- With Min Min being a new addition into the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster it got me thinking about the characters who were confirmed to have been rejected from the roster. In this video we analyze each of these characters and try to determine how likely they are to join the roster as fighters in the future.

What pains me as a Xenoblade 2 fan is the fact Byleth made it into smash when FE3H came out in 2019, two years after Xenoblade 2. I love 3 houses btw, i'm not salty about Byleth in smash.
That's a good point, it really shows that DLC opened up a lot of character's chances
The reason that Rex couldn't be in the base game wasn't because Xenoblade Chronicles 2 development began late? And I also understand that it applied to the base game but not necessarily to the DLC, but I don't understand at 100% how does that work.
Also, I'm not salty about Byleth (in fact, he/she is my main), but this is kinda weird.
@@RaidikV yup, really confusing like how does it even works? Was Three Houses development that slow or something in comparison to Xenoblade that they managed to finish their game before 3H as well Arms.
The thing is a matter of timeframes: Rex would have been planned for the base game if not for when Ultimate's development began, but by that point it was too early. Meanwhile Byleth is a DLC character with a game developed enough at the time that Nintendo gave Sakurai a Three Houses beta to make a moveset out of.
Dlc is made after the game is already made and is decided by nintendo instead of the Smash team. Nintendo wanted to promote 3 houses, likely due to the dlc being released. They want to promote Arms so people will give it a chance. Nintendo is ultimately a company and they want to put in what they want most.

Dont get me wrong, I love incine in smash but just imagine it. Like, a Wrestling themed character in the "actual" fighting game, and have the archer zoning character in the platform fighting game? It seems a bit more fitting to me

Actually Incineroar is one of Game Freaks favorite Pokemon according to the companys developer & is one of the most used mons in the competitive scene as well. I think these reasons led him into Smash. Besides his unique playstyle as grappler & Decidueye being in Pokken. But I would agree that Decidueye is the most popular gen 7 starter for casual gamers (for me as well)
I don't think that should stop anybody, though. If they want a character to be in both, they should go for it. Expecially since it's all but confirmed that the majority of the community prefers Decidueye to Incineroar.
Honest question:
Have 90% of the people asking for Geno actually ever played SMRPG? It seems like so many people just bandwagon that one
I think that's mainly because he's been considered so many times and has a very passionate fanbase, I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually find out he was considered for Ultimate as well
I've played SMRPG, but I don't really care for Geno getting in as much as many other characters
I never played RPG, but I can say he looks like a very unique character. But I'm not one to vote him in. If he gets in then thats great. He earned it or something. But I am always seeing people wanting Geno in smash. Like give us a good reason to add him. Is it possible with the company he is in. What can his moves be. Don't just say "I want him in. And he because he deserves it". Its dumb. But again. If he makes it then he makes it
I played SMRPG, and I really liked Geno, but I'm kinda neutral about him getting in Smash, I can see a lot of potential on his moveset (and the moveset of a character is the main reason that makes me want to buy the smash DLC), but the inclusion itself of Geno wouldn't hype me for some reason.

I would have much preferred Decidueye. But it is what it is. Ultimate isn’t the end of Smash, so you never know what might come next roster wise
I really doubt that we'll ever get a proper new smash game after ultimate, we'll probably just get rereleases with new DLC (and any characters that ended up with issues over who has the rights to them removed). after all how would they ever top what is suposed to be the ultimate smash experience?

Eclipsed Embers They could easily top this game with a proper online a proper story mode and many other modes that didn’t make it like a boss rush, all star mode, special orders, events, target smash, bomb blast, smash run, and smash tour and change up some character move-sets like young link, ganondorf, sonic, Luigi, Kirby, and many other characters that either aren’t fun to play viable or accurate to their characters

To be fair, when Sakurai says that „he doesn‘t see a potential moveset“ for a character, he probably means that the character in question has moves in his game that go against the formula of smash and wouldn’t do them justice. Mr Game and Watch didn’t have that high pressure of said injustice and was more open for interpretation.
If min min got promoted from spirit to fighter, then that would give an opportunity to most of the spirits fans want in the game

Why not a new character from Splatoon
I could imagine them being throw into another character's reveal or getting their own "mini reveal" similar to what daisy and Chrom got. But I do think it's possible, and I've wanted it ever since they announced echo fighters

Technically, you could canonically have Rex without Pyra, but that would be equivalent to Shulk without the Monado.
Rex and Pyra always go together. Rex wields the weapon most of the time, with Pyra powering the sword, and Rex passes the sword to Pyra for blade specials. You could canonically have them as individual characters, but that would be unlikely given how great the importance of the driver/blade dynamic is in Xenoblade 2.
I think Rex and Pyra have the potential to be one of the most interesting and fun characters. You could add attack cancelling, Torna's vanguard/rearguard switch, blade switching (although I would steer clear of this as swapping between three different blades is stepping on Pokemon Trainer's toes, and I personally don't like playing as PT). You could even do a mechanic similar to Joker's Arsene gauge as a stand in for blade affinity, and at max Pyra changes to Mythra since Mythra is the stronger form.
They're easily my most wanted fighters, XC2 is my favorite game by a longshot, and I would love to have Rex and Pyra in Smash.

@Masahiro Sakurai they do, the lore says that it's an ability to where the characters can make their arms stretchy whenever they want, so they do have regular arms, it's just that they can turn them into stretchy on command. They do, however, have to where specialized masks, because they can't really control WHEN their arms stretch, only IF they want their arms to stretch.

I'm still a little bit sad that we got Incineroar instead of Decidueye, I think Decidueye fits more in smash than Pokken and Incineroar fits more in Pokken than in Smash, and with Decidueye we could have had finally one starter for each main type, instead of 2 fire final starters and 1 water final starter

uhhh I remember Sakurai saying he did consider Decidueye, however since they would've had a similar bow mechanic as Pit/Dark Pit/Link/Link2/Link3, so he confidently opted for Incineroar, since there aren't any dedicated wrestlers (grapplers? sure, but definitely no luchadores)
I Hope and Pray that Decidueye gets in eventually.
As much as i would like to play AS Pyra/Mythra, but if there were to be a xenoblade 2 rep, im pretty sure it sould be rex, Smash is for good boys and girls after all.

They could mimic the Torna battle system and have Rex and Pyra swap in and out as the fighter, with the other in the background like Pokemon Trainer.

1:56 I get the vibe that some people are still unaccepting of Pichu’s return to Smash (not saying you HAVE to accept it, but it’s pretty strange to _not_ accept it given how we now have every single Smash character back and even more on the way). Pichu is my all-time favorite Smash character, and yet it seems to have had the toughest time out of everyone included so far: being shunned by the community during its absence throughout Brawl and Smash for 3DS/Wii U (during the latter game’s DLC era, people completely disapproved of Pichu’s potential comeback), being viewed as the absolute worst character to ever join the series, with some even calling Pichu “undeserving” of a comeback, and if you so much as expressed _any_ interest in Pichu’s return at all, or even talked positively of its Melee incarnation, you’d get told off for wanting/liking a “trash” character with your intelligence questioned. And as the cherry on top, when Pichu _finally_ made its return in Ultimate, it was completely ripped apart, limb from limb, by the community, who complained about Pichu’s competitive superiority, causing it to get hard-nerfed just a few months after the game’s release. Some people even think Pichu should be removed AGAIN in a future Smash game, which...is okay, but it pains me to see that Pichu is _still_ viewed with a dumbfounded eye by most people in the community.
Just let the little guy be! Pichu fans (like myself) had to go through hell just to see it come back. And it’s not like Pichu replaced anyone, either; we’ve got every other cut Smash fighter brought back along with it. So, what’s the damage here?
The problem with Pichu is that he is just a semi clone of Pikachu, there was no reason for have one.

Something tells me that you hadn't play Xenoblade Chronicles 2, right? Because if Rex makes it, Pyra and Mythra will be in as well, you can't have one without the other, unlike Pokemon where you can finish the whole game without your starter, in Xenoblade you can't take off your main blade, in this case, Pyra/Mythra.
I don't think Rex will come, a pyra Mythra Zelda Shiek, Pokémon Trainer Style would be sooo interesting
@@untitlednobody9009 personally, I really don't like Pokemon Trainer. I think Rex would be better if he just had Pyra and Mythra rather than three different blades. Maybe with a mechanic similar to Lucario's aura or the blade affinity from XC2. My idea is have Pyra as the base form, but when you hit max affinity she swaps with Mythra and all Rex's attacks become more powerful.
I also like the idea of utilizing Torna's vanguard/rearguard system and having Rex and Pyra swapping back and forth. We don't have a Zelda/Sheik style character in Ultimate besides Pokemon Trainer but again, I don't particularly like Pokemon Trainer

Something that they could do is what I like to call a combo of Pokémon trainer and ice climbers where you have Rex in the battle and you start off with Pyra but she is in the background and follows you and during the match the more closer you are to Pyra the more your affinity raises and of course you can switch between Pyra and Mythra and the other blades you can switch to is Roc and maybe a character that’s a big spoiler in the game. So Rex can utilize different weapons too but I’m more sure they would keep it to Pyra and Mythra also the affinity thing could be like lucario and his aura gimmick but instead of being based off damage it’s based off how long you stay close to your blade hopefully this makes sense but I highly doubt they would do something like this it would be pretty difficult to develop and to play as but hey it’s sakurai we are talking about

Sakurai said Rex was too new for the base game. He then elaborated saying ARMS was also in this boat. However, he added a Fire Emblem character, admitting to giving the series special treatment by reserving a spot and playing an early copy of the game. He then picked up ARMS and gave them a DLC fighter, as the timing issue is long since over in this pass. Maybe it's a personal bias because he's my most requested fighter, but it would be quite messed up to leave Rex out at this point.
I think I recall reading that Midgar's music is so small because the deal between Nintendo and Square Enix to include Cloud was so restricted/inflexible; however, my quick research couldn't recover that information from where I found it: the Smash Wiki or Smashpedia.
And then in the next direct they're going to say: "And now we show you a new DLC Character: Its the grass starter of the 7th gen.!" Then they show Rowlet...

14:43 sometimes I forget the sheer amount of people who have became fans of the series and didn't grow up on brawl (or melee). But it honestly makes me feel really old whenever people talk about brawl like that.
Seeing how Squeenix is like with their IP, there is no way Geno will be a fighter. Unless they are willing to let them have a hand at the character aside from a smash tag and spirit. Also, Nintendo chose the fighters, so I don't know if they want to go with a fan favorite or use their own franchises for any form of promotion.
square-enix has done absolutely nothing with geno after super mario rpg meaning they really don't care and sakurai already has permission to use geno because of the geno spirit and Nintendo is fulfilling fan requests and they know how much geno is wanted as a fighter and they know sakurai wants geno as well and because the geno mii costume hasn't returned means that geno will be a dlc fighter in fighters pass 2

I honestly agree with you. I’ve said this to many that the reason why Geno isn’t in smash is because of square enix. With the two characters they have in smash right now, they are profitable characters that make them a boatload of money for just being in smash ultimate. Geno however isn’t a profitable character which is why they would probably rather have another one of their big characters as opposed to a one off character from a 20 year old game. And before anyone mentions, “oh they allowed Geno to be a spirit and mii costume in smash 4”, that argument doesn’t really mean anything when you consider that since he was a one off character, his appearance as a mii costume or a spirit is not nearly as massive as being playable which is why they allowed that since people wouldn’t pay attention. Square enix in my personal opinion would probably rather have Lara Croft or Sora as their next rep.

Another fighter that wasn't publicly rejected, but can be almost confirmed not to be in smash is Monster Hunter. They would have been a great new addition to the cast as a multi weapon user, but Byleth has the same gimmick. So adding a second one seems veey unlikely.
I wish they'd add Pyra. Although it seems pretty impossible.. We already have Shulk representing Xenoblade..

im so sad that decidueye was cut... hes my favorite pokemon and always use him in sword and shield as well since pokemon home came out... as soon as i saw incineroar it kinda ruined that direct for me (until plant was revealed). and dont get me wrong, im really happy that incineroar was added, but having your favorite pokemon being not just left out, but *almost put in*, then wasnt, feels a lot worse.

tbh im sastified with the heavy weight we got when i use super armour spirit with tank style and use a heavy weight like bowser, ganondorf or a bulky shooter with high fire power like Samus/dark samus, Robin, Mii Gunner, Byelth i pretty much destroys everyone in spirit smash by brute force as long that i dont have to jump or isnt a full stage hazard that are unavoidable and dies in no time in stamina without bringing the required spirit or if its a defensive mission would screwed me up with that spirit other than that im almost unstopable and i can also solo with that spirit vs 7 lvl 9 computers all in team againts me with that armoured spirit so yeah even though mechanica and master mummy didnt make it im happy with MinMin and the rest of DLC including Byleth im not fussy who joins and if the fans wants a Xenoblades chronicles char to join sure im up for it, if another fire emblem chars shows up sure im up for it as well but im gonna watch out for the salty angry mob the way they harrassed Sakurai and gives Byleth a cold shoulder instead of a warm welcome well i gave him a warm welcome so yeah we dont need another salty angry mob who gets dumb and become real ungrateful sh*tbags for just another fire emblem char i wouldnt mind having more but i dont want to deal with those toxic again we dont need that drama, i had what i wanted and fire emblem fans got what they wanted so if i were sakurai i wouldve grant at least a few chars share on what the fans wants so we'll be all cool what we have

I agree with your rating on the Xenoblade 2 character. Now that Min Min is in, a XB2 character seems like a lock for dlc. My best guess is it'll be Rex as the fighter you control while Pyra, Mythra, and maybe blade form Nia will be incorporated into his moveset in some way. Maybe they'll stand in the background similar to how Pokemon trainer does and Rex will be able to swap between them with his down b which will change things like his stats, hitboxes, and even some moves entirely depending on which blade is out.

I hope there’s a gen 8 rep that isn’t a starter. I acknowledge that Rillaboom is the most likely, and I’m fine with its inclusion but there should be another sword and shield representative like toxtricity, perrserker, or obstagoon. Sir fetchd and grimmsnarl would also be very fun additions.
Also, the relationship of Mario and doctor mario could be translated over to pikachu using gen 8’s morpeko as a bulkier and slower rat.
another thing would be a starter bundle that contained Cinderace, Inteleon, and Rillaboom which would be super cool with those 3 or any other 3 start evolutions from any game
Honestly, it should have been Decidueye and Cinderace. It would have been Perfect but Sakurai proceeded with the Worst Fighter, let's hope it's not Rillaboom.
we still need dlc echoes tho. Octoling was an easy echo. Or not even an echo, the arsenal of splatoon is so big, theres at least 4 character slots worth of possibilities. final smash could be literally any special. i guess the rainmaker is also possible. Hell if nintendo wanted to be like that we could have the run out of stamina thing for octolings be like when u drop an 8 ball into the abyss in octo expansion. spirit theory was dissproven, so theres a chance. Although its not that big.

I definitely feel like we are going to get a pokemon fighter, and its either going to be grass type, or something new, and it will represent one of the gens not represented in smash, so the 2 best options would be mystery dungeon grovyle, as a reference to grovyle being the time thief, or toxtricity, being one of the highest ranking gen 8 pokemon on the popularity scale. either that or wooloo and snom, because we haven't had a pokemon added for being cute in a while, and they represent that well.
