perfect. (First impressions and all.) In the process, he went over time (and presumably over budget). That left rest of the season hamstrung. They had to crunch pretty hard to get the rest of the episodes finished on time. Knowing that now, I think it's pretty impressive that the first season was as good as it was. I don't think we'll be getting any more AvED. When it was brought up, Campbell didn't sound thrilled with the idea of doing a series of any type. He's happy working on passion projects and making appearances.

Raimi, Campbell and Lawless had all worked together previously on Hercules, The legendary Journeys and Xena Warrior Princess. Sam Raimi produced both shows and Bruce Campbell was a regular recurring character in both Hercules and Xena. He played Autolycus, The King of Thieves.

Yes, that was indeed Lucy Lawless (Xena). Her real life hubby, Rob Tapert, is a long time friend of Sam Raimi, going as far back as being a producer for the original Evil Dead movie. Because of this, Lucy tends to do cameos in a lot of Raimi’s productions, including his first Spider-Man movie (the punk rocker chick - “A guy with eight hands …. could be fun”)
The opening house scene with Ash being Ash in the previous really did a great job of setting the shows tone. As goofy as Army of Darkness and as Terrifying as Evil Dead 1.

This show is a perfect example of fan service and making a modern version that is true to its roots. Remake happy Hollywood could learn a ton from this one.
Xena: Warrior Princess (starring Lucy Lawless) was co-created by Sam Raimi. Both Bruce Campbell and Sam's brother Ted Raimi appear in some episodes of it. Ted Raimi was also in Evil Dead 1+2 and Army of Darkness. Most notably as the possessed Henrietta in Evil Dead 2.
Probably my favorite show of all time! From the first episode to the last one of the third season, it is solid gold (and gore)! Looking forward to watching your every reaction as you go through them all!
@@sindelmybelle2215 It's not as good but it is considered one of the rare good remakes that has for the most part been embraced by the ED fandom (even though I personally don't like it nearly as much as the originals).
According to the commentary track, the shirt the one girl's partner wears and the antler he's impaled on, along with a lot of other props you'll see later, are actually the same exact props from the original Evil Dead they recovered in a studio warehouse for this film. A lot of them were sold at an auction a while back, but it's really cool to think someone sifted through the lot to find things they can use during this show, even if it wasn't the super obvious stuff like the Necronomicon itself. Also, it's really cool that you're planning to make time for the reboot. It's very different and manages to be the odd one out even with the drastic difference between the first and second films, but it's probably my favorite entry for how it really feels like one director paying homage to another.
All the stuff that has been remade and revisited in the last 20 years this is the best. The ending of the series is the best send off for an iconic movie character.
When watching the 2013 version, there is a short end credit scene. This show is the combination of all 3 films. But Evil Dead 2, they only use the 2nd and final act of part 2.
I watched two seasons of this and totally forgot about watching the 3rd. Think I'll hold off to watch along with you guys. Fun show; great reactions. Unfortunate that this requires so many black box censors, but TH-cam gonna TH-cam and I get it. Keep 'em coming!

Awesome serie. It didn't make too high in the ratings sadly and lasted for only 3 seasons but at least the end of the third season is a fitting closer. The whole serie is just such fun capturing the intense gore of the first movie, the humour of the second and the slapstick of Army of Darkness. You guys will thouroughly enjoy this show. My favorite quote of the serie (from the second season): "We gave peace a chance, now it's time for war."

Imagine being a fan since the 80's, seeing Evil Dead in the theater, than ED II, and then you're one of about 100 people in the theater in 1992 watching Army of Darkness. Knowing the brilliance and fun of these movies/characters and then having to wait almost 30 years for this Ash vs Evil Dead series. SO GLAD they nailed it with the TV show and put a proper cap end onto the series for fans.. Hoping they can do the same with Firefly someday, but am not holding my breath.
This show cracks me up to no end. This is the best version of Ash--every episode has multiple one-liners for the ages.
So the wait after you guys went through the trilogy has finally paid off. I'm almost as excited as when this show was first released to see your reactions. It's super entertaining.

Before anyone roasts me for this: I love the show. I bought the box set. Watched it several times. Great addition to the Ash Williams saga.
IMO The first episode was perfect. It was scary. It was funny. It had cartoony amounts of fake blood. It was true to the lore. It was everything I wanted from this show. The rest of the season... I didn't like as much. I wrote it off as the subsequent director(s) just aren't as good as Sam Rami. Turns out, there's more to it.
On a podcast, Bruce Campbell talked about the series. When Rami directed the first episode, he wanted to make it perfect. (First impressions and all.) In the process, he went over time (and presumably over budget). That left rest of the season hamstrung. They had to crunch pretty hard to get the rest of the episodes finished on time. Knowing that now, I think it's pretty impressive that the first season was as good as it was.
I don't think we'll be getting any more AvED. When it was brought up, Campbell didn't sound thrilled with the idea of doing a series of any type. He's happy working on passion projects and making appearances.
That was definitely Lucy lawless (aka Xena). I'm not going to say any more than that. Raimi, Campbell and Lawless had all worked together previously on Hercules, The legendary Journeys and Xena Warrior Princess. Sam Raimi produced both shows and Bruce Campbell was a regular recurring character in both Hercules and Xena. He played Autolycus, The King of Thieves.

The best was the Diner episode. Watching Dana de Lorenzo go ape shit on a deadite while ash and Pablo admire her in awe was MAGIC
Yes, that was indeed Lucy Lawless (Xena). Her real life hubby, Rob Tapert, is a long time friend of Sam Raimi, going as far back as being a producer for the original Evil Dead movie. Because of this, Lucy tends to do cameos in a lot of Raimi’s productions, including his first Spider-Man movie (the punk rocker chick - “A guy with eight hands …. could be fun”)
The opening house scene with Ash being Ash in the previous really did a great job of setting the shows tone. As goofy as Army of Darkness and as Terrifying as Evil Dead 1.

This show is a perfect example of fan service and making a modern version that is true to its roots. Remake happy Hollywood could learn a ton from this one.

Xena: Warrior Princess (starring Lucy Lawless) was co-created by Sam Raimi. Both Bruce Campbell and Sam's brother Ted Raimi appear in some episodes of it. Ted Raimi was also in Evil Dead 1+2 and Army of Darkness. Most notably as the possessed Henrietta in Evil Dead 2.

People love ed for bruce and its fun campiness. Remakes,reboots are nowhere as good. You should know that.

According to the commentary track, the shirt the one girl's partner wears and the antler he's impaled on, along with a lot of other props you'll see later, are actually the same exact props from the original Evil Dead they recovered in a studio warehouse for this film. A lot of them were sold at an auction a while back, but it's really cool to think someone sifted through the lot to find things they can use during this show, even if it wasn't the super obvious stuff like the Necronomicon itself.
Also, it's really cool that you're planning to make time for the reboot. It's very different and manages to be the odd one out even with the drastic difference between the first and second films, but it's probably my favorite entry for how it really feels like one director paying homage to another.

All the stuff that has been remade and revisited in the last 20 years this is the best. The ending of the series is the best send off for an iconic movie character.

When watching the 2013 version, there is a short end credit scene. This show is the combination of all 3 films. But Evil Dead 2, they only use the 2nd and final act of part 2.
I watched two seasons of this and totally forgot about watching the 3rd. Think I'll hold off to watch along with you guys. Fun show; great reactions. Unfortunate that this requires so many black box censors, but TH-cam gonna TH-cam and I get it. Keep 'em coming!

Awesome serie.
It didn't make too high in the ratings sadly and lasted for only 3 seasons but at least the end of the third season is a fitting closer.
The whole serie is just such fun capturing the intense gore of the first movie, the humour of the second and the slapstick of Army of Darkness.
You guys will thouroughly enjoy this show.
My favorite quote of the serie (from the second season): "We gave peace a chance, now it's time for war."
