@@jamesbyworth9938 by robots, I'm not referring to humanoid robots. The reason why you don't want humans in the ship, is due to inertia. Without physical human bodies, you can accelerate make other maneuvers that the human body can't withstand. If you can digitize someone you can make a backup copy of the data in case the working copy is destroyed. Using that technology you could duplicate your best warriors and scientists as well or make improved composites of them. Being able to digitize and reconstitute people is basically a human 3D printer.
I think by "digitize" they mean that they can do a mind upload. Body goes essentially brain-dead and on life support while the conscious mind is in the box. Reversing it puts the conscious mind back in the body that it departed from to begin with (and maybe have the ability to clone in the case that the original body is destroyed while the mind is not there).
People thinking like this miss so much nuance it is HILARIOUS. Each clone has different experiences. They would no longer be the same person within DAYS. Considering how military operations are, this means your clones would be years apart, or go months between combat, and would very quickly adopt new habits. What you experience matters so much to humanity that you couldn't just pump out clones. You also forget another point of problem. The human brain is complex as hell. They upload and download it in one complete form. If they copied it there is always a chance of degredation or corruption. Like with ALL digitized files, go ahead, make a million copies of anything and a decent enough chunk of them will have problems, see this all the time with games where people need to have file integrity scans and replacements sent...why do you think Steam even has the damn option to check your files?! Only now this is a person's mind and you just permenantly screwed up their brain. This is why you would never copy it.
@@chrislaf89 You can't do that though, information cannot be moved it can only be copied. i.e. the copy isn't you. For you nothing changes. It's like moving a file from one hard drive to another it's really just copying the file and deleting the original the file is not moved at all. If you did that to a person the original would actually be dead and the copy would think it was them but there would be no continuity of consciousness from the original and the copy.
