    I have 2010 675r street triple with arrow exhausts - Have to say I wouldn't upgrade it to any later model- It is absolutely fantastic as it is. The headlights give it plenty of character, the sound of the arrow exhaust is outstanding the brakes you have complete control over without daft ABS - Yes you need to feel the road your inertia and your relationship with all above but thats exactly how it should be, you are living in the now. The Generation 1 Street triple is an absolute classic. Sticking to the Gen 1 bike..

      how many miles do you have on it? I'm at 14k miles (in a year) and worried about the reliability at high mileage as I'm most likely going to put in around 14~15k miles per year

      Good words, but..............have you ridden a newer one? I would be curious to know your thoughts. I have older skis that I prefer over new ones. In fact they just ruined the Ibis Ripley, so I am aware of companies going backwards sometimes and not forward. But if you ride a newer one please post your comments, many would be interested as to what you find.

    That's a really lovely 675. To my ears, nothing beats the sound of the twin arrows without baffles. I miss mine. The 765R I have now is great, but it doesn't sound great. I miss that burble and overrun my 675 had.

      edit: just to clarify I did take out the C clips and also had a long and hard look for tack welds (which I didn't find any) and i've also tried removing the baffles after a long ride to get them hot but that still didn't work so if you have any advice for me that'd be great :)

    I've had the 2010 Street Triple R and now ride Phil's exact bike. The ST3 was a great machine and I owned it for 9 years. The sound of the induction and gurgle on downshift was addictive. I moved to the SP3 for longer distance biking as it cruisers at lower revs and I found it less tiring. What I also noticed is it's a lot more planted in the corners where the ST3 felt a little fidgety turning in at speed. Both great machines. I ran Supercorsa SPs for the last 10 years but after burning through them on the Speedy (4500km) I've moved to Michelin Power 5s and find them just as grippy and they seem to be wearing better.

      @@TheAdventuresofPhilJones I actually just started that video series. It's is wonderful. I love the dialogue, it's very immersive and calm. Cinematography was wonderful as well.
      I wanted to ask you the same thing! I liked my GSXS however, it was mostly only ever fun at 8k rpms and above in my opinion. I also wasn't a fan of the looks, a little to generic like for my taste. Plus, I always felt like the handlebars were uneven. 4 dealerships after my first year of ownership to fix the issue and I gave up. Probably was dropped by the dealership I purchased it from new.
      I did however like the abundance of parts here in the US. I started shopping around for parts for the 2021 Street Triple R last night. No where near as available, and a bit more expensive. Although, much more abundant than parts for the 2009 Street Triple I had prior.
      All in all, it was a good bike. Not a great one but a dependable one. I put 8k miles on it in my year of ownership. Unfortunately, the one I received just had some quality control issues.
      I'm really hoping I keep this Street Triple indefinitely. I need a dependable, do everything forever bike. I considered a few other names but the Japanese bikes all have funky styling. The KTMs aren't known for dependability and the Monster is pricey in comparison. The XSR900 was my only other true alternative.

Like you I've ridden the new and the old bike. Both are great, but something special about the looks of the earlier model with the under-seat exhausts.

    Despite owning 2 street triples original 2007 and 2012 R I’d be torn between those two. 765 has got too many plastics and cheap stickers but it’s probably a better and safer bike. Is it more fun though? Not sure. And the old one aged pretty well. Especially in black with gold wheels option.

    • @TheAdventuresofPhilJones
      @TheAdventuresofPhilJones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, they’re both great bikes. A lot of people want a more modern bike but you can still pick up an older Street with lo mileage. As twinny and you have pointed out, the older model does have a look of its own but doesn’t appeal to everyone. They are both fun to ride in their own way! 😁👍

  • @wirenut3020
    @wirenut3020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    She has a travel indicator on her front forks. Even when you rode her bike, you didn’t get past 1/2 travel on the front forks. Gee, I wonder why her fully adjustable suspension is so stiff? You need to take her and her bike to a suspension guy and get at least 75% of the travel engaged. Then get the rebound and compression dialed in. A
    Then and only then, can you talk about her bikes handling. Same goes for the new bike.

    • @TheAdventuresofPhilJones
      @TheAdventuresofPhilJones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have a good point about getting the suspension set up, when she first got the bike she had someone take a look and adjust the suspension, although he wasn’t a suspension specialist. As for doing the same on the demo bike, let’s be honest, I can’t do that on a bike I’ve borrowed for a day and how many bikers even look at adjusting the suspension? In my experience it’s track day guys who only do this. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed it! 😁👍

    • @wirenut3020
      @wirenut3020 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAdventuresofPhilJones What you say is completely true. Most Motorcylist’s know almost nothing about suspension. Dave Moss videos got me started on my journey about all this. Too stiff? You’re getting beat up for no reason on an adjustable suspension bike. Too soft? You run the risk of bottoming out the forks and losing the front in an emergency braking situation. Knowledge is power! That zip tie travel indicator is your first clue. 75-80% is a good goal to shoot for of total travel. 20% is reserve. Watch Dave Moss for a month and learn the process. A properly adjusted suspension feels like you’re riding on rails, getting the rebound adjusted evenly usually accomplishes this goal. Preload and compression can dial in the travel and the comfort. It’s all very interesting and it doesn’t end there. There’s geometry adjustments, tire pressure selection- all of these things once understood can be used to great advantage. Even non adjustable forks that dive and bottom out can be fixed relatively easily by a suspension guy, if not yourself. My first almost crash was my suspension bottoming out because I hit the front brakes too hard in a perceived moment of action. I now realize that had I had my suspension setup on my Kawasaki ninja 650 beforehand, I would have been so much safer. I almost went down, I ended up putting my foot down at greater than 50 mph. I lost the toenail on my left foot. Not good. I’d been riding for a month at the time. What do you do? The suspension is non adjustable. Bring it to a suspension guy! Do you need bigger springs for your weight, thicker fork oil? It’s all possible and can keep a person from danger on a sport that’s inherently dangerous. Bikes are setup at the factory for someone, but who? What do they weigh? What do you weigh? All pertinent information. Hope this helps. Join Dave Moss for a month and see if you like his style. Be safe.

    I haven’t ridden any Street Triple (or Triumph for that matter), but I’m sure that the 765 is, objectively, a better bike.
    I just think that the 675 looks so much nicer and I’m not sure that you’ll have that much more fun (if any) on a new RS.
    Is it a case if 95% of the fun for less than half the money as I suspect?

    • @TheAdventuresofPhilJones
      @TheAdventuresofPhilJones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Street Triple 765 is a great bike, I would definitely recommend you test ride one if you get the opportunity.
      The difference between the two bike’s is very subjective as it is with all bikes. I have friends who own the 765 and wouldn’t want to own the older Street Triple for a their own reasons, looks, technology, reliability, but as far as Twinny is concerned, she much prefers the 675 for looks!
      As far as having fun, you get 100% fun when riding either bike that’s for sure, it’s just the ride feels slightly different from old to new!
      Fortunately in life, we all like different things which is a good thing really, otherwise life would be boring! 😁👍
