If you recall Maxwell's speech at the end of Adventure Mode, he makes many references to "them." Took me a bit to figure it out, but I am pretty sure that by "them," are the Shadow Creatures that appear when you are low on sanity. One could assume that they are just merely hallucinations, but I seriously doubt that. The one Shadow Creature dubbed as "The Shadow Watcher," I think may be the leader of them, he even makes a brief appearance in this video right before the shadow hands come out of the book.

MrTherandomguy42 No just look on youtube. Don't starve story explained. You will understand. And Klei studio has been leaving all sorts of clues for the player to spot the real story. When you'll watch the video you'll understand.

I do indeed love this game (even though I haven't even unlocked Wes, let alone beat Adventure Mode). Wait. The whole point of the date is to suggest that this had some sort of relation to the huge Earthquake at the same time, same place. But, if I remember correctly, it occurs at 5:12 AM! Odd time for a show, no? The lack of a visible audience, I suppose, must mean it occurred during some sort of practice show. Interesting.
And yes, I just realized this, at least 4 years after this was released, and at least 2 since it'd been relevant.

This is the holy grail of don't starve lore. My friend freaked ou6 about this when it came out. I was as much of a lore digger as him. Do when I finnaly got the game he literally told me all predicted and confirmed don't starve lore up to this date. It was a nice conversation but it made my head hurt.
After all these years, what are your thoughts on the Maxwell Rework Short that brings the story back to this video?

If the shadow hands come out of the book, the story must take place INSIDE of the book.
When Maxwell is taken into the Don't Starve world, the codex umbra's power has decreased, but Maxwell is still able to use it for summoning his OWN puppets. In all honesty I believe that the codex umbra has the solution to escaping the Don't Starve world, like the journals from Gravity Falls.
I can't wait until the characters find the shadows' weakness and beat their asses.
Canonically, Wilson and Maxwell did use its Magical Knowledge along with Science to try and build a portal out of the DS World. It might have worked, were it not for Shadow Queen Charlie's interference.

How i see it,
and so, Maxwell, and charlie was sealed inside the umbra codex book,
Somehow, maxwell became his sealed to a chair to power the world, and charlie became a shadow monster that maxwell responds to.
Maxwell, eventually becomes free by capturing wilson and forcing him to take maxwells place.
Maxwell Is now mortal, and is stuck in the don't starve world, How does he escape?
In the don't starve non mutiplayer game, You can gather mysterious artifacts to move you to the next world.
I think, The story will go, maxwell keeps progressing trying to escape, and has to stay away from charlie, Upon inspecting his item 'codex umbra' it says i'm so sorry charlie'

Machine River Maxwell being playable is canon however. This is a timeline that Kevin, one of the lead designers of the game, made a while back:
"The canonical timeline of the DS universe goes something like this..."
1890s - 1906: William Carter origin story
1906: William and Charlie enter the DS world.
1906 - 1910ish: Some crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet....
1910ish - 1921: The various playable characters get pulled into the DS world.
1921: Wilson gets pulled in (Forbidden Knowlege trailer).
*THE ORIGINAL GAME + ROG STARTS HERE*
?: Wilson lives in DSworld for a while. Dies a lot, eventually finds Maxwell's door and confronts Maxwell
?: Wilson replaces Maxwell on the Nightmare Throne, Maxwell becomes Waxwell.
?: Some other crazy stuff happens that we haven't told you about yet....

Ya see kids, the lesson we've learned is that if you EVER AND I MEAN EVER try to do some crazy stuff around books, a shadow hand will pull you into the book.

If you play it slowly you can see 2 things.
1 before the shadow hands grab max well and charly, you can see a figure looking the shadow watcher(the long shadow who just seems to stare at you)
2.max looks like he's thron at the camera
Also Maxwell and the book were the cause of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Unlike in real life the earthquake in don't starve happened in the evening. Whereas real life it was early in the morning.

I'm still trying to figure out how Maxwell's lovely assistant, Charlie turned into the Grue! Then again, a lot of us are.
I think it was because the shadows saw her as a queen, like how they saw Maxwell as a king; so they likely gave her powers like him, but she either hid or just didn't suffer the same fate as Maxwell to be free

The pic was a shadow watcher. One of those tall men that come out of the darkness into your firelight in the game. They are harmless but when I first saw one I freaked out.

I just found out that "incarnate" is an adjective. I never knew. I thought to incarnate meant to become alive (in a sense) as a verb, not an adjective.
