Jackie, this was so much fun to get a peek at your "weird" box, and see some of the wonderful stuff you've made when your "urge to create" hits you! In my opinion, many of the pieces were frame ready art (like the 5 minute collage you made) and don't belong shoved down in a box! I am going to commit to finding the time to respond to my "urge to create" instead of scratching that itch by buying more art supplies! I have done way too much retail therapy and not enough art therapy the past few years, and now my studio is overflowing! xoxoxoxo
My heart goes pitter patter when I hear about studios overflowing with supplies 😂. I am guilty of over-buying supplies as well. Last year my husband was working in Philadelphia, and on a visit there I went into a Dick Blick store. Big mistake. BIG. I ended up buying a carry on bag for my trip home. You know I could have bought all of it from DB online, but the aisles are so seductive! Thank you for your kind words about my box of weird. 🥰
Oh Deanna, how I know the temptation of buying art supplies instead of shopping in my own stash and just letting go and create. Thanks to Jackie, we got a very motivating model, right?! So nice of you, admitting this. Perhaps we can cope the challenge together 😂🥰.
@@brittahansen8688 Yes, it has been quite the challenge for me to stop buying buying buying art supplies!! I watch videos of such great artists creating wonderful works (like Jackie : ) and I write down every supply they use in their process (that I don't already own) and I order those supplies ASAP! It is so shameful, but once I get my &$%^ together and get into my studio for some real art making, I can literally use any medium I want to use, and I have the best supplies available in each medium. There should be NO EXCUSE for me, ever!!
@@PaintedPaperStudio OH Jackie, I don't know how you managed to ever get out of the Blick store!! They opened a new Jerry's Artarama here in Dallas last year, and I have really exercised great self-control in staying away from there, I've only been twice!! But I pass it every time I come home from my son's house, and it beckons me so loudly!!
So many beautiful "weirdies" in your box, Jackie! The one at 1:36 is eye-candy and the next three pieces as well. They would look lovely as part of a gallery wall 😍. I love collaging and this video is such an awesome motivational video! I hope you will unbox more "weirdies" for us 🙂. Aloha & a great start to your week from Berlin ❤🧡💛💚💜
Oh Jackie, how I loved this video! 🥳 Allowing yourself to create "weird" collages is such a liberating idea. And the time limit of 5 minutes shuts up the inner critic in such an effective and fabulous way, that I can see him crawling away on all his fours 🤣. I didn´t know today was World Collage Day. Thank you for sharing this news and this video. A big hug to you from happy Britta 🥰
Yes, I only learned of World Collage Day a week or so ago from a viewer here. I think it's a fantastic idea and you know I'll have something planned for it next year 😍. And you are right about the 5-minute window - there's no time for logic to take over. Big hugs to you, too Britta, and I hope Bavaria is starting to warm up. 🥰
Yep, glue stick for me, too, on smaller pieces of paper. Can totally relate to that "eww" sensation of stickiness you can't get off your fingers. Especially when I was recently incorporating fabric glue on some ribbon, and I swear I was pulling dried glue shards off my hands for hours afterwards! Thanks for alerting us to World Collage Day! I'll be observing it later on with my art group❤
YES! The shards of dried glue is so icky. When I was little, I remember putting Elmer's glue on my hand, letting it dry and then trying to pull it off in one try. Back then I loved it, now...not so much. 🤢
Just thank you ❤ i have always felt that my art was my safe, well lighted space. i am so glad to see you encouraging others to have personal art. My tip for sticky fingers is a sponge in a bowl sitting on a studio towel so when my fingers or the tiny fingers of my great niece get sticky we have a quick fix to sticky... i am not a big fan of sticky lol. Have a lovely day and ty again. ❤
GENIUS!!! What a great tip, Cindy - I'm going to have to start doing that (and sharing it)! It makes me so happy to know that you create art with your great niece - what a treasure. Thank you so much for being here. 🥰
Thanks for sharing your box of fun exploration. One of the pieces reminds me a bit of Bozo the Clown and I LOVED it. I have to remind myself that a few outstanding pieces of color or shape can impact the collage. What I mean by that is that the last bright piece of green-blue with the holes added balance to the piece. Elizabeth St. Hillaire has a video showing how to paint the back of monoprinted rice paper to eliminate white edges. I don't like to have sticky fingers, either. This was a lot of fun to watch and a great exercise to set myself free. Happy Mother's Day Jackie.
Rev Christina - I love that idea! So many of us suffer with old sketchbooks filled with art we don't like at all (me included), when all we have to do is go over them and make something we like or something "weird." 🥰
SO liberating, Rachel! I swear, once I allowed myself to make a box of weird, my art, or at least how I felt about my art changed. I'd encourage everyone to have one no matter what type of art they make. 🥰
Fun Jackie, taught a class yesterday on exactly the same spontaneity process; I think we should live closer together, we’re on the same wavelength most of the time it seems 😊
That is so true and what fun it is! Constructing an old ,old cobble house which is my sons in Italy. Very old about 800 yrs. So cool of a place. I am piecing it together bit by bit, started it in the class and can’t wait to get back to it, I’ll send you a pic as it develops. Thanks again for sharing your little pice with us!
Love it! I see a cat - one ear/eye - tail up and over the other eye - collar separating the head and body. But who knows what I'll see next time. lol. Thanks for the video!
LOL Marian! I didn't see anything formative until you wrote that, now ALL I can see is a cat 😂😂😂 So now my box of weird has become a cat house. 😂 Thank you for the mid-afternoon giggle! 🥰
Happy World Collage Day❗️Thanks for the inspiration from your colorfully fun-filled collections. It’s a great day to play with some of my recent scraps.😍 👍
Beki, another viewer saw a cat too, and I didn't see it until it was mentioned. You're right - is ia absolutely a cat. It's so nice to see you here again 🥰
What a great idea for inspiration!!!! I think I will start keeping my experiments more seriously..... I tend to get rid of all of them! Of course I can't keep them all in my tiny space but perhaps a certain amount! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you, Chloé! I also have a folder in my photos app where I take pictures and scroll through them. I really should just put them on Instagram, but (as you know), I just don't love posting on IG. Someday, when there are 10 of me, I'll get to it. 🥰
I love your little box of weird collages so much!! Thank you for showing the process of creating a collage too...love the idea of making collages just for oneself! I intend to take that intention and start making some of my own weird collages...I have a tub of Yes paste (not sure I'll like it but will try) and a couple little square journals waiting for me - and of course, drawers and files of painted papers 💌💌💌💌 Any painted medical exam paper in your little box of weird collages?
No painted medical exam paper in the box of weird yet, but keep your eyes and ears out * wink.* Have I ever mentioned that I have a "thing" for little square journals? I'm so happy that someone else has a love for them. I think there is something so satisfying looking at small, square pieces of art. Have a great week, Robin! 🥰
