They came into prominence in Finland in 2003, when Max Payne 2 was released and their song Late Goodbye was in that game. Many PC gamers became instant fans and I also had their first album, Signs of Life. However, I soon forgot about them and while I heard some songs from The Carnival of Rust, I even thought, for many years, they had quit the music industry. It kind of surprised me when I found out two or three years ago that they seem to be quite popular in Central and Eastern Europe. But yeah, they are a great band and I guess they kind of lost their chance when they somehow lost their prominence in Finland.

Creativity and passion. They are unique, they are magical.
Fantasy crackles with every musical note.
    They are not just musicians.
    They make art and poetry.
And Marko, your wonderful voice, your fucking body, your amazing talent… you're the essence of each verse. For me Poets of the Fall is the best ღ

What an incredible piece of artistic work, I´ve never commented on a song before but this was too good not to. At first I listened to it and thought "I just really like the sound of it and the feeling of rising above difficulties that seems to come out of the chorus". Then as i watched the video a couple of times all sorts of symbolism began to break through. So here´s my take on it and what it means (to me at least); the prison is our society and all the constraints, restrictions and regulations that it imposes upon us. The parole board and guards may be people around us who expect us to conform to the constraints and regulations or to fit into a mold, this is obviously different for everyone but examples might be; an employer, parents, spouse, our children, or even a government/social system etc etc. The moth represents freedom, creativity, following a dream. The room full of moths represents most peoples dreams, pinned down and forgotten. His moth flies freely even though his body may be incarcerated, I think this is especially beautiful because even though most of us may be caught up in a "normal" life and have to pay bills, work etc etc it doesn´t stop us from dreaming and and being creative, we just have to find what it is in this world that gives us that lift! The mundane is described as " move in circles day to day, twist the drama of the play to get us by", a constant repetition. I believe that that the woman (whose picture was used as an article of evidence ) was the one who gave the author his lift and what he needed to rise above the mundane. For each person it may be different but it´s unimportant what it is, just as long as it IS there, it could be travel, a love,or whatever, but we all need to find our own "lift" and never let the mundane or expectations placed upon us by others hold us back from being happy and living to our full potential . Whatever it is that will " lift my spirit take me higher make me fly touch the moon up in the sky when you are mine" then it is that which we must pursue with all our heart and mind. The most profound moment in the video of course is when freedom and creativity and the following of our dreams are deemed to be a "menace to society" as adjudged by the parole board :) Perhaps the woman and guard losing their temper is how people around us react when we tell them "actually I am not going to be what you want me to be, instead I have dreams of my own that I´m going to follow". This is my interpretation and what it means to me, feel free to differ. I´m sure I´ve missed lots of other symbolism but that´s what the song spoke to me.

    Times when I just can't
Bring myself to say it loud
'Fraid that what I'll say comes out somehow awry
    That is when it seems
We move in circles day to day
Twist the drama of the play to get us by
And it feels like fear, like I'll disappear
Gets so hard to steer yet I go on
Do we need debate when it seems too late
Like I bleed but wait like nothing's wrong
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly
Touch the moon up in the sky when you are mine
You lift me higher, take my spirit, make it fly
Where all new wonders will appear
    Like the other day
I thought you won't be coming back
I came to realize my lackluster dreams
    And among the schemes
And all the tricks we try to play
Only dreams will hold their sway and defy
When it feels like fear, like I'll disappear
Gets so hard to steer yet I go on
So do we need debate when it seems too late
Like I bleed but wait like nothing's wrong
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly
Touch the moon up in the sky when you are mine
You lift me higher, take my spirit, make it fly
Where all new wonders will appear
You lift my spirit, take me higher, make me fly
Touch the moon up in the sky when you are mine
You lift me higher, take my spirit, make it fly
Where all new wonders will appear
    Take me higher
(Make me fly) Make me fly
(Moon up in the sky) Make me fly
    Take me higher
    (Take my spirit)
    (Make it fly)
    (Wonders appear)

That ink stain? ...That actually wasn't a butterfly at all in the end. XD The blot 'morphs' into a human-shaped stain which (I think) means the prisoner is so insane he saw a butterfly instead of the correct image...
It actually reminds me of Volt from Velvet Underworld, a Japanese CD drama - he went insane from a scientific experiment, and now he hallucinates so badly that humans look like monsters to him (and he starts killing them).

Amazing band! Attended their concert in 2013 and I still impressed. A lot of lovely memories... But say me: why do you worry about their "underration" and less-then-100 mil views? Their music is great because it`s not so popular and it doesn`t play from every corner. Guys get their own money and they are pretty rich i think. Meanwhile their music remains clean and high-quality. So why should I worry about views?..
