That was absolutely brilliant! If you replace the pen with a permanent marker you could use it instead of a laser printer to make pcb's.

If you guys still facing problems and not getting proper drawings try applying the following.
1. While creating gcode in inkscape take a 80mmx80mm draw area and put you picture at the top-right quadrant.
2. Still if the drawing is not proper, the cause can be inadequate torque due to microstepping. Change the motor mode to Interleave (which will also give you neat drawings) to get much better torque and the drawing would be fine.
3. While using Interleave mode try reducing the motor speed, so jitters (that might occur while drawing curves) would be minimum.
These three changes made my pictures very very neat.

bro, this is made from tray ejecting gear motor system of an old desktop PC DVD writer. try to buy an old desktop PC DVD writer and dissemble it to get this unit.you will see what i'm talking about

for people who are getting scribbling like drawings from DVD step-motor CNC plotter machine, i give you correct and proven changes for proper out put, try it and get corrected!
(01) most people with "baby scribbling drawing output"due to low Watt power supply(less than 10W)
SO give 5V 2Amp power supply - your cnc need (@least 10W power input) ,if not this will correct try with 12V, 1Amp power supply but this will heat up your DVD step-motors and 3 ICs of L293D so use fan to heat loss in 12v power supply.
IF STILL SCRIBBLING DO CHANGES GIVEN BELLOW
these changes should be done in Arduino CODES you upload to your CNC
(02) StepMilimeterMax - for each 1cm of your maximum length or width of drawing area this value should be multiplied by 25,
my cnc drawing area is 5cm X 5cm square shaped area, so my StepMilimeterMax is 5cm x25 =125 (every one who made CNC with normal DVD step-motors has nearly 5cm x 5cm area,so StepMilimeterMax =125)
if StepMilimeterMax is 125 output is BIG pictures and letters WITH OVER FLOWING EDGES FROM 5cmx5cm
(03) these factors given bellow should be in given values for 5cmx5cm drawing area
(a) Line buffer -should be 512 ( if >512 effect is #)
(b) XSetSpeed & YSetSpeed -should be 200 (if >200 effect is #)
(c) Char Buffer -should be 64 (if >64 effect is #)
#- unusual Hum and vibration from your DVD step-motors.
(04) Line Delay - should be 50
if this is 0 - left half of your picture/text write on whole 5cm x5cm area and right half is over write on same 5cm x 5cm area
if this is 50 - no OVER LAPPING
(05) pen servo Delay- should be 100
if >100 - at the point of same text or picture section write by your CNC more than once, second and next writings are not write on first writing so this make "BLUR EFFECT"
CORRECT YOUR ARDUINO CODES ACCORDING TO ERROR TYPE GIVEN ABOVE AND GET SUCCEEDED AND WRITE YOUR COMMENTS!

can the motor circuit can be used with audrino nano
In simple words no you cant use l293d motor drive with nano
if you are pro with electronics you can use by doing some engineering
It's amazingly challenging to find used drives. Even with an electronics recycling business literally down the road.
WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT EASILY .ITS ALRIGHT BUT SOME SAMPLES DOESNT WORK AND I COULDNT CREATE A G CODE,BUT THATS FINE I AM HAPPY AND I WILL TRY MY BEST TO FIX THE PROBLEMS.THANKS A LOT DUDE

my cnc plotter is making very small drawing and its start making the drawing from the right side as in th video it is starting from the left side.
is there any problem in coding or fabrication please rply.
I have some issues with the cnc. When i try to print something made by me in inkscape it don`t respond as expected (maybe some setting when it saves, or something software related) but when i use the samples of the driver works fine. Any suggestion?

I've found two DVD players with stepper motors, when i check the stroke of the steppers i get 40mm each. This would mean the drawing would only be 40 x 40mm but your drawings seem bigger than that! Am I doing something wrong?
hi, we made a CNC plotter following instruction given, but the printer does not work and we get error with the Gcode. "Command not regconized : M17" which to our understanding is for enabling the stepper motors. The servor responds but stepper motors does not respond. Can you please suggest what could have gone wrong and where we can start to debug or fix this.

IF only vertical or horizontal line are making means one of your stepper not working
everything works very well and normally but when running with gcode code does not match the picture on the computer, if there is whatshap i can contact please share i want to send the result image

Hi! I built this machine, only my problem is that only half of my own gcode is visible. He would draw the other half, but the stepping motors would whimper in the end. Size okay, step / mm okay. What's the problem? thanks for the help!

I built my own CNC and prepare every thing but at the last step with processing the problem appear. when i run the program it gives me this message (Could not parse -1 for --display) but i cotinuo and press P button and do add a G-code file after that the programe start to work in the console (lower black box ) until to finish but there is any move on the motor .
what's the wrong??

Hi thanks gor the great explanation! I did tge exact steps and now i have 2 questions! My printing size is 30mm W X 40 mm H how to adjust the printing size in GTRL , also how to set zero point on the table ?! Where the pen should be when the machine started ?!

You no need to do any thing in GTRL , set the page size in Inkscape from document and properties option

You are doing a great job, finally I learned something worth doing.
I assambled this machine and ran it, it is working just fine for the
Gcode you provided as samples.
However I am having problem running Gcodes generated by my self.
I am using inkscape ver 0.48 (as you suggested)
I have added "inkscape-unicorn-master" extention.
I have watched all the available videos on how to generate gcodes
using inkscape for cup cake cnc machine.
Now the problem:
When I generate the Gcode for any image or text, Gcodes are generated
but part of it lies out side the printing area. (although I put all the
text or image inside the working are (that is the square box).
I am using grblGuru simulation software for simulation, in which your Gcode samples are
running just fine but my gcodes are out side the working area, (though the gcode size is with in 40x40 mm).
I also keep the document property size in less than 40 mm x 40 mm.
FYI I am using win 10, 64 bit operating system.
Kindly help as soon as possible
this is the most common problem even i face it every time i dont have any specific solution but i do a trick to overcome this, first you draw a 30 x 30 mm square in inkscape place exactly in center of working area and print this square, now see which portion in lies outside suppose your top right portion (i face problem in this area) is out of reach and not printing so drag the square in bottom left corner dont worry if square goes outside the working are generate gcode and print again now you will notice major of part which is previously not printing can able to print now repeat the same process until you satisfied as soon as you get what you want save that file as a tamplet in inkscape for you future use... thanks
