I had a very powerful encounter with Jesus when I ACCEPTED HIM AS LORD AND SAVIOR WHERE i FELT THE HOLY SPIRIT ENTER ME WITH SUCH JOY AND PEACE. A few years later I received the Gift or baptism of the Holy Spirit and it was a similar experience to my accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I did speak in tongues and felt the same peace and joy from the Holy Spirit. I have no doubts that this is real. Mostly I pray in tongues privately when I don't know how to pray and I need a word from the Holy Spirit. I've received many specific words from the Lord this way that came to pass as the Holy Spirit said. I am 69 now, and as I look back to my beginning of receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, everything this pastor said is true and happened to me, up till I became more proficient in my prayer language. Today I pray both with my mind and in the spirit up to 3 hours straight. Many , many times during prayer in the spirit, I break down and cry my heart out. I keep a prayer book, just like in the movie "War Room". Many have called me a prayer warrior and get prayer requests thru another person. It is growing too fast. All the prayer requests I pray are in the spirit. I will tell you this, There really is a difference doing this with your mind vs. Spirit is true.
In some year I do not remember 1985- 1988 in Russia one family from USA visit a church and I ask God to let to speak in American , even did not know that time they speak in English . By faith I start singing in other tong as Holy Host gave me utterance . After prayer an American women start speak to me loud with a big expression but I have no clue what is she talking about. She realized that is not from me and thro translator told to congregation what I sad. They heard their names , was a word of prophecy to them , very good encouragement to congregation in English . After service was over I came to them and thro translator ask what accent was when I was singing . They sad I was singing in English with American accent. After that happened I 've got strong desire to learn English not because I was going to be here but because God answer my request I start love English.I did not know that in couple years we will be on this continent That was preparation to move to another country not even know about this event at that time . Yes, I have heard that the more you pray in the Spirit the better..it can prepare you for satan's attacks also..it's a perfect prayer..I wish I could do it even for one hour! +Brittany M. We just open our mouth in faith to receive the gift. It's about trusting Jesus. For me, i had to let go of the fear about how it would sound and all the negative voices in my head about it and really trust. I sounded like a baby the first time i spoke in tounges (which was only a month ago) but i felt the holy spirit. My tongues are getting stronger the more i pray in the spirit. It's been a true blessing - ive felt the Holy Spirit like never before!! Its almost like the Holy Spirit was a seed in me and speaking in tongues was the water. AWSOME TEACHING! This is a confirmation. I just told my husband, I was purposing to pray no less than ONE hour daily in the Spirit first. The Word says to prayer with ALL prayers and supplications: Eph. 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, I Cor 14:15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful, and Rom. 8:26-27 states, Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself (himself) maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. THERE IS NO ERROR WHEN PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT. Unlike what many churches argue about, Paul said to FORBID NOT to speak with tongues (edify yourself-building yourself up on your most holy faith): I Cor 14:39-40, Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. Satan wants us to continue stumbling over this, because we'll stay divided, and as the man of God said, praying in the Spirit puts us in ONE ACCORD, and he knows the power of unity.
I grew up in a loving Christian home - the best! While seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus some of my siblings began attending a deeply Pentecostal church. Speaking in tongues was a big part of their Christian walk so much so that they felt that those who did not speak in tongues did not have the Holy Spirit. I did not attend the church, but I did try on several occasions to "just let myself go" and began uttering sounds. The whole experience left me flat. It bothered me deeply, but in one quiet time in the Word I kept reading John 14 over. "If you love me, ... I will give you a comforter..." Tongues was not part of the bargain. Time went on and this church my siblings attended fell apart through gross sin of the pastor. It tore up my family, hurt their Christian walk and deeply hurt my precious mother and father. Since that experience, I've never given much thought to tongues - until now. This and Pastor Morris' series on "The God I Never Knew" has once more awakened my interest in this gift. Not convinced yet, but I'me seeking.

I would like to offer up my interpretation of this. I must say this pastor did a very good job of explaining as I needed a little clarification. I received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues many years ago. Now the first time it happened I was on an encounter retreat and the whole purpose was to prepare yourself by bringing up everything before God and then on the last day they would baptize in the Holy Spirit. By then we were ready and I didn't go to the front like everyone else did and kind of stood back and one of the men said to me you don't have to go up there if you don't want to just raise your arms and start praising Jesus. No sooner than I got the words thank you Jesus out of my mouth that I felt something in the pit of my stomach almost like I was floating and my ears sounded muffled and I could hear myself saying words other than what I was forming in my mouth. Now I won't say it jumped up out of me but I didn't try to speak in other languages this time as I was praising Jesus in my normal language but what came out of me was definitely not what I was saying. It was the most glorious feeling I've ever felt in my life. The only confusion I ever had was since then anytime I have prayed in the spirit it has been of my own doing and I was never sure if what I was doing was right because as Paul says my understanding was unfruitful. but as I look back there has never been a doubt of what happened to me on that day it's just my own understanding has made me doubt if what I was doing later was the same thing since it doesn't come about in the same manner as the first time I received it. This kind of clarifies and clears things up for me but I want you to know that there is no doubt of what happened to me that day and it's often what I turn to when I start to have a small lack in my faith and just need to be reminded of my salvation when the enemy tries to make me doubt things. I know it happens for people differently but I was just hoping to be able to help someone or even receive some input from someone with a similar situation. I truly received the holy Spirit one day that gave me utterance while I was speaking English and praising Jesus but after that when I do it I am trying to speak in my prayer language so I guess that's where it can get a little confusing to people and make them doubt but I guess that's why Paul says what he said about his understanding being unfruitful. Anyway feel free to add anything and I hope this helps someone.
I was a Baptist for 44 years before I realized that you can be filled with the Holy Spirit and receive tongues in this modern day. I was always taught it was not for today. Thank God I finally read the word for myself and sought the Holy Spirit which led me to the truth. I am so thankful I know the truth now. The truth is so obvious but it is like many denominations are blind. I was too. I am no longer in a denomination, I just follow Gods word and the Holy Spirit. I found a church that is awake and not caught up in mans wisdom. The Bible is 100% the truth. No adding or subtracting mans opinions.....Read 1 Corinthians chapters 13 and 14 for confirmation.

For those who need comfort in the opinion of God on this matter (as I did), know that I took it to the Lord in prayer, and the Lord responded by giving me a prayer to speak out. It is a prayer to be given direction by the Holy Spirit: (please feel free to offer this prayer unto the Lord to bring comfort in finding your walk with God in the ways that he needs you to). "Father, show me what it looks like to live life as an outer expression of one who walks hand in hand with your ways and your outlook on all things. Father, if we take apart the whole gift of love that you have given us, we are left with pieces. Please give me the whole outpouring of your gracious and unending way of praising you, and of walking in this world to lift it up unto you in ways that you will call us individually to do in honor and glory of being made in your image. I want show more reason about baptism of holy spirit. many do not understand why speak tongues as a sign , start with John 3:8 , ROM 8:14-18 is witness that how we know get holy spirit, heb 12:23 put our name in book of life and power to raise our soul to heaven ROM 8:9-11. pure language is only speaking spirit words 1 corth 12:3 reguire for all beleivers! other thing Jesus want us go back original traditional church in the future 1 John 2:24-25, for example try this John 13:1-17 part off the Passover there many more other thing in church need to do .God bless!

I agree w/ you Minister Paul. Best teaching on Tongues! I feel Holy Spirit all over me. How could anyone believe speaking in GOD'S Holy Language is bad/evil? p.s. You are being so blessed w/ many breakthroughs & overcoming. I believe, imho, GOD is using all that come "against" you (esp. past few weeks), not only has been a blessing (not curse-as the enemy set out to do!),, for you (& wife), but a blessing for many of us who have stood by you in prayer & faith that truth shall be & has prevailed. JoyceDawn100 Joyce can I just ask you two questions firstly do you know that tongues (gibberish) is found in most pagan religions and was present in pagan religions long before Christianity, how do you explain that, as it cant be a counterfeit. The second question is how do you know an interpretation for a heavenly language is correct or accurate, if no one can verify it ? Don't get me wrong I believe in tongues at an earthly human language, but not gibberish.
My first experience of speaking in prayer language involved only a few syllables. When praying later about more freedom in this the Lord showed me I would need to use the little I had in order to develop more-told me not to look down on it because it was small or didn't sound like those of others.

From my person experience I was praying fervently in English one second and the next it was a clear transition into a foreign language. I spoke very boldly and in an unashamed state. My mind continued thinking what it wanted to say and me mouth spoke it without me having to do anything.

Just want to add my 2 cents. When I am in fervent prayer, I often run out of words in English and the Holy Spirit takes over and I start praying in the Spirit. I can pray longer than in the Spirit than in English. Praying in the Spirit releases deep thoughts from my heart. I reaLLY FEEL IT CARRIES MY PRAYERS TO THE THRONE OF GOD. There is a book by Jack Deere, former professor at Dallas seminary, SURPRISED BY THE SPIRIT, which recounts his experience from being a nonbeliever in healing and speaking in tongues to be transformed into a spirit filled, blood bought believer. We face a battle between our mind and our spirit. The secular world wants us to believe the mind is superior to the spirit; the spirit is plant in our heart, The reason there is so much heart disease is because the secular world seeks to alienate our spirit and that leaves our heart sore and full of pain. The speaker is Robert Morris, Gateway Church, Southlake, Texas...highly anointed.

I was borne (76 years ago) and raised in a Pentecostal church; when I was 16 I made Jesus the Lord of my life, and about 12 months later I was baptised in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. It is a blessed gift that God gives to His children to help them living more victorious lives, for one. I can submit many wonderful testimonies in this regard. This teaching by Pastor Robert Morris is as good as any that I've heard through the years, and I wish his congregation will take it seriously.
For me to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phillipians 1:21) for I am a member of the CHURCH OF CHRIST. I am proud to be a member of the Church of Christ.
Actually you ASK for the baptism in the Holy Ghost or ASK to receive according to Luke 11:11. Thats what I did in 2012. Tongues is the MANIFESTATION of RECEIVING the baptism IN the Holy Ghost. You don’t ask for tongues. You ask to RECEIVE the baptism in the Holy Ghost.
The emphasis is about surrendering to God for His Spirit to come into you...tongues will follow as proof and you will never doubt that you receive the Holy Ghost. You should then be baptized in Jesus' Name because that's the way Peter in the book of Acts, said to be baptized and that's what Jesus taught him i The Bible emphasis that your Power is in His Name...He said to do everything in "My Name!" If a church teaches any other way but the Bible way, then find a church that does teach it...find out what their articles of Faith is before you commit. The Bible talks of churches. paraphrased, "having a form of Godliness but denying the Power thereof...from such, turn away".
One should ask themselves why Satan is working so hard to convince them that this Gift is not from God? It must be pretty powerful indeed!! Think about it.
He never says it is least. Man interprets the Scripture as such. But here is Paul speaking about tongues.... "Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy." If he meant what you thought, why would he say this?

@@angellee61p 2 forms of tongues, 1 is personal prayer in tongues which is to God often alone but also in groups, 2nd is praying in tongues which will benefit a congregation or individual and this is when after what was spoken in tongues oneself or another interprets what was spoken in tongues.
I attended a church where they told me speaking in tongues was necessary for salvation. Today I know this is not true but at the time I didn't and this lie set me up for many years of confusion as I prayed for tongues that did not come. Here is what I learned. "Bipp bop shanda Tabu by dabita dabita" etc is not tongues; phrases and words like these are nonsense. Tongues is supposed to be a language. Tongues are not necessary for salvation. The Holy Spirit is imparted at salvation. It was by the power of God's great and wonderful Spirit that I was enabled to change. It was by His power that many of the sins that once looked so attractive to me no longer had any appeal. The inner man had changed. As I continue in the Lord I am being transformed further. I have never spoken in tongues save for that time period when I was being told to fake it till I made it, "Just talk, say anything and let God take your tongue!" So I faked it, never made it. People laid hands on me. I answered the alter call (even though I was already saved and didn't know it). At the alter call someone stood behind me and the preacher tried to push me backwards so I could fall into his arms. Others on the stage were on the floor supposedly slain in the Spirit. It didn't happen for me. I learned that this, too, is a false dynamic: in the Bible when people fall before God they invariably fall on their faces. Not backwards. I am a saved individual. I believe that one day I will be with the Lord. I have never spoken in tongues.
A believer isn't to pray to speak in tongues.They are to pray to recieve the Holy Spirit.Recieving the Holy Spirit IS the Holy Spirit baptism.Ask until He fills you.You will know it when He does and have others that have recieved and speak in tongues to pray with you.When you Know He is filling you with His Spirit just yield you tongue to the Spirit.It may just be you mumbling but keep it up.You will Know when He takes control of your tongue.When i first started speaking in this heavenly language, i knew i was because i heard myself.Never give up! This is brilliant! I now have a full and new understanding on it! I have been praying and fasting for 5 days now for baptism of holy spirit (Happened a couple of days ago) and gift of tongues. I can hear the words in my head, but am having trouble speaking them... making me think I hadn't been gifted yet with it. But now I am thinking I probably have! He kept telling me to keep being PATIENT (And to keep fasting until tomorrow) , and now I understand why! Am super glad I came across this!

Lord, I ask that if it is Your Will, that your Holy Spirit would present me with the gift of praying in tongues, that this gift would serve to edify my walk with You as your word says, and also that it would edify other believers. Help me mature in this topic, I wish to grow closer to your understanding, closer to your Word and your Spirit, because without You, I am nothing. Does anyone "sing" in tongues? Most of the time when I speak in tongues the Holy Spirit starts singing in tongues (through me). hee hee It always makes me smile deep inside. :)
Great message, the greatest gift I've received from God, is my salvation. The 2nd great gift is to pray in tongues. What a difference it make in your walk with God.

Years ago Pastor Jack Hayford gave a testimony about speaking in tongues. He was on a plane seated next to a man. As they talked he found that the man was not a believer and wasn't interested even in receiving a book from Jack. While they talked the Lord was prompting Jack to speak in tongues and Jack kept thinking the man would think him crazy , or how could it possibly help in any way. Finally Jack decided to do as the Lord was leading as this man was well versed in some very old languages, I believe of the Native Americans. Jack ask if he would mind hearing something and seeing if he might recognize it. The man did recognize it, not of the language he worked with but of an older language. He gave a small bit of what was said. Finally Jack confessed what he had spoken was actually prayer language and the man decided that he did want Jack to contact him and send him some information after all. I don't know if YT has a copy or not but it is worth hearing if you get the chance. I did this by memory so I hope that it is sufficiently accurate.
As i started watching i heard in my spirit that there's a connection between the language in the Garden and the spiritual tongues we are given , then he said it. God of restoration, Glory to HIM in the highest

1cor 14:5 says "I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, But I would rather have you prophesy." So it's true that the bible says speaking in tongues in a sermon isn't useful for other Christians but my point is that this man isn't correct when he says speaking in tongues is something men should understand because the bible says it isn't. It also says that speaking in tongues is something we should be doing as Christians and yes, by speaking in tongues is meant the thing men can't understand as,again, 1cor14:2 says.
Jeswinth Gabriel You're right, it can be useful to men if there someone to interpret. But it's still directed to God according to the bible. 1 Corinthians 14:2. "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God." Also, don't tell people to not speak in tongues, 1cor14:39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

The Baptism of the Holy SpIrit with the evidence of Speaking in Tongues is REAL.. It happened to me on the evening of Sunday, January 7th, 1996. The supernatural events that came prior and during the experience are too numerous to list here. Arguing about this Biblical happening with non-believers is fruitless ..but I know IT was from God and I think about that day almost constantly and wish that IT had lasted longer !!
if God's presence comes when u speak in tounges doesn't sound biblical to me because when we accept Christ as Savior the Holy Spirit is already within you at time of forgiveness. I have Jesus inside of me he lives in this temple. if God's presence comes when u speak in tounges doesn't sound biblical to me because when we accept Christ as Savior the Holy Spirit is already within you at time of forgiveness. That's probably just a demon... God doesn't listen to insane babble. The true gift of tongues is actual languages understood by native speakers OF those tongues. The Holy Spirit just makes you groan and moan, (and sometimes cry) since you don't know what to pray for... but you must ask JESUS for that gift (or at least beg forgiveness)... the Holy Spirit does not come uninvited --- or in any way besides directly from the Lord who made us... Jesus is in charge.

Here is pure Scripture: He who speaks in a tongue, edifies himself. He who prophesies, edifies the Church. Do not forbid anyone to speak in tongues. I'm glad I speak in tongues more than you all. I was baptised with the Holy Spirit and fire the same night I was born again (& water baptised). I spoke in tongues seconds before my water baptism, 45 minutes after my conversion. Over the past thirty years, I have interpreted heavenly languages and I have interpreted earthly language (given as prophesy in another native tongue). The interpretations have been 100% correct. I can say more, however I am glad I speak in tongues because it is the operation of the Spirit to help us in prayer and to break through the things of the flesh. The devil hates tongues.

The baptism of the holy spirit is the promise of the father (Luke 24:49); without it, there is no operation of the gifts.

I have attended a penticoastol church for 13 yrs, and I also was led to believe that I couldnt speak in tongues that they just come up on you, so since everyone in the church spoke and prayed in tongues, and prophcide I began to question within myself my walk with the Lord, I had repented and been baptized, and in the beginning proclaimed I had recieved and was filled with the holy ghost, But after awhile when I just didnt know how to speak in tongues, I thought maybe I wasn;t filled with the holy ghost, this has just uplifted me so much, thank you
So what we got here is another person giving praise to man & disregarding what the Word says. This pastor's exegesis is really bad. He does not even know that what Paul was saying to the church of cor. was that he was acting sarcastic with the cor. church & that what he was saying is that when you speak the mysteries of God , you are speaking to a god. You see they brought in all their false ways into the church & one of the problems was that they were all speaking out of order & the tongues was not the Biblical languages but was gibberish. Paul had nothing good to say about the way they were acting. The same way there is nothing good to say about all the chaos in the modern church today. I was wondering why I did not walk in power. I am saved and was baptized. I speak in tongues. I believe possibly I have never heard a greater teaching on the baptism in the spirit. Thank you Pastor Morris for such a powerful Teaching that I am sure holds my answer to truth. Praise God for leading me to this pastor. It’s been hard to find a pastor teaching all truth. When you speak in tongues are you spreading the Word to a non-believer or are you speaking during a congregation with an interpreter to spread the word you are saying in tongues, or are you speaking in tongues that the congregation can understand (no need for interpreter in this situation)?

@Frank Minta We can. It is the initial evidence of the overflowing Holy Spirit baptism. We recieve the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a direct result of the Holy Spirit baptism.

Please pray fervently for God to lead you to the church where He wants you to go and he may not say..."it's that church or this church"...you will most likely just walk through an open door "not physical door" that He opens for you and you will be surprised that it happened. Might be a person to show you but be sure to pray about it before you commit...take you time. We have moved a lot and had to seek out churches and found that although they teach Bible, they still may not be the right one for you. Hasn't happened every time but usually when we would walk into a church for the first time, we would just feel at home so we would know and may not feel it's the right one...in that case, we keep looking until it's right...we don't usually have to try more than one or two in familiar denominations...you can go to websites and look for their articles of Faith.

when the apostles asked Jesus how do we pray Jesus didn't say don't worry you will speak in tounges no he did not say that he said pray Our Father who arent in heaven. he never told them they would receive a prayer language. everyday when we pray we do speak in tounges it's our own language be it English, Spanish, Greek, whatever. but when we get to glory we all will be speaking in one language. Mark 16:15-17 'And JESUS said to them, "... And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they WILL SPEAK IN NEW TONGUES ..."
He missed the last half of the sentence. Note that verse 17 ends with a semicolon, not a period. The rest of the sentence is "...they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." I don't see this happening today. He also missed the part about "them that believe is in the aorist tense in the original Greek, meaning that it only applies to those who ALREADY believe, not to those who WILL believe. In other words, it only applied to the disciples to whom it was spoken, and not to anyone else.
u don't learn to speak tongues but u do learn to open your mouth to let the the holy spirit speak through you. If u don't open your mouth, what then? Do not forbid to speak in tongues.

I spent my entire life in pentecostal churches, until I had the good sense to STUDY the Scriptures. I have never heard anyone 'speak in tongues'. I've heard a lot of gibberish, a lot of babbling, but never someone speaking in an intelligible, human language that is foreign to them.
Thanks Mike. You are so right. The bible say, are all teachers? Do all prophesied? Do all speak in tongues? No! Paul says, he would rather speak 5 intelligent word than speak 10 thousand words in tongues. It just goes to show how much Paul thought about that issue. People need to read all of 1 Corinthians 14. Without cutting it into verses, picking and choosing what suits them. Praying in the Spirit is not tongues. We believers live, walk, worship God in the Spirit.
Thank you so much for this teaching. Years ago, I had stammering tongues. So when my pastor instructed the church to pray using spiritual language in our prayer closet, I didn’t know what to expect or if it will even happen since it had been so long. However, I began to pray in tongues (in my ears it sounds like another language) and my thought was that it doesn’t sound like everyone else’s then I began to wonder why I didn’t feel anything (like you said). In time (I have learned to accept and embrace the gift). Now that I know that I am praying in the Spirit, I will not wonder or fear.

I got tongue cancer in my early 30's and had it removed. At the time I worked with thinners (paint solvent) which dried my hands out. So every time I would turn the pages on my trusty King James I would get some of the ink on my tongue when I tried to moisten my fingers. Because the bible I had was produced in some dodgy place in Asia, it was somewhat poisonous. So now that I don't have a tongue how can I receive Holy glossolalia? Is there a way of miming or hand signing in tongues? What about expressive dance?

Where does it says in the Bible to teach others to speak in tongues, which is a gift from God? Only God has the authority to give any gift to his saints. Everything must be proven and must be for edification. No man on this earth has the authority over God to tell, teach nor choose people how to speak in tongues. God is the one who chooses who he sees fit to receive any gift he may give due to the saint having a personal spiritual relationship with Christ first. No man goes to God, but through by Christ only. (John 14:6) 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (1 Thessalonians 5:21) “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Corinthians 14: 26) 26. How is it then, brethren? When ye come together every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. (1 Corinthians 14:13) “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.” If anyone tells you that you must speak in tongues to prove you have the Holy Spirit, is simply not true. Everything must be proven to edify as God inspired doctrine says so. God gives gifts for certain reasons which to help to teach the gospel and help others to understand. Tongues was given to the disciples which was in another language that they didn't know how to speak, in order to preach the gospel to those who came to hear the gospel, so the people could understand in their own language. God send Christ, his son to this earth for a mission to teach the gospel for salvation to everyone which may have only understood in their own language, therefore Christs' disciples was given the gift to speak in other languages, which is mostly describe as tongues. Christ even explained to his disciples that all may not receive the same gifts during the time he walked the earth. (1 Corinthians 14:22) Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. (1 Corinthians 14:2) If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? (1 Corinthians 12:7-11) 7. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8. He never said he chooses or has ability to give this gift, the only way is to first be saved by receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and praying to God to be filled with the Holy Spirit and ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit be given you...it is a gift from God.

Acts 2:4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (To demonstrate to the disciples and to the unbelieving world that the Spirit had come in power on the church in a new way, the believers began to speak in languages they had never learned. However, understand that what they spoke were the dialects of the people from his own language. Acts 2;6 They did not speak meaningless babble or some unknown tongue; rather, they spoke the established languages of "devout men from every nation under heaven" that were present ( see Acts 2:9, 1 Cor. 14). I cannot find where the Bible states to be baptized in the Holy Spirit also. The Bible does talk about water baptism only and no where does it say 2 baptisms. Ephesians 4: 5, states, One Lord, one faith, one baptism. Tongues is a gift, and I do not understand why everyone only seeks that gift. What about the gift of giving, teaching, etc? God understands me perfectly in my language and i do not need a hidden language to speak to him.
There is a personal tongue for us to talk to God and then the other tongues for other people that need to be interpreted. I Cortinthians 14:14-15 Babble is people like you who don't understand the completeness of the gift of tongues but blather about it on places like this. Carefully study i Corinthians 12 & 14.
Haven't you heard from the pastor here? Our languages are contaminated with vulgarity. The Pastor used an expression: the only language which is not "profane" is the language of God. You pray the way you want or can, but the Holy Spirit knows it better, so it is really effective. Summarising: If you think you know better - you are not really a person of God, you try to be an authority yourself, you know nothing about the submission, your pride can kill you! (Spiritually or maybe even physically - when you drive with an extreme confidence). Pride! Big sin! Can you listen? Those who have ears.... Do you have them?

My friends daughter had one leg 3 inches longer than the other and she went up for prayer and right in front of everyone, her leg grew. I had a very powerful encounter with Jesus when I ACCEPTED HIM AS LORD AND SAVIOR WHERE i FELT THE HOLY SPIRIT ENTER ME WITH SUCH JOY AND PEACE. A few years later I received the Gift or baptism of the Holy Spirit and it was a similar experience to my accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I did speak in tongues and felt the same peace and joy from the Holy Spirit. I have no doubts that this is real. Mostly I pray in tongues privately when I don't know how to pray and I need a word from the Holy Spirit. I've received many specific words from the Lord this way that came to pass as the Holy Spirit said.

I am 69 now, and as I look back to my beginning of receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, everything this pastor said is true and happened to me, up till I became more proficient in my prayer language. Today I pray both with my mind and in the spirit up to 3 hours straight. Many , many times during prayer in the spirit, I break down and cry my heart out. I keep a prayer book, just like in the movie "War Room". Many have called me a prayer warrior and get prayer requests thru another person. It is growing too fast. All the prayer requests I pray are in the spirit. I will tell you this, There really is a difference doing this with your mind vs. Spirit is true.

In some year I do not remember 1985- 1988 in Russia one family from USA visit a church and I ask God to let to speak in American , even did not know that time they speak in English . By faith I start singing in other tong as Holy Host gave me utterance . After prayer an American women start speak to me loud with a big expression but I have no clue what is she talking about. She realized that is not from me and thro translator told to congregation what I sad. They heard their names , was a word of prophecy to them , very good encouragement to congregation in English . After service was over I came to them and thro translator ask what accent was when I was singing . They sad I was singing in English with American accent. After that happened I 've got strong desire to learn English not because I was going to be here but because God answer my request I start love English.I did not know that in couple years we will be on this continent That was preparation to move to another country not even know about this event at that time . I would ask if someone was bit win those years in Gatchino near Petersburg Russia and remember that case let me know on this chat .
Yes, I have heard that the more you pray in the Spirit the better..it can prepare you for satan's attacks also..it's a perfect prayer..I wish I could do it even for one hour! For me, i had to let go of the fear about how it would sound and all the negative voices in my head about it and really trust. I sounded like a baby the first time i spoke in tounges (which was only a month ago) but i felt the holy spirit. My tongues are getting stronger the more i pray in the spirit. It's been a true blessing - ive felt the Holy Spirit like never before!! Its almost like the Holy Spirit was a seed in me and speaking in tongues was the water. I received the baptism of the Holyghost more than forty years ogo at age 9 spoke in tongues for forty five minutes .Since that time I have spoke several different languages,which is another gift called divers tongues,,A few years ago I had a lot of junk in my life, I had no where to turn,my pastor spoke to me gave me sound advice.I was in a tight spot,and saw no way out feeling broken and all alone way from my family the Lord began dealing with my spirit man the Lord he began reminding me of the anointing he had given to me.After counseling with my pastor ,leaving his office I seen elder of the assembly I once worshipped with ,and asked to go to the altar and pray with me as soon as I raised my hands holyspirit fell on me brining me to my knees ,I had took the liberty to bodly approach the throne of grace,I was speaking in tongues as the spirit of God gave the utterance complaining to Abba father asking why these things had happen to me ,after hearing my supplication he answered ,telling me he created every thing and there is nothing created he didn't create,even the hills.I believe the Lord was telling me he alone is sovereign, however I wanted more so I yelled out more!After that I began singing and dancing in the spirit than I sang with understanding the Lord interpreting what I was singing in tongues, just simple child like songs,after all this time still just child in his eyes.Hashem Yahshua

AWSOME TEACHING! This is a confirmation. I just told my husband, I was purposing to pray no less than ONE hour daily in the Spirit first. The Word says to prayer with ALL prayers and supplications: Eph. 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, I Cor 14:15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful, and Rom. 8:26-27 states, Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself (himself) maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. THERE IS NO ERROR WHEN PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT. Unlike what many churches argue about, Paul said to FORBID NOT to speak with tongues (edify yourself-building yourself up on your most holy faith): I Cor 14:39-40, Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. Satan wants us to continue stumbling over this, because we'll stay divided, and as the man of God said, praying in the Spirit puts us in ONE ACCORD, and he knows the power of unity.
I grew up in a loving Christian home - the best! While seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus some of my siblings began attending a deeply Pentecostal church. Speaking in tongues was a big part of their Christian walk so much so that they felt that those who did not speak in tongues did not have the Holy Spirit. I did not attend the church, but I did try on several occasions to "just let myself go" and began uttering sounds. The whole experience left me flat. It bothered me deeply, but in one quiet time in the Word I kept reading John 14 over. "If you love me, ... I will give you a comforter..." Tongues was not part of the bargain. Time went on and this church my siblings attended fell apart through gross sin of the pastor. It tore up my family, hurt their Christian walk and deeply hurt my precious mother and father. Since that experience, I've never given much thought to tongues - until now. This and Pastor Morris' series on "The God I Never Knew" has once more awakened my interest in this gift. Not convinced yet, but I'me seeking.

I would like to offer up my interpretation of this. I must say this pastor did a very good job of explaining as I needed a little clarification. I received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues many years ago. Now the first time it happened I was on an encounter retreat and the whole purpose was to prepare yourself by bringing up everything before God and then on the last day they would baptize in the Holy Spirit. By then we were ready and I didn't go to the front like everyone else did and kind of stood back and one of the men said to me you don't have to go up there if you don't want to just raise your arms and start praising Jesus. No sooner than I got the words thank you Jesus out of my mouth that I felt something in the pit of my stomach almost like I was floating and my ears sounded muffled and I could hear myself saying words other than what I was forming in my mouth. Now I won't say it jumped up out of me but I didn't try to speak in other languages this time as I was praising Jesus in my normal language but what came out of me was definitely not what I was saying. It was the most glorious feeling I've ever felt in my life. The only confusion I ever had was since then anytime I have prayed in the spirit it has been of my own doing and I was never sure if what I was doing was right because as Paul says my understanding was unfruitful. but as I look back there has never been a doubt of what happened to me on that day it's just my own understanding has made me doubt if what I was doing later was the same thing since it doesn't come about in the same manner as the first time I received it. This kind of clarifies and clears things up for me but I want you to know that there is no doubt of what happened to me that day and it's often what I turn to when I start to have a small lack in my faith and just need to be reminded of my salvation when the enemy tries to make me doubt things. I know it happens for people differently but I was just hoping to be able to help someone or even receive some input from someone with a similar situation. I truly received the holy Spirit one day that gave me utterance while I was speaking English and praising Jesus but after that when I do it I am trying to speak in my prayer language so I guess that's where it can get a little confusing to people and make them doubt but I guess that's why Paul says what he said about his understanding being unfruitful. Anyway feel free to add anything and I hope this helps someone.
I was a Baptist for 44 years before I realized that you can be filled with the Holy Spirit and receive tongues in this modern day. I was always taught it was not for today. Thank God I finally read the word for myself and sought the Holy Spirit which led me to the truth. I am so thankful I know the truth now. The truth is so obvious but it is like many denominations are blind. I was too. I am no longer in a denomination, I just follow Gods word and the Holy Spirit. I found a church that is awake and not caught up in mans wisdom. The Bible is 100% the truth. No adding or subtracting mans opinions.....Read 1 Corinthians chapters 13 and 14 for confirmation.

The second question is how do you know an interpretation for a heavenly language is correct or accurate, if no one can verify it ? My first experience of speaking in prayer language involved only a few syllables. When praying later about more freedom in this the Lord showed me I would need to use the little I had in order to develop more-told me not to look down on it because it was small or didn't sound like those of others.

From my person experience I was praying fervently in English one second and the next it was a clear transition into a foreign language. I spoke very boldly and in an unashamed state. My mind continued thinking what it wanted to say and me mouth spoke it without me having to do anything.

Just want to add my 2 cents. When I am in fervent prayer, I often run out of words in English and the Holy Spirit takes over and I start praying in the Spirit. I can pray longer than in the Spirit than in English. Praying in the Spirit releases deep thoughts from my heart. I reaLLY FEEL IT CARRIES MY PRAYERS TO THE THRONE OF GOD. There is a book by Jack Deere, former professor at Dallas seminary, SURPRISED BY THE SPIRIT, which recounts his experience from being a nonbeliever in healing and speaking in tongues to be transformed into a spirit filled, blood bought believer. We face a battle between our mind and our spirit. The secular world wants us to believe the mind is superior to the spirit; the spirit is plant in our heart, The reason there is so much heart disease is because the secular world seeks to alienate our spirit and that leaves our heart sore and full of pain.

I was borne (76 years ago) and raised in a Pentecostal church; when I was 16 I made Jesus the Lord of my life, and about 12 months later I was baptised in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. It is a blessed gift that God gives to His children to help them living more victorious lives, for one. I can submit many wonderful testimonies in this regard. This teaching by Pastor Robert Morris is as good as any that I've heard through the years, and I wish his congregation will take it seriously.

Actually you ASK for the baptism in the Holy Ghost or ASK to receive according to Luke 11:11. Thats what I did in 2012. Tongues is the MANIFESTATION of RECEIVING the baptism IN the Holy Ghost. You don’t ask for tongues. You ask to RECEIVE the baptism in the Holy Ghost.

I attended a church where they told me speaking in tongues was necessary for salvation. Today I know this is not true but at the time I didn't and this lie set me up for many years of confusion as I prayed for tongues that did not come.
Here is what I learned. "Bipp bop shanda Tabu by dabita dabita" etc is not tongues; phrases and words like these are nonsense. Tongues is supposed to be a language.
Tongues are not necessary for salvation.
The Holy Spirit is imparted at salvation. It was by the power of God's great and wonderful Spirit that I was enabled to change. It was by His power that many of the sins that once looked so attractive to me no longer had any appeal. The inner man had changed. As I continue in the Lord I am being transformed further.
I have never spoken in tongues save for that time period when I was being told to fake it till I made it, "Just talk, say anything and let God take your tongue!"
So I faked it, never made it. People laid hands on me. I answered the alter call (even though I was already saved and didn't know it). At the alter call someone stood behind me and the preacher tried to push me backwards so I could fall into his arms. Others on the stage were on the floor supposedly slain in the Spirit. It didn't happen for me.
I learned that this, too, is a false dynamic: in the Bible when people fall before God they invariably fall on their faces. Not backwards.
I am a saved individual. I believe that one day I will be with the Lord. I have never spoken in tongues.

This is brilliant! I now have a full and new understanding on it! I have been praying and fasting for 5 days now for baptism of holy spirit (Happened a couple of days ago) and gift of tongues. I can hear the words in my head, but am having trouble speaking them... making me think I hadn't been gifted yet with it. But now I am thinking I probably have! Lord, I ask that if it is Your Will, that your Holy Spirit would present me with the gift of praying in tongues, that this gift would serve to edify my walk with You as your word says, and also that it would edify other believers. Years ago Pastor Jack Hayford gave a testimony about speaking in tongues. He was on a plane seated next to a man. As they talked he found that the man was not a believer and wasn't interested even in receiving a book from Jack. While they talked the Lord was prompting Jack to speak in tongues and Jack kept thinking the man would think him crazy , or how could it possibly help in any way. Finally Jack decided to do as the Lord was leading as this man was well versed in some very old languages, I believe of the Native Americans. Jack ask if he would mind hearing something and seeing if he might recognize it. The man did recognize it, not of the language he worked with but of an older language. He gave a small bit of what was said. Finally Jack confessed what he had spoken was actually prayer language and the man decided that he did want Jack to contact him and send him some information after all. I don't know if YT has a copy or not but it is worth hearing if you get the chance. I did this by memory so I hope that it is sufficiently accurate.

1cor 14:5 says
"I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, But I would rather have you prophesy."
So it's true that the bible says speaking in tongues in a sermon isn't useful for other Christians but my point is that this man isn't correct when he says speaking in tongues is something men should understand because the bible says it isn't.
It also says that speaking in tongues is something we should be doing as Christians and yes, by speaking in tongues is meant the thing men can't understand as,again, 1cor14:2 says.

The Baptism of the Holy SpIrit with the evidence of Speaking in Tongues is REAL.. It happened to me on the evening of Sunday, January 7th, 1996. The supernatural events that came prior and during the experience are too numerous to list here.
Arguing about this Biblical happening with non-believers is fruitless ..but I know IT was from God and I think about that day almost constantly and wish that IT had lasted longer !!

That's probably just a demon... God doesn't listen to insane babble. The true gift of tongues is actual languages understood by native speakers OF those tongues. The Holy Spirit just makes you groan and moan, (and sometimes cry) since you don't know what to pray for... but you must ask JESUS for that gift (or at least beg forgiveness)... the Holy Spirit does not come uninvited --- or in any way besides directly from the Lord who made us... Jesus is in charge.

I was baptised with the Holy Spirit and fire the same night I was born again (& water baptised). I spoke in tongues seconds before my water baptism, 45 minutes after my conversion.
Over the past thirty years, I have interpreted heavenly languages and I have interpreted earthly language (given as prophesy in another native tongue). The interpretations have been 100% correct.
I can say more, however I am glad I speak in tongues because it is the operation of the Spirit to help us in prayer and to break through the things of the flesh.

I have attended a penticoastol church for 13 yrs, and I also was led to believe that I couldnt speak in tongues that they just come up on you, so since everyone in the church spoke and prayed in tongues, and prophcide I began to question within myself my walk with the Lord, I had repented and been baptized, and in the beginning proclaimed I had recieved and was filled with the holy ghost, But after awhile when I just didnt know how to speak in tongues, I thought maybe I wasn;t filled with the holy ghost, this has just uplifted me so much, thank you

So what we got here is another person giving praise to man & disregarding what the Word says. This pastor's exegesis is really bad. He does not even know that what Paul was saying to the church of cor. was that he was acting sarcastic with the cor. church & that what he was saying is that when you speak the mysteries of God , you are speaking to a god. You see they brought in all their false ways into the church & one of the problems was that they were all speaking out of order & the tongues was not the Biblical languages but was gibberish. Paul had nothing good to say about the way they were acting. The same way there is nothing good to say about all the chaos in the modern church today. I was wondering why I did not walk in power. I am saved and was baptized. I speak in tongues. I believe possibly I have never heard a greater teaching on the baptism in the spirit. Thank you Pastor Morris for such a powerful Teaching that I am sure holds my answer to truth. Praise God for leading me to this pastor. It’s been hard to find a pastor teaching all truth. When you speak in tongues are you spreading the Word to a non-believer or are you speaking during a congregation with an interpreter to spread the word you are saying in tongues, or are you speaking in tongues that the congregation can understand (no need for interpreter in this situation)?

@Frank Minta We can. It is the initial evidence of the overflowing Holy Spirit baptism. We recieve the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a direct result of the Holy Spirit baptism.

Thank you for this video. I have been struggling as to whether this is something I should do or not. I do not want to be in error and displease the Father.
Please pray fervently for God to lead you to the church where He wants you to go and he may not say..."it's that church or this church"...you will most likely just walk through an open door "not physical door" that He opens for you and you will be surprised that it happened. Might be a person to show you but be sure to pray about it before you commit...take you time. We have moved a lot and had to seek out churches and found that although they teach Bible, they still may not be the right one for you. Hasn't happened every time but usually when we would walk into a church for the first time, we would just feel at home so we would know and may not feel it's the right one...in that case, we keep looking until it's right...we don't usually have to try more than one or two in familiar denominations...you can go to websites and look for their articles of Faith.

Jesus did tell his followers to wait in Jerusalem for the Promise of the Father. Do some research into what that is.

He missed the last half of the sentence. Note that verse 17 ends with a semicolon, not a period. The rest of the sentence is "...they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." I don't see this happening today.
He also missed the part about "them that believe is in the aorist tense in the original Greek, meaning that it only applies to those who ALREADY believe, not to those who WILL believe. In other words, it only applied to the disciples to whom it was spoken, and not to anyone else.
u don't learn to speak tongues but u do learn to open your mouth to let the the holy spirit speak through you. If u don't open your mouth, what then? Do not forbid to speak in tongues.

I spent my entire life in pentecostal churches, until I had the good sense to STUDY the Scriptures. I have never heard anyone 'speak in tongues'. I've heard a lot of gibberish, a lot of babbling, but never someone speaking in an intelligible, human language that is foreign to them.
Thanks Mike. You are so right. The bible say, are all teachers? Do all prophesied? Do all speak in tongues? No! Paul says, he would rather speak 5 intelligent word than speak 10 thousand words in tongues. It just goes to show how much Paul thought about that issue. People need to read all of 1 Corinthians 14. Without cutting it into verses, picking and choosing what suits them. Praying in the Spirit is not tongues. We believers live, walk, worship God in the Spirit.

So when my pastor instructed the church to pray using spiritual language in our prayer closet, I didn’t know what to expect or if it will even happen since it had been so long. However, I began to pray in tongues (in my ears it sounds like another language) and my thought was that it doesn’t sound like everyone else’s then I began to wonder why I didn’t feel anything (like you said). In time (I have learned to accept and embrace the gift). Now that I know that I am praying in the Spirit, I will not wonder or fear.

I got tongue cancer in my early 30's and had it removed. At the time I worked with thinners (paint solvent) which dried my hands out. So every time I would turn the pages on my trusty King James I would get some of the ink on my tongue when I tried to moisten my fingers. Because the bible I had was produced in some dodgy place in Asia, it was somewhat poisonous. So now that I don't have a tongue how can I receive Holy glossolalia? Is there a way of miming or hand signing in tongues? What about expressive dance?

speaking in tongues is the closed communication between you and God.
There is a public gift of tongues which should be Interpreted, there is a private gift of tongues for talking just to God.
It is channeling demons, or gibberish from a low IQ academic failure.

Where does it says in the Bible to teach others to speak in tongues, which is a gift from God? Only God has the authority to give any gift to his saints. Everything must be proven and must be for edification. No man on this earth has the authority over God to tell, teach nor choose people how to speak in tongues. God is the one who chooses who he sees fit to receive any gift he may give due to the saint having a personal spiritual relationship with Christ first. No man goes to God, but through by Christ only.

If anyone tells you that you must speak in tongues to prove you have the Holy Spirit, is simply not true. Everything must be proven to edify as God inspired doctrine says so. God gives gifts for certain reasons which to help to teach the gospel and help others to understand. Tongues was given to the disciples which was in another language that they didn't know how to speak, in order to preach the gospel to those who came to hear the gospel, so the people could understand in their own language. God send Christ, his son to this earth for a mission to teach the gospel for salvation to everyone which may have only understood in their own language, therefore Christs' disciples was given the gift to speak in other languages, which is mostly describe as tongues. Christ even explained to his disciples that all may not receive the same gifts during the time he walked the earth.

Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

If anyone is speaking in an unknown utterance and can't interpret what they are saying, be very careful because you could be saying something that is an abomination to God. Satan can deceive you in to thinking it is the Spirit of God. God is not of confusion.
For anyone who listens to any man speak of Jesus Christ gospel that his father send him to teach, let it be proven and always seek the truth from Christ. Build a personal relationship with Christ and he will lead you to God's promises which God has promised Christ. Always pray to God in the name of Jesus, to ask him to help you to understand his truth. Always seek his truth, not what man says out of his mouth and always have an open heart to God's truth which is by his son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Everything we need to know for salvation is in the written doctrine that is inspired by God, the Holy Bible. Just trust Christ and the truth will set you free.
The most important thing to do is, read the Bible much as you can and pray for understanding.

Paul said we are to eagerly desire all of the gifts...including Tongues. Why don't you desire this gift?
He never said he chooses or has ability to give this gift, the only way is to first be saved by receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and praying to God to be filled with the Holy Spirit and ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit be given you...it is a gift from God.

Israel accomplished that 2000 years ago, when they rejected Christ and stoned Stephen.
Acts 2:4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (To demonstrate to the disciples and to the unbelieving world that the Spirit had come in power on the church in a new way, the believers began to speak in languages they had never learned. However, understand that what they spoke were the dialects of the people from his own language. Acts 2;6 They did not speak meaningless babble or some unknown tongue; rather, they spoke the established languages of "devout men from every nation under heaven" that were present ( see Acts 2:9, 1 Cor. 14). I cannot find where the Bible states to be baptized in the Holy Spirit also. The Bible does talk about water baptism only and no where does it say 2 baptisms. Ephesians 4: 5, states, One Lord, one faith, one baptism. Tongues is a gift, and I do not understand why everyone only seeks that gift. What about the gift of giving, teaching, etc? God understands me perfectly in my language and i do not need a hidden language to speak to him.

Haven't you heard from the pastor here? Our languages are contaminated with vulgarity. The Pastor used an expression: the only language which is not "profane" is the language of God. You pray the way you want or can, but the Holy Spirit knows it better, so it is really effective. Summarising: If you think you know better - you are not really a person of God, you try to be an authority yourself, you know nothing about the submission, your pride can kill you! (Spiritually or maybe even physically - when you drive with an extreme confidence). Pride! Big sin! Can you listen? Those who have ears.... Do you have them?

+John Riddle Prove it to whom? Yes, I lay hands on sick people and in the name of Jesus I watched them be healed instantly. My friends daughter had one leg 3 inches longer than the other and she went up for prayer and right in front of everyone, her leg grew. I have spoken in tongues and I have felt the Holy Spirit of God physically whenever I would pray to Him and not like "oh, I think I feel something" but like being hit with a ton of bricks but amazingly wonderful. So yes it has been proven to me in many ways. I could go on and on. Like I said, seek Him and you too will see

On Pentecost day all the apostle spoke the same dialect but everyone there heard what they were saying and understood what they said in there language. Tongues is a sign for them that do not speak your language not something to toss around like you all do
Tongues is used for more than just a sign. But I do agree, it is tossed around as you put it.

I Corinthians 14, you got to read the whole charter. He just picked and stopped where it suits.
Many believers don't realize that 1Cor. ch.12 and ch.14 are talking about two different manifestations of speaking in" tongues". The first is as the initial evidence that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit, their private prayer language, and a sign to those who don't believe. How it is a sign is that unbelievers is that they hear and understand in their own language.But "tongues" is one spiritual language that God allows some to hear and understand in their own language.The second manifestation is the gift of "tongues" that is to be accompanied by a believer that has the gift of interpretation for the edification of a church body.The first example edifys the speaker only.
