Mechanical Engineer Builds Honda Element Tiny Camper! Meet Steve, a mechanical engineer with a passion for building and tinkering with cars. With a 2006 Honda Element EX-P AWD, Steve has transformed it into an impressive tiny camper, and we're here to share his journey with you.
Steve's background in car repair and engineering, including working on Rolls Royce cars and as a seaming engineer for Coca-Cola, has equipped him with a wealth of knowledge and skills. With his grandfather's teachings, it's no surprise that Steve knows his way around cars and building things.
What's truly remarkable about Steve is his kindness and willingness to share his knowledge. From vintage cars to off-roading doom buggies, Steve's experience spans far and wide. He explains why he chose the Honda Element and his plans for adventures, including camping at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Steve's tiny camper is equipped with two Nomadic 180 LTE 180 Degree Awnings from Overlander Vehicle Systems, LED bars and lights from OZ-USA, and more. Inside, he's added custom USB ports, a power supply for his Amazon Alexa, and the full Fifth Element Camper setup.
In addition to showcasing his camper, Steve shares insightful tips for those interested in buying a Honda Element, highlighting what to look out for and what things to check.

I would love to talk with him about his experience putting hand controls in cars.
This man is the neighbor you want to have around.
What a cool guy! Ultimate Dad vibes lol. Love the support he gets from his wife, amazing!
Hi @dennith7907 👋
He's super chill and it is pretty cool his wife supports his Element journey.
When he opened the hood and I saw how clean it was, I knew this was a man who would have a wonderful buildout.
Steve is officially going to be a reoccurring guest and show us his build. Since this video has has done so much more to his Element 😎
When I moved to Colorado in 2006 I bought a 06 Element with a stick and AWD. Really liked that car!
Wow proud of you my dearest neighbor . You got all our support
He's such a genuine person 🙏
Breathe of fresh air. Steve is an awesome guy.
Steve is officially going to be a reoccurring guest teaching and showing us all his creations 🙌
New video with Steve is out showing all the updates he's done. Wait until you see all the new things he has made 😉
Wish Honda would bring back old designs like the Element or the 2nd gen Fit.
You can say that again!
I am a Porsche guy and have kept my Honda S2000 so sometimes I watch Honda stuff. This is a great build, respect the attention to detail and creativity of this fine machine. Great video !
Nice girly car to own.
@@c.a.mcneil7599 You sir, read my mind.
@@c.a.mcneil7599 Certain cars are for collectors and real enthusiast, not wanna-be internet tough guys that think they know about cars and drive KIA's
Video subject: Honda Element camper. Commenter: "I am a Porsche guy" 🤡
If you feel like giving away your s2000 let me know!!!
Sleeping in the back of my Element, with my head to the rear. I looked up and was amazed by the view of the stars through the moon roof. I like the flat floor with a sleeping pad.
you’re an inspiration for older adults, you’re living your best life
The Element is actually a really cool vehicle. Man what a great build
Sir this is the cleanest mini car camper I ever seen and the way I'd want mine done if I get into this trend.
Damn! I haven't heard anyone talk about VW synchromesh in decades
He knows so much! I learned so much from him. We are filming more videos together he has alot to showcase.
Wow what an amazing guy and I’m so glad you asked about his background. Does he still work on upgrading cars?
Hi @thaixgrrl 👋
Steve is awesome he is such a knowledgeable, genuine person. He does but mainly for fun, and his current element takes up his time.
Hey, my Jeep hasn't left me broke yet.
I saw an Element with a pop-up roof. Im jealous of whoever owns it.
Me too, I would really want to upgrade mine and get one but it being around 10k to add on is alot. If I find a element with one that would be awesome.
Thank you for sharing all the link to buy the parts he has.
Our pleasure! Thank you so much for watching hope to see you in the next video we share ? 😀
Steve rocks!! Genius
I met Steve in Torrance in April, I had a good long conversation with him. I hope to see everyone again in June!
Isn't he such a nice guy ? Not sure if I got to say hello to you 👋
He got 8 fingers so I know for a fact he is a perfectionist 👏🏾
We just posted another video of his updates be sure to check it out to see all the new things he's built 😉
What a great build! Thanks for showing us!
Part 2 is now out. If you thought that was great, wait until you see what else he has added to his build 😉
Dang! What an inspiration
I'm using the LiPO car batteries. They have a remote jump start via a remote. Works incredibly well.
This guy needs a Mercedes Sprinter, I ll write him a $100k check, he doesn't even fit it in but he is still so excited about his tin car.
Haha honestly he would have the coolest Sprinter if he bought one. He can literally build anything.
Nicely done video and interview. 👏
Thank you! Steve is great in front of the camera 😁
This guy rules
Nice! Wish I could remove the rear seats from my 2007 CRV AWD (same engine?) and make a little camper out of it
Very cool! Nice build
Stay tune for part 2 once he's added more things to his Element 😁
Yoo what a wild build lol
Lovely ❤
Where he get all the cabinet?you got the link? That is fantastic!
Yes of course just updated the link on the description it's from Fifth Element Camper 😊
Did he make that cupboard and chair setup? Looks like the fifth element camper. Trying to find a similar cut pattern to make one for my element on my router
It's from fifth element however he personalized it and added a few extra things into.
Nice guy, nice car. Didn’t want to be rude, but I wonder what happened to his fingers. Hope everything is good. I miss my Element. Wish Honda make something similar in the future but we’ll see
Hi @rcinematic 👋
I have never asked myself however giving his very extensive history in fabrication I'm sure things happen. Thanks for watching we appreciate you hope you join the Ready Set Element family 😁
Sweet.
I've thought not long and hard about getting an element. I love how versatile and spacious they are for their size. Are they really a hassle to keep up with? I don't like hearing the word "unobtainium". Makes it sound like not a smart investment.
I have the same lighting in my kitchen now just in the corners that are dark
How'd he injure his hand?
Okay, what’s the little floss placker doing up there at the overhead console?
Gotta stay flossing, bro
If he planning on keeping honda Element, he needs to invest in an open roof camper that he can stand in and sleep on the roof from inside of honda i seen many people with these
So what's a 2010 Element with 180,000 miles worth?
Crazy I used to see these for $500 all day on fb marketplace years ago lol
I feel like people like myself are part yo blame lol we shared how cool they can be 😂
He put a wooden bench and shelves in the back...this is amazing why?
You wouldn't understand but that's cool
The title should be "assembled."
My 2010 is AWD and no moon roof....
2009-2011 AWD don't have a moonroof
Does he have a channel? Would like to follow him
Steve is officially part of Ready Set Element. Moving forward you will be seeing more videos of him and his build and all his creations 🙌
Very nice... Shame we dont get that Honda model in the UK. I have a VW T6.1 Kombi adventure van. But you dont get those in the US.
I wasn't aware the Element didn't make it to the UK I'm guessing for you guys you have to import it from Japen, which would be the best bet ?
I feel like in the UK, you have more options for cool camper.
@@ReadySetElement Yep I guess so, I Know a few import the Mitsubishi Delica from Japan to the UK
I must have missed something, how does he fit in that tiny bed? He never showed how he sleep. Is the element that big in the back?
You get about 6 feet of length so there's plenty of room. We didn't show him setting up the bed fully but I will show on part 2 😎
Came to ask the same thing. Wonder if there is any room afterward for a 12V fridge in the back.
Cool camper, ...... best part of the story is you are 70 years old and your mom calls 🙂
Jim gaffigan vibe going on
I bought a 06 Honda Element in WI several months ago.... unfortunately I trusted the SA dealer, small independent dealership) and they sold me an overpriced auto with a rusted out frame, the trailing arm is severely rusted. Any one that can advise me or give me info about the possibility of getting this fixed? PLEASE let me know. Thank you. Frannie
Hi Frannie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with the dealership and the rust issues on your Honda Element. That sounds really frustrating!
I'd recommend reaching out to a trusted mechanic or body shop for a thorough inspection. They can give you a better idea of what your options are for repairs.
You might also want to consider contacting Honda directly or visiting an authorized dealership for assistance. Hopefully, they can help you find a solution.
Hang in there, and let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!
09-11 AWD do not have moon roof
@collectorcarfeed Netgear's wet dream😂
lol camper. It’s a 3’ long bed. If you sleep in a ball or are a child it’s perfect
Cool guy, but title is a bit misleading. He didn't build much just installed a fifth element setup..
I hate light bar in the rain. Thank you for blinding my eyes. That’s a child ad on. Low miles doesn’t use it for camping much if ever. Like to see this guy stand up while camping. I would rather spend the night in a tent then in that. But to each their own.
Agreed with these Thought. And this writer DID spend a month camping in a TENT
Amazing engineering and design but there isn’t enough space nor would that bed design work for me.
Honda missed the boat. What were they thinking canceling the Element. The trend was moving more and more to crossovers, SUV's and overlanders. And the later on the Pilot simply got dorky stupid looking and cheap meterals. And Toyota sadly canceled the FJ and today it still has a following. Yet Toyota still had the Tacoma, 4Runner, Sequia and Land Cruiser, Tundra etc....
Lets hope he isn't rear ended or he's toast
show off off
elements or anything with a 'v-tech' is a flatlander car .. absolute dogs on long hills everything honda should be the 3.5l v6!
I could not finish watching this guy, in one comment he said the 07 had a better motor and then a few minutes later he said the 08 had a better motor. The truth is from the beginning till 2011 when they stopped making the element. It had 166 hp same motor. It was built on the same platform as the CRV except that in 2010 the CRV‘s horsepower went up. Elements horsepower did not go up 166. Second thing is it’s not an all-wheel-drive vehicle. It’s a real time four-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive means that there is power going to all four wheels, real time four-wheel-drive is it is a front wheel drive vehicle traction is lost in the front And then it transfers 50% power to the rear wheels therefore being a real time four-wheel-drive. Check the fax before you start putting it out on the Internet.
Maybe don’t spend the first 5 minutes of the video on a light. Unbelievably unwatchable.
Honda element is one ugly car, second to Pontiac Artez
Here before a million views!! This video is awesome just like you Wilson 🫶😘😂
Hahaha thank you! Hoping it helps more people find their Element 😁
