  • Hello all
    So I picked up the Squier Classic Vibe Tele Custom in black on black for that authentic Uber 70's look. I've been pretty blown away by this guitar. Classic Vibes continue to impress me but this is the best one I've tried. Needs some nut slot filing but other than that it looks feels and sounds fantastic.
    I'm a big lover of the neck pickup in this guitar the Fender Wide Range Humbucker. I have two of them in my oldest guitar and this one sounds almost exactly the same. Combine that withe the 2 volumes, two tones and three way selector switch and its a really amazing versatile guitar
    Major Kudos to Squier on this.

      That’s exactly what so great about it. You can dial the amp in to suit the humbucker and then tame the bridge with the tone control.

    I have the Squier CV 70s TELE Custom. I really do enjoy the guitar and I am also impressed with the build quality. I have modified it with brass compensated saddles and a Tusq Nut , it's one of my favorite guitars. I must tell you however that I closely examined the Humbucker and discovered that the poles screws are not threaded but simply set in wax , this not really adjustable.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey. Thx for the comment. Yeah these 70s squire teles are really great guitars. I played the tele deluxe in a store recently too and it is also great. I’m not surprised the poles are not actually adjustable if I’m honest. I don’t think the majority of squier players are going to be tweaking their guitars. I will say I don’t really think the Nick humbucker on mine has the clarity and definition a tele neck humbucker needs which is cornerstone to the tele humbucker sound. It’s not a million miles away thoygh.

    Just to confirm, a Ytuber (Dylan Talks Tone) actually pulled a Squire wide range humbucker apart and found that it's a fake, just made to sound like a wide range humbucker. But if it sounds good to the player, then it doesn't matter.

      Just made to *look* like the original Fender humbcker. Those pickups were expensive to reproduce decades later because of the unique CuNiFe magnet/polepieces. I think there is a recent accurate reissue of the old Fender humbucker.

    Nice channel. Good to focus on these Squiers.
    The sound really comes from the hands. The difference between the cheapie and the expensive never justifies the price but ideally, we'd all be playing Custom Shop.

      Hey Redjet. I’m thx for the comment. Really glad you like the channel. I’m really emphatic that the price of equipment is not directly related to its ultimate value or usefulness so I totally agree with you.

    • @nickdrey1200
      @nickdrey1200 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price difference conundrum is not a black-and-white issue. Some examples, very much, support the argument that the cost directly relates to tone.
      I am of the thought that price directly relates to the Quality of the instrument. However, sound and/or tone is, in recent years, not being reflected in price. The Squier Classic Vibes and, more recently, Epiphone 'Inspired by Gibson' line, show that guitars that cost 1/3 the price of their premium counterparts, hold up in comparison of sound. With these guitars, the skill of the player and quality of the amp.

    I love this classic vibe, I’ve been gassing for it for years. But just to set the record straight: It is definitely 100% correct that this is not a true wide range humbucker, but a regular humbucker in a wide range case. There is no controversy about it, and there are plenty of examples of people opening this pickup and demonstrating it.
    A true wide range humbucker (where the pole-pieces themselves are magnets) can only by made from CUNIFE magnets, because any other magnet is too brittle and will crack if it is threaded into a screw.
    Fender made true wide range humbuckers until 81-82, then they stopped because cunife magnets became harder to find. From that point fender used regular humbuckers in a wide range case (although they “tuned” the pickup to sound similar to a wide range humbucker).
    From 1981 onwards you could only buy true wide range humbuckers from boutique builders at very high prices.
    A few years ago fender once again introduced true wide range humbuckers, but it is only available in the American Vintage/American Original Line (RRP $2000-$2200 for a guitar).
    You can also buy the pickup from fender (on its own) for around $250.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Soul Dreamer. Thx for the comment. Ironically I was just researching exactly this. I have a 97 Japanese Thinline Tele that I’m pretty sure has the CUNIFE wide range humbuckers. And the neck pickup on this squier just doesn’t have anything like the same definition. It’s a nice humbucker just too dark for what I want it for so I’m going to upgrade it to a creamery one.

    • @FezzantPlucka
      @FezzantPlucka 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's dark because it only has a 250 kilo pot. Humbuckers should have 500 kilo pot

Reading through the comments I see you were going to change out the neck pick up but no longer have the guitar. Did you end up swapping the pick ups and if not what would you have put in there? Cheers and subscribed 🙂

    I just bought this exact model for my niece's birthday as a present and i'm not knowledgeable in electric guitars but i noticed that your pickup selectors go horizontal while mine goes vertical, i also find the knobs janky. I'm bringing it to a luthier to get fully fixed and upgraded. Can i get recommendations on what i should buy for upgrades? My niece plays alot of 90s grunge/rock/rocknroll/alternative btw.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Totolike. Thx for the comment. So first off my selector switch and a incorrect out of the factory it should be vertical. Very easy fix though. I think it’s an either side of the Atlantic thing (I’m assuming you are in the US) but I do t know what the word Janky means.
      In terms of upgrades. If she is playing grunge I’d recommend replacing the bridge humbucker with a dimarzio chopper T bridge pickup. It’s the same size but is a humbucker and would work better with distortion sounds. If she is playing Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden the neck pickup doesn’t really get used. If she is playing PJ it does get used a bit more. No other upgrades required at all in my opinion

    • @filippe_kim
      @filippe_kim ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGuitarEffect Thanks for replying. What i meant about janky is 2 of the knobs gets stuck at 12 o clock and it gets tougher to rotate, i was thinking that the guitar i got was a display or the guitar was in bad storage and accumulated dust. Tried contacting customer support for the online store where i bought the guitar but they insist the guitar was a new one. Should i upgrade the potentiometers of the knobs?
      And yeah, my niece plays alot of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, SG, AIC, Radiohead and Tool. She likes the 'djent' alot.
      Again, thank you for the recommendations. I'm a drummer so i barely have knowledge in guitars.

Then I had a video pop up showing the Squier cv 60s thinline sherwood green . Then I followed your videos and see your new custom tele . So in your opinion for me as a first tele . Which one . Cv50, thinline60 or custom 72 . Which sounds awesome , thanks for your help

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Derek. I’m thx for the comment. I think that’s my favorite question I’ve ever been asked. The answer is not very simple unfortunately. But I’d straight away rule out the thinline. I had a thinline squier and I didn’t like it at all. It was too light, too weedy and utterly uninspiring. However I made a video about this and a lot of people disagreed. So that’s a personal taste thing.
      Regarding the other two. I’d probably got for the 50s one. The 72 custom is a great guitar but it needs a neck pickup upgrade and the control layout (while great) is not simple like a tele should be.
      In short if you want to get into the telecaster as a guitar type the 50s is the OG and longest serving variation of telecaster. If you like that the next thing I’d do is get a fender 72 custom. Particularly one of the maple board max ones from the naughties. It’s just a better guitar than the squier (though the squier is great)

Other than that I’m very happy with it. This was €430 the vintera is over €1000 I think. Hard to compare them at those prices really. I’ve ne Ed played a vintera.
