  • Welcome aboard! Join us for our second week at sea. ⛵️ In this video, we show you the good, the bad, and the mundane moments of life underway- what it’s REALLY like to sail across the Pacific Ocean- from Panama to French Polynesia. We navigate through storms, cross the equator, tend to our provisions, whale watch, and make some repairs.

    Knowledge of what you’re doing while also having a well qualified vessel such as the catamaran you two have should be enough to get the two of you across any body of water. Right ? Absolutely! 😊

    Hi, love your channel and adventures! My wife and I are nearing full retirement and like other non sailors, our experience has only been on a few Royal Caribbean cruises and a day sail on an inland lake. We're both scuba divers and love the water, and are contemplating the catamaran lifestyle at some point, (understandably, this would be after a crewed charter to see if we like the lifestyle, lessons, and then a few more charters before outlaying capital for a boat), one of my wife's lingering questions/concerns are would she get bored or stir crazy looking out at endless blue all the time during passages, and doing maintenance all day is not her idea of a retirement-traveling. My thought is most of our travels would be island hopping in the Caribbean and not passage making at this time, but who knows. Your insights and perspectives would be most appreciative, thx.

    • @HollyandRay
      @HollyandRay  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, Mike! Thanks for watching! Personally, I never tire of the endless blue view. In the Caribbean, most island hopping can be done via short day sails, conditions change, keeping things interesting, and we’re almost always listening to music or an audiobook. There is also plenty to do while underway, we’re more likely to go stir crazy on anchor. I would recommended cultivating a few indoor hobbies before moving aboard a boat for those longer stretches of bad weather that “trap” you indoors. :)

      @@HollyandRay Thanks Holly, we just finished a few minutes ago watching your Q&A from patrons while anchored in the Marquesas. My wife loves your videos as you guys keep it real and show the good and the tough side of your adventures. So happy for you guys and look forward to your passage to Australia and the adventures there! My wife, Deb, said she has no shortage of inside hobbies, so no problem there, but she feels a kindred spirit to you as she also talks to animals all the time, the butterflies in the garden, the birds in our trees, and even the darn lizards that set off our Ring camera/doorbell at 6 AM in the morning. Cheers.

      Haha! I’ve been chatting with animals for as long as I can remember! Glad to hear that I’m not the only one. :) This life is full of challenges, but in our opinion it’s worth it. We’re still working on grabbing the camera when things are tough, but it hasn’t become natural to us quite yet- we share even more on our blog if you’re ever craving more! Sometimes it’s easier to write than film…

    For the whales I suggest the fireworks called M80 , it will not hurt them but the bang should quite effectively scare them off. We use them in the Gulf Coast for practically the same reasons. Fair-winds Shellbacks !!! Woo hoo!!⛵️🎊

    Holly. Orca attacks in the eastern Pacific are almost unheard of. However, a Drama in Real Life story in Reader's Digest is of a Sailboat sunk by orcas off Mexico 1971. A family, parents and 2 or 3 kids, were attacked. Their monohull was made of ferrocement. But fiberglass isn't much better in that situation. Don't be too concerned about orcas until you get to southern Spain. Nice pilot whale and spinner dolphin footage.

    We’ve always used “Rice” to absorb moisture in everything, but I’m sure it’s from using it in salt to keep it from turning into mush. I’ve never heard of using beans, you’ll have to let us know if it works or grows beans……😂
