nice vid. old saying with Deckers-if you can catch fish there-especially at the bridge-you can go anywhere in the world and catch fish. It is one of the most heavily fished bodies of water, and it has only gotten more and more crowded. Way to stay at it and be patient. Nice work

Yep I was surprised originally when I heard New Mexico had some good trout fishing. It's just not what I think of when I think of New Mexico. I might have to visit one day
What a great video, and it sure brought back pleasant memories! I lived in Colorado in the mid-90’s, and enjoyed fishing the South Platte ... but it could indeed be pretty humbling. Looking forward to your next edition of your Colorado adventure!
Great video! Next time you come out west I recommend trying one state north and fish the North Platte in Wyoming. Fair warning though, even though it is the least populated state, if you fish the more famous sections (miracle mile) be prepared for it to be just as pressured as the South Platte. People travel from all over to fish it.

Great experience out west! I’ve hiked a lot out west and enjoy fishing the high alpine lakes.......very few people fish these remote lakes and they are usually loaded with fish. Not huge ones but a blast to catch. I never hike out west without my bear spray, a pistol and a pack-in fly rod....great memories.

It has every bit of the quality as most TV shows. This feels like it is part of the MeatEater productions. Which I think is probably some the BEST outdoors style programming EVER AIRED.

I love fishing Deckers. The problem with that area is that it sits halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs. A size 14 fly is a huge fly there. If they see any micro drag it’s over. The fish there are very educated. 5 and 6x tippet is the norm. Beautiful brown.
Yep we learned as we went! I caught the brown after a lucky hatch went off just as we were leaving. If it weren’t for that deckers would’ve kicked out butt. Glad you enjoyed!
Seeing rivers i fish on the regular (im literally going to the dream tomorrow) is so freakin cool! The southplatte is one of the best and worst rivers out there as you probably experienced😂 and that hog cutbow at the end is crazy especially there!
Another great video guys, I love the Rockies, living in Idaho is awesome. Next year if you guys get the chance take a couple of days to fish Eastern Idaho/ Western Wyoming, The Snake River and all it's branches, Teton river, Warm, Fall, rivers and countless creeks. One word of advice stay away from where everyone goes, much better fishing else where. If time permits look into one day with a guide for stugeon on the Snake, it is an incredible experience. Tight lines guys.

Deckers is tough. Fish are extremely picky and you need a 22 or 24 in most instances. If you can get a rainbow to eat you had an impeccable presentation.
Yep we learned that the hard way. Luckily we still had some good luck but I'd like to have more time on that river. There are definitely some big fish and it would be fun to figure them out.

hey can i get your info? I fished CO once in 2018 when I fished the San Juan river in NM. I fished the animas and had 1 huge brown and 3 big rainbows on, but couldn't get them in the net. Next summer i want to take a trip to CO to fish again and to get redemption on the Animas. Any help or info would be appreciated. PS- im from PA

The Platte is pretty difficult to catch on from personal experience and asking other anglers. It is super popular to fish so quite some picky fish but a beautiful place all along the river

Yeah the people up in mountains is crazy anymore. Which is great that people are enjoying the great outdoors. That is why we started fishing up outside of Walden colo. Our favorite place was the grizzly but due to people disrespecting the wonderful gentle man that owned the property he ended up shutting it down. Devastating
that area right by the bridge in Deckers gets pounded hard. Fished it two years ago and caught a couple just up stream from bridge but had much better luck several miles down stream from there.
I wasn't all that familiar with the area I just had a buddy that told me to check it out. I was just happy to catch a fish with the amount of people there.
@@hardmanfishing Cheesman Canyon is upstream from there a couple miles if i remember. I go out to Colorado once every summer and it's always a good time with lots of big fish!! (But I still love fishing my Pennsylvania streams)

Ya colorado is nice to fish forsure my buddy who strictly c&R's on a fly has landed so many 25-30" bows and brown it's unreal I normally land the smaller 18" -22" but they are still very clean and healthy
south platte at deckers is tough fishing. I fish there when i can and there is just so much pressure on that river. I use size 20 and 22 for everything there.

And that’s why they call fly fishing at Deckers on the weekends combat fishing. You have to defend your 25 yard stretch of water at all cost. You can’t move up water or down water as another angler will jump your hole.
Yep! It was my first time ever "combat" fishing but it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it would be. I'd definitely rather not hit it on the weekend though that is for sure.

Well my brother and I have do have a net we use but my buddy Dallas does not. So when we split up we would always let the least experienced angler have the net since they'll have most trouble landing fish. I hope that answers your question. We also lost one of our nets which is another story
I went to Deckers AGAIN today for the 3rd time in two weeks at 5am and it was bumbarded with people and tourists. Literally had 4 intertubers float right IN to me, ran in to me with their tubes, even though I had clearly moved away from them, and I had to push them away from me while they were drunk and screaming. A different pack of tubers were LITERALLY leaving trash and cans floating behind them and yelling at everyone trying to fish. Tons of kids in the water without life vests or any kind of safety equipment. A group of guys were bragging about how they didn’t have fishing liscences to other group of fishers. Trash everywhere in the bushes and water. Many people taking illegal fish because they were undersized. This river is a joke. No one around to monitor anything and I’m honestly disgusted that the people that are supposed to be protecting our forests, ARENT. TRIED to call the forest rangers 3 times and they didn’t even answer the phones. Maybe if people did their jobs we could have somewhere nice to go fishing, but Deckers is checked off my list as of today. #WelcomeToColorado

I did a week DIY with my friend in Colorado conditions were perfect every day for some reason every stream no one was catching fish ...in one week not one bite for me ....can you imagine ? I quit fishing for 6 months after bc I was so disgruntled
Gotta learn to play them fish I’ve caught quite a few fish over 3 pounds a couple over 5 and one 6.5 pounder on 1 to 2 pound mono or a 7x leader and tippet
Cutthroat and cuttbows are easy to tell the difference. Cuttbows are just rainbow trout but with the "cutt" under their gills. Cutthroat are usually more colorful and have a lot less spots. It is more difficult to tell the difference between a cuttbow and a rainbow in my opinion.
We thought about going to Cheesman but the water was low and I got some good intel that Cheesman wasn't fishing well at the time. I definitely want to fish it at some point though!

Started fishing there. Whacked em on dries when everyone said you can’t catch deckers on dry flies. This stretch gets POUNDED

TRIED to call the forest rangers 3 times and they didn’t even answer the phones. Maybe if people did their jobs we could have somewhere nice to go fishing, but Deckers is checked off my list as of today. #WelcomeToColorado
I’ve been a few times and haven’t really had a problem with other anglers or tubers. Tubers I have seen are pretty oblivious though.

I did a week DIY with my friend in Colorado conditions were perfect every day for some reason every stream no one was catching fish ...in one week not one bite for me ....can you imagine ? I quit fishing for 6 months after bc I was so disgruntled

Gotta learn to play them fish I’ve caught quite a few fish over 3 pounds a couple over 5 and one 6.5 pounder on 1 to 2 pound mono or a 7x leader and tippet
I caught a ton of trout in Colorado. Why I don't live there I'll never know.

We'll eat stocked trout but the wild trout we let live.
I was always under the impression that a cutthroat and a cut bow are impossible to tell apart by sight. How do you know the difference?
Cutthroat and cuttbows are easy to tell the difference. Cuttbows are just rainbow trout but with the "cutt" under their gills. Cutthroat are usually more colorful and have a lot less spots. It is more difficult to tell the difference between a cuttbow and a rainbow in my opinion.

What line are you throwing for you streamer fishing? Right around the 1 8 minute mark I got a glimpse of it, but couldn't tell what it was
fly line or leader? The fly line on that rod was scientific angler floating line. The leader was just 12 pound test fluorocarbon
That PB cutbow at the end had been in some fights with prior fishermen judging by his scarred mouth! Great catch!

We thought about going to Cheesman but the water was low and I got some good intel that Cheesman wasn't fishing well at the time. I definitely want to fish it at some point though!
