    Thanks for your content. Honestly if you're just going off cameras, the 4XL and 5 are white fine if you have them. 6 Pro has some advantages with the bigger sensor and newer hardware stuff, but you're not far off with the other phones.

      @@GrantLikesTech there's so much Google could have done with the 6 Pro. Allow Raw images with the full 50mp resolution. Allow actual pro mode features even though Google has features that mimic what pro mode does. Pro video, portrait video...maybe for Pixel 7? Once they get used to their own Tensor chip they can push the boundaries. And give us with Samsung and Apple gives us as far as different sizes. 6.1, 6.4. 6.7. Headphone jack on all models and let's do two cameras on the front even if it has a slight forehead. Wide and ultrawide.

      @@robertclarkguitar I was amped to get the pixel 6 pro but two things happened rather quickly. One I realized I got tired of big phones. Two was that it didn't seem good enough to upgrade from a Pixel 5. Although there could be several reasons for most, I just didn't feel the need to move up

      @@AllLove0307 I had 249.00. Wanted a one plus 7t. But I missed my nexus series and was currently on a note 9. I saw the pixel 4xl was being railed in price and studied up. It's not perfect ...But it is amazing still to me. Odd I see the one plus 8 is on sale right now for 249.00 brand new from one plus site. Not sure how long but honestly , I'm still loving the optimization of pixel 4xl and imagine the 5 although running the gaming chip upper mid range snapdragon is still a better choice for longevity ...I couldn't agree more with sticking with either of the 4 series , 4a5g , 5 etc ...not missing much. Perhaps the 7 will be the best one yet. Hahah. Thanks man.

    Thanks Grant. I really love how you test without introducing bias into your videos and do the same scenes. It helps to compare the cameras, as well as to gauge whether or not there have been any changes with updates. The biggest surprise is the low light performance on the Pixel 6 pro, which doesn't seem to have been corrected with the camera update.

    Another great camera comparison. The 4 and 5 hold their own quite well. The rear camera on the 6 has less noise in low light, but the front not so much, and processing time looks to have been improved a bit

    This is the most comprehensive video you can find on the youtube. As someone you have used both pixel 4xl and pixel 5. Kudos to you for including the processing time. I also want to mention that when opening th camera app on the first time pixel 5 takes about 2-3 seconds to enter the camera app. Whereas pixel 4xl maybe take half of that. Which is significant when capturing kids and pets photos. when you quickly want to capture the moment.

    Thanks for this great comparison! I have the 4 XL and the 6 (non pro) here, and I can't see that much of a difference between them both. It seems, that the 6 tends to be on the warmer side, compared with the 4 XL. And it is a tiny (!) bit sharper on its main lens. At all it's not that big jump which I was expecting. This may be because also the older Pixel made exceptional photos which are hard to top.

  • @dis6900
    @dis6900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Not a huge difference between the 3 phones. Coming from a Pixel 5 to the 6P, I do appreciate the faster processing overall. Pixel 5 while a great device, took a good bit longer to process photos/portraits. Still amazed the 4 and 5 hold up with that aging sensor.

    i just found you and because of this video i will subscribe. i believe you should also include 150 and 200 percent crop in all your samples. you should also include 4x and 7x in all your samples, i think your 28min video will rescue me from watching so many different 5-15min videos. i think you can go longer than 28min and you should. for example here in the park where you are taking selfies, you could have paused the video and talk over to which one reflects real life colors, when hat looks like in real life, you couldve cropped in to see which one has more details and do like a voice over as well.
    doing this will make people prefer to watch a deeper analysis instead of following 5-9 channels to see the same phone vs phone comparison. it will be easier to just subscribe to you only. i think you should look into this idea and take what you can get out of it. i follow too many people because everyone has a different analysis, but watching this video, you by far give the most detailed information, just lacking a bit more information, and who cares, make the video 35-40min it will be well worth it. i havent checked your videos section yet, but i hope there is some deep camera comparison videos, where you even take the pixel, shoot raw with it, and compare deeply with what you can do with that and comparison with other devices. 15:10 here you could've done like some voice over of which camera gives the real reflection of your black shirt, and makes your shirt look true to life. 16:10 here i notice you move around to fast, but you forgot to also move around slow, you said the 6pro was handling something better but i think you should slowly shift around to see how they all adapt. 16:32 sir how is this night shots, when you forgot to use night sight feature? 19:11 here you could've cropped in specifically to the brach tree on the right side of the picture and see who holds the most details. and voice over it all and include which one looks true to life. 20:21 great time to voice over and talk about the 4 having better processing about the trees etc. wtf, etc, how could this happen, etc. look at the detail on the ground of the 4, its crazy. 20:36 did the pixel 4 just win again here? 24:58 4 doesnt have auto focus, so your missing, manually tapping your finger on your face to auto focus. you missed this ;/ then it would be a good comparison. 20:03 you should have taken this time to switch from 60fps to 30fps, then 4k to 1080, again 60fps to 30fps to see what is the best settings for 6pro, wouldve been interesting brother.

    Great one, Grant! Seems like the algorithm on the P6 series ain't fully optimized with the hardware (yet); it's like it's being held back. I've compared all the way back to the Pixel 2 XL and also didn't find THAT huge of a jump in the 6. It'll be cool if Google just flipped the switch one day and boom - night and day difference, rather than incremental changes/updates here and there.

    • @GrantLikesTech
      @GrantLikesTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's just a nod to how good their software image processing is that it can still hold up on older devices. The larger sensor helps with more natural bokeh and some nice macros with the telephoto lens, but in the end Pixel processing is still Pixel processing.

    Video on the Pixel 6 is actually the best on any Android phone, especially in low light. It lets noise be noise, but it's very sharp and natural with great HDR. It doesn't touch the iPhone yet, but it can get even closer if Google gives it more natural colours in daylight and dials back the shakiness in low light. To have a look for yourself, just get to the low-light video bit and start pausing randomly and evaluate each frame. It's the sharpest picture here, and even sharper than the iPhone, which is an achievement.

    The 6 pro comes out on top but you've shown you don't really need the latest phones to get a decent result having used all 3 you find out that day to day they don't feel that different I mean ok you can open apps faster better screen and a more versatile camera set up but the 4xl isn't a slouch or the pixel 5.

  • @mrfragger87
    @mrfragger87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great comparison again! Apart from low light selfie performance I think the Pixel 6 Pro was the best, but I don't like how it goes overboard with the saturation sometimes. It looks like it depends on the scene, because it's most noticable in pictures with a blue sky and trees/leaves. It also happens in video a lot, but when you switch to the 4× optical lens at 11:40 the colors become much more natural it seems. Does that camera use different software or is that also because of some automatic scene detection? I overall like the daytime images and video of the optical zoomlens more than the main and ultrawide, because they look a bit more natural.

      same ....they offered me an upgrade to the 6 pro for just 13 bux a month. to trade in my unlocked pixel 4 xl........
      i said: "PFFFFFFFTTTTT.........aint happening!!!"
      I wont do it because the pixel 4 xl radar feature knows when im reaching for it and it unlocks when I look at it. I dont have to feel for a find a fingerprint sensor and no downtime there. As an IT pro thats what I need, sure im sacrificing "5G" but to date, I hardly use/need it anyways, I can configure all equipment and operate on non 5g. Superior unlock so I can interface quickly and there is less barrier between me and my task. The camera is still bad-to-the-bone. And my phones performance still makes me happy ;)
      I mean thats not the ONLY reason, but its the first one that comes to mind. Ive dropped my pixel 20 feet onto concrete too in an otterbox (from top of ladder) and I must say, it has withstood the test of time, Dont know if thats a testament to PIXEL or OTTERBOX, or BOTH. But dude, ottorbox on this thing plus a screen protector, ive stepped on it, set my toolbag ontop of it, dropped it off roofs and its still running strong.....
      ACCEPT THIS ONE THING:
      The god AWFUL ANDROID 12 UPDATE, GOOD LORD WTF ANDROID? They have mutilated my UI experience with this update and it has caused performance issues, not to mention I dont like the button array in the settings menu. And the colors remind me of mint ice cream.....which i HATE! ARRRGHGGHAHHGLAHGLGHGAFLFLFLGF.

    Its kinda of a slap in the face for the tech community that for years torched Google for using the same old IMX363 sensor for years. Now there is a bigger better sensor in the Pixel 6 and image quality isn't a big step up as they hoped it would be. Smartphone cameras are all about software and ISP, camera sensors do not make a massive difference. Tech Community really does not understand smartphone cameras and the philosophy behind them.

      Hardware definitely can make a difference (I.e. more natural bokeh without needing portrait mode), but software image processing definitely is what makes up the gap since these sensors can only be so large in small devices.

      @@DavidNg12345 that why companies use flagship soc on their camera phones, Google after the pixel 4 changed his mind to cut costs, even the tensor chip is cheap.

    With respect to the 4xl the difference in front camera is not very noticeable to make the change, in video and versatility if Since the 6 has a wide angle that the 4xl does not have and better video quality but in the main sensor there is no Much difference

    Pixel 5 imo took the worst images out of the 3, ig the midrange processor doesn’t do the camera software justice.

  • @DorianHilton
    @DorianHilton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think the pixel 6 pro it's not the upgrade we were all waiting for, i mean, you could grab a pixel 5 for a very good price and get similar results 97% of the time hahah

    • @GrantLikesTech
      @GrantLikesTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, always depends on your sensitivity to the differences. Casual users will most likely not notice or care much and benefit from the lower priced Pixels. Camera enthusiasts/photographers will appreciate the larger sensor, white balance controls, etc.
