This is our first shrimp outing this year on the Hood Canal! And it was a blast! The pellets and prawn juice combo bait was ok, but not nearly as good as the catfood mixture.
A well done video and shows good technique as well. I HATE the Scotty puller but it is compact. For old guys(me), I LOVE my davit and capstan which lets the pot clear the gunwale and swings in, no lifting!!!
Awesome video I watched a lot of shrimping videos you’re probably one of the most I was excited about it I never seen so many shrimp in one pot pull like you guys did. I was go to give it a try last year but I had to cancel all my plans I’m a disabled veteran and had back surgery so plans changed I’m hoping I can this year is there a boat launch around there to put in I have an aluminum boat I would love to take a trip and try it for my first time never did it I bought everything with the boat thanks for sharing your information you said vegetable oil cat food can mackerel fish fertilizer to make good recipe thanks
Thank you! I posted 4 shrimp day videos from last year. If you have a boat that doesn’t need a floating dock to launch and retrieve (i.e., small enough), I’d use Misery Point in Seabeck. If you need a dock, either Salisbury or Pleasant Harbor. But get there really early, plan to be there by 530-6 because those ramps get hammered on shrimp days.
@@my-back-yard thanks. For the info. You should consider doing an Amazon link to Alaska fertilizer, trap etc. You could make money while shrimping. Be well.
Up here in B.C. we make them out of a product called Aquamesh, its used in the shell food industry. Its a plastic coated galvanized wire. Aqua Pacific Industries in Nanaimo might be able to help you out. Comes in rolls of various size mesh.
I had no idea that shrimp lived in cold water till I visited Scotland, then a friend of mine in Alaska posted about his shrimping trip in Alaska and I was floored. i'd imagine the fresh shrimp from the Pacific NW has to be amazing!@@my-back-yard
@@my-back-yard I was actually referring to the amount of shrimp. I've never landed that many at once. 😅 I've only ever used the typical circular traps wrapped in netting.
@@my-back-yard I was a commercial diver in BC for many years until I was sidelined by a car accident. I never actually went to an area where shrimp are targeted. I would throw a pot in the water sometimes while I was working somewhere and see if I might catch a few. Sometimes I would, sometimes I'd get skunked. I don't think I ever caught more than 50 or 60 at a time. Same with crab pots. I'd throw one of those in the water too if the substrate was likely to contain crab. I'd also frequently hop back in the water after the day's work was done and bring up some fresh dinner. Maybe a crab or two, some sea cucumber, definitely rock scallops. The best tasting thing I've ever eaten, and I only had it once, I only ever saw it one time, was a Puget Sound king crab. Absolutely the best tasting crab I ever had.
Hey bro I like the way y’all do traps but just keeping it 100 if u like to get more video like there should not be any secrets right hell I really wanna kno so I can pull more in for my family

Can’t believe the way he threw them pots on the gunnels of your boat lol
Right? Lol
Funny, we went to but love watching other do the same. Lol! Nice job Brent!
Thanks! Me too 😉
Wow. Amazing. If I wasn’t scared of getting seasick, this senior citizen can change my name to Dawn to tag along 😂. What fun. Thank you.
Hahahaha! Thanks for watching and paying attention! 😉

Thanks!
When that puller no longer functions, I’m getting the davit version.
Not a bad haul of shrimp, in my opinion. It looked like a fun time out there. Cheers! ✌️
My best ever
Awesome, I limited on the first pull also...
Thanks for the pointers! This is our first year and q we'll give the advice a try June 5
See you out there!

Fantastic. Where in Hood Canal did you guys drop the traps??
Big Beef
❤❤❤ very nice catch thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching!
You guys are great! I really like it, but I don't have shrimp catching equipment like you guys
Start accumulating.
Fun video. What does a plume look like on the fish finder. Thanks, Al
Kind of like a layer of vegetation

I would be interested in building some of those pots to try out, is there a build thread on those somewhere I could get some measurements?
We need to do a video.
One inch galvanized wire mesh, and go just under the Washington state regulations.
@@my-back-yard really the galvanized wire holds up to the salt water use?? I'm sure they get a good rinse off once they are home

Where do you buy those mesh wire?
Just as a building supply, from any one. Building material prices have it out of reach for the time being.
What did you use for bait ?
Cat food, used vegetable oil, canned chub mackerel, Alaska fish fertilizer
What kind of baits you use?
Wet cat food with vegetable oil, mackerel and Alaskan fish fertilizer.
yankee shrimping... wish it was that easydown south
Good
Why can you only keep 400? That is a very small limit...
Regulations say 80/person.
Is this in California?
Good Canal, in Washington
I like your laid back attitude.
You should've cut out burning the shipmates name.
Your not all drama....I like it because it's real
We’re retired submariners, burning everything about each other is in our blood. Lol
Thanks for watching!
How do these shimp compare to gulf shrimp from the store?
There’s no substitute for fresh shrimp. I’d have to try fresh gulf shrimp to give an honest answer.

Alaska also has spot shrimp!
How many cup fish fertilizer did you add in?
Just poured a few seconds.
@@my-back-yard Thankyou, my first time shrimping this season, hopefully I get 80 shrimp
How’d you do?
@@my-back-yard four of us , we have throw 2 pot back, rookie lucky lol
Did we help?
Where can you get those tall pots?
Hand made to the state’s regulations.
Raw materials
Hog ring pliers
Cutters
Tape measure
My Back Yard Thanks, I was considering doing that as well.
@@nickholm2287 if you are looking for some of these tall shrimp pots I actually builds them for $80 apiece

No. We are not commercial.
I've never seen pots like that.
They’re custom, going to make a video in a few weeks.

That year, we’d get one pot per day that had a massive haul in it 200-350. The rest would be 60-100 or so. Couldn’t correlate it.
