This is the "dream match" format. The thing about "dream matches", if no one cares about the participants, or who wins, if no one feels special, it won't be sustainable. Even if Bryan has some goodwill stocked up, or people just respect his athletic abilities, between the ropes, or his character, you need people to care. That'd be like if DC and Marvel announced another crossover, after 24 years. Fans would be hype, debates would go off the rails, but the matchup is the Metal Men vs the New Warriors. The pages would be all action and drama, even some deep cut continuity, here and there, but would people care? I don't think so.

I’m still puzzled that Bryan is on his last full time year and instead of using it to fuel multiple interesting feuds before the finale he’s become an afterthought(He’s below MJF as champ, the EVP angle, Mercedes, Jericho, etc).
I had shingles years ago. It was the worst physical pain I ever had. It was like being stabbed by an invisible knife every few seconds for weeks in the affected areas regardless of what I was doing or not doing. Couldn't sleep or go anywhere. I wasn't able to function and lost a lot of sleep and money. Still no idea how I even got it.
It's caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, once you've had it, it's in you for life. No one knows what causes the virus to reactivate.

I had shingles when I was about 30. It wasn’t painful at the site at all but it was the most brain-melting unbelievable itch I’ve ever experienced in my life. The only pain it caused was in my neck which just felt like the day after a minor car accident. I went to an urgent care after a few days, the doctor diagnosed it right away, prescribed me a week’s worth of Valtrex and it was gone after a few days.
From what i understand, the shingles virus exists in ppl who had chicken pox when they were younger, and it kicks in when they're older.

Shingles can trigger in any number of ways including stress related. My dad got them many years ago after getting rear ended in a parking lot and his doctor told him that could have did it.

I don't think so, he is just happy being in AEW. And WWE already found his successor in Ilja Dragonov who is more stiff yet very safe in the ring.

I love Bryan, but when it got out there that WWE gave him a little creative control, and he got himself a PPV match w Drew Gulak in March 2020, I knew Bryan needed someone else handlng him.

Shingo is REALLY good. I've been following him since 2006. He's got a pretty storied career but Tony doesn't give enough of afuck to actually tell anyone who Shingo is.
What's even more frustrating is that Shingo has had ROH matches. Tony has access to the entire ROH library and won't even put forth the effort to make a little video package. So as a Shingo fan, I'm just bewildered why you'd present him like this.

Jim has it spot on here. Bryan just has these matches with nobodies now. He's one of my favourite wrestlers but I can't remember the last match of his I cared about because he never has a feud anymore.
If AEW isn't doing a proper job hyping the guest wrestlers up, then I can't blame you for not caring about Takagi. But as someone who follows the Japanese scene, Takagi is one of the absolute best wrestlers of the past ten years. This match excited me more than any other on the card did.
Daniel Bryan is a mark for Japanese wrestling…These matches are just self-indulgent for him and to live out his markish dreams before retiring instead of putting people over, drawing ratings, selling tickets, etc. like he did in WWE

Man! The difference between the two wrestling products becomes even more evident when they have simultaneous PPVs. While WWE is constantly putting out bangers, AEW is failing to get audiences interested in matches involving generational talents like Danielson.
Danielson is a mediocre midcarder and always has been.

Danielson going out his way to talk down on his WWE run has to feel like a slap in the face to the management over there. The dude got to go over three certified Hall of Famer's and win the unified belt at wrestlemania and he's pretending like the Indie shit is more significant in his career
Not to mention it was an uphill battle with Vince to get him to accept him.

I was a big Daniel Bryan fan in WWE, but I’m annoyed at how much he’s squandered the legacy that he built as a top star. He feels like a nobody now. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels would wrestle people lower on the card on occasion in ‘97, but they made sure they were presented like main eventers at all times and the people they were wrestling were being presented as big deals or future stars.
I don’t particularly care if he’s having fun or not because it’s his job. It’s a hell of a lot better than any job I had, but it’s his job. I’m pretty sure Night Ranger gets tired of playing “Sister Christian” at every state and county fair for the past 20 years, but the people demand it. Give Danielsen 1 spot per match that’s his idea and then make him act like one of the biggest stars in wrestling of the last 13 years the rest of the match.

When guys like Sting announced his retirement, you knew that the roadmap (in theory) was meant to be this enormous send-off, and it was.
Bryan Danielson announced that this is his last year, and after All In, he's all out. That isn't that far off from now, which brings the question... who in the hell is either making him look good right now, or who in the hell is he going to put over right now that is going to carry the company/next generation?
As Bryan Danielson has said few times, while he is grateful to be part of huge arenas and headline WrestleMania, he would still be completely OK to wrestle in smaller venues or even in indie gyms. Having a "bucket list" is a personal choice and all good but when you are a huge star, why wouldn't you either try to incorporate some sort of storyline if you want to wrestle someone or if it doesn't a make any sense then just do your "bucket list match" at a gym. But then again, AEW is NOT in a business to make money. They are All Friendship Wrestling who are playing with a billionaire's money to check off their "buck list" and it all starts at the top where Tony Khan himself is just collecting his childhood action figures in real life alive forms.

Indi Hartwell is more over than Aubrey, and by extension, the AEW roster.
If a referee is more over than your wrestlers, there is absolutely no context where that's good.

The problem with delivering "dream matches" every ppv is it gets stale. The appeal and concept of dream matches goes away.
And sometimes, these dream matches are better left alone to the fans' imaginations.

Sting vs Taker
AJ vs HBK
HBK vs Rock
HBK vs Eddie
Etc

Danielson is the best wrestler on AEW, but everything he does is lost when you have Aubrey Ed as a ref. Sure this was the best match on the card, just the spite of Meltzer and Oceanspreay. The only funny thing is Danielson says he doesn't care about the world title anymore but is in the Finals of his own. Plus Swerve/Danielson is a far better match than Swerve/Hangma'am for 100th time.

Every match is exactly the same, trade shots, don’t sell anything, twirps beat big guys, help each other do stupid acrobatic moves, just brutal to watch, I just can’t watch a full show, gotta skip through most of it. Now both companies do this crap: everyone in multi person matches just hangs out outside while 2 people have their spot for a few minutes,someone gets the upper hand and then someone else comes in and they have their spot while everyone still hangs out outside the ring. I swear at money in the bank women’s match most of them were outside the ring the whole match sitting on the floor waiting their turn to get in the ring, I’m getting sick of watching this shit, WWE gotta stop that crap, they are better than that, just hate it. Brutal
Typical Brian Danielson finish with a tapout after a false finish m that is as flat as a plate full of piss.
Bryan and Kingston have some of the worst match finishes i have ever seen. Just constantly not knowing when to pull the trigger and end the match. Like this match should have ended with the Busaiko knee. That was the big spot and the crowd was super into it. Hit the knee but then had to do more shit.
Danielson is going to have a career ending injury, or worse, if he continues wrestling the way he does.
Danielson can’t retire soon enough. All of his supposed “dream matches” are all the same. I’m sick to death of watching him fake an injury like his literal brain damage is some kind of joke. Doing it during the Owen was specifically distasteful.

I know Jim dislikes Jay's slap punches but on top of those ladders on Sat night. Jay was looking like he was Punching L.A Knight and L.A in return was open hand slapping Jay. I hope Jim is going to call that out in the M.I.T.B review. Jay has worked to improve. L.A lost a bit of realism on sat night.
