- Octopath Traveler, True Final Boss Fight! Galdera the Fallen an Evil God sealed in the Gate of Finis!
This was a rough and long fight, especially because you had to defeat 8 mini bosses (without the possibility of saving) before this one.
In this encounter I had to use two teams!
At the beginning of the video I show you everything.
Team 1:
Cyrus (Scholar/Cleric)
Alfyn (Apothecary/Warrior)
Therion (Thief/Dancer)
H'aanit (Hunter/Warmaster)
Team 2:
Ophilia (Cleric/Starseer)
Tressa (Merchant/Runelord)
Olberic (Warrior/Hunter)
Primrose (Dancer/Sorcerer)
Every characters had at least "Saving Grace" and 'Patience", those two skills are so strong.
All my characters were around level 75.
Anyway I really loved this fight, it was epic and intense! This part of the game make the story way better in my opinion.
And This music was so good, best OST so far.

I never completed Octopath until 181h
Probably 150 of those hours were me grinding XP and JP. I got erryone to lv99 before I took on Galdera and acquired the last few achievements, finally completing Octopath
As a completionist, I always finish games last. I make sure to do errything there is to do in a game before I wrap it all up with the final boss

this will always be one of the most memorable final bosses I've fought in any game. not because it was tough as nails, or the music was epic, but because I beat it by having the merchant I brought along poke it for a measly 200 damage JUST BEFORE I could get off the really huge attack I'd spent the last several turns preparing as my party was on the verge of death. and if having a random NPC hogging the spotlight on the victory screen for the final boss wasn't bad enough, as soon as the fight was over he left, leaving a vacant spot in the middle of the victory screen and text that just reads, "Your companion returned to whence they came..."

I remember being so pumped when, after 1 and a half hours of struggling I beat the first phase, and then thinking to myself "There's another phase, isn't there?" As I watched the screen scroll upwards, my happiness went down almost as quickly as my team

One of the things I love most about this fight is how the four parts in phase 2 mimic a typical rpg party.

Honesty the boss being very hard is not what made me rage quit.
What did was the fact that losing this battle meant losing your progress of beating the previous bosses of Finis, which by the way were a lot easier to kill than Galdera (still long).
The unexpected sudden increase in difficulty is what got me (and i imagine many more), and in my opinion this shouldn't be an excuse for the game to not save your progress.
It wasn't the boss itself, but what you had to do to get another chance to fight it. Having no save point in a final dungeon is a cardinal sin in RPGs for me. It's not difficult, but time consuming and frustrating. Having to go through eight lengthy boss battles to get to the main without a save point is unforgivable.

Really wouldn't say this guy is "pro" - he makes his first phase waay longer than it needs to be with h'aanit with the crit or miss sword and no break damage limit on warmaster.
Ideally want a good sorceror to carry first phase with triple hit spells then support a strong warmaster for phase 2 to carry the fight. Other than that overheal support skill helps a lot and you just pray the turn order RNG doesn't screw you at the start of P2.
I didn’t know there was a second phase and I only had my main team leveled up you can say I was destroyed
Elijah Eugene saaaaaame. Level 76 olberic... level 24 Alfyn. Luckily the 8 other bosses were easy at that point so I only lost about 45 minutes of time.
Seth Dunn to make matters worse for me I went to go grind and got bored of that so I made a new save file just for the fun of it and saved over my main file on accident all those hours wasted 😂

Same... was so discouraged. Currently on my third attempt...
Something very helpful is that Alfyn can use concoct to remove all enemy buffs and prevent them for multiple turns to buff themselfes up again. This turns Lyblac basically useless for multiple rounds and reduces the damage you take greatly. I managed to beat the boss with lv 60-67 thanks to that without slapping saving grace on everybody.
Now I remember, it was curious bloom combined with ruinous dust.
I love Square Enix's tendency to make a story go from a minor conflict to fighting gods. I wonder how Octopath II will throw at us
I feel like Galdera is a homage to all 3 snes final fantasies final bosses, in the same way Octopath traveller as a whole is a callback to classic RPGs.
- It is has multiple phases in which you keep ascending a towering final boss, like Kefka from ff6.
- It is a body horror mess made of multiple bodies with their own healthbars, like Neo-Exdeath from ff5.
- And the second form is shaped like Zeromus from ff4, with both of them having almost the same pose.

I haven't played this game in a while, but I love watching someone else play because you can almost tangibly feel the hesitation of choosing what attack to use in hopes of breaking and discovering a vulnerability. So fun. Nice vid, thanks for sharing!

I killed him with similar setup that its in recomended, but instead of thief i had a dancer. Alfyn is best used on p1 to remove the anoying poision (but it can be overhealed with Saving Grace).

This strategy can actually be used on this boss (just a bit modified)
I used "50.00 all enemy damage" strategy during the first phase, using Warmaster Olberic and Alfyn/Inventory to spam Winnihield's Battlecry each turn.
During the second battle, I used my Runelord strategy, getting everyone to 14.000+ damage each attack (My main Team actually, just had to remove the cleric class from thereon because I needed it in the first party)
My first team is mainly Light Rune and elemental break, boosted with Sealticge and Aelfric. It also helps that Tressa and Primrose's bright pursuit can hit for 9999.
My second team is a BP battery Alfyn with a Fortitude Warmaster Olberic, wiping the floor with a Take Aim and Armor Corrosive boosted Winnehilde Battle Cry.
My strategy for this boss is basically, don't die until you're done lol. Ophelia heals my first team and Alfyn supports the next team.
I know this boss might not be so hard for some people but holy crap its one of the hardest bosses i've encountered in a game...

The youtubers have grinded to no end to put out content and strategies to best galdera and such. Youre in the majority that find this boss incredibly tough. I too have 140 hours in and cant beat the first phase with my mid level 60 team...

I over leveled for the boss I haven’t beaten him because I’m a moron and keep hitting bewildering dance by accident and I have the worlds worst luck. Each time it removes my items, leaves me with 1HP, heals my enemy, and steals all my battle points
This one is definitely one of the hardest boss and imo one of the best too. My first team was kind of a gimmick team (warmaster cyrus with runelord tressa) and my second team is mainly carried by Alfyn (yes Alfyn is the best character in the game).

@@capcomfan82 It has tactual turn based battles compared to Octopath Traveller, and it has a better story and brings together all the characters from the different stories far better than what Octopath Traveller does. You really need to play it to see for yourself. :)

An epic and tough final boss fight. It was very long, too. The best part of the game
Now imagine this artstyle in FF6 Remake. Can't wait to see Kefka's Monument in this style.

has anyone realized while they hear Lyblac monologuing that they are standing in O.C.T.O.P.A.T.H.? (same thing goes for the first towns in the game, can spell octopath for the character they hold)

Heh... I found myself intentionally keeping my characters as low level as possible in order to maximise enjoyment, because I found the game really easy. Then I came up against this guy with no-one in my party even close to level 60. Guess I'm going to have to either do some grinding or exploiting... neither of which I'm looking forward to.
I'm playing through this and I had no idea this even existed after completing all 8 of the stories. WTF! So I have just found it out and now getting my characters up to scratch so I can deal with this absolute beast! 😱

I heard this song called “Daughter of the dark god” in spotify. I didnt play this game or know anything about it. But soon i heard it I knew it was a final boss song. And what a song!
That song is phase 2. Phase 1 is called "The one they call the witch"
Its like they were so kind to sell us a whole game as a bonus to an incredible soundtrack. Least way I see it. Besides, aint no way I'm grinding to level 60-70 just to take on this boss. Pretty much played the game on up until the 20th hour and was curious just how far and long this game truly is. Saw this and went welp this looks cool and all but I have other shit in my life than to grind for almost 100 hours to reach this level of preparedness for the secret final boss fight.
I used the same teams, but with other support skills.
I also love this fight, might be my favorite fight.
I lost after fighting for 5 hours so I figured I’d just come here and see what happens rather than spend another 20 hours grinding my guys to the right level to fight this thing. I like turn based stuff, and I’m alright with some grinding, but I don’t feel like going to the insane extent needed to beat this boss. Still like the game though. Kudos to whoever can beat this boss.
Yeah, just got to this guy myself right now. Got up to this guy myself. I grinded for a couple hours, got my main/best 4 fighters up to to around 65, felt confident in my party and managed to beat the 8 previous bosses with relative ease ^^......................
Then I get to this part where not only do I need to use all 8 members (with the other 4 consisting of level 35+s >_

Fighting against Galdera will be one of the last things I do.
Despite this video, it looks incredibly hard.
But it's still an amazing video.
I finally did it. I defeated Galdera.
But I did it with the help of Chubby Caits. Sorry, I just wanted to finally beat the game.
The second phase wasn't really difficult. I killed every "part of the body" very fast.
And after that, I defeated Galdera himself within a few rounds.
My playtime after that fight:
About 140 hours and 20 minutes

I prepared everything for the final battle.
I brought every character at least to level 75, equipped the right gear, the right support skills and the right secondary jobs.
Three of them were about level 89.
Maybe I made the fight too easy.
And like I said, I just wanted to finish the game. But it wasn't easy to capture Chubby Caits. More than just *one* actually.
In the end, it was totally worth playing the game. I will remember the game as one of the greatest games I ever played.
And why do I say all that:
Because the fight against Galdera was literally the last thing I did in the game. The defeat of Galdera marks the end of my gameplay of Octopath Traveler.
Now I will continue to play Splatoon 2 more regularly.
i just defeated him. my time was 83 hours and 31 minutes. completed the 101 sidequests as well. i congratulate you and respect you for putting the effort into defeating probably the hardest jrpg final boss i have ever faced

I just did this fight and it was fun. Very rough, but I did manage to beat it on my 2nd try.
I didn't really look up anything about Octopath before-hand, so I was surprised while watching this video to see Tressa can give everyone Sidestep as a Runelord. Somehow I never thought of that. I had Olberic as my Runelord to give everyone a defense buff instead.
2nd phase was scary since turn one, three of my characters were killed, but luckily I was able to recover. I just had to spend many, many turns trying to heal and set up and slowly whittle away at Leblac and the other two pieces before I was able to actually set up and do damage.
What i just noticed that lyblanc is a part of galderas body wtf

The first half was easy enough with Sorc Cyrus so I just cheesed the second part with 1HP Fortitude H'annit. Spammed the hell outta pomegranates and bursted him b4 he became any sort of problem.

I just beat all eight stories in Octopath. It took me over 100 hours and I didn't really put a true dent into the side stories. The game was good, retro and refreshing all at once, but I didn't like the mindless wandering. Call me too spoiled from today's gaming culture, but I didn't like getting a side quest in one location with almost no direction where to go (so thus I just kept going in general as I assumed the game wanted me to) only to sometimes run into another side quest that had even more parts to complete. That I didn't like, I mean, I work and have bills to pay. I didn't even remotely know there was a "true" boss until Wikipedia told me. I just skimmed through this video and called the game complete. I have too many other games to get to. Again it was good, just way way too long.

Good Lord......it's like Kefka and Giygas had a child, and they named it Galdera. Aside from that, this fight looks tough and tedious as all hell (no pun intended) seeing as you need to level grind for all 8 characters, and pretty much max them all out in order to win. Jesus, it's like FF6 all over again
MegaMetalManX you only really need is to put them at level 70 and use the apothecary's ultimate skill to boost and heal everyone
@@mr.d8654 To be fair, after getting all the optional shrines and completing the character stories, My highest level character is 67 (Tressa, sorcerer) and my lowest is a level 39 Primrose (Dancer/Thief). Haanit and alfyn weren't much better than primrose, so to beat this game I now need to grind characters I didn't enjoy as much for about 30 levels. Welp, Time to bewildering grace the living shit out of literally everything.
@@patathatapon Dohter's charity with revitalizing jam and saving grace works wonders. Alfyn can expedite this combo with concoct too

I'm fine with it being tedious, it left much more room for the boss to be intimidating.
I swear this boss is extravagantly luck-based. If he goes before any of your characters in the 2nd phase and uses the ice attack you're done.
What about making your Starseer be faster than the head (the body part that uses spells) and use the debuff that eleminates every buff and prevents it to be buffed so it doesn't hit that hard? What about using the passive skills that resurects you ar 25% of life? What about using the passive that allows you to survive at 1hp as long as you aren't at 1hp? What about increasing the Magic deffense in the 2º party? Each one of them is enough to stop that from happening. I don't see any luck.

I used all my skill slots to make them strong enough to do actual damage & heal beyond their health so they can tank most hits during a turn. The luck is clear as day. This boss is different for everyone. Sometimes he’ll attack someone with the lowest health resulting in killing them, or for someone else, turn a blind eye. You probably haven’t watch as many different people do this boss fight so you don’t understand the possibilities. Trust me, it’s based on luck from the RNG gods. In my case, he went before the entire party and used an over power ed attack. Sometimes the ice attack will only hit 3 times but in my case it was 5 or 6. It’s entirely based on luck. Most people i watch get Atleast one person to go before he strikes. They’ve most likely lost to this boss more than once but you wouldn’t know because who records losing? Only reason to do that is to show people you reached the true boss earlier than most. Which is what a TH-camr did. But yeah man point is, if it’s not entirely luck-based there’s definitely some luck involved

Trust me, it's all skill. I have killed it with my team bein lvl 65 just because I think it's the best fight of the game and punishes hard the mistakes. There is only luck when you don't do things properly. If you don't do what you should have done there is a chance that the boss might just wipe you.

The evidence is you saying there is no luck required. You obviously got lucky. How can you be skilled in a turn based game?? I can be skilled through Ys, BoTW, Xenoblade, etc. Because they're games where YOU control the character and do the fighting. Thats where "skill" is required. In turn-based you have to be intelligent, observant and damn Octopath makes you think. I agree whole heartedly, it is the best fight of the game and punishes hard. I can kill every random encounter and mini boss in less than 5 turns so that just shows you the scale of this boss.
But from experience, if you use too many passive skills, you will not do enough damage and both phases have this "Hurry tf up" part of them where theyll go more times than usual, meaning you're taking too long. So i try to maximize the damage. This has worked decently for me. But what skill is there in GOING BEFORE THE BOSS? I dont have much control over that besides boosting speed by like 200 with accessories. I'll try that whenever i get the chance. I wouldn't say im playing poorly because when i do ACTUALLY get to go, my team is over healed, bp is almost always 3+, and sp is in order. I know what to expect watching all these people play and what they all have in common is going before the boss. With no speed accessories.
Planning your turns properly is skill in a turn based game. Actually, you can't control turn one. It doesn't matter how fast you are. Turn one will be always random (Or so far that's what I have noticed in this game). However you can have enough survival to survive the first round no matter what. In 2º fase I relied in Olberic Warlord to do all the dmg. I just keep everyone alive with the potion that heals your full HP, MP and Action Points with the apothecary divine skill and abuse the Warlord divine skill. The rune lord gives you a Magic deffense bost in battle. I don't know how can you die without the chance of answering. Also remember the Starseer skill that has a 25% chance of ignoring dmg, it's specially good with repetitive hits like the ice spell. Not to say that you have a lot of items that lower Ice dmg like the Leviathan Shield. I seriously think it's your fault if you fail even if the boss does his worst to you. (I must say I think that the 2º phase is much easier if you prevent the head to get buffed with the starseer and use the Dancer divine art in a Hunter/thief to debuff all the body parts.)
I beat this today. I had to take Galdera on 7-8 times before I got it, but I finally defeated him.
This was my set-up:
(All characters were around Level 78-81)
Team 1:
Cyrus- Sorcerer
H'aanit- Warrior
Tressa- Runelord
Ophilia- Apothecary
Made sure that Ophilia was wearing the Thunderstorm amulet. Also made sure that H'aanit had a number of Devourer of Dreams captured to use. These take out the three souls all at once when she is fully boosted. Have Ophilia there to heal everyone, have Tressa transfer the Light Rune to everyone, and let Cyrus just bomb the boss with magic.
Team 2:
Alfyn- Scholar
Primrose- Starseer
Olberic- Warmaster
Therion- Cleric
I did the Olberic/Warmaster build trick for this part. Have Olberic at 1 HP, have Alfyn there to boost and break shields, have Therion use Armor Corrosive, and have Primrose use Divination on Olberic. Then, have Olberic unload on the boss with Winnehild's Battle Cry. Took him out in less than 10 minutes.
One last thing- I made sure to have Ogen with me. His healing powers are awesome to have for this fight.

Took me a couple days to beat this fucker. I hate how some JRPGs are usually a cakewalk. Glad to finally be challenged in one for once. Love this game

Gabriel Gimenez Just always a way to escalate fights. You usually stop something terrorizing your land at the start of RPGs and slowly expand to saving more and more until the fate of the world is at stake.
Technically kefka was a magically juiced up clown man. Sephiroth was a genetically spliced alien baby, ardyn was a man who got mad at God's.... Etc.

First time facing 2nd phase I got my ass obliterated by those elemental AoE attacks. For my second attempt I kept the same team of Healer Therion, Runelord Tressa, Starseer Primrose and Sorcerer Cyrus, but that time I made sure to give Cyrus every single Magic Nut I've gathered throughout my +100 hrs of gameplay. The whole team helps making Cyrus an absolute beast of a damage dealer. His skills were Surpassing Power, Augmented Elements, Elemental Aid and Patience. Gave him the Light rune skill (since he was using that one Light amplifier staff), Aelfric's Auspices, Peacock Strut, Divination and the amount of damage he would deal then would be absolutely ridiculous. A single cast of Elemental Break with those buffs was dealing around 55k damage *without* a single BP used on a broken enemy.
I then defeated 2 remaining minions and broke Galdera on the same turn. Dealt damage right there thanks to Patience and on the next one he was already dead lol, couldn't see a single skill of his. All around it was an amazing fight, both phase 1 and 2. You can get very creative with some strats here.
Runelord Tressa is the true MVP against the second phase
She's MVP for a lot of fights! Although sometimes it feels, I dunno, kinda cheap? I mean, Transfer Rune is kind meant to be used with her elemental runes, to give those elemental attacks to the entire group. Sure it works with Sidestep because of how that move works, but Sidestep is not a Rune, so why does Transfer Rune works?
That being said, I wouldn't have beaten him without that move, at least I don't think so. Maybe a future challenge for me: Beat Galdera without Mass Sidesteping! But I've just beaten him today, for now I'm good! ^_^

Here's what I do for the first phase. I use thunder amulets to reduce lightning damage my party takes from the eye.

This ɓoss is my nightmare i just can't waste another 5 hours to get rekt by his upper limb, and youtube still recommends these vids to shame me......
I prefer to be shamed for my whole life rather than getting rekt by this dude again....

I ended up not doing this because I didn't know that I needed all the characters so some weren't strong enough for this and I didn't want to spend the time again to beat those shadow enemies and then this with no saves inbetween after grinding for power.

Yeah I had no idea it was a 2 parts boss. My mid 60s team 1 took a while but took care of phase 1 but mid 40s team 2 got bodied so hard…
The irony of the ending
Ugghh. Got half way through phase one, then my frame rate became horrible. Ended up giving up on it. All the element switching of the souls was killing my performance. Combine with no save point, it's a tough battle.
Went through all the bosses before galdera, figured final boss would be tough... sees that it's a team battle... most of my characters aren't past lvl 30... ya I just resigned myself to defeat in the first phase XD, not going to bother with grinding out all the other characters to 70...
Lvl 50 is enough
finally beat this boss on 3rd attempt. My second team was too slow so i added +80 speed to them. Barely one shotted the boss with winny without breaking. 180k+. I think this was the hardest boss I every fought against. Phew! GG
