  • With winter bearing down on us, I wanted to get out for at least one more destination ride before the end of the season. Not just a local metro trail; somewhere better. Naturally, I headed up to Duluth.
    This is my first ride on Hawk Ridge, an out-and-back trail just shy of 3 miles in either direction. This area is a popular spot to view birds, especially raptors, during the fall migration. And now it’s home to a fantastic, technical mountain bike trail with views to spare.
    Riding east to west will offer a little more climbing than descending, and west to east a little more downhill. The trail offers a variety of rocky terrain, slabs, and sections of flow when in the woods. There are a lot of side hits to offer some spice. This is a rad trail that is just demanding enough to keep things interesting.

    Hawk Ridge is one of my favorite places to ride. I'm a bit of a wimp as I never ride east to west but I do love the other direction and the Amity trails.

    • @robonbikes
      @robonbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah this is a great trail for sure, there are very chunky parts, but then the spots in the woods are quite flowy. You ride it the right way!

    Hey Rob, really enjoying your channel content. As a Missouri resident that makes it up North a couple times a year, certainly
    love me some DaRoof. Haven't ridden Hawk Ridge yet, but will be sure to hit it next time up. Thanks for sharing.

      @@robonbikes We have over 300 miles of Amazing Singletrack in the Kansas City area. And while you're in Kc
      you could go 3 hours west into Kansas and hit the classic Switchgrass Trail @ Wilson Lake. Or head down to south
      east Missouri near Steelville to hit the epic Berryman Trail, just to name a few.

    • @robonbikes
      @robonbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man I really appreciate it! Yeah, Duluth, what a place, I kinda want to move! Yeah the drone can track objects. Not always easy with mtb around here as it can lose you in the trees, but the side of the ridge here was pretty ideal for a shot like this.

    Hey man, I have a new amazing Duluth trail for you TH-camrs to ride. It’s called Parts Vermilion. It’s a black/double black diamond! It’s in the area between Hartley and the western side of Morningside trail. The shortcut to get there would be to park on Vermilion road, take Downer trail to the intersection with Parts Vermilion and Downer. Ride the trail clockwise. It’s a loop that runs through beautiful a forest area can be ridden either way. It’s .6 miles around, but it seems like five miles! You can session it multiple times. You’ll probably have the trail to yourself. I rode Hawk Ridge, Morningside, Downer and Parts Vermilion and then back, but it was a ten mile, tough ride. I have never taken this trail before, but it’s worth the effort to get there. It’s a combination of some of the best features on DM, BOB, Stone Age, and Split Rock Wilds. There is a slightly elevated double black skinny through the ferns over a gully, a double black very steep, mossy, no run in rock roll down with a huck at the end that goes into a tight right hand berm, two double black ladder bridge gap jumps, and many numerous rocky technical climbs and descents scattered throughout. It’s one hell of a workout!! Trailforks doesn’t really do it justice, but it was a blast!

    • @robonbikes
      @robonbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude, thanks for this suggestion! I genuinely appreciate it! The way you describe this trail, it really sounds like Stone Age, but with a few hand built/wooden features to add to the spice. I’d love to take this suggestion and ride this yet this year. There are so many trails in Duluth, so it’s always great to hear someone provide recommendations! 👊

    • @Randy_Johnson
      @Randy_Johnson ปีที่แล้ว
