What pisses me off is the theist asking, "Were you there?" about the big bang. I turned it around on the last one, and asked them if they were there to see god creating the earth? I got a blank stare and they walked away.
I stopped believing in Hell about 8 months ago, which has helped my anxiety tremendously. I told my doctor that I'd stopped believing in Hell. He drew back in horror & quickly ended the appointment. Wow, this is a compassionate, educated person. 😮
My brother died of cancer. My cousin, who unbeknowest to me apparently had gone off her rocker and become religious called me with condolences. After the so sorrys, she proceeded to tell me that if he wasn't saved he's gone to hell. Somehow, I managed to stay civil.
Mehki when my father died, 3 years ago, my great aunt did the same and I haven't seen or speak to her since then... I was a believer (Catholic) back then, and I was angry at her for even suggest that my kind father, who helped her a lot trough her life, was in hell because he did not speak with the priest before his death. Now I know better, and my father is in my memory and in all of those who he helped through his generous life. And somehow I did remain civil too, but I think I was in shock, unable to respond appropriately.
One thing that particularly ticks me off is when churches demand public apologies from their members. Usually for stuff that isn't wrong by any moral standard. I remember a young woman apologizing in front of the whole church because she had got pregnant out of wedlock. I recently heard of another case where they asked a woman, also pregnant out of wedlock, to apologize to the church during her wedding ceremony. The words "self-righteous cunts" come to mind...
I remember the same type thing. But the pastor had the pregnant lady beside him while he apologized for her. I remember thinking "congratulations, let us (the congregation) know how we can help."
Jeff Albright. flo kennedy once said "if motherhood is so wonderful why does it change if one puts "unwed" or "welfare" in front of it. why should any woman have to apologize or be apologized for for getting pregnant?
We have every right to be angry when this is the only life we know we have and there are people taking advantage of the fact that this life is short and uncertain and convince people to give them precedence over their lives and time.
I can relate! I am 15 years old and I AM an atheist. My older sister tries to get me to go to church but I refuse. I went to church when I was younger, I never understood how this world came to be... How did it all start? I asked every adult and they all said "God brought us here, we are his children". Till this day I think it's nonsence. Some say I'm too young to understand but I say they are not willing to open their eyes and see the truth behind bibles and churches
What makes me mad is that when I am hosting a gathering at my home, I have to sit and politely listen to them droning the lord's prayer before meals, but I don't feel free to just admit that I'm an atheist, because I might "offend" them. Now, it is actually my husband who worries about offending people, even though he's not a believer, but he's afraid of what other people will think if they know. So I fume and keep my mouth shut. I hate putting up with this in my own home.
Human's are capable of such goodness and greatness. Give credit where credit is due. Thank the people for giving, charity, love, and lifting others up.
I can't tell what's more enjoyable: you saying those catchphrases in the loving "Christian" tone or the introductive audio track. Either way, they are indeed funny and enlightening.
I can't believe I never listened to TTA #1 before. Having deconverted less than 4 years ago, I had to be selective in how much of the back catalogs I could catch up on. I found the Old Timey Radio effect created by the sub-par audio charming.
Damn! I love this! Thank you! Man, i've experienced this as well. Telling my dad i'm an athiest, he cried, and well, said "How can you do this to me?" and that he would kill himself. Pathetic really. Just because I dont believe. I dont understand, i'm the same person I always was. And he continued to call "athiesm" a cult, full of lies, and laughed at the idea that there is no "god."
Almost ten years after the original broadcast I will just say that the thing I hate the most is hearing and or reading "I'm praying for you." I always think, "the fuck you are! You will forget I even exist in about five minutes after you walk away from me."
Speaking to the title of the show and using "Hell." A few days ago, it was cold. As the wind hit me, I said, "JAYSUS CHRIST! IT'S COLD!!" I then said "Fuckin' hell!!" I then said "Well, I haven't been a very good atheist, today" lol I will rename this episode (in my own mind lol) to ..... "Mad As A Motherfucker!!" lol
Regarding angry atheists: It took me many years to get over being angry all the time. I still see the need for atheists to be active, but if I get active and engage theists, I can't help but become angry. It's not good for my delicate health.
Ugh I hate that too when people thank god for the "miracles" that saved their loved ones/relatives/friends. My mom recently went through surgery to remove two huge cysts from her abdominal area. I've been helping her still while she recovers by taking and walking her to the bathroom and such. I hadn't heard anyone say the "thank god", so I was QUITE surprised until I went to school and a girl said, " God heard my prayers"; I just had this face -_____________________________-.
LMAO the ad that popped up with this: Sponsor a child, the difference is Jesus! Hmm, I thought the difference was that they didn't have sewage systems, fresh water, shelter, proper clothing, and FOOD. I also had no idea the friendly atheist was going to chat on your show, Mister ThinkingAtheist. Two of my favorite Atheists on one showwww. =0
"All I wanted was dinner. What I got was a sermon" Amen to that. If we were left alone in the first place, the "atheist agenda" (or whatever it's perceived to be) wouldn't exist at all.
about 56 minutes in the guy who states that many literal bible nuts, etc. have a deep fear of the unknown made me instantly think of 'em pressing "the easy button" when confronted or about to be mbarrassed or questioned.
@TheThinkingAtheist I see! I completely understand your wanting to keep the momentum up. I'm the same way with my videos. I'll try tuning into the actual show next time so I can get the full experience. And after listening to the whole show, I still think it was a great show. (: I appreciate the reply.
The Thinking Atheist asks "What makes you mad as h3ll?" Here's my response: People who send their kids to sch00l, where they receive indoctrination. What a horrible spectacle it is: all these callers having to recover from their own indoctrination as Christians. Why get started in the first place? Parents, recast the Fifth Commandment to read: Respect your child.
What makes me mad as hell is saying someone isnt actually a christian oh man does that eek me but i cant say anything about it i just have to nod my head and scream silently
@TheThinkingAtheist Not at all, I think everyone who called in had their say and can understand that there are a lot of callers and you need to get through as many as possible so that their voice can be heard by those who feel that they're the only Atheists around, and that they're not alone. This and the "in your words" videos help a lot, and I'm glad these are out there.
INCREDIBLE! THANKS A LOT! I listened to the WHOLE THING & It's JUST GREAT! I'm "Mad as Hell" almost ALL THE TIME, esp. with my grandparents! >(] They forced Christianity on me as soon as I was born! I became much more skeptical as I got older, & I read Science books (I STILL DO) since age 3. I have an Astronomy book beside me RIGHT NOW on my bed! IF I go over to dinner, I preach to THEM, but about SCIENCE! I'll read Science books AT the dinner table! They just recently found out I'm an Atheist!
When you are at a community dinner, and they ask you to bow your heads and join them in prayer before the dinner. I don't do it, and sometimes I get looks from people. I was asked by a pastor once why I didn't participate (later after the dinner when people were mingling). I told him that I am an apistevistic atheist and I consider prayer to be a waste of time. (I had to explain what the term apistevist means.)
I'm going to stay with a very christian friend- I haven't seen her for years and she doesn't know I've fallen off the god wagon. It's going to be fun...
I've had the whole same dinner scenario a few times. A lot of it starts with just family members and friends just baiting you to respond to a lot of crap you hear, like stories about praying to a saint to aid in finding car keys as all the proof they need for a god and other crap like that.
@TheThinkingAtheist I am right there with you. I unfortunately went to a private christian high school, and a great number of my former classmates are on Facebook today. I have to use a TH-cam alias to keep them from knowing that I am an atheist due to the inevitable battle such a declaration would cause. Meanwhile, I log into Facebook to find praying over every little silly thing, and I can't speak my mind. I ordered one of those "A's" from the RDF but have never worn it in public.
the "Network" speech is a great speech - it embodies the helplessness of the individual in society -- if that doesn't strike a cord with anybody he's crazy...
makes me very happy to see people being open about their opinions! but one thing got me very curious, every time I open your videos, I am probably one of the first people to view them, I already see dislike, do they subscribe to you and dislike right from the point you upload them?
The one thing that makes me angry about religion is the power hunger and desire for violence in it. When I think of the End-Timers, the Domionionists, the ones who try to start wars, who try to paint sections of humanity as better dead than alive, who want the world to end and will hasten that if they can, it fills me with a rage I feel nowhere else in my life. I do not usually kill my own food, but it feels positively cathartic to kill and eat after a debate with the advocates of such evil.
Too funny - I just wrote my post and The Thinking Atheist just said something the same - so I'm compelled to refer to another. As I "converted" to atheism when I was 12 I had to discuss my beliefs with adults many times. The thing that really makes me mad as hell is when they would say things like "your wrong" (I would say "you are" which they didn't like, but thought it youthful petulance) or "you will find out" (and I would say you won't which they didn't like either). They're nuts!
I am so tired of being preached at. Recently at Wal-Mart a policy was put in place that prevents customers from paging people to the front of the store to be picked up or what not because it ruins the "shopping experience" of other customers, but it's perfectly fine to let church groups stand in the door way and try to "save" me or openly ask for money. I went to the store manager and tried to complain about this but all i got was an eye roll. -
People talk about respect, but respect has to be earned. I refuse to respect any religious organization, or its members when its so obvious they do not respect anyone.
I get mad as hell when people say that The Hebrew Mythology god invented everything, including science and that everything that happens is part of his master plan.
@TheThinkingAtheist I was thinking along the lines of a commentary on any recent issues/incidents that affect atheist, like :the incident in VA where the soldiers were punished for not wanting to stay and listen to a christian rock group( One of the soldiers was said to be an atheist.). I do not think that what I suggested is something that would fit into a bi-weekly show, it would definitely be something that could go once a month or so, perhaps...
You know, even at a young age I knew dinosaurs didn't live the same time as man and always found it silly that there were such things as Flintstones museum
I never really got into those situations with theists in real life. It does happen online with the usual "Evolution is Wrong" conversations. But there was once when I was taking a class and I told the lady behind me that I was an atheist and she said that "I would have needed absolute knowledge to say that." Ironically it also requires absolute knowledge to say God exists as well. What pissed me off was that even though I wanted to talk about it she just ended the talk right there and I didn't.
During your "thank a doctor" segment my partner, "Red" -- a Christian with a degree in word religion made an amusing comment. She said, "He sounds like a preacher." (added note, she also agreed with the sentiment)
I am surprised that during this session of the Podcast, no one mentioned a very common argument that Christians employ, which always gets under my skin, and probably a lot of other people as well. When you, as an atheist, profess that at one time you were a Bible believing Christian, but have since seen the error of your ways, the Christian responds: "I doubt you were a true believer". It is almost as if they think that no can change their mind. That frustrates the hell out of me.
What gets me is the saying "God will provide" I hear this all the time where I am.Someone facing foreclosure, or they might not have enough money to pay all the bills they have."Don't worry pray about it and God will provide for you."It makes me sick.Facing a eviction notice because they haven't been able to find any work in months and they're talking about "God doesn't give you more than you can handle.Pray, believe and God will provide."I swear I wanted to jump across the table and strangle ..
As an atheist and a navy vet what really annoyed me was when one of my facebook "friends" posted a joke which involved a marine (can't remember the details) and the whole point of the joke was that God is protecting our services members in Iraq. I don't want any harm to come to our service members but reality > God. Anyway I broke my silence and had to post the link of the navy seals that died over there..the ones that killed Bin Laden. To make a long story short: Atheists 1, Christians 0.
I once saw a video where creationist toured some kids in a natural history museum pointing at the presented material as "artwork" instead of evidence. I wonder how they would react if I went to a church and point at the stations of the cross and say thy are just artwork. Also, it really makes me angry when you get along with someone perfectly, but the moment they find out you are atheist, they look at you in fear, I mean, you can see that fear in their eyes, like I was suddenly some criminal.
@TheThinkingAtheist the first caller was cut off a little bit, dont worry, even at 1:42 am im still interested in the hour long video. your channel is the most profesional youtube atheist channel . i love your videos, god bless... lol
when he says it, it sounds like hemond temetta. lol. i already knew he's in wikipedia but i was just watching a youtube video, not conducting research.
@sum1unxpected personaly, I think it's a very suitable name. It encourages thinking for yourself, rather than accepting as truth without questioning: be it from an atheist or christian, or any other source
As a resource for any public school students (and their parents) with teachers that preach creationism, there is the 'National Center for Science Education'. Put that in a search engine, they have a website and a youtube channel. I've been watching videos of Dr. Eugenie Scott lecturing about various court cases involving creationism in public schools. The Supreme Court ruled that teaching creationism in public schools is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, per the Kitzmiller vs Dover case.
What pisses me off is the theist asking, "Were you there?" about the big bang. I turned it around on the last one, and asked them if they were there to see god creating the earth? I got a blank stare and they walked away.

I would have told them to eat shit and die, I commend you for your self control.
Yes, we are mad. Because we see the REAL suffering inflicted on others by a really bad idea.
You see religion on a hundred fronts... loosing the argument...
I love that statement :3
And it's absolutely right too!
This needs to be a recurring topic!

@@margaretjohnson6259 Exactly. No apology necessary.
I will definitely be calling in sometime in the future. Thanks for this outlet for those of us who trust RATIONAL and CRITICAL thinking!
I love these long podcasts. It allows me to do my usual browsing whilst being entertained and giving me things to think about.
Great show.
Looking forward to the next one.
We have every right to be angry when this is the only life we know we have and there are people taking advantage of the fact that this life is short and uncertain and convince people to give them precedence over their lives and time.
TH-cam have me an ad for Mormon.org before this video. Lol

these are pretty good. keep them coming.

I think the TheThinking Atheist should get his own radio show. Out of all the talk stations this is the one i would listen too.
Almost ten years after the original broadcast I will just say that the thing I hate the most is hearing and or reading "I'm praying for you." I always think, "the fuck you are! You will forget I even exist in about five minutes after you walk away from me."

9 years too late to Seth Andrews, guess I got 9 years worth of podcast to catch up on.

Really loving the podcast, man! Hope I can bask in their wondrousness(ness?), for years to come. ^_^
man, this guy could imitate Glen Beck to a T. heheh
wonderful show, I love your videos and podcasts!
What makes me boil with the rage of a thousand suns is when people say "I have proof but you'll ignore it."
God damn.,
"All I wanted was dinner. What I got was a sermon"
Amen to that. If we were left alone in the first place, the "atheist agenda" (or whatever it's perceived to be) wouldn't exist at all.
I love your response to "Thank God." "THANK A DOCTOR!"
Great show! You really keep it rolling!
We need atheist radio on SIRIUS / XM.
Man, you are SO good at that crazy christian immitation, im rolling on the floor everytime you do it!
It's easy to imitate Christians since we used to be one.
This is just awesome
Great podcast listend to it on my ipod.
about 56 minutes in the guy who states that many literal bible nuts, etc. have a deep fear of the unknown made me instantly think of 'em pressing "the easy button" when confronted or about to be mbarrassed or questioned.
@TheThinkingAtheist I see! I completely understand your wanting to keep the momentum up. I'm the same way with my videos. I'll try tuning into the actual show next time so I can get the full experience.
And after listening to the whole show, I still think it was a great show. (:
I appreciate the reply.
The Thinking Atheist asks "What makes you mad as h3ll?" Here's my response:
People who send their kids to sch00l, where they receive indoctrination.
What a horrible spectacle it is: all these callers having to recover from their own indoctrination as Christians. Why get started in the first place?
Parents, recast the Fifth Commandment to read: Respect your child.

A war of words where only feelings are hurt.

TTA, great show. Thank you!
Sad and interesting to hear your problems i am glad i live in Sweden there being an atheist is the norm.
Man, TheThinkingAtheist's voice is SO AWESOME! Can I buy it off you dude? You should have an FM radio station.
@Onlybyproof Yes, its downloadable on The Thinking Atheist on BlogTalkRadio :)
"what happens when people die? -flips over to a blank page-" LOL!!
this was a really good podcast :D
When asked about my Faith, I respond I have great Faith...Faith in humanity, flawed as it is.
I have Faith that we can make Heaven on Earth, someday.
Love this show!
I LOVE this channel and guy
So glad to hear the callers from the bible belt (Ms, Tn, Tx...etc) who are free thinkers! Maybe all is not lost...
The Network!
Good film.
And great discussion. haha
I'm going to stay with a very christian friend- I haven't seen her for years and she doesn't know I've fallen off the god wagon. It's going to be fun...
I missed the show due to severe hangover! Thank you so much for posting here! When is the next one?
I've had the whole same dinner scenario a few times. A lot of it starts with just family members and friends just baiting you to respond to a lot of crap you hear, like stories about praying to a saint to aid in finding car keys as all the proof they need for a god and other crap like that.
What's the problem?
We are born godless, we acquire the gods of our upbringing, we decide to set them aside and be "born again".
What's the problem?
I usually interrupt people who do that to me, and tell them I don't appreciate what you are doing, right now. They stop. Believe me, they stop.
@TheThinkingAtheist

This is great to listen to while doing... something else.

@TheThinkingAtheist
I was thinking along the lines of a commentary on any recent issues/incidents that affect atheist, like :the incident in VA where the soldiers were punished for not wanting to stay and listen to a christian rock group( One of the soldiers was said to be an atheist.).
I do not think that what I suggested is something that would fit into a bi-weekly show, it would definitely be something that could go once a month or so, perhaps...

@ThumbprintTheatrics I'm totally buying that book when I get back to Canada
@xxSilverPhinxx LOL, there you go, a little nasty round banana, full of seeds. Theists wake up screaming.
I think 'the god delusion' rather than origin of species, it's much easier to read.
Come on people THINK ! Thinking helps a 1000 times more than believeing in something invisible !
lol THANK A DOCTOR!!!
I love it =)
I cant wait til I get my TSHIRTS!! Gonna wear em in only the most public places

Hemant Mehta. He's in Wikipedia.
when he says it, it sounds like hemond temetta. lol. i already knew he's in wikipedia but i was just watching a youtube video, not conducting research.
SIMKINETICS He's on youtube too.
I know. Thanks.
NevermindTheZombie i knew too. that's why i was excited to see him on the thinking atheist.
The thing that makes me mad is when people say they don't believe in science.
@sum1unxpected
personaly, I think it's a very suitable name. It encourages thinking for yourself, rather than accepting as truth without questioning: be it from an atheist or christian, or any other source
@TheThinkingAtheist I thought you did really well with all the guests you had. Good show : )
As a resource for any public school students (and their parents) with teachers that preach creationism, there is the 'National Center for Science Education'.
Who else was expecting trouble when someone called 'shock' called in?
