This has always been my go to pedal.
I can’t believe how many people don’t realize how realize how an eq can give them the tone they seek to find without spending hundreds on other pedals.
I give a boost to the 800mhz and 1K and boost the last slider up a quarter of the way.

Used the GE7 to overdrive a 1977 Fender Twin with JBL's for lead sessions in the 1990's, also used it to push a 1977 Marshall 50W Combo. The GE-7 Is THE most versatile pedal that exists for any guitarist. This pedal really teaches you how to craft YOUR sound and has been a rock solid part of my board for decades. This should be your first investment before any fuzz, distortion or other effects. This pedal will help you to form your own sound.

One great thing to do with this pedal also is put it in front of an overdrive and you can drastically change the sound of the overdrive by boosting various frequencies, essentially changing the overdrive’s natural EQ curve. Great video!

I used to gig with an Orange TH30 which had excellent clarity on the cleans, but without a proper EQ on the dirt channel or with a drive pedal it was good as dead in the mix. My Boss GE-7 took care of that no problem. Never leave home without an EQ pedal.

Helpful video, thank you. I have this pedal. Never thought of the fixed wah setting; could be useful (more versatile than a cocked wah). Raising the mids never really cut it; an OCD V1.4 works best for me - however, the GE-7 may still be useful. Another GREAT use is to enhance a scooped mids (aka Fender sound). Say you have single coil pickups muddied by various pedals, or a humbucker with coil split; the scooped settings on the GE-7 add 'presence' of high frequencies. Check out the video by Brian Wampler who demonstrates the GE-7 for scooped mids/high end presence.

The great thing about this pedal in my little pedalboard is having it next boss digital delay as you can hit both with the same foot simultaneously and go into the instant expansile lead with one press of the foot. I tried using a Fulltone fat boost but the switch sound is noisy and not so easy to press with DD3 simultaneously. Still a great pedal by the way. I bought new GE7 because eBay used prices generally only 25% cheaper.

Probably one of the best pedals a gigging musician can have. For me even on a Fender amp, I tend to cut 500hz a bit with Humbuckers. As you refer to a Gretsch tone, is the way I set it. It plays nicely between two amp cutting it first as well. Using it on an Ampeg VT40 really helped get rid of the dark sound, and also makes my Sky King switching back sound more spacial and cleaned up to the room.
To me they are great gigging because let’s face it, volume, fitting in with a band or backing tracks isn’t straight foward. Unless you rely on mics and a FOH guy. So in those situations during sound check, you do it yourself.
I travel around a lot outside my practice space. And practicing at different friends homes, it helps me dial built up frequencies bouncing off the wall. But still keep my personal volume and sound in tact.
My thing has always been Boss EQ to cut before my first overdrive. Then optional parametric EQ before effects at the end. The two compliment each other well! I get way more mileage with a simple EQ with one or two dirt pedals.

Will try it out direct in from the guitar before the multi-effect (line6 POD 2.0) and overdrive pedals, and after all pedals. Should make a difference...

cool cool vid. I have a gt10, it has graphic eq too. I always thought about getting slash distortion sound, just for fun. Some people say you are not going to get it without a gibson, I have Ibanez and I could bet there is a way to get it, even with poor gt10. I've never seen such preset. I know Slash is not always the same, he sometimes uses wha or other effects over his distortion setup, and sound of appetite is not quite similar to illusion 2 sound, that album sound is what I want to achieve. Just check Stranged (or many other songs for that matter) and you will hear it, it is like distortion filtered, probably 2 distortions, or 2 gears sounding at the same time (I dont know). I sounds as if it had a wha stuck in middle position or probably it is just EQ, but the point is that there is clearly EQ there, that is why nobody can get it, because youtubers are not pros, they are just amateur and we dont know how to recognise frequencies.
Check out this vid, it is VERY interesting "Dicas Boss GT 10 | Slash "Don't Cry" Style Tone" , probably I should part from there, but you can see that clearly needs more gain. I can guess that great part of that "nasal" sound of Slash style comes from neck pickup probably, but still a long road to know exaclty how to achieve the whole picture.

    • @riowolfhart
      @riowolfhart  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey thanks for your feed back and your comment. I´ll check out the video you suggested! When you try to replicate somebody else´s sound you have to keep in mind that it´s not just the guitar equiptment you are hearing but of course all the gear in the studio that was used to produce that sound. The signal chain of the guitar goes far beyond guitar, amp, pedals... The outboard, the console, microphone placement, preamps... all that comes into play. ans it can make a huge difference in tone.

love this boss eq. i just had a problem with mine today so i plugged in the boss 9 volt adaptor and i clicked the pedal on and the red light pops on but then i play notes and it shits out and the amp goes fuzzy when i hit notes. im not sure i feel like an internal wire came loose or something idk. i know its not the amp cause the amp sounds fine when i dont use it. i use other effects through the send and return module and have no issues. so its not my amp. any tips or troublshooting methods i should take? or should i just buy a new one. this pedal is pure tone magic though. also great video man. for playing on the od channel on my peavey 5150 i set the eq like a “w” i’ll crank the 6.4k all the way up and 3.2 a little over 3/4 and the level in the middle. it sounds nice for thrash but of course dependiing on your amp and guitar and playing style theres many different settings you can use to suite the amp and tone your looking for. its the most legit effects pedal out their imo.

Woah! Never had a problem like that with any of my stomp boxes. I would be curious if you can see any melted or burned spots on the platina or on any soldering spots or wires inside that pedal??

@@riowolfhart that could be the issue most likely. your probaly right imo. who knows what probaly what happened. idk guess it was just a bad one. sometimes that shit happens every product always has one thats faulty. it happens. your most likely right but fuck oh well im just happy it wasnt my tubes or my amp. i thought it was a tube at first. but it cant be a tube cause there would be a huge volume loss if it was the tubes i think and amp would make squal type sound. thank god its only a 100$ pedal haha. and not one of those 400$ dollar pedals. and everything sounds fine. i’ll just have to order another one. sucks but oh well not the end of the world. crazy those pedals are built super sturdy too yeah idk i had it for 3 months then it shit it so i have no clue why it did that. what you said makes sense to me but haha who knows it could always be a million different things but damn boss pedals are sturdy as fuck. there built like tanks and they last fucking forever. my pops has one thats lasted at least 15 years old crazy. but shit happens. sometimes pedals just go faulty and mightve been a bad one. but that eq is sick. thats literally the greatest pedal ever invented imo. so many players use eq. its like the ultimate boost pedal and if you set it up right it just makes an amp sound awesome

wait i figured out what happened i consulted the owners manuel so apparently the eq pedal can get damaged say it is currently turned off and you turn it on while the amp is on it will damage it. so basically you wanna turn it on before you turn the amp on while the volume is rolled down to 0. then it says when your done using it you wanna turn your amp off first then turn off the eq. wtf thats crazy but makes sense damn i always turned off the eq before the amp. but idk i’ll try using it in that order and see how it goes. im just going what the boss owners manuel said. i play through a tube amp so couldve had something to do with damaging the pedal but hey thats how playing guitar goes. imo the only true way to master tone and playing is through trial and error trial and error is a big piece of becoming a great musician and creating good tone

The GE7 also works well if you've got a tone you like and want to lower the volume without messing around with your amp. Just reduce the level to get a neighbor friendly volume.

    Hi Richy
I am want to get some pedals to my Les Paul JR copy.
What do you think about a Nobel ODR- 1 together with this Boss GE7?
I will get a reverb pedal as well.
Something basic for playing and recording at home.
I am looking for the guitar sound for back in the day.
    Leslie West, Clapton and Beck

Hey Chris thanks for commenting. Yeah i think the pedals you mentioned are a good choice for the tone that your aiming for. For the early Clapton sound id go marshall and some sort of boost pedal

0h and the jr with p90 PUs will definetly get you in the Lesley West zone for sure

Great vid! No 10 mins of talk first, just the good stuff! The guitar sound at the start reminds me of Hendrix on the Strat at Monterey - Killin’ Floor. What’s your signal chain?

Hey sorry for the late reply. It´s just guitar into pedal into marshall into Oxbox into UA Apollo. No EQs or Compression added in post.
