I dont think there is anyone more linked to Graham than Alfyn or H'aanit, while Tressa is linked to him too, so while he doesnt fight somebody related to the plot, his backstory fixes that problem

I gotta agree, alfyn basically got lucky to be saved and his chapter 4 is saving a guy who doesnt matter in the scheme of things. his final boss is a bird. Like if graham doesnt save alfyn its like oh hey zeph wanna come on an adventure?
@FrozenCube RotMG well actually the only real boss with no significance to the main story is tressa. spoilers olbric: the fall of hornberg with lyblac using werner to bring the kingdom down and find the gate of finis ] ophilia: Mathias uses galdera's power and attempts to weaken the sacred flame, he was also granted extra life by lyblac and he along side simieon create the obsideons cyrus: lyblac tells lucia to kill the former headmaster and steall the tome from the far reaches of home primrose: the same as matiias really, granted extra life and helped found the obsideons. which of course kill primrose's father for finding out about the gate of finis therion: exploiting the internal strife of house ravus to steal the dragonstones acting as the keys to finis hannit: redeye is a abnormal abomination, created from graham resisting to lyblac forcing him to become the vessel for galdera
Mattias and Simeon are the best bosses in my opinion. I love how Mattias interacts with Ophilia a lot, and Simeon just brings out all Primrose's memories.
Still have fond memories of using Haanit to capture a giant bird boss and using it in the Simeon battle. I like to think it just crashed in through the window, breathed fire everywhere, and crashed out but the audience still thinks its all part of the show and cheers wildly.
55:46 now that's just unfortunate 😂. The confusion wouldn't have been so bad had Tressa only stabbed Alfyn, but she had to murder him with the ice pursuit before dying of poison. Got a good laugh outta that, but dude that must've sucked
A tip for Simeon’s second phase: if you use the dancer divine skill on an apothecary and then have them use a boosted Rehabilitate, then provided that you can consistently break his shields, Simeon will constantly waste his turns shifting weaknesses and casting silence, the latter of which does absolutely nothing due to Rehabilitate making you immune to status ailments. As such, he’ll never actually attack you, which means so long as you keep a steady stream of damage on him and manage your BP, the fight is basically guaranteed.

Poor Tressa was the victim of some of the laziest writing in the entire franchise 😂😂😂 Especially when you compare her to Partitio from the sequel - his subplot was one of the strongest, the main conflict with Roque being driven by differing views on the ultimate goals of entrepreneurship. Even Agnea, who had the weakest storyline, had an excellent antagonist in the form of Dolcinea...
Its a shame that therion and ophilia was the only final fights that they actually interacts with each other. but even therion final fight doesnt use VA but ophilia did
The could have easily added in some mid-battle dialogue for Werner, Simieon. Alfyn and H'annit faced monsters and Tressa doesn't know who she's fighting. Lucia is a maybe, but its a big maybe, since she's also kinda a mosnter in a way, but she was a person before.

The only reason Tressa even bothers to fight Esmeralda is because she stole her journal, and she knows literally nothing else about her.

@@Isuream6331 it could work, but what Tressa’s final boss needed was either some actual connection to the Gate if Finis or an actual personal stake in Tressa’s story. Tressa’s story in general unfortunately lacks any real stand-out bosses due to most of them being more of obstacles than actual challenges (Omar and the Venomtooth Tiger are mostly throwaways that only exist to give her a boss at the end of her chapters). But if we’re just talking about changing only her final boss, then it’s less about finding someone completely new and more just hinting at Esmeralda’s existence and importance earlier so her fight feels actually climactic.
My top 8: 8: Esmeralda (fanservice and some cool gimicks aside, there was not much to keep me interested in this boss) 7: Ogre Eagle (unlike Esmeralda, I can understand this thing's existence. But probably the cheapest boss) 6: Redeye (hardest boss) 5: Mattias (easiest one here. Except he makes it above the previous 3 for just what an amazing job Chris Niosi does in voice acting his in-battle dialogue) 4: Darius (also pretty easy but not as easy as Mattias and it was pretty satisfying finally being able to beat this coward down. The karma he gets after the battle is delicious) 3: Lucia (now we have the really good ones. Lucia may have been the most fun to fight) 2: Werner (really satisfying to destroy this monster, both because of what was seen of his strength and his evil earlier. I quite like how he stands out as the only boss, or character for that matter, in Olberic's story to be truly and purely evil with no excuse. His fight is the second hardest) 1: Simeon (may be a predicable choice but I don't care. Everything about this battle, from the atmosphere to the battle itself to finally being able to beat down the cruel sadist... Amazing. The ending after is also very nice)
It’s interesting to see how other people battle. This person is risk-taker, taking the battle as it comes. I’m a bit more strategic, calculating what I need to do to break the boss and doing my best to ensure they stay broken for two turns and that my party will have 3BP each. Often I let the boss take extra turns instead of breaking them just to make sure I’ve got full BP when he does break. Honestly, I’m just horrified that anyone would have Second Serving equipped... what if you break him accidentally?
I have second serving on a number of my harder hitting characters like olberic and alfyn, although I'm not anywhere near the end game yet - I find it handy to have for when you have to boost regular attacks for breaks, especially since I tend to wander into areas quite underlevelled.
I honestly use second servindo in almost all my party. My strategy is to keep the Boss in break as much as I can. I don’t care how much SP that’s going to take! Sure, when the Boss is in break I like to have as much BP as possible. There’s even a strategy that’s like this: The team must have a cleric, a dancer and at least 1 merchant (I use 2 to make things quicker). I use: Ophilia (cleric, hunter), Cyrus (scholar, merchant), Tressa (merchant, scholar), Primrose (dancer, warrior). Turn 1: donate BP to cleric and dancer (if using 1 merchant, use on the dancer). Turn 2: the dancer MUST foi before the cleric. Dancer: divine skill( Sealticge’s Seduction) on cleric. Cleric: Reflective Veil. Then I continue the battle as I want.

My understanding is that the first phase Simeon battle takes place entirely inside Primrose's head, which explains the different music and the puppets of herself and her father. She's trying to break free of Simon's hold over her with his betrayal of her trust when Simeon's twisted play are mocking the events of her trauma. The first phase battle is all psychological for Primrose, like a trauma victim finally breaking free of their abuser. I found this part of the game touching since her friends are also helping her fight Simeon in her head and heart too.
Am I the only one who like the Ogre Eagle? Think about it, Alfyn has been doubting what it means to be an apothecary. And after so much doubt and confusion, he finally realizes that he should help others no matter what. And Ogen, who made Alfyn question himself, is dying and as an apothecary, Alfyn needs to prove what apothecaries are. This battle will determine if Alfyn's beliefs and resolve are strong enough. If he loses, not only will both Alfyn and Ogen die but Ogen will never learn what it means to help people and Alfyn will fail as an apothecary and fail Ogen. Yeah, the eagle is not a plot important character but it's a test of Alfyn's purpose in life. I'm not trying to change minds, I'm just surprised nobody felt this way.
I agree. The journey is more important than their ties to the endgame; the player spends a good amount of time invested in the characters’ stories and their arcs (which is why I don’t care if they all tie into one overarching plot or not). Alfyn isn’t the only character who gets flack for his final chapter boss/story, but so long as the characters as satisfied at the end or do what they set out to do, I’m okay with it (Primrose doesn’t know what comes next, but she did avenge her father and I’m okay with that).
I feel like some are a bit blinded by the secret boss, yes there is a main story that ties all that you find out together but in the end all of those 8 characters have their own Main story, it is kinda like a DnD campaign which I think is really really cool
Ogre Eagle's fight was my favorite in terms of the battle itself. It was rough for me, yet it didn't feel cheap, like Redeye. I also love the rainbow aura, it's a good idea. When I finished my fight, my Cyrus had only 800 max HP lol.
It also made me think about the process of procuring medicine for humans from other living beings and if this in and of itself is ethical, but by defeating the ogre eagle you reassert that the spirit and worth of human kind exceeds that of other wild creatures
Lim Yong, Steffen some of them do, the rest didnt make it into hell! I also like to think Alfyn didnt kill the bird but just ruffled him and got the feathers. Like that bird is just chilling and hes like oh shit guess im a chapter 4 boss now...sucks to be me...oh right, uhmm squawk!
Also, Tressa didn’t kill Esmerelda, but she did kill that tiger in chapter 3, so that’s why it was the boss chosen for the gate of finis. Idk about Hannit with red eye though, would’ve been a better addition to the gate instead of the dragon.
While H’aanit did kill Red Eye, Graham’s soul was freed and moved on after the battle. This is why we see him at the end with his wife. Red Eye doesn’t appear as a boss because there is no Red Eye left to fight.
my list: (btw when i mean i hate/like/love them i mean as a final boss/villain) the only 3 i didnt like that much or thought was meh: 8: ogre eagle: just nothing much about it. its just key for the cure that alphyn needs. wasnt a something that was known or important throught his story, more or less came out of nowhere. 7: esmeralda: like she came out of nowhere, stole the notebook, realised it was useless to her, and then fights you. like what did she think was so special about the notebook? did she mistake the book for something else? perhaps she thought for some reason it was the tome, "from the far reaches of hell" because she too is looking to unlock the gate of finis like lucia, mattias, wernerm and darius. or am i looking too deep into this? the only reason shes higher than ogre eagle is because somewhat of a sassy personality which i kinda like, and that i feel like there something more to her than was made clear. also i havent started the main post story stuff so idk if she plays a role in that. all i know is that the gate of finis, the dark evil lady (who had the two side quests looking for some lover), and the evil god thing (who i forget the name of) are a part of it, and that you fight said evil god. 6: werner: i honestly dont know what to say. hes exactly where i dont hate him at all, but theres nothing outstanding about him either) the rest i liked: 5: redeye: unlike ogre eagle, you know of it since chapter 2 and it is why haanit's master is missing and her story is building up to defeating it on top of still being quite mysterious (until the fight) as to what it is exactly, how it turns people to stone, and what it looks like. 4: lucia: you know of her from chapter 1 assuming shes good or if anything is yvon's underling. but after chapter 3 you knew she was evil and the one in charge. also 30 armor to break though? my lord. she also seems to have ties to that evil lady i spoke of earlier. her and yvon act as a foil to cyrus' belief that knowledge should be shared. 3: Mattias: know of him since chapter 1, wasnt sure about why he needed to see the father, seemed like a good guy, and seemed important of a character for later on. you meet him again in chapter3 signaling further that he is an important character. then after 3 you have a suspic that hes the bad guy. then in 4 its like yeah hes the big bad. his goal of power from the gate of finis and the evil god is a hint that hey, these things are important. also the dialogue within the battle i liked. 2: Darius: could swap with #3 you know a bit about him since chapter 1, and is left wondering what happened with him and therion whether its death, stopped being a theif, stopped being pals but not exactly a betrayal(more of a "hey, im going to be on my own now"), or betrayal. and in chapter 2 you do get another reminder about him so you know hes important later on and eliminates the death option. chapter three is the reveal that he is has the last 2 dragonstones and you find out he "killed" therion and is why therion is so cynical and doesnt trust people. the fight is therion overcoming someone who have treated him as an underling. again i liked the mid battle dialogue. also his puropse collecting the stones fits is another forshadow that this gate of finis thing is super important. and lastly #1: of course its simeon. seemed like a good guy in the beginning of chapter 3 just a long time lover. also i was getting pedophile vibes from the flashback of her in the garden thing but idk his or her age of at that time. when i saw him pop out from behind the statue or whatever i knew he was the bad guy, but the stab still gave me chills. then of course the whole dialogue scene before the fight and the part A was very interesting difference from the other final fights. also gives me vibes of the crazy witty jester archetype

The problem with Mattias is that he's not really powerful without the help of his minions,but I still love the great voice acting in his fight.
I would have loved it if (almost) every character spoke with their respective final battle(except for Alfyn because you cant have a conversation with an eagle, and H'annit because ofthe Redeye only says 1 phrase)
I've seen a lot of comments saying that Mattias was the easiest of the fights, but he was actually the hardest for me in my first playthrough. My main damage was Sorcerer Cyrus, so Infernal Flame basically shut me down. Plus, Primrose and Therion were dead, so my other forms of attack were out of the question. I had to abuse Saving Grace with Olive of Life Ls in order to win. The fact that it gave me the most challenge, as well as the dialogue in battle, made Mattias my favourite final boss.
Darius, Mattias and Werner were a pain in the ass the first time, but after knowing how to counter all their attacks (specially Mattias with his magic attacks lol), those became way easier, and if you're overleveled
Actually Mattias was the only one that managed to stump me. It was the first chapter 4 boss I did and I went into it unprepared. At some point only Olberic was alive💀 But then I easily got the hang of things. And I never used the second classes until Lucia, which I fought last. I have a secret: high level lmao
ok so i was quite overleveled with a lot of my characters like olberec, thereon, and cyrus each in the level 60s+ and i did do all of the 4 hidden job bosses too with cyrus on sorcerer an olberec on warmaster. so a lot of them were easy for me(yes i did also look up their weaknesses too), but idk why, but lucia who i did last (which thereon was level 70 by then) was relatively the hardest because of that 30 armor and gave me 1 death compared to the others' 0. although i did defeat her easily like after the first break i just piled in all of the damage. overleveled sorcerer cyrus is so broken with 900 elemental attack from the magic nuts and the sorcerer support skills.
At release I would not have agreed, I tried to beat this once a year since then but just failed to get into it. But bravely default 2 kind of lit a fire under me to play this again and I finally went into it was a newfound appreciation and beat it, going for galdera next. Once you look past the disjointed narrative and see it for what it really is, everything just clicks, at least for me.
Sad that Esmeralda tried to sound menacing while I had Cyrus sorcerer, Tressa Runelord, Olberic overleveled and Therion to down her defenses... I wiped her ass on 3 minutes lol
Haanit chapter 3 was pointless for me as redeye was pathetically easy and never petrified anyone and when fighting galdera they didn't petrify anyone so I never ended up using those potions my entire playthrough.
Everyone but Tressa: battles warmonger, demonic creature, crimelords, cult leaders, ageless Michael Jackson fans, great monsters Tressa: beats up lady who steals little girl's diary
half of these bosswes were jokes for me considering i did half of them with a level 60 party with devine skills. but the few i thought before hand were monsters. especially mattis and redeye
I sure do wish I were able to put enough patience in to actually get to the end of each character's story... I always get stuck at someone's chapter 2 and I just can't continue.
For me esmeralda and Lucia were the only tough bosses. The funny thing is they didn't even show up as one of the black flames, that we fight before fighting the real final boss. I guess the developers went a bit easy on us. We just didn't see it at that point.
Just beat all of them and it's hard to say which is the hardest since you're getting stronger as you beat them and they dont. But it's funny because I was most worried about redeye so i did him last and i trampled him. But I think Lucia and Werner gave me the closest calls, her first shield can be a problem if you aren't prepared and werner's raw damage is no joke. They should have scaled as you beat them all though.
Alfyn is who I started my second play through with…when I initially got the game I started with Cyrus but he wasn’t too much fun as a main…alfyn was fun but ogre eagle really made me think and beat my ass about a dozen times 😂
I took a long time to realize the Simeon Boss is the same Simeon you meet at the beginning of primrose chapter 3 Am I right? And I thought Redeye would be a bit more, like, a beast…
Oh yeah on my first run I did do things that made the most sense. The only thing that didn't was Runelord Alfyn because my Tressa was weak as hell (since she was my last character) and Alfyn was my starter.
Going through this video reminds me of how much I wish I could figure out how to make Cyrus useful. No matter what I do in game, everybody else just does his job better. hell giving anyone the scholar job and the analyze ability renders his start of battle skill worthless because it's basically a free cast. Even Alfyn does his info gathering better especially when you start as him, if not get him early on.
I gave Cyrus Merchant as subclass. By equipping the Sorcerer's passive skill that doubles elemental damage + doubles MP cost, as well as the Merchant's passive that halves MP cost, he becomes a pretty good magic hitter. Also I gave him the ability that boosts damage when striking an elemental weakness + Saving Grace (obligatory). The Merchant class makes him pretty versatile and all around good at dealing damage/supporting himself and his allies, while still hitting pretty hard as a Scholar.
If I ever replay the game to 100% again, I might fight the final bosses in following order: 1st: Oger Eagle 2nd: Simeon 3rd: Esmeralda 4th: Redeye 5th: Darius 6th: Lucia 7th: Werner 8th: Matthias
Yo I know this game is 2 years old now but why the hell are you straight up posting images of every chapter's final boss in a thumbnail? You even posted this 2 years ago when the game was still new. If I hadn't already beaten the game and came across this video I would be pissed as hell. Have a little respect for people, man. It's never nice to spoil RPG stories for people, especially in thumbnails on TH-cam where they have no choice whether TH-cam shows it to them or not, no matter how complex or simple their stories may be.
I found tressa to have the most disappointing boss. I get that she looks like a figure of sexual desire for the weebs but she has no real motive. Edit: simeon is the most annoying.
Their is something i must point out. I do believe that if you and the boss talk is decided by who you started with and when you unlocked the character. For example i saw therion and ophilia talk to their bosses.

Especially when you compare her to Partitio from the sequel - his subplot was one of the strongest, the main conflict with Roque being driven by differing views on the ultimate goals of entrepreneurship. Even Agnea, who had the weakest storyline, had an excellent antagonist in the form of Dolcinea...
Its a shame that therion and ophilia was the only final fights that they actually interacts with each other. but even therion final fight doesnt use VA but ophilia did

The could have easily added in some mid-battle dialogue for Werner, Simieon. Alfyn and H'annit faced monsters and Tressa doesn't know who she's fighting. Lucia is a maybe, but its a big maybe, since she's also kinda a mosnter in a way, but she was a person before.
@@Red-pj6vy Lucia, despite being kind of a monster during the fight, still spoke like a human, like she and Yvon both did after their fights. I think Lucia could have fit with dialogue very well.

@@Isuream6331 the bird at least has some symbolism for Alfyn’s story in that he’s undergoing the same trial that his hero Graham Crossford undertook to create the medicine that saved his life as a child. The only reason Tressa even bothers to fight Esmeralda is because she stole her journal, and she knows literally nothing else about her.

@@Isuream6331 it could work, but what Tressa’s final boss needed was either some actual connection to the Gate if Finis or an actual personal stake in Tressa’s story. Tressa’s story in general unfortunately lacks any real stand-out bosses due to most of them being more of obstacles than actual challenges (Omar and the Venomtooth Tiger are mostly throwaways that only exist to give her a boss at the end of her chapters). But if we’re just talking about changing only her final boss, then it’s less about finding someone completely new and more just hinting at Esmeralda’s existence and importance earlier so her fight feels actually climactic.

8: Esmeralda (fanservice and some cool gimicks aside, there was not much to keep me interested in this boss)
7: Ogre Eagle (unlike Esmeralda, I can understand this thing's existence. But probably the cheapest boss)
6: Redeye (hardest boss)
5: Mattias (easiest one here. Except he makes it above the previous 3 for just what an amazing job Chris Niosi does in voice acting his in-battle dialogue)
4: Darius (also pretty easy but not as easy as Mattias and it was pretty satisfying finally being able to beat this coward down. The karma he gets after the battle is delicious)
3: Lucia (now we have the really good ones. Lucia may have been the most fun to fight)
2: Werner (really satisfying to destroy this monster, both because of what was seen of his strength and his evil earlier. I quite like how he stands out as the only boss, or character for that matter, in Olberic's story to be truly and purely evil with no excuse. His fight is the second hardest)
1: Simeon (may be a predicable choice but I don't care. Everything about this battle, from the atmosphere to the battle itself to finally being able to beat down the cruel sadist... Amazing. The ending after is also very nice)

I thought Werner was the easiest. Only mildly bad thing he did to me was apply terror, but that wasn't even an issue since I had a runelord.

It’s interesting to see how other people battle. This person is risk-taker, taking the battle as it comes.
I’m a bit more strategic, calculating what I need to do to break the boss and doing my best to ensure they stay broken for two turns and that my party will have 3BP each. Often I let the boss take extra turns instead of breaking them just to make sure I’ve got full BP when he does break.
Honestly, I’m just horrified that anyone would have Second Serving equipped... what if you break him accidentally?
I have second serving on a number of my harder hitting characters like olberic and alfyn, although I'm not anywhere near the end game yet - I find it handy to have for when you have to boost regular attacks for breaks, especially since I tend to wander into areas quite underlevelled.
Second serving is really good in a party focused around runelord. With it and an elemental attack heavy party I can average about 300k damage a turn.
I honestly use second servindo in almost all my party. My strategy is to keep the Boss in break as much as I can. I don’t care how much SP that’s going to take! Sure, when the Boss is in break I like to have as much BP as possible. There’s even a strategy that’s like this: The team must have a cleric, a dancer and at least 1 merchant (I use 2 to make things quicker). I use: Ophilia (cleric, hunter), Cyrus (scholar, merchant), Tressa (merchant, scholar), Primrose (dancer, warrior).
Turn 1: donate BP to cleric and dancer (if using 1 merchant, use on the dancer).
Turn 2: the dancer MUST foi before the cleric. Dancer: divine skill( Sealticge’s Seduction) on cleric. Cleric: Reflective Veil.
Then I continue the battle as I want.
P. S. Dont judge me, I’m beginning chapter 3 of the stories, don’t even have all the secondary jobs.
My strat is to break them for two turns, use one turn to heal/buff/debuff the other turn to go ham with my saved bp points

My understanding is that the first phase Simeon battle takes place entirely inside Primrose's head, which explains the different music and the puppets of herself and her father.
She's trying to break free of Simon's hold over her with his betrayal of her trust when Simeon's twisted play are mocking the events of her trauma.
The first phase battle is all psychological for Primrose, like a trauma victim finally breaking free of their abuser. I found this part of the game touching since her friends are also helping her fight Simeon in her head and heart too.
Honestly thought Simeon was gonna be the kinda dude who would get killed, but I was HUGELY MISTAKEN
Am I the only one who like the Ogre Eagle? Think about it, Alfyn has been doubting what it means to be an apothecary. And after so much doubt and confusion, he finally realizes that he should help others no matter what. And Ogen, who made Alfyn question himself, is dying and as an apothecary, Alfyn needs to prove what apothecaries are. This battle will determine if Alfyn's beliefs and resolve are strong enough. If he loses, not only will both Alfyn and Ogen die but Ogen will never learn what it means to help people and Alfyn will fail as an apothecary and fail Ogen. Yeah, the eagle is not a plot important character but it's a test of Alfyn's purpose in life.

I agree. The journey is more important than their ties to the endgame; the player spends a good amount of time invested in the characters’ stories and their arcs (which is why I don’t care if they all tie into one overarching plot or not).
Alfyn isn’t the only character who gets flack for his final chapter boss/story, but so long as the characters as satisfied at the end or do what they set out to do, I’m okay with it (Primrose doesn’t know what comes next, but she did avenge her father and I’m okay with that).
I feel like some are a bit blinded by the secret boss, yes there is a main story that ties all that you find out together but in the end all of those 8 characters have their own Main story, it is kinda like a DnD campaign which I think is really really cool
Ogre Eagle's fight was my favorite in terms of the battle itself. It was rough for me, yet it didn't feel cheap, like Redeye. I also love the rainbow aura, it's a good idea. When I finished my fight, my Cyrus had only 800 max HP lol.

It also made me think about the process of procuring medicine for humans from other living beings and if this in and of itself is ethical, but by defeating the ogre eagle you reassert that the spirit and worth of human kind exceeds that of other wild creatures

Also, Tressa didn’t kill Esmerelda, but she did kill that tiger in chapter 3, so that’s why it was the boss chosen for the gate of finis. Idk about Hannit with red eye though, would’ve been a better addition to the gate instead of the dragon.
While H’aanit did kill Red Eye, Graham’s soul was freed and moved on after the battle. This is why we see him at the end with his wife. Red Eye doesn’t appear as a boss because there is no Red Eye left to fight.

the only 3 i didnt like that much or thought was meh:
8: ogre eagle: just nothing much about it. its just key for the cure that alphyn needs. wasnt a something that was known or important throught his story, more or less came out of nowhere.
7: esmeralda: like she came out of nowhere, stole the notebook, realised it was useless to her, and then fights you. like what did she think was so special about the notebook? did she mistake the book for something else? perhaps she thought for some reason it was the tome, "from the far reaches of hell" because she too is looking to unlock the gate of finis like lucia, mattias, wernerm and darius. or am i looking too deep into this? the only reason shes higher than ogre eagle is because somewhat of a sassy personality which i kinda like, and that i feel like there something more to her than was made clear. also i havent started the main post story stuff so idk if she plays a role in that. all i know is that the gate of finis, the dark evil lady (who had the two side quests looking for some lover), and the evil god thing (who i forget the name of) are a part of it, and that you fight said evil god.
6: werner: i honestly dont know what to say. hes exactly where i dont hate him at all, but theres nothing outstanding about him either)
the rest i liked:
5: redeye: unlike ogre eagle, you know of it since chapter 2 and it is why haanit's master is missing and her story is building up to defeating it on top of still being quite mysterious (until the fight) as to what it is exactly, how it turns people to stone, and what it looks like.
4: lucia: you know of her from chapter 1 assuming shes good or if anything is yvon's underling. but after chapter 3 you knew she was evil and the one in charge. also 30 armor to break though? my lord. she also seems to have ties to that evil lady i spoke of earlier. her and yvon act as a foil to cyrus' belief that knowledge should be shared.
3: Mattias: know of him since chapter 1, wasnt sure about why he needed to see the father, seemed like a good guy, and seemed important of a character for later on. you meet him again in chapter3 signaling further that he is an important character. then after 3 you have a suspic that hes the bad guy. then in 4 its like yeah hes the big bad. his goal of power from the gate of finis and the evil god is a hint that hey, these things are important. also the dialogue within the battle i liked.
2: Darius: could swap with #3 you know a bit about him since chapter 1, and is left wondering what happened with him and therion whether its death, stopped being a theif, stopped being pals but not exactly a betrayal(more of a "hey, im going to be on my own now"), or betrayal. and in chapter 2 you do get another reminder about him so you know hes important later on and eliminates the death option. chapter three is the reveal that he is has the last 2 dragonstones and you find out he "killed" therion and is why therion is so cynical and doesnt trust people. the fight is therion overcoming someone who have treated him as an underling. again i liked the mid battle dialogue. also his puropse collecting the stones fits is another forshadow that this gate of finis thing is super important.
and lastly #1: of course its simeon. seemed like a good guy in the beginning of chapter 3 just a long time lover. also i was getting pedophile vibes from the flashback of her in the garden thing but idk his or her age of at that time. when i saw him pop out from behind the statue or whatever i knew he was the bad guy, but the stab still gave me chills. then of course the whole dialogue scene before the fight and the part A was very interesting difference from the other final fights. also gives me vibes of the crazy witty jester archetype

I chose Werner to be the last one, because of what he says after his defeat.
Mattias and Ophilia’s conversation is literally the only motivation I need to play with English voice acting. All the other gold is just bonus.

The Mattias dialog makes Ophilias chapter 4 about 10x more epic than any other characters. Agreed though that Simeone is #2.

The problem with Mattias is that he's not really powerful without the help of his minions,but I still love the great voice acting in his fight.
I would have loved it if (almost) every character spoke with their respective final battle(except for Alfyn because you cant have a conversation with an eagle, and H'annit because ofthe Redeye only says 1 phrase)

The voice acting and the OST in this game are absolutely amazing, 4:27 what fatalism and nihilism, we can feel the despair and the desillusion.
I've seen a lot of comments saying that Mattias was the easiest of the fights, but he was actually the hardest for me in my first playthrough. My main damage was Sorcerer Cyrus, so Infernal Flame basically shut me down. Plus, Primrose and Therion were dead, so my other forms of attack were out of the question. I had to abuse Saving Grace with Olive of Life Ls in order to win. The fact that it gave me the most challenge, as well as the dialogue in battle, made Mattias my favourite final boss.
Darius, Mattias and Werner were a pain in the ass the first time, but after knowing how to counter all their attacks (specially Mattias with his magic attacks lol), those became way easier, and if you're overleveled
Actually Mattias was the only one that managed to stump me. It was the first chapter 4 boss I did and I went into it unprepared. At some point only Olberic was alive💀 But then I easily got the hang of things. And I never used the second classes until Lucia, which I fought last. I have a secret: high level lmao
ok so i was quite overleveled with a lot of my characters like olberec, thereon, and cyrus each in the level 60s+ and i did do all of the 4 hidden job bosses too with cyrus on sorcerer an olberec on warmaster. so a lot of them were easy for me(yes i did also look up their weaknesses too), but idk why, but lucia who i did last (which thereon was level 70 by then) was relatively the hardest because of that 30 armor and gave me 1 death compared to the others' 0. although i did defeat her easily like after the first break i just piled in all of the damage. overleveled sorcerer cyrus is so broken with 900 elemental attack from the magic nuts and the sorcerer support skills.
Best jrpg this decade.
At release I would not have agreed, I tried to beat this once a year since then but just failed to get into it. But bravely default 2 kind of lit a fire under me to play this again and I finally went into it was a newfound appreciation and beat it, going for galdera next. Once you look past the disjointed narrative and see it for what it really is, everything just clicks, at least for me.
Sad that Esmeralda tried to sound menacing while I had Cyrus sorcerer, Tressa Runelord, Olberic overleveled and Therion to down her defenses...

Haanit chapter 3 was pointless for me as redeye was pathetically easy and never petrified anyone and when fighting galdera they didn't petrify anyone so I never ended up using those potions my entire playthrough.
I was pained to see this player not take advantage of critical battle skills like buffing and debuffing.
Everyone but Tressa: battles warmonger, demonic creature, crimelords, cult leaders, ageless Michael Jackson fans, great monsters

For me esmeralda and Lucia were the only tough bosses. The funny thing is they didn't even show up as one of the black flames, that we fight before fighting the real final boss. I guess the developers went a bit easy on us. We just didn't see it at that point.

Just beat all of them and it's hard to say which is the hardest since you're getting stronger as you beat them and they dont. But it's funny because I was most worried about redeye so i did him last and i trampled him. But I think Lucia and Werner gave me the closest calls, her first shield can be a problem if you aren't prepared and werner's raw damage is no joke. They should have scaled as you beat them all though.
Alfyn is who I started my second play through with…when I initially got the game I started with Cyrus but he wasn’t too much fun as a main…alfyn was fun but ogre eagle really made me think and beat my ass about a dozen times 😂

Oh yeah on my first run I did do things that made the most sense. The only thing that didn't was Runelord Alfyn because my Tressa was weak as hell (since she was my last character) and Alfyn was my starter.
Going through this video reminds me of how much I wish I could figure out how to make Cyrus useful. No matter what I do in game, everybody else just does his job better. hell giving anyone the scholar job and the analyze ability renders his start of battle skill worthless because it's basically a free cast. Even Alfyn does his info gathering better especially when you start as him, if not get him early on.
I gave Cyrus Merchant as subclass.
By equipping the Sorcerer's passive skill that doubles elemental damage + doubles MP cost, as well as the Merchant's passive that halves MP cost, he becomes a pretty good magic hitter.
Also I gave him the ability that boosts damage when striking an elemental weakness + Saving Grace (obligatory).
The Merchant class makes him pretty versatile and all around good at dealing damage/supporting himself and his allies, while still hitting pretty hard as a Scholar.
Looking at that I'm happy I put all the voices in this game on mute lol. It was way better in my head.

If I ever replay the game to 100% again, I might fight the final bosses in following order:
1st: Oger Eagle
2nd: Simeon
3rd: Esmeralda
4th: Redeye
5th: Darius
6th: Lucia
7th: Werner
8th: Matthias
That damn eagle was the first boss I took on. And I hadn’t even thought about it but alfyn was also my main character to. But that eagle is a pain.

Yo I know this game is 2 years old now but why the hell are you straight up posting images of every chapter's final boss in a thumbnail? You even posted this 2 years ago when the game was still new. If I hadn't already beaten the game and came across this video I would be pissed as hell.
Have a little respect for people, man. It's never nice to spoil RPG stories for people, especially in thumbnails on TH-cam where they have no choice whether TH-cam shows it to them or not, no matter how complex or simple their stories may be.
