This was handy to learn what wasn't my problem. I traced my problem to the "flush or trap handle" after exploring the problem suggested by this video. Kohler has a mechanism that fits into a square hole on the outside of the toilet. The actual chrome handle has to be able to move through this mechanism in order to full and release the chain. After time the plastic mechanism can expand and tighten down on the small metallic pipe that actually goes from the handle to the metal (or plastic) rod that attaches to the flush chain. My fix was to gently drill out the plastic locking section of the "flush handle mechanism" so that the metal rod was no longer hanging up when used. This allowed the mechanism to work properly and no longer hang up when flushing the toilet. No more annoying running toilet. I haven't seen this mentioned on any other Kohler repair video so thought I'd post it here in case anyone want to update their presentations.
Thanks this old lady of 76 finally got it done I had to watch in sections the clock turns pls putting the cylinder on right had to loosen the inners of the cylinder thanks again
Make sure you are using a genuine Kohler seal and not a generic korky etc... make sure water level is set correctly and not ro high causing it to overflow flush valve. Make sure refill tube is not pushes too deep in overflow. New Kohler washer securely in groove
I know this is old but have replaced seal on my Koehler worked great but now have water running slightly? Water not coming out of fill tube , any suggestions on what to look for next ?
I replaced the gasket and it did fine for a while, however, it's started leaking and running again. Is it possible that the gasket is bad or do I need to replace the entire flush valve?
Did you replace with a genuine Kohler washer or a Lowes/Depot Korky generic washer? We have seen these washers to not be as good of quality as the original. Also make sure the washer is all the way in the groove. Sometimes it can get pinched.
@@PlumbingPartsPro it was a genuine Kohler washer. I had a thought that it may be these chlorine tablets we started using in the tank, that they might be bad for the rubber parts. Do you think this could be the problem with the failure?
@@PlumbingPartsPro okay, thank you for the info. I didn't think about it until the new parts failed. I'll try replacing them and ditching the chlorine tabs.
Hello, I hope you will help me. My KOHLER Highline Classic White WaterSense Toilet keeps running water. Could you advise me on what I might need to do to solve the issue? Actually, the toilet bowl itself fills up way more than it is supposed to fill. I really would appreciate any input because my husband with dementia was just placed in a nursing home (almost $5,000 a month), so I have no choice but to learn to do home repairs myself. I am overwhelmed...
I just replaced the entire canister assembly flush valve and, while the leaking has slowed a bit, it still is occurring. I used an OEM Kohler replacement, but it came with the red gaskets. It seems they came out with the yellow one as a replacement. Are the OEM red gaskets prone to failure right away?
Is it normal to hold down tank lever for water to drain completly? There is no float to keep canister from closing prematuraly. Customer complains about having to hold down lever to flush properly.
So when you say, drain completely out. Does it flush or just not strong? Because I personally am not a big fan of the force of this flushing system. Typically the tank never completely empties, it drops once the 1.6 or 1.28 gallons has exited the tank depending on which one you have. If it flushes a few pieces of tissue without holding then that's probably all it has. It's also possible there is too much loose slack in the chain
Problem with the crappy design kohler cannisters is that they don't weight a lot preventing these canistor to sit properly. Recommend adding some weight to the cannisterss, fishing weights etc
I have never heard of this complaint. Adding weight to it would add stress to the flush handle causing that to break prematurely. Make sure the canister is lined up and locked in place properly to allow a good seat. This should be all that's needed.
Lmao I just tried that. Out a few ounces on it. It's still leaking. I think I need to add more weight! It will stay if I push down on it. Worst canister ever, it just floats up
We just installed a brand new Kohler toilet, and every time we flush, it runs forever and then eventually stops. It runs a significant amount longer than normal. My husband tried to change the water level thing but it won’t “bob” back up to make it stop again when he lowers it. It’s annoying. Any tips?
@@PlumbingPartsPro yes, I just replaced it with a genuine seal, I triednother seals as well. The damn thing is brand new. I tied fishing weights to the effing thing to keep it down. Nothing works! It's the biggest pos in the known galaxy, I can't find my receipt. I'm livid. Should have just bought the home Depot brand
kyle brown You are 100% right. Its an extremely poor design, imho. Mine runs intermittently already and its not due to calcium....it is barely a week old. This design simply does not appear to seal as well as the old wide wide flap does. Mine came with an orange gasket. I put a weight in mine as well, and that helps, but even with the added weight, I can HEAR it leaking.
Skip the food coloring! If you arent deaf, it’s easy enough to hear the water trickling out of the tank. Basically, if it’s a Kohler Wellworth, it’s probably leaking. Ive worked on toilets for over 30 years and this one is my first ever Kohler. It is NOT impressing me.
I'm not sure why you would do that. Usually the edges of the washer become deteriorated and cause the leak and even if using glue worked it would only work once. Then you would have to remove the entire tank to replace the flush valve.
Thank you! Saved me a TON of money!

I’ve already replaced the seal as you demonstrated but it’s still leaking. What would be the next thing to check?

Will these gaskets work for the cimmaron also?
Only if it has this cannister style flush valve. Some of the older Cimmerons had a 3inch flapper

Dang man. Your breathing during the video is soo loud!
brand new toilet brand new canister and gasket toilet still runs every ten minutes
Kohler gaskets these days do not last very long... No wonder why I always have to purchase some extra..

had to turn this off. That breathing was too much.
