  • Today we have our customer Johnny's 2023 Toyota GR86 in the shop for the infamous RTV in the oil pick-up issue, and good thing we caught it when we did! We also wanted to give this ride a test drive/review as this 86 has a HKS Supercharger kit installed which really intrigued us! Tell us what you think!

    RTV isnt the issue it the oil pressure drop in right hand turns...even if the main oil pick up vent is clogged it has side ports to circumvent the issue. There is no 100% determined engine failures strictly from rtv.

      VERUS oil pan has been proven to get rid of almost all of the pressure drop, even on a track

      @ it’s really not. If you take it off and reseal it you may put enough that it breaks off again anyway. I’m not worrying about mine but I don’t track my brz.

      they irony was they expected brake/fade to get ppl off track before they could ever be ON enough to encounter an OIL issue SMDH. Better fluid or lines and UH ohs skettios. Some classic USDM consumer grade stuff.

    I've had a sprintex supercharger then switched over to a JDL turbo kit on my old 2018 BRZ, within a year. Turbo is the way to go of efficiency over supercharger and I just ordered a JDL turbo kit on my 24 BRZ

      what's your reason for the preference of turbo? i'm leaning towards supercharger as the install seems significantly easier (no replacing headers [which i already have upgraded] or having to drop/replace the oil pan) and it seems to be, on average, cheaper than turbo kit. i do think turbo would make the car more enjoyable due to the turbo lag putting you back in your seat, but i think the added power from the supercharger would make this car more enjoyable to drive.

    • @fidelj3025
      @fidelj3025 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @MichaelSikorski-d8f efficiency is why I switched over to turbo. I can switch MAPs for increase boost pressure without having to change out pulleys. I didn't have to sorry about turbo lag, just depends on the size of the turbo you get. Also supercharger (roots) are generally generates more hot air

    I have a Sprintex on my 2022 BRZ. Perfect for daily driving IMO. I get 28mpg commuting to work, down One from pre-supercharger. I've a quite a few turbo cars and just wanted to experience a supercharger. With the supercharger, you always have more power. If you step on it, it jumps.

    I have a supra, but I personally like the design of the GR86 more. It's one of the more complete designs out there.

    • @circuitdemon_
      @circuitdemon_  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So true, the Supra is cool as far as drivetrain/performance, but we feel the style is just a touch better on the 86

    • @SharapovaFan
      @SharapovaFan วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's hard to describe. But the Supra is a more photogenic car. Looks nicer in pictures, but looks a bit off in person. The GR86 doesn't look as good in pictures, but looks better in person.
      It's about proportions I think, kinda like people. I have friends who are really photogenic, but don't look as good in person. Like the cheekbones make them aesthetic in pics. But in person they look too sunken and a bit malnourished.

    Sometimes all you need is just a little more kick coming out of a corner. Cars like this wont compete on the highway with most modern cars over 300whp+, but it'll be great around a technical track or twisties where it is probably run majority of its time on the road anyways! I think they look good and are a more modern, appealing version of a Miata. I had a 300whp 1991 miata..drastically changes the car when you put the power band that high in the RPMs and it takes away from the fun of the naturally aspirated set up it had from factory. I had a supercharged 2.0 Ecotec and my Cavalier ripped under 120mph with about 300whp, but mine was a twin screw and screamed like a banshee at WOT. Was fun, but now I have a 500whp Focus ST (2016) and its all around great, but FWD wouldnt be 'as fun' to drive as a lower powered GR86 to be honest, Id love to drive this car in this video! Both great in their own way! Plus my FoST is also Red with black theme, so i like the way this GR86 looks!

    Centrifugal supercharger like the HKS makes power on mid to high rpm. They need to be needs to be revved to get the most out of it. They are differents to screw type blower that feels like a bigger motor because of the added torque at low rpm.

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      i mean at least this engine has a better low end torque curve pre/boost. IMO it makes more sense to run this HKS on the FA24 than the 20. Plus you can also run UEL headers....but idk what combination of blower/supercharger and tune could even make the most of that setup. TBH for a street/able car id still say UEL + supercharger isnt a bad idea if youre willing to lose a lil power up top....if a street/etc cant really offer that/much rev-range etc or even certain tracks. If youre trying to hit a max/trap speed on straights...id still like the peak in low end bc the UEL and the SC pulling it into the top end. From a driving characteristic etc it would definitely drive/feel like a much different car/tune than most. But it would probably still need ideal/custom gearing to maximize the power-band of a build/tune like that. Its definitely crossed my mind. I mean compared to a roots style where heat soak can already cut off/kneecap peak power. Idk how much it would take/cost to ideally tune a fa24 with a centrifugal and UEL headers...but it sounds like a good/match.

    • @ronaldsanpedro4338
      @ronaldsanpedro4338 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@anhiirr you are right. Fa24+centrifugal SC is a very good match for the gr86 power band. Because of the low-end torque. For the fa20, you might need to help it a little with either a uel or a shorter final drive. I have a gen1 BRZ manual. I just put a tune and 4.88 FD and a hks exhaust. Very satisfied by the result. Kept it NA. Very reliable car and fun setup if you don't need high top speed. It maxes out at 240 kph or 149 mph.

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ronaldsanpedro4338 yeah i figured the only way to finalize the top end would be a modded or different final drive but TBF im not personally willing to DROP/invest that much into a build or consider buying into it....outside of a couple years down the road when the used market is more frugal/viable or ideally finding one that was relatively babied/cared for from some mid life crisis "BUY" thats now ready to move on/uprgrade...where us/second hand buyers come into play. HELL if there was a DCT mod ATP it also makes some sense too for a FD or a custom gearing application. And DEFINITEY in regards to top/speed/track use...im 150% vested towards highly USABLE streetable power ATP

      I want to see some data on centrifugal with UEL headers. Roots already suffers from heat soak/power loss on the high end...so possibly UEL/top end trade off but a low end peak and HUGE mid range combo/tune with UEL and a CENTRIFUGAL seems like a hoot esp with a custom rear end/gearing XD. Sounds like a lot of investment to make that work...but equally huge gains with streetable torque from low end to peak/power ranges.
