My Father was here during World War Two. He was an Army cook and had a pet penguin. He remembered the building of army huts at Port Stanley, still there in 1982 and in 2023 going by the photos.
A tropical setting means lush green vegetation and jungle canopy with sunny months year round interspersed with rainy days. The Falklands Islands do not look like that, but they are beautiful nonetheless in their near Antarctic setting. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

As a paratrooper who fought in the Falklands War of 1982, did we really die so that the local population could abandon camp only to sell plastic crap to tourists in Stanley. Goose Green and the likes are vastly depopulated today than that of 82. Very sad that many of my mates died for this.
Depopulation from rural areas has been happening in the UK for years, especially when it comes down to the modernisation in farming. The sacrifices you and your comrades made in 82 will never be forgotten on the islands. I have lived in the Falklands for 3 years and absolutely love the place and the people, and since 82 it has gone from a poor land to a prosperous one. I have spoken to many Vets who have stayed here and have been made to feel welcome and have loved their stay. If possible, I would recommend you come down for a visit..

I stayed with Tex Alazier a man who has made something of the land and Jenny Anderson. My mates died for this, very few veterans have made their home there, and the last time I went I well remember customs and immigration stamping my passport to the tune of two weeks stay to which I replied, You didn't say that in 82 did you?. Maybe the Islanders should share some of the wealth you talk about with those who liberated them and have gone on to have wretched lives plagued with physical and mental health problems As for depopulation, we aren't talking about the UK, we are talking about the Falkland Islands and how they have squandered the legacy that we died for, they reaped the rewards, we died.
The word is Malvinas, not Malvidas. ThecMaldives are in the Induan Ocean. Given the deicate diplomatic situation in THE FALKLANDS, it would be good if you could be more accurate and careful.

You can get as close to the water as you want, but not to the penguins.
