For a defensive shotgun, gas operated auto is the way. Reliable functionality from compromised positions is a must. You may be knocked to your back or forced to prone out and need to fire from that position. Operating a pump can be difficult, and inertia guns may not have enough body mass behind it to cycle. Pumps can be cumbersome to operate behind or on barricades as well.
Always good stuff, keep em coming.
Great points
These days I opt for a semi auto. I’ve had my fair share of pumps. The thing about a semi is they do have a nice straightforward simplicity to their use. Even the Turkish mag fed semi auto can be very reliable. If properly broke in, taking the time to learn what ammo they do and don’t like. And mag changes as long as you have loaded mags will very quick and easy.
And they don’t get stressed lol
The last 12 gauge I owned was an 81 Sears n Roebuck 28".
The last time I "trained" with it I had a a blood blister from shoulder to hip. I got old.
50 years of using a pump I wouldn't trust anything else shotgun wise. Now it is an AR15.
8 years Army its the only thing rifle wise I trust it and me together every day.
Go with what you know. Great video.
Familiarity is important. Age is just a number my friend lol
AUTO! All these people saying pumps more reliable...well guess what...unless you ran one in the sandbox or on patrol your first oh shit moment you will be what is LESS THAN RELIABLE at 3am, also...corners are a thing if you are not hunkered down which means changing arms or exposing a ton. Most Shotguns too exposure unless it's a bullpop. A hammerless coach gun that's 6" shorter and a pistol in the waistband wml DLC clips may be better for most.
Thank you.
Thank you!
We have a first! I disagree. I feel the pump shotgun would be a better choice for a new inexperienced shooter. (For home defense that’s a more detailed conversation.) Here comes a story.
I’m twelve years old and my brother is fourteen. My brother got a 12 gauge shotgun for Christmas. My best friend and my brothers best friend are brothers too and my brothers best friend got a 12 gauge for Christmas as well. My Father bought my brother a pump shotgun, but my brother’s friend got a semi-automatic. You see where this is going. One weekend, our Fathers took as all camping out in the desert and the shotguns were brought along. (My friend and I shared a double barreled 410.) After a day of shooting we returned to our campsite. My brothers friend was standing not ten feet from me and my friend with his shotgun held under his arm with the barrel (fortunately) pointed at the ground. All of a sudden, BOOM! His shotgun went flying back and up into the air like a rocket and the ground around me and my friend was peppered with shot. My Father had the foresight to buy my brother a pump shotgun knowing there would only be a shell in the chamber when he pumped it. Of course, that semi-auto shotgun was loaded automatically each time the trigger was pulled. Yes, there were a myriad of safety issues here and it could have been a lot worse, but when it comes to an inexperienced new shooter I feel pump is better because I feel it is just a bit safer.
I do agree with train, train, train, but that's a given whether you are a new shooter or experienced.
I feel like that’s user error but yeah I can see where that factor would be at play. Either one needs to be something the person is familiar with or single shot it is lol.
My current situation dictates an auto for me. A300 patrol or 1301 are my preference. I have the 1301 for now, but the a300 is in the works.
I also like double barrel coach guns.
The 1301 is an awesome shotgun in my opinion
I agree with all your arguments. Semi-auto for me
Mechanical items don’t stress out lol
Pump. Less likely to jam if the user does their part.
Inertia is ok…..otherwise, I’m going with a dual bar pump.
Fusion vs Remington :)
Uh... you "dropped" the target with the pump 😆
That’s a fact lol
Get a pump, less likely to fail. Just saved you 18 minutes of a bad video.
What an insightful comment! You must be a great joy to be around.
and if there are multiple intruders they will wait for you to pump another round! pipe down
