super detailed answer from someone who has done hella research and has the plan ready: $6-15k. Depends how long you want it to last and how reliable u want it to be. a JDL Turbo Kit can be like 4500ish on minimum requirements. And you need a tune, which can run around $600-1k. Oil catch cans or an AOS (air & oil separater), and that's just about it. Now, a SAFE build, you NEED tires. And if you want tires, you need wheels. 245-255 are good sizes. Michilen pilot sport 4 S will prob be your best option just due to their outstanding grip in dry and wet (this tire is really only prime in states where you get minimal to no snow) Idk much about all season tires, I live in AZ. Wheels and tires can be anywhere from $1200 used to 3 or 4k brand new w warranties and stuff Flex fuel kit to run ethonal (e85 and stuff), will be about $500+ a clutch if you are going to be above 300whp, which most people will be (i haven't priced my clutch out yet as I haven't tested clutches to see where I want my bite point to be) SUSPENSION is insanely important!!! This will greatly improve your handling and keep the car straight. without tires and handling, you WILL NOT be able to drive the car very hard. You can do pulls once you're in 3rd or 4th gear but they will likely be light. you will have to ease into full throttle or you will lose traction. and if you're driving w safety stuff on, like traction and stability control, it will basically just cut power to the engine/shmack ya wheels for a sec and stabilize the car. and you will need some exhaust mods, you should be good with an overpipe and axelback MINIMUM, but for best airflow and obviously sound, get a full exhaust. Now, this is my build priced out Suspension: Fortune Auto 500 w/ swift springs ($2k) Wheels undecided but around 1200-1600 for a set) but get 17x9 +35 or +40 if you want to track it, 18x9 or 9.5 +35 (+ is offset) Tires: Michilen Pilot sport 4 S in 255/35 (you can get 245 too, im just maximizing grip. you cannot go above 255 on stock body. So ill be running 255/35 R 18 Exhaust: I have a JDL 2.5" ultra quiet front/overpipe combo ($850ish) and a nameless 3" catback ($1400) Verus AOS is about $390 Turbo Kit: MY specs on my JDL Turbo kit is about 5700, I'm going equal length and recirculated with thermal coating on for heat dampening on the pipes. Flex Fuel: I got a deal on my flex fuel kit and tune for $900 and it included an ecutek license that you'll need for the car to be tuned, its a one time thing. I don't think I missed anything? But yea, can get pretty expensive if you wanna do it once and do it right. Do it safely and reliably

It does become pricy though when you want to add more power but I feel like it’s worth it, especially if you love the platform. Also are you running an AOS on your SC kit? Love the video Chris! ❤
apart from crazy body kits and exterior mods done to frs brz n 86, ive always wanted to see highly modded interiors and different types of interior styles u could do with this fun car
I just finished boosting my brz, kit was used from a friend he only ran for 500 miles. $2500 for kit, 3bar/titanium wrap, turbo blanket was $200 and $950 for the tune, and then probably $100 on parts store runs hahaha. So right around 4k
Hella good timing of this video bro, I’m really tempted to get a brz or the 2022 brz 🤔 gotta come see you so I can make a decision 🙌🏾 ( can’t wait to see what new part is on the brz 👀)
Hey Chris just wanted to know, is this turbo kit carb legal? If not how do you get around emission inspections? I always consider keeping my BRZ to code when it comes to Mods Being that we both live in Southern California, state refs and smog checks are the last thing I want to worry about but would love all the benefits of adding some power to the build. Appreciate you sharing this with us and would love to get to know more about your build someday ! Thanks again.
Yo if you don’t mind me asking, how did you boost and do everything to your car working at Pizza Hut? I’d like to know any tips or tricks that might help me save up to boost mine one day.
Okay need everyone’s input for as wide data as possible: at what point do these engines start to blow? Transmission? It seems, for any FI kit on stock PSI, E85, nets you in the low to mid 300’s. Is that accurate,
Gonna pass it. I could take that shitload money (to me) and put it for a down payment for GR Supra. But I appreciate your honesty about prices and such, so many get caught just buying the kit and not the supporting mods.
Are they really that cheap in America? In Australia an 86 is about 25k AUD for a decent one, with an additional 10-15k for all the supporting mods and your boost kit and tune, that’s for a pricey one to. So you’re looking at 40k vs a new Supra which is 90k. Not to mention a boosted 86 has more power and less weight than a Supra
Hey @Chris Borges. So I’m thinking about buying this 2014 Scion frs, is has a vortech super charger like yours and has already been tuned. Is there anything I should be looking at before I buy. I don’t know much about superchargers and I’ve been doing a lot of research. So far it seems they can be reliable depending on your driving style. Question bc for some reason I’m confused. Did tuning it with the delicious flash and go tune you showed get it to 324hp on E-85 or did that just get it running right and then you got it tuned again for more power by delicious tuning
Should install an ethanol gauge. Shows if you actually have 85 n such. And I ordered s1 3p, 18x11-28 and 18x13-33 but i like the centre cap you got, what kind is that so i can order it!? Thanks man
I’m looking into boosting my brz but I’m not sure if I would need other mods (upgraded radiator, oil cooler, etc.). Do you run any of these other mods with your vortech kit? Not worried about drive train I recently put in a stage 2 exedy clutch kit and I won’t be doing dig pills so no need for axles lol but if someone could help me out I would really appreciate it 🙏🏼
It’s always recommended to have supporting mods when you’re boosting - if you have the money to buy the kit , you have the money to do it the right way
Hey man! So I’m actually running a mishimoto oil cooler that I forgot to mention and also a catch can is recommended. I’m still on Exedy OEM clutch and stock axles.
You should make a video on how you kept the cars reliability with almost 140k miles. My car has been through 2 engines and on my 3rd one now, with only 35k miles. I do the maintenance and all of that, change oil every 3k miles and just confused. Car doesn't have warrenty anymore, so next engine is out of my pocket 😂
@@Flunoir I ha taken it to the track 3 or 4 times & also taken it to a few drift events throughout the past 4 years, but on a daily basis I actually take very good care of the car. I keep the playing for the track because of a few things that have happened with friends and them losing there life. So yes I have taken it to a track 3 maybe 5 times, and also drifting the same (3 or 5 times) but that is nothing near enough to cause me to go through 2 engines already.
@@Flunoir Mostly I think I just got unlucky..... The first time the engine blew they just repaired it, the 2nd time the engine blew they put an entire new engine in the car and it has been running amazing without any issues the past 15k miles. So I may have just gotten unlucky, but still Id like to know if I am not doing something. I just change oil every 3k, check the fluids every month or 2, do 6 month check ups with mechanic and wash the car a lot because I am a car guy that likes a clean car lmao
@@DanDoesGame I also think you got unlucky. These cars are solid and reliable even if you track as long as you take very good care of them. Glad to hear you’re doing better now.
Hey guys I’m trying to get into cars and I am not sure where to start learning any advice? I’m a younger guy also trying to get his first car and turn that into my project car any ideas?
Mine costs 13k dollars ( turbo , supporting mods, mags and tires as well ). Mine is so simple outside just rims and tires nothing else other than that. It was professionally tuned and hit 329 at the wheel in pump gas ( it's also an Automatic tranny ). So far I'm having trouble on starting it, it takes me 3-6x starting it. For me if you would daily use ur frs/86/brz go for e85 and fbo, turbo/supercharger are the one who has a lot of money and time 😆😆😆. Remember you'll sacrifice the enjoy on handling, after I turbo my car it felt really more heavy ( even though its now faster). Make sure if you're planning to turbo ur 86/brz/frs , you should have an another car HAHAHA.
The FA20 has direct and port injectors. It can be tricky to tune cold/hot start on them. It's probably the injector scaling causing your issues. Your tuner may be able to clear that up for you.
turboing these cars or supercharging, if u go above like 340hp you ARE going to blow your shit up 99.99% of the time it wont take long. i know about 12-14 people who turbo'ed these and NONE of them lasted long. they're all running fully built engines only making like ~400 , or a swap. these engines are notoriously super weak. supercharging is definitely the way to go. and methanol for cooling.
@@mresab1997 supercharged I was using the Jackson racing kit, but I had the high boost pulley and I was running flex fuel. My last Dyno showed 288hp/222tq, but I do think I was closer to 300 when it let go because delicious tuning had been tweaking my tune, and it felt faster to me. Failure was a snapped rod due to fatigue. Currently it's built with a JDL turbo kit, last Dyno was 377hp/322tq.
Kid everything you do looks real good on the car body and the power but man can you at least show ur car a bit of more love and clean the motor so it can match the outside .just saying 🤷🏻♂️ just a good advise .sweet ride 💪🏼

@@justinclaiborne1716 oh I see thanks. I'm clueless abt that but thanks hahahaha. I'll go tell my tuner then.
When is the ls swap happening? 👀
Sheeeeesh 👀🔥
I’m buying the drip but you gotta get that sti at 100k subs 👀
100k gift to y’all 👀
turboing these cars or supercharging, if u go above like 340hp you ARE going to blow your shit up 99.99% of the time it wont take long. i know about 12-14 people who turbo'ed these and NONE of them lasted long. they're all running fully built engines only making like ~400 , or a swap. these engines are notoriously super weak.
supercharging is definitely the way to go. and methanol for cooling.
So even with fully built engines they blow??
More so when running E85, or less likely when using strictly 91?
💯💯💯💯💯
I supercharged mine and it threw a rod. Ended up going fully built engine with a turbo and I hope it lasts longer this time.
@@justinclaiborne1716 what stats were you pushing when that happened?
@@mresab1997 supercharged I was using the Jackson racing kit, but I had the high boost pulley and I was running flex fuel. My last Dyno showed 288hp/222tq, but I do think I was closer to 300 when it let go because delicious tuning had been tweaking my tune, and it felt faster to me. Failure was a snapped rod due to fatigue. Currently it's built with a JDL turbo kit, last Dyno was 377hp/322tq.
Yo what the hell you doing in my town in Bonita 😂
i think 8k just to get around 100 extra 🐎s isn’t really worth it, i would rather go turbo, it’s cheaper and you pull way more.
I definitely wanna try out turbo!
FRS God 👐
10k for 300 hp is insane
very worth track
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love that F*********** car so much and it ain’t even mines 😂
Hahaha means a lot man! 😂❤️
@@chris_borges def worth every penny for me to build something like that . I really want to know total for everything wheels , bags etc 🧐
You stop. Stop it now gonna make me boost my 86
Kid everything you do looks real good on the car body and the power but man can you at least show ur car a bit of more love and clean the motor so it can match the outside .just saying 🤷🏻♂️ just a good advise .sweet ride 💪🏼
Definitely needs an engine bay detail 💯
