    Sorry guy's this video wasn't planned at all and has a fair amount of rambling. If you're interested in the "should spyderco end sprint runs"? That starts around 6:57

    Right on man! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on S45VN once you’ve had some time to use it and sharpen it. I have the single cell version of that SureFire, the EDCL1-T and it’s the jam. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

    Good video , don't mind the rambling. Always good to hear an other opinion. Agreed on the sprint runs. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Keep the sprint runs but make enough so they sell out in an hour instead of the first minute.

      I personally would prefer "limited production" where they just produce the knife for X period of time or X number of batches.
      Instead of something like what you said where it sells out in 2 minutes

    I think you are correct about the sprints! About the pm2 i use to love it and the design is just amazing! Yet in the end its a good piece of steel with 2 bricks of unfinished g10 full of hotspots and you better pray you get a centered one. I wish a company like WE or reate would get the pm2 design and make it just amazing f&f and it would littarly be the best knife ever!

    S45VN is probably going to be about the same. Don't see why they would make it, other than making more money on the new name of steel.
    Sprint runs are fine... Just make alot more of them and don't bet on them all selling out in the first day (which is why some vendors only choose certain models that are popular). In any case, minimum orders should be alot higher. And buyers should be aware there will be future runs of it so they know not to pay more on eBay foe one.

    I think they should end sprint runs and maybe just give us more options on blade steels when the knife comes out. Also less sprint runs = more new spydey designs

    Another issue I've experienced is the fit and finish on these sprint runs (and exclusives to an extent). They seem to be made in a rush. My dlc M4 Shaman came to me with long ass scratch on the blade and the strongest detent I've ever experienced. I just bought the Para 2 with the Emerson wave and the blade looks like it was sharpened by a monkey. I could just have bad luck, but still those knives shouldn't have left the factory.

    I do like sprint runs, but I hate it when they release and sell out in just minutes. The KW 204p Para 3's sold out in like under 10 minutes and eBay sellers who managed to get ahold of multiple ones sell them for a substantial markup that way surpasses what I am willing to personally spend on a Para 3--same case with Kershaw's recent Random Leek Sprint. REC's C223GPODFDE is probably the most extreme example with it selling for upwards of $1,000 on the secondary market. It's an awesome looking configuration, and probably the coolest revision of the Military/PM lines, but that's wayyyyy past what I am willing to spend.
    My first sprint was the original Pebble Blue ZDP-189 Delica 4, which IIRC was made in the quantity of 1,200 pieces and released alongside a Jess Horn and Caly sprint run as well. However, this was something like 15-ish years ago when folks were not nearly as into this as they are today, and it wasn't all that hard for everyone who initially wanted one and was willing to spend the money to get one.
    I imagine part of it has to do with how much retailers are willing to/able to invest in a sprint run if a substantial amount of money up front is required.

    Doesn't your PM2 have side to side play when you have the pivot that loose? If I loosen up mine to fall closed there's some play.

    I honestly think what a lot of People just want from Spyderco are a lot more new interesting/exciting designs that are released more often during the course of the year, instead of just a ton of different sprint runs based on pre-existing models. Also, I really wish Spyderco would do what Benchmade once did with the Bugout!!! Benchmade announced they had a new knife coming out called the Bugout and when people asked them when is the Bugout going to be released, Benchmade said basically now/today and just released it on the spot. Spyderco's new reveal program is kind of exciting but at the same time I find it a bit annoying/frustrating. But that being said I do like the Spyderco app!!!

    So the pattern on the S45vn para 2 can be SUPER aggressive. I got 2 of them and they are totally different in regards to how aggressive and deep the pattern is. One is hardly aggressive at all like yours, and the other is mega aggressive.

    Vinny, I wouldn't go to BladeShow this year if I were you!!! Why because not only will you be in a large crown which is obviously a Covid-19 concern, I don't think a lot of exhibitors/vendors are actually going to BladeShow this year for obvious reasons. I was planning to go to BladeShow this year myself, but I'm skipping it just to be safe. Instead I'm most likely going to NYCKS(New York Custom Knife Show) in November depending on how things are by then.

    I think a lot of people have problems keeping up with those Sprint Runs, wich i do too, i have no clue what´s coming out next, excpet the S45vn models, but i don´t care, i do not need to buy everything that they release, so just look for what is interesting to you and be happy with that..
    I love Chris Reeve but their factory edges are always so dull, i don´t get it.
    Nice video btw.

    Great stuff Vin👊 looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the spyderco s45. I agree with you on the sprint runs, and I also thinks the small runs helps them dial in the heat treat, and focus on the steel at hand. The production knife steel world would be boring without the Spyderco sprint runs.

  • @tomj0008
    @tomj0008 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's all they do now. Part why I stopped buying spyderco, part upping their price based on their brand name, as it seems at times

  • @MANDN74
    @MANDN74 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sprint run allows them to test the market as well. Hell, at least there doing different steels and releases, keeps the excitement going for Spyderco. It sucks that it hard to get some models, but that’s part of the hobby. You win some, you lose some ! Great video 🔪

    Hey man, I wanted to ask, my dad's assisted opening spring just broke on his flipper, is that common? They are replacing it, sending him 2 more, but he would prefer to have a knife where he can flip it often and not really worry about that kind of wear/issue. (His knife some $80 m390 kershaw)

    • @lexis831
      @lexis831 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Broken springs are fairly common. But kershaw is pretty good at sending out new ones.If he wants to replace it look at the kershaw bareknuckle.

    I like the idea of sprints but I want them to make knives like the sprints all the time. So people with the sprints are happy and so are the people who just like the knife.

    I don't claim to know spyderco's business model. But it seems to me without sprint runs they would go out of business or at least have to lay off half of the work force and downsize considerably. They found a way to sell people multiple copies of the same knife. They can make up some of their profits by to just throwing a new or interesting steel on their most popular models.
    The reason most people want sprint runs is the same reason they increase in value on the secondary market. Scarcity.
    If a Cru wear Shaman with micarta scales was available permanently, for example, it would likely end up on most of our "someday" lists. Scarcity, fear of missing out, drives most sprint run sales. The remainder are legit steel nerds or "gotta catch em' all" hardcore spyderco collectors.
    I'm neither of those things, so i don't buy sprints on average. But I do appreciate that Spyderco found a way not only to sell multiple copies of the same knife, but in doing so allowing us a chance to check out some really exotic steels.
    I imagine there is good reason most knife makers don't offer that kind of variety in steel choice.

  • @Jrtowns1

    I like spyderco knives but it seems like they make the same knife in 10 different steels instead of making new knives.

    Hell yeah bro, I just splurged on the 10v rec myself along with a st nicks para3 and a lightweight rex45 para3... my only disappointment was the 10v previous owner swapped the scales for the green ones from the k390 p2 and they do not fit properly also I'm worried that he may have voided the warranty in doing so 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    I can get why reviewers wouldn't review blade steel sprints (fewer people own them, have already reviewed that model, etc.), but as far as being against their existence... I don't see why. It gives the consumer more choices. If they aren't making enough for the sprint runs to satisfy people, then why not ask them to make larger batches instead of advocating for them to stop altogether?

    Keep the sprint runs. If you miss it and don't like the pricing on the secondary market don't buy it. I would like a chance to get my hands on some different variations of my favorite spidercos. There are a few I would have liked to have but I am not buying them from sellers that have 4 or 5 and are selling them at overinflated prices. I'll just wait for the next sprint run. It would help if retail sellers limit the number sold per person. I am sure there are ways around that but it would at least make it harder for one person to buy 5 or 6 at time.
