  • I had the privilege of being a passenger on a commercial shrimp boat. These hard working men spend days out to sea just off the Oregon coast. Ray Graves was kind enough to let me ride along for this adventure.

No wonder the salad shrimp I buy at Newport is broken into pieces after seeing them beat the hell out of them getting them out of the net.

Heading out this week for my first shrimp trip. I've done crabbing and longlining, but no drags yet. Super excited.

The best way to spoil a good video is poor sound.

I enjoy these types of videos but so much better when we are told what's happening. Even subtitles would be good.

Yes, these guys invented and modified their own. As they have their own machine shop to build everything from scratch if needed.

Was I the only one that saw the bag of I don't know what kind of fish, just being dumped over the side? I wonder how much bi-catch they kill each trip...

very little actually. the net system is designed to allow the shrimp to go in the net and the fish can swim out. they only pull the nets at about 3 knotts, I think so most of the fish swi out. the rest of the minnow fish are thrown back to sea and that feeds the birds.

I seen the lady law fish shrimp like this a far more efficient operation than these guys if big bags the norm why isn't the block and tackle ready in the overhead A frame at a moments notice. To much beer not enough h20
I grew up commercial fishing shrimp in South Louisiana with my dad and feel I have a decent understanding an wish we had hoppers to assist in process

You should check out the Australian banana prawn boats and how they do it. In Louisiana, they don’t even use Culling tables, they squat on deck like monkeys picking them up. I never understood that.
