1986 Suburban - New Speedometer Cable

Mongo was driving the big Chevy Suburban and suddenly the speedometer went to zero miles per hour while driving!? WELL THATS NOT GOOD!
Reference: new cars have a vehicle speed sensor, either on the output shaft of the transmission or the output shaft of the transfer case. This signal gets sent to a computer and then the computer sends a signal to the speedometer in the gauge cluster with the speed. These old trucks have a mechanical cable from the output shaft area to the speedometer in the gauge cluster.
On the old trucks there are 2 different styles. With cruise control or without cruise control. The cruise control style has a small gearbox mounted in the hood area 1 cable attaches from the output shaft area to the small gear box, then a second cable attaches form the gear box to the speedometer. This truck is without cruise so its just 1 long cable. Be sure to confirm what part number you need for your application but this truck model uses ATP automotive PN: Y-816 (100inch cable)
To remove:
At the T-case - unscrew the cable. then feed it back up to the hood area, may need to undo some clips along the way.
In the dash - remove the gauge cluster trim, bunch of phillips screws. Remove the dash pad, bunch of 1/4in hex head screws. Remove the gauge cluster, bunch of 9/32 bolts. Be VERY care full with all the old plastics. Its almost 40 year old plastic. Be care full with the shifter selector cable. To remove the cable from the back of the speedometer push down the little clamp and pull the cable out. In old cars this will be TIGHT just cause the parts have been mated for so long. Then pull the cable through the firewall gromet.
Reverse all the install the new one. Make sure the cable is fully seated in the back of the speedometer.
